Blackberry 8130 Rogers - some mail bounces back

If someone sends an e-mail to me at my main address (shaw.ca) which is also forwarded to my Blackberry they receive a message back from the Blackberry account saying that the message could not be received.
I did however in fact get the message on my Shaw acvcount which also shows up on my blackberry.
My blackberry e-mail address appears to be correct in my profile.
This seems to happen only when the e-mail is one that is sent to a group that I am part of with other addresses in the To: __________________
Any ideas on solving this problem?

eetonaee,
It could be an Auto-Population issue. If the user is using a program like Outlook, have them create a new email. Have them start typing your name/address and press the down arrow key to highlight and delete. Once deleted, have the user entery in your full email address again.
Keep us updated.

  • AOL mail bounce back

I am getting bounce backs from any mail sent to an AOL account. The mail will go through if I log onto my mailbox at my ISP provider (Optimum Online). The bounce back has this message:
Reason: SMTP transmission failure has occurred
    Diagnostic code: smtp;554-: (ISP:B2) http://postmaster.info.aol.com/errors/554ispb2.html TRANSACTION FAILED
    Remote system: dns;mailin-01.mx.aol.com (TCP|167.206.4.199|54475|205.188.156.185|25) (rly-ya06.mx.aol.com ESMTP mailrelayin-ya6.5; Thu, 31 May 2007 10:17:46 -0400)
    If I go to the aol link in the message I get this explanation;
    554 ISP:B2
    http://postmaster.info.aol.com/errors/554ispb2.html
    EXPLANATION:
Your IP address has generated a high volume of mail to AOL which exceeded our rate limit or has generated AOL member complaints. Possible causes include a compromised or virus-infected personal computer or a non-disclosed server relaying mail within the ISP's network. Note, this block is automatically removed within 24 hours.
    SOLUTION:
The IP address in question is not the connecting MTA, but is commonly the originating IP. If your originating IP is static and has valid and meaningful reverse DNS, then please contact us with that IP. If you are not sure what your originating IP address is or if you are unsure as to whether your originating IP is dynamic or static, please contact your ISP for further information regarding your type of service.
If you are sending large volumes of mail from a dynamic IP address, please contact your ISP and inquire about purchasing a static IP or business class IP address. Furthermore you can attempt to reduce the amount of email recipients sent during one session. If you are sending to a mailing list you should verify that the recipients on your list are still interested in receiving your email.
If you did not send an extraordinary amount of email, we recommend scanning your computer or network for viruses and malicious applications.
If you are an ISP receiving this error from an excessive number of your customers you may have an undisclosed proxy or relay on your network. Please contact us to resolve this issue.
I am not sending high volumes of mail to AOL unless one or two emails a day is large. This is a recent problem. Has anyone experienced this or does someone have a solution? My ISP says there is nothing they can do on their end and AOL won't talk to you unless you have a paid account.
    Dan

AOL's explanation per the link provided covers your options.
    * You contacted your ISP which indicated there is nothing they can do or there is nothing they are willing to do in your behalf.
    * You are not sending high volumes of mail to AOL.
    * You can scan your Mac for viruses and malware which can't hurt but will be a waste of time in this situation.
This leaves contacting AOL. Other than that, wait until the 24 hour block period has expired.

I was in contact with a moderator on here by the name of Stuart. I recently had changed my mobile number and every time I try to send an email to this specific mod the email bounces back stating this mailbox isn't monitored. Is it possible to somehow get Stuarts attention on here? And get the emails working again? Emails keep bouncing back.

  • Mac mail bounce back when forwarded

Help! I use mac mail on my ibook to get mail from my go daddy server. Recently I cannot forward mail to one of my 3 accounts. when I try I get this message:
Hi. This is the qmail-send program at p3plsmtpa01-07.prod.phx3.secureserver.net.

This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out.

Making a rule to simply move emails from an unwanted sender (with a real email address) to the trash, is no solution at all. The whole point is to Reject that person's email by bouncing it back to them, with the intention of showing them they have NOT reached a valid email address. The whole point is to STOP their behavior, not accept it. Your suggestion, that I have to allow the unwanted email to come in, for me to have to deal with it, trashing it or otherwise, sounds like the attitude of the spammers.
Let's not confuse the point here, Apple put the "bounce mail" feature in Mac mail for a reason, and I just want it to work again.
Bouncing email is not unique to Apple's Mail. There is a RFC specifying how bouncing should be handled. Thomas already explained why bouncing email is not a good idea. Here is the reason quoted from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nondeliveryreport.
"Today, however, most email is spam, which usually utilizes forged Return-Paths. It is then often impossible for the MTA to inform the originator, and sending a bounce to the forged Return-Path would hit an innocent third party. In addition, there are specific reasons why it is preferable to silently drop a message rather than reject it (let alone bounce it):
    * Heuristically filtered spam. Spam filters are not perfect. Rejecting spam based on content filtering implies giving to spammers a test environment where they can try several alternatives until they find a content that passes the filter.
    * Viruses and worms. Most times these are sent automatically from an infected machine. Since a bounce may contain a copy of the worm itself, it may contribute to its diffusion."
So using bounce is not a good idea, IMHO.

  • Sent mail bounces back

This issue drives me nuts. One fine day as I was sending an email, I noticed I'd get that same email return to my inbox as an unread email, with my message in it. It happens both with my me and google account. Both are set as IMAPs. Please help!

