My IPad just shut down and does not want to start again....what can I do?

Assuming that the battery isn't empty (it can take up to 10 or 15 minutes charging before it responds) then have you tried a reset ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds, after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Macbook pro does not want to start up

Hi! I am having issues with my MacBook Pro. What's happening is that when I turn it on it does not want to load anything. I push the power button and the apple logo comes up and the little loading symbol at the bottom just keeps going around and around. I've left it on for about an hour straight to see if it finally loads or if anything happens and still I get no where. Has anyone had this issue before and if so, how was it resolved? I don't have the extend warranty from apple, so they're charging my $20 right off the back to use over the phone service. I have no problem paying for it, just rather see if there is a simple free way to get it fix instead of having to pay just to talk to someone over the phone. I also can't remember what operating system I am running on. PLEASE HELP!

Take each of these steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
The first step in dealing with a boot failure is to secure your data. If you want to preserve the contents of the startup drive, and you don't already have at least one current backup, you must try to back up now, before you do anything else. It may or may not be possible. If you don't care about the data that has changed since your last backup, you can skip this step.
There are several ways to back up a Mac that is unable to boot. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.
         a. Boot into the Recovery partition, or from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup.) When the OS X Utilities screen appears, launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in this support article, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.”
    b. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, boot the non-working Mac in target disk mode. Use the working Mac to copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
    c. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.
    Step 2
Press and hold the power button until the power shuts off. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed to boot, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Use a different keyboard and/or mouse, if those devices are wired. If you can boot now, one of the devices you disconnected, or a combination of them, is causing the problem. Finding out which one is a process of elimination.
If you've booted from an external storage device, make sure that your internal boot volume is selected in the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences.
    Step 3
Boot in safe mode. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
When you boot in safe mode, it's normal to see a dark gray progress bar on a light gray background. If the progress bar gets stuck for more than a few minutes, or if the system shuts down automatically while the progress bar is displayed, your boot volume is damaged and the drive is probably malfunctioning. In that case, go to step 5.
If you can boot and log in now, empty the Trash, and then open the Finder Info window on your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) Check that you have at least 9 GB of available space, as shown in the window. If you don't, copy as many files as necessary to another volume (not another folder on the same volume) and delete the originals. Deletion isn't complete until you empty the Trash again. Do this until the available space is more than 9 GB. Then reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)
If the boot process hangs again, the problem is likely caused by a third-party system modification that you installed. Post for further instructions.
    Step 4
Sometimes a boot failure can be resolved by resetting the NVRAM.
    Step 5
Launch Disk Utility in Recovery mode (see Step 1.) Select your startup volume, then run Repair Disk. If any problems are found, repeat until clear. If Disk Utility reports that the volume can't be repaired, the drive has malfunctioned and should be replaced. You might choose to tolerate one such malfunction in the life of the drive. In that case, erase the volume and restore from a backup. If the same thing ever happens again, replace the drive immediately.
This is one of the rare situations in which you should also run Repair Permissions, ignoring the false warnings it may produce. Look for the line "Permissions repair complete" at the end of the output. Then reboot as usual.
    Step 6
Reinstall the OS. If your Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade.
    Step 7
Repeat step 6, but this time erase the boot volume in Disk Utility before installing. The system should automatically reboot into the Setup Assistant. Follow the prompts to transfer your data from a Time Machine or other backup.
    Step 8
This step applies only to a Mac Pro tower, not to any other model. A dead logic-board battery can cause a gray screen at boot. Typically the boot failure will be preceded by loss of the startup disk and system clock settings. See the user manual for replacement instructions.
    Step 9
If you get this far, you're probably dealing with a hardware fault. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested.

  • My CQ61-313US Notebook does not want to start up sometimes.

My notebook all of a sudden does not want to boot up properly. When I turn it on the power light comes on, the wireless icon stays red, and two lights flash on and off. One is located next to the caps lock button and the other is located above the end and page up buttons. I take out the battery and unplug the power cord, then hold down the power button for up to 30 seconds. Then I plug the power cord back in and try to restart it.  I do this over and over again and if I get lucky it will boot up. What do you think is the problem here? Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give me.

