  • Saving files as Black & White Scalable or Windows Meta File using hp scanjet 4570c scanner

I have a hp scanjet 4570c Scanner that I need to be able to save or convert scans to Black & White Scalable or Windows Meta Files to use with our Engraving Machine. We had a hp scanjet 4400c that used Precision 3.1 Software and it could save a scan as Black & White Scalable. It was perfect for our Engraver until the scanner went bad. Our 4570c doesn't have an option for that. Help !

  • G5 Black & white video when booted from install DVD

It has been years since I installed 10.5 on our G5 so I can not remember if this happened back then but think it did.
When I boot from an install DVD (both the original G5 DVD with Tiger and the MacOS Leopard DVD) the video output drops to 1-bit (dithered black & white) which makes it very hard to discern the text on the shaded buttons in the GUI. The video card is fine - when I hold down the Option key on boot to select the DVD the video is full-color, but as soon as it switches to running from the DVD the video becomes low-rez dithered b&w.
Anyone else see this issue and suggestions on resolving it? The display is a Dell 17" wide model. I don't have another display that is easily swappable to see if it's a problem with it or the Apple DVI-to-VGA adapter.
The G5 tower is a first-generation 2x2 (2CPUs, 2GHz) with 2 DVI ports on the video card (can't recall which card I ordered back then).

Great to hear, thanks for the report!
I suspect what happened, was that the Install also changed some PRAM or NVRAM setting, those are where number of colors are held.
Some earlier Macs store these settings in PRAM:
    Status of AppleTalk
Serial Port Configuration and Port definition
    Alarm clock setting
    Application font
    Serial printer location
    Autokey rate
    Autokey delay
    Speaker volume
    Attention (beep) sound
    Double-click time
Caret blink time (insertion point rate)
    Mouse scaling (mouse speed)
    Startup disk
    Menu blink count
    Monitor depth
    32-bit addressing
    Virtual memory
    RAM disk
    Disk cache

  • How to make one color stand out in a black/white video

I am doing an expirimental film  and I cant figure out how to do the effect I want.  What I want to do is have droplets of blood falling into a puddle of it (this is fake blood, incase anyone is freaked out)  and have shots of small blood puddles and have the Blood colored but everything else black and white.  Does anyone know how to do this in premiere elements?

    jubgb
I still do not know your version of Premiere Elements and  your computer operating system, but here is a plan that would probably work for Premiere Elements 11, 12/12.1, and 13/13.1 on Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit.
But you say that you are starting with a black and white image. If you could start with the color version of the image, I think we have a promising path to have the fake blood appear in color on a black and white image.
This would be done by applying the Color Pass effect to the color photo version. Color Pass Effect is  found under fx Effects/Image Control/Color Pass.
Then you would edit the Color Pass effect under Applied Effects Tab/Appied Effects Palette/Color Pass Panel expanded. But I find that the most effective editing of that effect is done using the Setup whose icon appear to the right of the Color Pass Panel.
Have you used the Color Pass effect before?

I will offer how to suggestion for its use if interested. As for starting with the black and white, then I need to think about that some more.

  • Blackmagic Card into FCP is only capturing Black/White video .. need help

Hey all, I just bought a Blackmagic Decklink SP video card. Going into FCP when digitizing video only comes in Black and White.
    Here's the setup:
OLD VHS player (RCA out) into the Blackmagic card (BNC).
We're just using the (Y-in from deck) cable that came with the breakout cables. This is plugged into the VHS deck with a BNC to RCA adapter.
Does anyone what might be causing this ?
Is there a setting that I'm missing.
    Appreciate any replies

First off...show all of your students this tutorial:
    http://library.creativecow.net/ross_shane/tapeless-workflow_fcp-7/1
It isn't long, and it shows the proper way to deal with tapeless footage in FCP.  Step 1: BACKUP THE CARD! Never import directly from the card. You need a backup first. Unless you are in a hurry, then you can import and backup later...before you erase the card.
But this camera is tricky...it shoots SD to those cards.  Standard Def.  With the world moving to High Def, I'm not sure that was the wisest purchase.  You really should be getting an HD camera.
As for the computers...do they all have the same OS version?  QT version?  FCP version?  They all should be at least at Mac OS 10.6.8, QT 7.6.6, and FCP 7.0.3.
But yeah...get a different camera.  And HD one.  And show that video in class.  Instill proper tapeless workflows while they are young!

