Black Vertical Lines On Macbook Pro Display

I bought a new 15.4 inch Macbook Pro about a month and a half ago and started seeing black vertical columns displaying statically on my display. Here's a link to the picture of it I took with my cellphone http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk222/rs-1981/Macbook%20Pro/photo.jpg So i brought the laptop to the genius bar, explained what was wrong, and they gave me a new replacement. They had no idea what it was.
So here I am about 1 month later with the new laptop and it's starting to happen all over again. I can usually get the screen to go back to normal after rebooting and it will be fine for a few days and then it starts all over again.
Any ideas of what could be going wrong and any advice on what I should expect apple to do about it would be highly appreciated. I really don't want to have them replace a second time only for this to happen again.
Thanks

you're not alone. it's something all macbook pros 15" are having. it seems to be caused when the display changes brightness, wakes from sleep, power cord removed, or just randomly. Close the lid and reopen to remove the stripes.

    (1) It sounds like you might be using a Spanish keyboard. You should specify this to begin with. Unless you do, the default assumption is that you're using a US keyboard. The advice you received is correct for the US keyboard.
    (2) To see how to enter any character available with your current keyboard, enable Keyboard Viewer, as described here

A single green vertical line has appeared on the display after opening lid from sleep.
Is there a firmware update for 15-in MacBook Pros?  I see one out there for 17-inch models.

  • Vertical lines on Macbook Pro

These vertical lines starting coming on the Macbook Pro when restarting it and if it show the vertical lines, it would just go to a white screen and I'd have to do this a few times until the lines stopped appearing - I found leaving it on the white screen for a few minutes helped before restarting it then the lines would not appear and the macbook pro would restart fine - THIS OCCURRED BEGINNING OF JULY
This then stopped happening near the end of july or beginning of August for some reason. It then started again, when I installed Minecraft, but it only occurred for a few days. I've been playing Minecraft fine.
It recently started again last week, and the macbook pro would either show a screen of a colour e.g. blue/brown then turn off and a few attempts were made to restart the macbook pro. (This was upon playing Minecraft).
Playing Minecraft was fine for a few days without the Macbook Pro switching off.
This started again 2 days ago and whenever I play mine craft - it lets me play for a few minutes then the computer freezes and so I have to press the power button to restart the macbook pro. The Macbook Pro is fine when not playing Minecraft, but this did occur before installing Minecraft on the computer. I have tried playing Spore and that seemed fine as I was on it for about 10 minutes.
I don't understand why the vertical lines would start again upon installing mine craft then stop and then start again and then stop then start again.
Any ideas on the problem? (I know I could just stop playing Minecraft, but the problem is still there in the macbook)
Note: The picture with the pixelated squares has only occurred once which was today after restarting the macbook and pressing option-command-p-r. (I talked to an apple web chatter and he said try this).

Here are the pictures which I forgot to post with the question:

  • Green vertical line on MacBook Pro 15 inch 2.53 GHZ (purchased 06/09)

I wanted to make people aware of a vertical green line which appeared 2 weeks after the 1 year warranty expired. The Apple Store said the display assembly needed to be replaced ($492.00 to fix). Pretty disappointing to get such an expensive hardware problem on a fairly new computer. Just wanted to make people aware.

    A mid 15" 2009 MBP will accept 8 GB RAM with the following specifications:  204-pin PC3-8500 (1066 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM.
The best sources of Mac compatible RAM are OWC and Crucial.
    Ciao.

    NO!
Not sure how much it can handle but it's running quite slow so I'd like to upgrade the RAM if possible.
There may be other reasons why your MBP is slow.  RAM is usually not the cure unless you are running a lot of applications.

  • Blue vertical thin line at macbook pro screen

How to remove blue vertical thin line at macbook pro screen?

It's not likely that YOU can... it's MORE likely that you've a glitch with either your screen or your GPU. You need to take your machine into your local Apple Store or an AASP and have them take a look at your machine. The diagnosis and any estimate for repair will be free.
Be prepared, though, if you don't have the extended AppleCare Protection Plan, to pay for any required repairs.

