Blackberry 8830 WE not compatable in Buenos Aires?!?!?!?!?!?

I have recently contacted my carrier, Sprint, because I will be traveling for the first time Internationally with my 8830 WE and was told that I will be unable to use my "World Edition" phone in Argentina.  They said this phone is not compatable.  How can this be?  I thought this was the go everywhere do everything phone?  They said I have to go buy or rent a different phone for the trip.  Has anyone else had this experience?  If so, is there any work around with this?  I am going to Argentina in 2 weeks and will need to have my phone!  Please help!!!!

I checked Verizon's web site, and there's no data service available for their 8830 in Buenos Aires either.
The Sprint site says that only a few phones will work there for both voice and data, but the 8830 isn't listed there although they do list it as being able to roam globally.  Here's the link.
At the company I work for where we have over 4,500 BlackBerries in the field, we initially offered the Verizon 8830, but we had so many problems with it outside of the US, that we removed it from our list of supported devices.
If you're traveling outside the US regularly, AT&T or t-Mobile are your best US carriers for International service.

  • Blackberry 8830 - Does not show Unlocking Window

I have the BB8830 WE, Verizon, bought second hand.
I bought it expressly to unlock for use in Europe.  However, before I pay for an unlocking code, I think my phone may already be unlocked?  Or maybe hardlocked?  Not sure.
I've unlocked the Curve for AT&T before and am familiar with the steps.
When I go to the SIM card menu (under Adv options), it allows me to type in MEPD - a menu pops up.
However, after that, when I type the following command: MEPE, nothing pops up for me to enter unlocking code.
I've tried it every which way - pressing ALT, pressing shift, with and without SIM.  The connection is always turned off when I do it.  Am I missing something?
Under the SIM menu (after I enter MEPD), all the items read "UNKNOWN".  It does not say "active" or "inactive".
Does that mean it is unlocked already?  Or maybe unfortunately Hard locked?
Does anyone have any information regarding this?

Once those ten attempts have been expended, the device can ONLY be unlocked by the factory, by sending the device to RIM for work, at your expense.

  • Can not sync my Blackberry 8830 with MacBook using Pocket Mac for BlackBerryto Entourage 2008

I recently purchased a Verizon plan with my new BlackBerry 8830 Curve. I also downloaded pocketmac for blackberry with the Verizon technical support person. He spent almost 2 hours with me yesterday. We still can not sync my Blackberry contacts and calendar events to my mackbook on Entourage 2008.
This is the message I get:
[02:20:57.110] Could not lcoate the Microsoft Entourage Office Synchronization Tool.
[02:21:01.076] Could not lcoate the Microsoft Entourage Office Synchronization Tool.
PS, they even typed in locate incorrectly.
Can some help? I am stressed out that I only have one location where my contacts are located- the BB
    Thanks
    Henry

Guess what ? Pocketmac for Blackberry just released a new version this afternoon. 4.125.
I downloaded the new version and it now has a sync for Entourage 2008 and it works BB to Entourage 2008 and Entourage 2008 to BB.
Thanks to them for finally fixing this major flaw

  • ADF - Blackberry Deployment - BB_ADFNMC_UI  not found

    Hello All,
I created a small test app which I tested in the Blackberry simulator and works just fine. Now I used JavaLoader from the the blackberry JDE 5.0 to load the my.cod file. The app is loaded to the blackberry with out any errors.
When I launch the app I get the error 'BB_ADFNMC_UI' not found.
At the begininnig of the build I see that it makes reference to the BB_ADFNMC_UI.jar (C:\oracle\middleware\jdeveloper\jdev\extensions\oracle.adfnmc.core\RIM\BB_ADFNMC_UI.ja) file and afterwords just before it completes the imports I see that it imports
    Parsing import: C:\oracle\middleware\jdeveloper\jdev\extensions\oracle.adfnmc.core\RIM\BB_ADFNMC_UI.jar
Did I miss something? Maybe on the blackberry side of things. Or do I need to upload something to the blackberry?
Thanks in advance for any help and assistance.

    Hey Jan,
Joe is right, and that's the only thing that needs to be installed on the device apart from your application.
When you do the Tools - deploy adf runtime to device thing, it should install the same 9 files that it does when you do tools - deploy adf runtime to simulator thing.
And 6 of those 9 files are having thier names starting with bb_adfnmc.....so that would fix the error you were noticing.
However, I am facing a problem when using that deploy adf runtime option for the device, it gives the error: The specified module was rejected by the device and cannot be loaded.
Now I did not have an SD card in my blackberry (8830) at the time of deploying the adf runtime clients, could that have been a problem?
    Or is it something else?
Jan, did placing the SD card help you?
Also, for the FOD app, do I just copy the "database" and "db_temporary" folders from the sample sd card simulator? Where do I place these folders, in the root of the sd card?
And then when configuring the local db in jdeveloper, the tutorial says that we should mention the path of the standalone db as"/SDCard/mobilefod.db", so should the db file also be kept in the root folder of the sd card?
Would appreciate any help from anyone, in this matter please!
    Regards,
    Hemant

  • Firmware Update for my blackberry 8830 world edition with Bell Canada

Hi does anyone know if there is firmware update for the Blackberry 8830 world edition with the carrier being Bell Canada?  I am running version 4.2 and I know there is 4.5 but I am not sure if this applies the my phone with Bell Canada. When I boot up my desktop manager and checks for updates and says that there is no update.  I don't want to update if it is not necessary and not be able to run my blackberry.  If I am able to update where would I go to get the 4.5 update?