  • Blackberry 8520 does not start up

    HI,
      I have just bought a Blackberry 8520.
It has been working fine till today suddenly a white screen came on with a small clock icon in the centre.
The phone does not switch on. I have tired taking the batter off, sim and the memory card but nothing helps.
If anyone know how to rectify this problem I would really apprecaite it.
    P.S I use MAC

You'll need to get access to a PC.
If your BlackBerry stays powered off with a black screen, follow the instructions below. The only indication of life might be the blinking red LED light in the top corner. Nothing seems to wake it up and Desktop Manager doesn't recognize any device is connected.
    1) Make sure you have Blackberry Desktop Manager installed.
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/desktop/
    2) On your PC, go to Start > Run and copy and paste the following line exactly (meaning with the quotation marks):
    "c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader\loader.exe" /nojvm
    3) The Application Loader Wizard will appear -- click "Next."
    4) In the "Connection:" drop-down menu, you should see "USB-PIN: UNKNOWN". Click the "Next" button.
    5) You should then see a list of applications ready to be installed for your Blackberry. Hit Next and Finish and you are well on your way to getting your Blackberry back to life. Congrats! Just don't disconnect anything and let the lengthy process finish completely.
NOTE: If you do not see a list of applications mentioned in step 5 and instead see the message "The Blackberry Desktop Software does not have Blackberry Device Software for the device that you have connected to the computer. Contact your wireless service provider or system administrator," then you must download Blackberry's Operating System for your carrier and device.
    http://www.blackberryfaq.com/index.php/BlackBerry_Operating_System_Downloads
Just select the appropriate carrier and network type, select your Blackberry model from the list and download the latest version. Install this download and follow the above steps again and you should be on the right path.

  • Firefox does not actually crash. I have frequent power surges and Firefox does not want to reopen after a power loss. Any suggestions?

Power outages are only a few seconds long as the power company switches providers. Happens once about every two weeks. If in a Firefox session, Firefox will not reopen for four to five minutes after the computer is restarted. When it opens, it does not return to the previous session with an error message that essentially states "Gee we're sorry and embarrassed". I am using Window's Vista with Firefox as my default we browser. Firefox is up to date with the latest version installed.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    See:
    * [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]
    * [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    * Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe Mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

  • Update: 8330 Curve does not want to start

I have had my curve for about two weeks now and all of the sudden, it wont start. It goes to a white screen like it is going to start and then it goes black. The little light in the top right corner stays red the whole time when it has a black screen. What does this mean and is there something wrong with the phone?
Edit: This goes on like this in an infinate loop until I remove the battery. When I install the battery again, it will keep this loop up.
Message Edited by noboruryu on 07-29-2008 06:31 AM

Your phone needs a software reload.
Get the latest version of software from your carrier website.
once downloaded to computer, connect the device via usb and upgrade firmware.
Use BlackBerry Application Loader to install BlackBerry Device Software
note: The phone doesn't need to be turned on to do a firmware upgrade.
once you get to the device recognition stage in the application order, it should auto pre-populate the device pin. if it doesn't, try connecting it without the battery until it does. then click next and pop the battery back in the finish the reload.
If your issue is resolved, put a checkmark in the green box that contains the resolution.

  • I updated an iphone 3g and it does not want to restore after the backup.

i have an old iphone 3g and there was an update available from my itunes. i updated and it went through the whole process, but when it started to restore and update i get a message saying that device was unable to restore unknown error (1015) i have updated my itunes to the most recent version and i restarted my computer but i still get the same error code. i dont know what else to do. and right know i cant afford to pay for online support. what eles can i do to fix this?? PLEASE HELP!!

    Welcome to the discussions,
did you try to connect in recovery mode? http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
If this does not work, try to delete the iphone software file located in C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates to make iTunes download a new copy when you connect in recovery mode. Maybe the file stored on your PC is damaged.

  • MySatellite A100 does not want to start

    Well, here is the problem:
Today, I wanted to start up my PC as usual. I entered my user-name and my password as usual and then appeared the usual message "Welcome".
But then, it remained blocked at that message. The entire screen remained blocked.
I restarted my PC and chose the "Safe-Mode", it worked AS USUAL, but then when it restarted automatically the same problem appeared.
I tried again for several times, but now I meet the same problem with the safe mode!
I can do anything! Despite having the formulae for User Name and Password, Ive a black screen with only the cursor and it remains like that...
Please help me! I'm afraid that I'll need to reboot the system but I do not want to lose my data, my memories, all things...
Is there a solution? It's A Pity! I can afford it.
    Please Help!

I think you might need to reinstall your operating system, but you might try copying your data first using another computer. An external drive caddy will let you hook your hard drive up to another computer so you can copy your files off.
Another option is to buy an external hard drive caddy and another hard drive for your computer, reinstall your operating system, and then get your old files back using the external hard drive caddy.
If you're familiar with using Linux, you might try booting from a newer Knoppix Live CD. Then, open a Terminal, become root, make a directory and mount your main hard drive partition to that, go into that directory and make another directory called "backup", move all of the other directories and files into the "backup" directory, then unmount the hard drive. Reinstall the operating system, but make absolutely sure that you do NOT delete, move, change, create, or format any partitions. This is the process I usually use, but if you don't know how to do it, then it's easy to make a mistake and lose all of your data.