  • Small Black Vertical Lines follow my mouse pointer AND surround all ICONS

Small Black Vertical Lines follow my mouse pointer AND surround all ICONS on my desktop. I just turned on my computer and it showed like this. I already tested my monitor and it's not the monitor.
See a picture of my problem here on my me gallery:
    http://gallery.me.com/egarfias/100024
Looking at websites, it's fine the display but any icons and my pointer and things that move have these lines following! Looking at VIDEO, it's the picture is full of white and black lines though you can see the video just fine.
    Any ideas? Thank you!!

I am in Safe Mode now: This is the weirdest thing: A bit from column A AND B:
The display is perfect EXCEPT for two parallel lines of 17, 3 millimeter-long black lines that follow the pointer everywhere it goes.
Get this: my current display is 1024x768, but when I change it to 640x480, the pointer and everything is perfect! (of course, I can only see a fraction of my desktop)
But then again... when I zoom in and out holding down control (in 640x480) the pointer lines appear again, but less lines. They disappear when I re-reset it to 640.
    Strange.
But yeah, safe mode is NEAR perfect with the except of the cursor lines. I can screen grab my cursor though to show...

  • Start up to black screen 2011 15" macbook pro

start up to black screen 2011 15" macbook pro does the start up chime and apple screen, then to a black screen, mouse arrow is visible and keyboard lit. help please

I had the same issue with my Macbook Pro too. You can follow this steps below:
    1. Shut the computer down by holding the power button for 10 seconds
    2. Restart the computer and press shift at the same time until you see the progress bar start moving
    3. Once you reach the point where your screen goes dark and you see the cursor, type the first letter of the username for your computer, then hit Enter, then type your password, then hit Enter.
    4. After a moment, you should see the spinning beach ball
    5. Your screen should then move on to something along the lines of "Completing OSX Installation" (I can't remember the exact wording). Let it finish. After that it should go to your normal desktop and the issue should be fixed. (If your screen goes pitch black during this process, hit the space bar. I thought it wasn't working, but the screen was just sleeping).
Apparently it's an issue with an automatic update that never quite got past the login screen.
    Hope this helps!

  • Resolution of MacBook Pro display - always this fuzzy??

I should have done my homework, but...
I'm very sensitive to the fuzziness of the MacBook Pro display (especially the nearly grey and poorly defined letters on Word) and, to tell the truth, it's making my stomach turn and giving me a headache. I just received this computer through work, can't return it, and I'm stuck with it for three years now. what can I do or purchase to make the display CRYSTAL CLEAR (as in laser print quality)?
Will an external monitor help? Which one?
How can my iPod touch look so brilliant and this $2,500 laptop so archaic?
Thanks for any and all help,
    Ants

The reason your iPod Touch looks sharper is that it has a much higher pixel density than the MBP. Your iPod's screen is 163 ppi (pixels per inch) versus 110 ppi for the MBP. However, if it looks very fuzzy, I would agree with the other responder that your resolution isn't set to the screen's native resolution (1440 x 900) or that you are zoomed in (press control and scroll down on your mouse scroll wheel or two-fingered scroll on with the trackpad).

  • Using an LCD TV as the Macbook Pro display

    Hey
I am trying to use a Samsung LCD Tv as the display monitor for my 15 in. Macbook Pro display. I have a DVI cord going from my laptop to a DVI-RGB adapter which is plugged into the LCD Tv monitor, but nothing shows up on the tv and the display is still on the laptop. Any suggestions?
    Thanks

Assuming your adapter is valid, you try "Detect Displays" in System Prefs/Displays. Some people adjust the OS to show a monitor icon in the menu bar, near the clock, and you can access this from there also. If the Mac still detects no external display, suspect the cabling.
I really question your DVI-RGB adapter, though. That would be highly unusual - are you sure it's not DVI-SVGA, or DVI-component? Do you have the brand and model? I have run my Samsung TV from my MBP just fine with a SVGA cable and DVI-SVGA adapter.
