Black video follows when inserting video to tape

i'm editing program to the old sony sp2800 through kona 3.
when i insert video to the tape, there's always black video of about 2 seconds after the out point i've set and erases what was on the tape. so i can't make any change to the tape unless i edit the whole program to tape again.
this happens after i upgrade fcp from 5.0.4 to 5.1.4 and the kona drivers to 3.3. it might be hard for me to go back to 5.0.4 for all other machines are all using 5.1.4 in the studio...
any suggestion?
G5 Dual 2.7GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   FCP 5.1.4

in the Edit to Tape (ETT) window, make sure the Mode pop up is set to "Editing"
the Mode popup is the rounded button directly top center of the ETT window
if it is set to "Mastering" then you will also be applying additional elements to your playout, as set up in the Mastering Settings tab
(if thats the case then you may find that you have the Trailer > Black checkbox enabled)

  • Trying to export/share in a format readable by Powerpoint2010 when insert video

Using Premier 11 Elements...... I'm trying to export/ share videos to my computer, then trying to insert them into a Powerpoint slide. It works fine if I use a raw WMV format straight from the camera, but they need editting. I'm doing the editing enhancing sound etc in Premier11 Elements, but when I "share' I can't find how to save as a .wmv format??
When I choose Share>Computer>  I end up with MP4 files or XMPSES files... all will not function when inserted into Powerpoint. I get a message "media unavailable" after pasted. Or sometimes the message "Powerpoint cannot insert" this file format.
How do I export as a .wmv?? the help info available says Premier 11 elements should do this!?
thanks for any help you can give, I'm new to this and under a time crunch for work.

Thanks for the great news. Glad the suggestions worked for you.
If you want to take your Premiere Elements 11 Expert workspace Timeline to the 1920 x 1080 .wmv file for PowerPoint, the export from the following should insert into your PowerPoint 2010 nicely:
    Publish+Share
    Computer
    Windows Media
    with Presets = 720 x 480 16x9 29.97
Then under the Advanced Button/Video Tab, the essentials are:
Video codec = Windows Media Video 9
    Encoding passes = Two
    Bitrate Mode = Variable Unconstrained
    Frame Width = 1920 pixels
    Frame Height = 1080 pixels
Frame Rate = 29.97 frames per second
Pixel Aspect Ratio = Square Pixels (1.0)
The default "Average Video Bitrate" appears to be 1500 Kbps (kilobits per second). You can experiment with that later if necessary, finding the compromise between Bitrate, quality, and file size.
By the way, the installation of QuickTime is a requirement for working with Premiere Elements. The first sign of its absence is its presets missing from the Publish+Share/Computer/QuickTime. Typically the program requires being run Run As Administrator or from a User Account with Administrative Privileges.
Please let us know how else we might help.
    Thanks.

The default settings mostly likely use an audio sample rate of 32k. This doesn't work probably in FCP. You're probably better off capturing the tape in iMovie.

  • Inserting black video

    Hi Folks,
I'm an Adobe Premier user trying to get used to Final Cut Express. In Premier, there is a simple way to insert black video for fading purposes. You just select, File/New/Black Video - and the Premier gives you a 5 second clip of black in your bin that you can use wherever you want in your project.
So - how can you accomplish the same thing in FCXpress? I can't find any info in the help section or in this forum yet - probably because there's a very simple way to do it that I just haven't figured out.
    Any help?

    Hi(Bonjour)!
There are several ways to generate a black clip.
You can put your cursor on the free "space" between clips in a sequence and invoque the contextual menu (control-clik) "fill with slug..."
You can go to the generator local menu (little film strip) in right bottom of viewer and select slug or matte color to set any color you want (under control tab). The default value is set in preference menu.
If you have a free space between clips in timeline, there's no need to create a slug because the image in canvas will display a black slate upon playing.

  • Quicktime 7.5 - Black Video and no Audio - Using Windows Vista

    Hello,
I tried asking this, but I don't think I was clear enough.
Current Computer - Dell Inspiron, Quad Core, 4gig Ram, < 1yr old.
    Running OS - Vista Home
Up until recently Quicktime worked fine, then all of the sudden the video is gone.
The audio is still there however.
What I have done to try to resolve -
    1) Reviewed previous topics and tried the following -
    a) update Preferences to Safe Mode (That made a white stripe in the black screen)
    b) Update preferences to remove Direct 3D video acceleration, nothing changed
    2) Reinstall Quicktime 7.5 - No change, still shows BLACK video and will play audio
    3) Reinstall Itunes with Quicktime - No change still shows BLACK video and will play audio
Thank you for any help you can provide!

I have found a temporary workaround for this. I can open the indeo 5.1 formatted avi's in another program (either fade to black or virtualdub) and change/convert to another indeo codec called IYUV (as opposed to IV50) and while it renders a much larger avi file, those DO open in Quicktime, and when I export to convert this larger avi into a MOV file, it is about the same file size in the end product as the ones I render from the same 5.1 avi on the other computer. Knowing I can do this as needed saves me having to re-render all 400 or so of my avi's to another codec or lose them.
I STILL think there is a fix out there that is related to somehow telling the registry to recognize the ir50_32.qtx codec the same as I finally did to get Windows MP to play these files, but I haven't figured out how to do that yet.
Progress is supposed to make these files SMALLER with BETTER quality, but all I see so far with these "new improved" codecs is bigger files and no better (or even worse) image/sound quality. I'll change to more "modern" codecs when they show me one that is an actual improvement over the old one based on this criteria. And AVI remains the ONLY file format that can be extensively modified and edited artistically (zoom, crop, add watermarks and color filters and special effects). Apple is shooting themselves in the foot if they make us unable to open our AVIs in the pro version so we can continue to use QT Players on our web pages. I LIKE the mov finished product for both file size and quality, and I am happy to drive new customers to them as long as they let me convert my files in QT Pro. When I can't any longer, I'll convert every single website on all my websites player to Flash.

  • OLCS3 Field Monitors display black video in single display

I am using OL CS3 on WinXPSP2 with Canon HV20 camcorder on FireWire to my Lenovo T60 laptop, and had some success in getting clips recorded yesterday. However, no luck today. The Field Monitors do not show the live video feed, but remain black.
I rebooted my laptop, plugged in FireWire port (in an Adaptec PCMCIA card), started OL, and turned on HV20 camcorder. In OL, the Canon HV20 is listed in the Devices list, and selecting it causes Field Monitor to display text label "canon hv20 camcorder". The Field Monitor(s) still show black video...while the camcorder display shows the live image.
My laptop has only the integrated LCD panel display in use (as at boot time), the video adapter is ATI Radeon Mobility X1400 which does support dual displays. I used ATI Catalyst sw to check the video settings, which indicate there is only one display in use, it is not running clone mode or extended desktop, and the video overlay is set to show in Standard Dual Mode (which indicates video would show on both Main display and Secondary displays in original source video aspect if two displays were in use).
I read the Adobe knowledge base kb402180 "Field monitor does not display video when used on a computer with dual monitors (OnLocation CS3)" but it does not seem to solve my problem.
I can use Premier Pro CS3 to capture video I recorded to tape on the HV20 using the same hw setup. So it seems the FireWire link is okay, the camera can push a video stream on it, and so I remain suspicious of the video overlay settings. Only other thing is maybe the camera is not pushing live video stream to the FireWire cable? I'll check on that.
    Anyone have any help?
    Thanks,
    Patrick

    Brooce,
Thanks for the tip on the bug form...that is great.
As it turns out, I ran a parallel request into the Adobe support forum, and Erik H got me the answer to this problem yesterday....I found that deleting the appProps.xml file in C:\Documents and Settings\(your user folder)\Local Settings\Application
    Data\Adobe\OnLocation CS3 solved my problem.
    MY GUESS
I use my laptop with dual external displays most of the time, but while trying to record with On Location I only use the integrated LCD panel while in the studio. I am guessing that OL gets confused if I happen to run it in both of these hardware configurations....the appProps.xml could get written with dual displays in my office and then OL might expect them even though the current hw config is a single panel while in the studio.

  • Cannot paste effects to black video!

Hello I have a question about the black video in After Effects. I was doing this tutorial:
Light Streak After Effects Tutorial - YouTube
I followed the instructions to the letter, but when I go to paste my paint effect that is on my base video onto the black video, nothing shows up. I don't know if there is some element missing that I need to turn on or off. I managed to actually see the paint once, on the black video, but when I tried to replicate it on video I actually wanted to put it on, nothing showed up.
    Thanks for any help,
    S.
    Base video:
    Black video:

There are a couple of problems with his tutorial and there is a much easier workflow. First problem is the way he tried the in and out point of the shot and slid the layer to the first frame of the comp. I would have duplicated the layer, then after the painting was completed I would have simply created a new black solid in the main comp, deleted it, selected the layer I painted on and then selected the black solid in the Project Panel and held down the Alt/Option key while dragging the black solid to the Main comp to replace the footage. Works every time and solves the in shifted in and out point problem caused by the tutorials poor technique.
To see if the real problem is timing simply create a new solid, paint on a few strokes, then move back to the timeline move to the first frame, select the Paint effect in the Effects Control Panel and copy, add a new layer, select the layer and paste.

  • Why can't I apply a cross dissolve between an after effects comp and black video in Premiere CS6

I imported a 20 second composition from AE CS6 into Premiere Pro CS6 and would like to apply a cross dissolve transition between it and the media on either end of the AE clip. However, every time I try to apply the cross dissolve, it only gets applied to the AE clip. I can't apply any transitions that straddle the AE composition and anything else. For example, I have a 5 second black video before the comp and a jpg graphic after the comp. I have tried to apply a cross dissolve to both ends, but the cross dissovle only gets placed on the AE comp no matter how I try to apply it.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

When you playback the Timeline, with the Cross-Dissolve applied to the AE Comp (on both ends), how do the Transitions playback?