  • IPAD does not want to start

    I have a problem iPad is iPad 2 3G w/16gb,
it is 4 years old. sustained no damage at all, worked fine up to a few days ago when it didn't wake up, did the reset with the home button and the power on/of one, it worked, then after i left it alone again it wouldn't wake up.
tried to reset again, didn't work, made sure its charged. reset again, eventually worked. I restored the product with new installation of iOS via iTunes. it worked for a day, then wouldn't wake up. rest worked again, device worked fine for a day. yesterday device wouldn't wake. reset doesn't work, was charged overnight, still doesn't work.
Attempt to put in recovery mode, not responding, iTunes does not recognize the device when plugged in with or without home button being pressed.
I have a strange note, this problem happened once before 1 year ago at almost the same time and it fixed alone , and I can find someone on community had the same problem on Jan 2014 , and Apple replaced the IPAD fro him, so is there any chance this problem related to the very cold weather, does cold weather can affect CPU or battery by any means ?
    Thanks & BR
    Moamen

It depends on what you consider very cold weather. iPad 2 environmental requirements
    iPad 2 - Technical Specifications
    Environmental Requirements
    Operating ambient temperature: 32° to 95° F (0° to 35° C)
    Nonoperating temperature: -4° to 113° F (-20° to 45° C)

  • Upgrade Acrobat 8.0.0. does not want to start

After giving user ID and password the installer starts and stops after just 1 sec. Nothing is installed and the version is still 8.0.0.
    Any suggestions?

I just go to help and then choose "Check for updates". When I dive into the folder structure I find that Adobe updater is Udater 5 (does this ring a bell?).
Just tried to do Update again via help and now it starts to install something called "Stock Photo Certificate" and then gives the error message " Stock Photo Certificate failed to install".
After pressing OK the installer starts from the beginning and tries to install the stock photo certificate stuff again which fails and again and again.. a loop.

  • Imac does not want to start up

    Hi,
I have just had my logic board replaced by Apple(thanks apple) and have been happy to have my imac back. This morning it did not boot up and stopped on the dreaded blue screen, I look up in these forums for some help and took the advice of Miriam and reset the SMU and hey presto it worked, I cried. Then today the power in the town I live in went off and when it was restored the same thing happened it did not restart. I really do not want to go through the resetting process every time I want to use the computer and so am looking for the necessary guidance from those more knowledgeable than myself.
    Thanks

  • Mini Bridge does not open in InDesign after installing 8.0.2 upgrade

This question was previously posted in the InDesign forum (http://forums.adobe.com/message/5833991#5833991), but it was suggested that I should cross post it here.
I installed InDesign CS6 upgrade 8.0.2.  Now I cannot open Mini Bridge.
If Bridge is not already open,
         - selecting File | Browse in Bridge...  or clicking on the Bridge button: Bridge opens - good!
         - control-click on the Bridge button: I get a Reset Settings error dialog - NOT good!  I cancelled this and Bridge opened fullscreen okay.
         - alt-click on the Bridge button: Two Bridge applications opened fullscreen! - NOT good!
         - shift-click on the Bridge button: Bridge opens, but Mini Bridge does not! - NOT good!
    If Bridge is already open,
         - selecting File | Browse in Bridge... or clicking on the Bridge button: the ruler bars dim and nothing else happens! - NOT good!
         - control-click on the Bridge button: Bridge opens maximized! - good!
         - alt-click on the Bridge button: the already opened Bridge, plus a new Bridge, both open! - is this normal?
         - shift-click on the Bridge button: the ruler bars dim and Mini Bridge does not open! - NOT good!
I have tried resetting the preferences in Bridge and rebooted after doing so.
My main concern is that I cannot get Mini Bridge to open at all.  I can ignore the other problems mentioned above, if I can just get Mini Bridge to open.
This problem does not exist in Photoshop CS6.
I have restored my C: drive from backup twice and tried the upgrade a total of three times.  The results are the same each time.
Does anyone have any idea what is causing my problem and how I might correct it?  I am running 64-bit Windows 7 Professional SP1, 3.40 GHz Intel Core i7-3770 CPU, 32.0 GB installed memory.

Sorry to hear that, forgot to mention the resetting of preferences in InDesign.
Have you also tried that (ctrlAltShift while starting ID)?
I'm afraid I have not really more ideas and I am a Mac user and don't know anything relevant about Windows.
And ultimate you have of course the option to reinstall CS6 after an official uninstall in combination with the Adobe Clean Tool. But before doing so read all instructions and have a proper back up of all relevant customized settings, workspaces etc.
