BlackBerry 10 OS Security & Usability Anywhere

Previous BlackBerry platforms 4.0 - 7.1 required a BIS package to enable all functionality, now BlackBerry 10 uses data for the network provider to allow use of BBM and Applications. Now there are places where BIS was not there e.g. my home country Zimbabwe, the service was banned by Government regulator due to encryption. Does Z10 & Q10's BBM work anywhere as long as there is a data plan without need for BIS???
Solved!
Go to Solution.

Hello,
The general answer is "yes", BBM now works without a BIS plan...but the specifics may well vary by carrier, local governments, etc. If there is a governmental block on the use of BBM, I would expect them to insist that the carriers continue to block it, even though BIS is not used as the transport anymore. You would likely receive a better (and more authoritative) answer from the carriers themselves.
Good luck!

  • Blackberry Protect and Security Wipe

Hi! If you would like to turn off your BlackBerry Anti-theft on your device you can simply go to your Settings → BlackBerry AntiTheft and simply disable it from there. But if your device is running 10.3.2 OS then you will be asked to enter your BlackBerry ID credentials. Just enter your BlackBerry ID username and password and it will be disabled. Then to perform security wipe, I suggest back up your device first before doing so. Then when you have everything backed up go to Settings → Security and Privacy → Security Wipe It may take some time to wipe your device and expect that it needs more than 30% battery level to continue. So keep your battery charged and wait for the wipe to be completed. You may also see that your device will turn off and on a few times while performing security wipe. NOTE:To find what OS you're currently running, go to Settings → About → Tap Category → Select OS on the drop down list and check current OS. 10.3.2 OS update is very tight in security specially when your BlackBerry Anti-theft is turned on. When you perform a Security wipe, you will need to verify your BlackBerry ID credentials. Then you must enter your BlackBerry ID credentials again after security wipe. If you fail to enter your BlackBerry ID, then your device is forever locked out. This is the reason why I always advise to have t he Anti-theft turned off first. Good luck!

    Hello,
If you are on 10.3.1 or earlier, there is no requirement to turn off Protect before a WIPE...the WIPE will remove the association between your BB device and all BB proprietary services, including Protect.
However, if you are on 10.3.2, then indeed you need to first turn off Protect before you initiate the WIPE. Refer:Article ID: KB36737 BlackBerry Protect Anti-theft ProtectionGood luck!

  • PSE 6 fonts usable anywhere else?

Can the fonts in PSE 6 be used in any other Windows apps? Or are they embedded in the PhotoShop application itself?

Fonts are stored centrally for all the apps at location Control Panel->Fonts. These are accessed by all the apps automatically. If you have something specific then you can put here and they should be available for your use.

  • In Apex 4.0.1 Security Option Missing Under Manage Services

In Apex 4.0.1, I am trying to edit session timeouts and password policies. The online docs say to login as as an Administrator and navigate to:
    home->administration->manage services-> security
I am unable to see the "security" option anywhere.
Does anyone know how to get to this option?
    Thank you.

Sorry. I just realized that I was logged-in as a "developer" not as the APEX Admin which, of course, is why I couldn't find the "security" option. I had too many windows open at once.

  • "Security" in system preferences quite's unexpectedly

System Preferences crashes every time I click on the "security" button. I can't open security from anywhere else either and I was wondering if I should re-install OS 10.6.4 or if it would be better to pay for Apple support?

Move the com.apple.security.plist and com.apple.security.revocation.plist files out of your /Library/Preferences/ folder, log out and back in, and see if the problem persists. If not, delete the moved files and press on.

  • Can't find Security Timeout feature

This is probably a dumb question so forgive me, but I have looked everywhere for security timeout and I can't find it anywhere. I just updated my phone to v5.0.0.975 and I've looked through security options, password options and I do not see security timeout anywhere. Does this os not have a security timeout feature or am I just not looking in the right places?
    Thank you for any responses!

From 10g , the Version has been removed so in 10g you need to enter
    FORMS_TIMEOUT
    Hope it helps

  • Results Table (2.2.2) export missing Security Manager filters

    Hello OEID forum,
I'm working with the Results Table portlet (v2.2.2), and notice that my exports are not including security filters which we have added in a custom Security Manager.
When I trace through the ResultsExportPortlet (doExport method) and AbstractExport classes (source included in the endeca-results-export-portlet.war) I seem to see 2 different implementations:
    1. For MDEX 7...
This code will craft the request to the MDEX web service. I don't see it calling the Security Manager anywhere.
    2. For MDEX 6...
This code will eventually call com.endeca.portal.data.DataSource.execute, which I believe will call the Security Manager.
Can anyone confirm that this is correct? So Results Table export for MDEX 7 will not invoke the Security Manager, while the MDEX 6 implementation will?
    Thanks,
    Jerome

    Hi Jerome,
Thanks for your post. It's worthwhile raising a Service Request for this, so it can be investigated.