You have to repair Desk Manager or unintall and reintall DM, but this time uncheck "Auto update" and anything that refer to "update" the reason why I mention that is because everythime you run DM, it goes online and check for newer version and put this file "vendor.xml" in the Blackberry Common Folder, and with that file in place, it will block the program from installing the newer version from a difference cell company..
From what I see 4.2 is the only version that is up to date for a 8830...but if you have a 8820, you can update to 4.5.

  • Blackberry 8830 World Edition -- won't play internet video

I cannot get my Blackberry 8830 World Edition to play internet video, such as YouTube videos, etc.
When I click to play them on my phone, I get this message:
"a problem occurred when trying to render page"
    Can anyone help?

If I'm not mistaken, you need OS 4.5 to do that and OS 4.5 has not been "officially" released yet despite what RIM tried to suggest in an email they sent out the "Blackberry Owners Lounge" members a month or so ago. I'm running the latest beta of OS 4.5 and it runs Youtube vids with a small tweak.
Unfortunately, you'll probably just need to wait until RIM finally gives us 4.5 officially.

  • Need help syncing Entourage - PocketMac - Blackberry 8830

    Hello,
I am new to Mac and am having a bit of trouble. I installed Entourage and Pocketmac and am trying to sync Entourage with my Blackberry 8830. I can sync my Calendar and Contacts without a problem, but neither my Tasks nor my Notes will sync at all. I have searched around online and have not found reference to this exact problem anywhere. I would like to get this resolved as soon as possible and would appreciate any advice, tips or fixes anyone may have.
    Thank you!

I have the same equipment (MacBook Pro) and 8830 and I'm getting the same results!! I also unchecked the "Tasks" and "Notes" and it synced fine. Since I'm using the "Getting Things Done" method, i'm going nuts without my tasks!! I hope a solution is found soon.

I have a Blackberry 8830 World Editiion Smart Phone. I need to reinstall the software and would like to get the latest version. When I get to "Select a Device" I see the 8820 but not 8830. I selected the 8820 software and installed it. Now when I use the device I can highlight all of the applications but not select any. The telephone still works but I can' access anything else.
Is this a coincidence or did I mess up by using the 8820 software?  If so, how do I get the 8830 software?

    Hello,
All support, including what you are looking or, is coordinated through your carrier...contact them and they can escalate it into RIM. However, be gentle...if the mistake was yours, you will need a generous and kind soul on the other end of the phone call.

  • Blackberry 8830 & Oracle Connector?

    Hi,
Has anyone else tried syncing the Verizon Blackberry 8830 with Oracle Connector for Outlook? I tried installed the BBDM patch from Oracle....but that only seems to work with BBDM 4.1. BBDM 4.2.2 is required for the 8830. Anyone have any workarounds? Or have you had any luck getting this to work?
    --Bill

FYI - I don't think you HAVE to have BBDM 4.2.X for
the 8830s (or any other BB for that matter).
Usually you need the install CD to get the device
driver so that Windows recognizes the device
correctly but after that you can use BBDM 4.1 (with
the Oracle Patch) and Outlook 2003 to sync contacts
    and calendar entries.
I do it every day with my 8100 and setup a customer
yesterday with his 8300. We've yet to run across a BB
that wouldn't use an older version. You do lose some
functionality (Media Manager for one) but generally
thats OK with business users.I can't get this work, maybe you could post intstructions for what has worked in the past?
This doesn't seem to work with the 8830. I install the Desktop Manager 4.1...and it doesn't recognize the device. So I install the .msi package for Blackberry Device Manager 4.2 or the .msi package for "USB & Modem Drivers 4.2". It appears to install properly...but during the install, it removes the Desktop Manager 4.1. If I try to reinstall 4.1 minus the device manager, it will not let me...that is a requited component.
Has anyone had any luck? This is very very frustrating.
I talked to Oracle support a few weeks back, and they said that RIM purposely locked out 3rd party vendors with this release. I have sent a letter to RIM asking them to work with vendors such as Oracle. So if you are having the same issue, please do the same!

    Hello,
The simplest way is to, on a PC (you cannot do this on MAC):
    1) Make sure you have a current and complete backup of your BB...you can find complete instructions via the link in my auto-sig below.
    2) Uninstall, from your PC, any BB OS packages
    3) Make sure you have the BB Desktop Software already installed
    http://us.blackberry.com/software/desktop.html
    4) Download and install, to your PC, the BB OS package you desire:
    http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
It is sorted first by carrier -- so if all you want are the OS levels your carrier supports, your search will be quick. However, some carriers are much slower than others to release updates. To truly seek out the most up-to-date OS package for your BB, you must dig through and find all carriers that support your specific model BB, and then compare the OS levels that they support.
    5) Delete, on your PC, all copies of VENDOR.XML...there will be at least one, and perhaps 2, and they will be located in or similarly to (it changes based on your Windows version) these folders:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
    C:\Users\(your Windows UserName)\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
6a) For changing your installed BB OS level (upgrade or downgrade), you can launch the Desktop Software and connect your BB...the software should offer you the OS package you installed to your PC.
6b) Or, for reloading your currently installed BB OS level as well as for changing it, bypass the Desktop Software and use LOADER.EXE directly, by proceeding to step 2 in this process:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Device-Software/How-To-Reload-Your-Operating-Syste...
Note that while written for "reload" and the Storm, it can be used to upgrade, downgrade, or reload any BB device model -- it all depends on the OS package you download and install to your PC.
If, during the processes of 6a or 6b, your BB presents a "507" error, simply unplug the USB cord from the BB and re-insert it...don't do anything else...this should allow the install to continue.
If you are on MAC, you are limited to only your carriers sanctioned OS packages...but can still use any levels that they currently sanction. See this procedure:
