Black wallpaper on log-on screen after wakeup.

Apols, but I can't find anything realting to this elsewhere. Am still a newbie with macs (though I'm loving it!). Have set my wallpaper to the MAc pictures within OSX, but every time I wake my MBP from sleep, the bakcground is black - note this isn't a crash or "black screen" as I still get my log-on ID boxes etc. When I start up from turned off the Aurora background appears at log-in, so I don't know what's gon on with the wake up log-in screen... Anyone with any ideas?
Many thanks!

Have a look here "Topic : Desktop Wallpaper Issues" (http://discussions.info.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2132964). Of particular note is if you have EarthDesk installed.
If nothing there works, may also want to look at "Topic : Desktop picture reset on startup (Missing com.apple.desktop.plist file)" (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2482650&tstart=2).
Hope this helps.

• Black Oval at Log In Screen

My Late 2009 iMac 27 Inch has been running fine. Earlier this year, I had the screen repaired/replaced by official Apple store under 5-year extended warranty because dust was accumulating in lines between the glass and the monitor. Now, several months after the repair (and warranty expired) I've been encountering a large black oval at the login screen. The startup screen comes up clear. But at login I get screen pixels, lines, and debris together with the large black oval. I can log in, but the screen issues continue making the computer unusuable. Also, after a few minutes, it will just abruptly shut down. I have started up from different disks to make sure it is not a software issue, and get the same result every time.
I've run the Apple Hardware Test from my original Apple CD-ROM, but it shows no hardware error.
I've attached a picture to show what is happening. My questions:
(1) Has anyone ever encountered this?
(2) Even though the iMac is now out of the extended 5-year warranty period, does Apple strill replace the display based on defect--I had read that the 2009 27-inch iMacs had many display problems.

I also have the Late 2009 27" iMac and this exact problem happened to me this evening. Never had any issues with it until now. I was browsing the web and my system froze. I could do nothing but restart with the power button. When I did my screen looks EXACTLY like your picture with the black oval and same other noise on the screen as you. I have yet to try any troubleshooting. I'm running Mavericks also.

• I can't log into my main account with my password, always gets me back to the log-in screen after upgrading to 10.7.5

After my routine software update to 10.7.5, I can't log into my main log-in id. Whenever I put my password in, it takes me back to the log-in screen. I'm sure of the password not being wrong because i can access my other admin accounts from which i changed the password. All my files and data is in that id. Please help. Thank you.

• 2 log-in screens after turning filevault 2 on in Mac OSX Lion?

Hi -
I turned file-vault on in Mac OSX Lion 10.7.3 and now I am presented with log-in screens 2 times whenever I reboot my mac. First log-in screen comes immediately, is a light gray screen with filevault-enabled users, so I enter my password there and after some time I am presented with a second normal log-in screen, dark gray with all users. After entering my password in this second login screen, I am able to use my mac.
I am wondering if this 2 log-in screens is the normal behavior after turning on the filevault 2 on in Mac OSX Lion?

Hi Linc -
That is indeed what I am doing now, it is still decrypting. once it is done decrypting, I will start encryption again. I am not sure why the first screen is coming, just an FYI: I do not have firmware password set in my macbook as well.
I will post back the status when I get around this, thanks for your response.

• ASUS LAPTOP ,7PRO, IF NO ACTIVITY, GOES BACK TO LOG ON SCREEN AFTER 57 SECONDS WHERE I HAVE TO LOG IN AGAIN

MODELB5SJ. IF I KEEP MOVING THE MOUSE IT DOES NOT OCCUR. IF I IMMEDIATELY MOVE THE MOUSE WHEN I GO BACK TO THE LOG IN SCREEN I CAN RETURN WITHOUT HAVING TO LOG IN. IF I WAIT MORE THAN 4 SECONDS I HAVE TO LOG IN AGAIN. UPGRADED TO LATEST F/F YESTERDAY

You may have inadvertently changed your screensaver timeout, which is a Windows issue rather than a Firefox issue.
Right-click on your desktop in Windows, then select Personalize...
On the bottom right of that screen you will see a link for Screen Saver, click that. There you can set your options for your screensaver.
Also, when posting, you'll want to use normal type rather than ALL CAPS, because all caps is considered shouting.
If this resolves your issue, please mark it as "Solved". If not, please post back again.