  • Black & white / desaturate ?

hi there! i recently figured out how to make black&white video footage on adobe premiere pro cs3, by selecting image control under the video effects button, but i noticed that the quality of the film footage itself became grainy. now my question is, will the quality of the clip be better if i were to desaturate the film using the three-way colour corrector? any suggestions?

The human eye is more sensitive to variations in luminance (light) than it is to chrominance (color), and video noise or grain is exactly that: variations in light and color. When you remove the color (ie. desaturate), the grain tends to show itself more because the color was actually helping to "run interference" on the noise and make it somewhat less noticeable (not invisible, just less noticeable). As such, a different method of desaturating the image isn't likely going to net you drastically better results. You'll have to employ some means of image manipulation, such as a slight blur or a noise/grain removal filter, or start with source footage of less noise.

  • How do you black out video w white titles showing   audio playing  ,than slowly fade to reveal video

How do you black out video w white titles showing   audio playing  ,than slowly fade to reveal video

From the Transitions browser (far right of iMovie's window, shaped like an hourglass), drag the Fade to Black transition to the gap between the Title and video thumbnail. Alternatively, drag the Cross Dissolve transition - rather than fading to black, the image will gradually transform from the Title to the video.
Double-click the transition to open the Inspector - you can change the duration there if preferred.
    John
PS. Re-reading your question, if the video is continuous with a Title inserted, you will need to split the clip at the point where the Title ends, then drag in the transition. To split the clip, right-click (or Control-click) at the split point then select "Split Clip" from the pop-up menu.

  • Black & white screen using DVI-to-Video adapter

I've got a strange problem. I'm connecting my MacBook Pro to a Sony TV using Apple's DVI to Video adapter and a composite video cable.
As soon as I make the connection, I see the Mac's screen appearing on my TV, but it is in black & white! And it flickers a little every few seconds. The only way to get to a colour screen seems to be to re-boot the MacBook. It's quite annoying.
Previously, I've always had a colour picture come up immediately. The problem started to crop up right around the time I installed Snow Leopard, in fact, although I'm not sure whether it's a coincidence or not. And I don't think it's related to my TV. Any thoughts?

same problem here... first time i plug it in after a reboot it's in color. when you disconnect it and try again later it'll be in black and white and there's nothing you can do to fix the problem. only choice you have is to reboot your computer. as you can imagine, having to reboot the computer every time you want to use the adapter is REALLY annoying

  • DVI to Video is black & White

Hi, I've just bourght a Apple DVI to Video PAL edition to use with my tv, but the picture is in black & white.
Normal you get a black & white picture on the tv if you use ntsc stuff on european tv's, but it is a pal adaptor.
Any sugestions to solve the problem?

I've tried that, but it doesn't help.
Do you, in fact, see the option to select between NTSC and PAL in the Displays System Preferences? (Just to make sure everything is being detected correctly.)
Are you using an s-video cable or a composite video cable? Can you try a different cable and/or port on your TV?

  • Iphone shows black & white photo's & video when connected to HD TV?

I bought the Apple composite A/V cables to connect my iphone 3GS to my HD TV. While both photo's and video do play on the TV, they are in black & white. Does anyone know why? Is there a setting in the iphone that allows color? I'm sure it's not a setting on my TV, as all other devices that I'm able to connect to the TV work in color, except the iphone. Any suggestions?

I know that on some TV's(Samsung as an example) not all of their component inputs will work properly with composite cables and will display in black & white unless the correct input is used. Try using a different input like the one labled number 1.

  • Why is the camera on L540 black & white in Windows 8.1?

When I use the Windows 8.1 Camera app, I get a black and white picture. There's no setting where I can select colour or black/white. If I go to the control panel and select "View scanners and cameras", the integrated camera is not listed there at all.
In the Device Manager, the camera is listed as Integrated Camera and has device status "Working properly". The driver provider is Vimicro and the driver version is 5.13.514.3.
How can I get the camera working properly as a colour camera?

Recieved my machine today to discover that I am having the same issue! I hope this is malfunctioning software.

Try the "Export using QuickTime" option. After selecting audio, video, size, and streaming options, select the "Filters" option. Based on what you say you want, would suggest you select the "Film Noise" filter with the "Dust and Film Fading" pop-up option and use either the "Sepia" or "B&W" fading option.