  • Locked a Black Video Layer and Premiere Pro CS5 Hangs Up

Ran into a problem whereby I have on Video Layer 1 a layer of Black Video about 30 minutes long.
I have 2-4 additional video layers above and about 9 audio layers.
When I locked Layer 1 which has nothing more than a premiere pro generated Black Video layer, Premiere Pro CS5 completely froze up, became unresponsiveand  not even able to move the CTI, particularly when I tried to zoom in on the layer.  However when I locked any of the other video layers, not a problem.  Hardly ever lock layers so didn't notice it before.
Filed a bug report but was curious if anyone ran into this problem.
    Using p2 media
Timeline preset is DVC PRO HD 60.  Using
    Windows 7,

  • Use of Black Video to Fill Timeline Gaps???

    Hello,
I have read articles in the past on using black video to fill any gaps between clips in the timeline. Is this a nessecary proceedure? I have rendered plenty of videos without doing this, and had no problems. Premeire will simply render black frames wherever there is not a clip. Does anyone have any pointers on this?
    Thanks,
    Clayton Nolen

It depends on your specific workflow. There can be advantages to moving clips around when there are black videos keeping everything from inadvertently sliding around and getting out of whack.
But there is no reason to have black video that in any way makes a difference to the output.

  • Pre 9: black video, only sound.

I used to use premiere many years ago, but this newest version is totally different from what i've used in the past, so bear with me.
here's my problem: When editing my video, I can cut and rearange clips pretty easily, everything seems to be working fine, however when i go to render the final product, or apply any sort of effects (i'm trying to keep my edits simple for now, but in the future i'm going to need to be able to green screen, color correct, and other effects) I end up with a black video and only audio. this loss is permanetly part of the project, even if i re-load another save. (edit: never mind this bit, i can re-load just fine) it seems to only occur when i have a lot of clips, since if i just apply filters or render raw footage it seems to work just fine.
my machine, though certainly not top of the line is pretty respectable, Its only a few months old and will play any game with full graphics settings (i'm a gamer so this is my best point of reference, I know video editing can be more taxing) specs:
    AMD phenom X4 3.4 ghz
    4 gigs of ram
NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450 (with latest drivers, i updated them about 20 minutes ago)
    windows 7 64 bit
I don't really know much about video files (there's so many variations!) so here is the properties window:
type of file: Movie Clip (.MPG)
I've tried a few different presets with this file and all of them get the same results. I tried standard dv 48hz, whatever the default was, and the standard 48hz under the hard drive (since it mentioned sony cameras and that's the brand i'm using)
I'm really at a loss of what to do, but i would be happy to provide any further info if you think you could help me.

Thanks for the help guys. I got the project set up correctly, and all seems to be in order. I also think there may have been issues with converting when rendering the final product, but I could be wrong on that.
also thanks for the tip on mpeg and GOP, i have noticed in the past that editing files from this camera can lead to the sound and video getting out of sync. oh and to answer your question, it's just a simple sony point-and-shoot that i was editing for this particular footage, though I also have a flip (and I did see that there are settings for my flip)

  • Color Bars play instead of Black Video

I created black video from FILE>NEW>Black Video
I placed it on the time line and when I play it I get color bars
    Any Ideas
    Thanks
    Dennis

    Dennis,
The only thing even remotely like this is some problems that QT has with "synthetic" Video, like Black Video and Transparent Video, but nothing like what you are getting.
So I imported some old black video that I had output before I had up graded to CS4 that was .avi video. I dropped it on the time line and I got Black Video.
This was basically the solution to the QT issues - Export the "synthetic Video" as the proper format/CODEC for the Project and all was good - still, we're talking Rendering/Transcoding issues, and not Color Bars there. In those cases, it was the lack of synthetic Video, and was not version-specific. Once this material was Exported to Video, it worked fine. While this could get your Project finished, there has got to be some reason for what you're seeing. You should be able to Export from a Sequence, the Black Video to match your Project Presets and then Import that .AVI, etc., into the Project, to replace the synthetic Video. I do not think that you'll have any problem doing this from a Sequence in CS4, or you could use the old material.
I'm thinking, but can't come up with any new tests to make you run. Thanks for trying the stuff I've thrown at you, and sorry that we're not any closer to the cause, than when you posted.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Black video looks "splotchy"...

Hello all, new owner of a gorgeous new 23" ACD... most everything looks to be ok so far. No dead pixels and only a slight yellowish vignetting on the edges... but not too bad. So I pop in a DVD and when the screen goes completely black, well, things don't look so good. The black video turns uneven and splotchy. It's mainly located around the edges and corners, but even dips into the center quite a bit.
Is this normal? Is it supposed to do this? Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Josh

I would recommend highly to exchange it if the splotches are quite noticable while watching a movie. I don't understand what's up with the 23" cinema display. Apple has addressed (quietly) the color problems but it doesn't seem perfectly manufactured, but most LCD's are not anyway. The Dell 24" seems to get good reviews for the most part but it's main complaint that I have been reading is it has an annoying high pitched sound after it warms up. People have exchnaged it and ended up with a refurb from Dell and still have the same issues.
So don't get too caught up with the negatives that you read about the Apple 23" display, most LCD's larger than 17" seem to be not too perfect, in fact including dead pixels all LCD's have their issues.
If you live too far geographically to exchange your screen then keep it if the viewing is comfortable overall.