• Black Screen After Wakeup / Sleep failure code 0x00000000 0x1f006500

Problem waking up from sleep on my mid-'09 MacBook Pro 5.4 running Lion. Bought new, under 2 years old. Upgraded RAM to 8GB and installed an SSD around Janurary this year. Problem started under Snow Liopard no more than a couple weeks back from today. Searched the web up and down for this, found a lot of people with the exact same issue, and tried quite a few suggestions.
- changed settings to wake up on pressed keyboard instead of lid open
- logged in under a different user
- repaired permissions and checked disk (some permission fail to repair)
- run extensive Apple's hardware test and memtest, together with AppleJack in single user mode (all passed, although Apple hardware test sometimes froze & I had to restart)
- removed all side programs that use kext files, only leaving Google's
- uninstalled istatpro, iAlertU and LittleSnitch
- set not to wake up for bluetooth nor network
- set fast sleep instead of hibernation so that RAM is not written to an SSD
- switched RAM modules around. Sometimes after a hard reset my RAM is cut in half and shows either 4GB or 7.75GB instead of normal 8GB (only the second module slot is displayed as empty)
- removed ethernet network settings (disabling it), restarted & added settings / reenabled it
- SMC, PMU resets
- deleted power management plist file
Haven't tried hibernation when RAM is written to a disk but this is an absolute last resort...
Now trying out the "SmartSleep" program / application.
After every hard reset the login screen freezes (mosue works but no response from the keyboard) so I wait for a few minutes or restart the boot and wait a minute or so again.
My plan now is to find a set of RAM modules somewhere to test and go into an Apple store for a check-up. I had AppleCare transferred from another laptop that expired on March this year. So I am not covered now. So far my Apple laptops haven't been all that reliable, it seems. This one went for nearly two years with no hardware problems - this could be the first one.

All sorts of ways. Nothing here helped. Went into the store and the consensus is a faulty / failed logic board. Although on my first visit I was sent back home because the company doesn't support self installed SSDs, on my second visit Alex and his manager have graciously agreed to replace be part and weave the fee for me despite expired AppleCare. This is great. I am chuffed. Problem solved, hopefully. Thanks to Apple & it's professional and efficient staff.

• IMac screen issues-turns black then to log-in screen

I own a late 2102 iMac, 21.5 inch. 2.9GHz Intel Core i5 with 8GB memory. Storage=1 Terabyte. Running Yosemite 10.10.1. Several times in the past two months while I am using my iMac, my screen has become very bright, then suddenly switches to a black screen with just the cursor showing. It then switches to the user login screen. Today I was just syncing my iPhone 5S to iTunes. Nothing radical. In the past, I was using Word or sending an iMessage. Instead of logging back on as the same user, I opted to restart. When I restarted, iTunes opened back up as did PowerPoint, which was random since I hadn't been using PowerPoint nor was it even open in the Dock. I have restarted the iMac on several occasions using Command-R and ran Disk Utilities with no problems showing up. Has anyone else experienced the same or similar problem? Is it a Yosemite problem or a hardware problem? Any solutions?

1) You need to Find the crack on Sim 3 game on Google and Copy and replace the File with new crack and problem will get solved.
Try downclocking your >>GPU<<
try lowering it more and keep testing with each one. If you have another power supply test with that(but its HIGHLY unlikely that its your psu). But overclocked cards demand more power as far as i know and it might be getting tough for the psu to handle.
And is the space freeing up on only c drive? It happens all the time. temp files getting deleted and all that. but virus scan and chkdsk wouldnt hurt..................
Take pleasure in knowing that your problem is nothing compared to what most people i stated above are facing. they cant for more than ten minutes. your crash occurred only watch serials once and a after a long time right? see if it happens again. it might get more frequent in which case you problem is very .....problematic.

• Distorted Log In screen after waking from sleep

Every time i wake my MacBook Pro (15" Early 2011), it's a black screen with the spinning rainbow for about 20-30 seconds and then i get a distorted screen at the log in. I am able to enter my password, and i can see it being typed, but i am worried about why the screen is distorted. Do note that i have had my logic board changed about 4-5 times this year. Anyone else facing this issue? I'm adding a photo to show you what it looks like.