  • What happens to sensitive information if your Blackberry is lost?

I have an 8830 World Edition and I love it. I was excited about moving to a Storm, so I asked my company's IT guy if he'd heard any news about it. He informed me that the company feels that Blackberrys are a security risk and that we will block all Blackberry usage beginning "very soon." He went on to say that if someone were to lose their phone (or be terminated), that the company needs a way to remotely wipe all data off the phone immediately. As we can't currently do that, they want us to move towards a solution that does allow them to do that. We don't have an on-premise (server) set up because we're not large enough and maybe that would've helped us. I started to get very upset about this information because I don't relish the idea of going to another platform. So, I wanted to see if anyone has any information on this. The Blackberry is the number one smartphone in the world. How could my company be the only one with such a concern? Are there options I can tell our IT people to explore (other than installing a Blackberry server because I'm 99% certain they won't do that)?

OM*G! If your IT guy thinks the BlackBerry isn't secure enough, then I guess your company will be stuck with stone tablets and chisles!
There is NO Mobile Email device - let me repeat - NO, NONE, DOES NOT EXIST - that is more secure than a BlackBerry.  Of course to insure this security, you do need to either trust that people will at least protect the device with a password, or have them on a BES where you can force the policy.
This isn't the "security" password like on a Windows Mobile device which displays all your reminders while the device is locked, or an iPhone which displays who's calling you while the device is locked at which point you can just tap the notice and you've got access to the entire device.
Once a BlackBerry is password protected, you have 10 tries to unlock the device.  Once you've entered the wrong password 10 times, ALL DATA IS WIPED - COMPLETELY.
We won't even get into how all data can be encrypted - including the SD card.
Frankly, any IT person who would say such a thing can NOT be very aware of the Mobile Device environment!
And yes, you can remotely wipe the device.  Of course, the device needs to be connected to a BES, but in order for any mobile device to be wiped remotely it has to still have it's connection with a server you can send the command from.

  • Exchange 2013 - How to configure Outlook Anywhere with certificate based authentication?

    Hello,
is it possible to secure Outlook Anywhere in Exchange 2013 with certficate based authentication?
I found documentation to configure CBA for OWA and ActiveSync, but not for Outlook Anywhere.
We would like to secure external access to the mailboxes via Outlook by using CBA.
    Thanks a lot in advance!
    Regards,
    André

    Hi,
Let’s begin with the answer in the following thread:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/e4b44ff0-4416-44e6-aa78-be4c1c03f433/twofactor-authentication-outlook-anywhere-2010?forum=exchange2010
Based on my experience, Outlook client only has the following three authentication methods:Basic, NTML, Negotiate. And for more information about Security for Outlook Anywhere, you can refer to the following article:

  • My sister is buying an ipad2 for fun and business. security software?

I am an iMac owner with no security software installed. My sister has never owned an Apple computer product and has ordered (not received) an iPad2 for fun and her own business (ledgers and accounts). She has asked me to recommend a security software package. Does she need it? If so, what kind?

It's not needed. At all. As long as your sister doesn't "jailbreak" her iOS device and avoids tricksy phishing attempts.
Every app is sandboxed, and the OS is among the most secure usable by an average consumer. In my opinion, best thing is to just not worry about it.

    I'm stuck!
    Hello,
None? Are you absolutely sure? There are many methods discussed, with many nuances within some of them (e.g., the fact that password reset emails will not be received on the device -- this is by design). Sadly, though, from your short result report, we can't even begin to guess at what might have gone wrong within those methods...more details from you would be needed in order to provide you with any useful guidance.
Good luck and let us know!

  • A secure file?

I love my new iPhone, but one thing I miss about my Blackberry is a secure, password-protected, fie to store all my passwords.  Is there an option to do this on iPhone?

    Personally, I use Roboform.

  • Can I move the 'Microsoft Exchange Security Groups' OU?

Can I move the 'Microsoft Exchange Security Groups' OU?

OK for Exchange 2007 this is apparently supported
Q: Can I move the default Exchange security groups to another container or domain in the forest?
A: Exchange 2007 uses a new set of security groups to manage the permission model and to maintain coexistence. These groups are as follows:
    Exchange Server
    Exchange View-Only Administrators
Exchange Public Folder Administrators (New in Exchange 2007 Service Pack 1)
    Exchange Recipient Administrators
    Exchange Organization Administrators
    ExchangeLegacyInterop
By default, these security groups are located in the root domain in the Microsoft Exchange Security Groups organizational unit. They can be moved to different organizational units and also to other domains in the forest. Moving the groups in the forest is supported because these groups have two unique properties: a well-known GUID and a distinguished name that can change. By using these two properties and adding them to the forest’s otherWellKnownObjects attribute during the Setup /PrepareAD task, Exchange can find the security group anywhere in the forest. The directory service will handle updating the distinguished name (DN) of the object when it is moved. In this manner, Exchange does not require a fixed location in the directory.