    • Have you accidentally addressed the message to yourself?
    • Have you included yourself on the Bcc (Blind Carbon Copy) line?
    • Has the send-to lookup in Mail made a mistake and looked up to the wrong address (yours) ?? Mine has been doing that a lot lately, but it has not been coming back to my address, it has been looking up other people's names incorrectly.
    • Is the email coming back to you as undeliverable? It should have some additional info in an added header if that is the case.

  • Mail account screwed up after bouncing some spam emails back to sender

Alright, so I noticed the other day that you could right click on a spam message and bounce it back so it looks like you're not a valid email address. Tried it a few times and it seemed to work ok. They always bounced back to me since it probably wasn't the spammer's actual address, but anyway.
Yesterday I bounced a few back and the "Mail delivery" messages came back like they usually do. I deleted them. They came back...many many times. Sometimes they come back as new messages, sometimes they just magically appear back in my inbox after I've moved them to the trash.
The girl I work with bounced some messages (on a G4 tower) and her Mail is doing the exact same thing. There are a bunch of other PC's in the office and their mail seems to be working fine.
Now I know this may well be a problem with Dreamhost (the hosting company), and I've put in a ticket to them, but it really worries me the way my email account is acting; like it's corrupted or something. The webmail does work, but it's waaaay slow.
It's a POP3, and I have tried rebuilding the mailbox.

Why do you people keep bouncing spam?
If the bounce doesn't reach the destination, it's just a waste of time and bandwith, plus a source of problems, because in all likelihood it'll be bounced back to you.
If the bounce reaches the destination, then it's even worse, because you're either (1) telling the spammer that your address is valid and that you're willing to spend time on his/her/its junk, or (2) contributing to the spammer's effort by sending his/her/its junk to the innocent whose address was stolen for sending it (and who, in turn, might end up posting in a forum such as this wondering why does he/she receive bounces for messages he/she hasn't sent).
So what exactly is the point of bouncing spam? Don't you have anything better to do with your time?
OK, enough ranting. Back to the problem, you'll have to somehow remove the offending messages from the server first. After doing that, you'll have to re-create Envelope Index. Problem is, while re-creating the index Mail may choke on the messages you couldn't delete, so either be prepared for that or perform optional steps 1 and 3:
    1. (Optional, but recommended). If this is a POP account, try to find in ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/INBOX.mbox/Messages/ the *.emlx files associated with the troublesome messages. Viewing the *.emlx files as List in the Finder showing the creation/modification date may help. Just identify them; do not get rid of them yet (you must quit Mail first).
    2. Quit Mail.
    3. (Optional, but recommended). If you found the troublesome *.emlx files in step 1, move them to the Trash.
    4. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/. Make a backup copy of this folder, just in case something goes wrong -- e.g. by dragging it to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down.
    5. Locate the Envelope Index file and move it to the Trash. If you see an Envelope Index-journal file there, delete it as well.
    6. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/. Locate Deleted Messages.mbox, and move it to the Trash. I assume there is nothing to be preserved there.
    7. Open Mail. It will tell you that your mail needs to be "imported". Click Continue and Mail will proceed to re-create Envelope Index -- Mail says it's "importing", but it just re-creates the index if the mailboxes are already in Mail 2.x format.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user's home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user's home folder.

    Hi,
Which type of email account are you using? POP, IMAP or Exchange?
Please first log on your web mail and check if the undelivered notifications are in your webmail spam folder.
Please also try to send an useless wrong email address from web mail and check if you will get the undelivered notification.
Please let me know the result.

  • Urgent!!! how to trap bounced back mails thru java mail

    Hi,
I want to trap a bounced back thro java mail. Is there any way out. Please help. Its urgent.

Sure. Just look at your incoming mail and identify the ones that are the bounce messages. That's easy to say, but there is no standard for the format of a bounce message, so every mail server uses their own. However, you can generally identify them by their subject lines; you'll have to look at some actual bounce messages to decide what to look for. So far I have found about 10 different formats.

That sounds like a compatibility issue with an add-on that you have installed, as reported by a number of users in both Firefox 22 and Firefox 23 over the last couple of months. If you would provide a listing of your installed extensions ''(as you were prompted to do when creating this thread)'' maybe one of us can advise you which extension is the mot likely culprit. You will need to re-install Firefox 23 to do further diagnostic testing.
As far as the compatibility of Firefox 23 and Win XP SP3, Mozilla has verified they are compatible and not one user ''(including me on two separate PC's)'' has reported a problem with compatibility.

  • Mail with PDF attachments bounce back??

I often send time-sensitive PDFs that need to be reviewed quickly so it ***** to learn a couple of days later that the delivery failed! Is there a way that mail can inform that the email DID arrive successfully? Or is there a way to reduce the amount of times mail tries to send it before it notifies me it failed? Also, any ideas why these emails fail in the first place? They are not huge files!

I don't think this is a Mail issue, I think it's to do with the receiving ISP and the reason the mail can't be delivered. For example, if the address does not exist the mail will probably bounce back straight away but if the recipient's mail box is full then the server may try later and if it's been emptied, the mail will go through - if not, after a few tries it will bounce. Hence the delay.

I will send a type only message and it goes on and on like i am sedning an attachement. then if i open the activity viewer and cancel it it won't work and the next time I open up mail it keeps trying to send the smae email again. I have to force quit and try to delete that email.

    Brian,
Please clarify: people attempting to send you an email get it bounced back to them? And/or you mail is not getting to them?
In the Finder, open Home/Library/Mail/Mailboxes and locate the Outbox.mbox. Is this Outbox.mbox folder at the first level of the Mailboxes folder?
    More info, please.