Well, hae you tried "quirks"?
Maybe manpage of pm-suspend could help. There are severel "quirks" that solve these graphics-based problem when resuming from suspend.

• Black screen upon wakeup after longer sleep...

In the last 2 months or so, I have seen my MacMini 2011 OSX 10.7.3 crashing withing a minute of wakeup, after sleeps of more than 2-3 hours.
Sometimes the Black screen occurs almost immediately, sometimes it takes up to a minute after the desktop appears (after logging in).
This did not occur until I got 10.7.3 and only within the last 2 months.

Anyone?
I am up to 100 crashes upon wakeup now. Various versions of Lion 10.7.x. I have done clean installs as well.
Does anyone else get the black screen of death shortly after wakeup from sleep?
This never happened on 10.7.0, 10.7.1 or 10.7.2
Crashes happen in both 10.7.3 and now 10.7.4, and for sleeps as short as 90 minutes.

• Black Screen after logging in locally to Windows 7 that previously had an open RDP session.

Here is what happens. I leave my home computer on (running Windows 7 Ultimate) and sometimes I will remote to it from another location (work, friends house, or wherever). When I return home, I will go to login, the screen then goes blank (no mouse cursor
or anything). I have to do a cold boot to get back into Windows. This only happens if I ever RDP into it sometimes during the day. It seems random. I've tried logging off the RDP session, just closing it without logging off, nothing seems to be the answer
in that regard. It seems very random at times. I'll go a week and I can come home and it will login fine with no problems. Then the next week it starts giving me the black screen after I come home and login locally. I've seen several black screen issues here,
but usually they are getting it before logon. Anyone have a clue what might be causing this?

• HP15-g019wm notebook black screen after log in

My HP 15-g019wm product number F9H60UA#ABA notebook running on windows 8 recently updated and after the update it has taken longer to log in, and after logging in it goes to a black screen for a few moments with a white mouse cursor that I can move before it opens to the desktop. It takes over three minutes from log in to opening up to the desktop. Startup and boot are fine the problem only occurs after entering my password and logging in. Once it opens to the desktop everything else works fine. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Most recent windows upgrade was KB2993651 on 8-29-14. Don't know if that helps or not. Would uninstalling that update do anything to improve or worsen my computer's current state?
Thanks
This question was solved.

I just uninstalled the update prior to the problem occurring (KB 2993651), and upon restart I was able to go from the login screen to the desktop without the black screen. Thanks for the help.

• Random black screen after log in screen

I have a week old top spec rMBP, I migrated my settings from my older MBP using migration assistant without any issues, my problem is random which makes it difficult to describe, when I reach the log in screen and insert my password click enter, sometimes the computer opens normally and at other times I get a brief flash of white which looks like a horizontal line but it is very rapid so I may be wrong, and then the screen goes black and nothing happens, no menues or options, all I have is the power button to shut down. I restart and it can take a variable number of attempts before it will get beyond the log in screen, 6 attempts it the most so far !
I have an appointment at the Apple store tomorrow but just wanted to know if there was something I was doing wrong to save the journey, the machine works fine once up and running, I have done the disk and permissions repair via disk utility but it does not seem to make an difference, there used to be some resets using various key combinations and there was the remove the battery reset option but of course that is no possible now.

You could try two things (but I doubt that either will work).
Reset PRAM and NVRAM.
Reset the SMC.
Give them a try as last resort. As I said, I doubt that either will fix your problem, but it's worth trying.

• [SOLVED] Black screen after GRUB

Hello everyone
I was setting up a machine with E17 and was trying various DM's since none seemed to work. After attempting to use LightDM, I get a black screen after GRUB. I was trying to read the various logs at /var/log/ but I cannot understand them properly. I tried reinstalling entrance and LightDM with no luck. I even tried editing grub's entry appending '1' or 's' and still no dice. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi tnx for both answers.
I missed something important in Xorg.log. As you can see, fbdev and modesetting aren't loading as usual. I didn't check grub stuff, I don't think it's related, since loading in level 3 (text mode) I get a black screen but I can login as root and turn off the computer blindlessly.

No, I can't get it to work changing DM's. I'm not sure if I pacman -Syu before changing DM's another time. Maybe it wasn't LightDM's fault afterall.
