  • BlackBerry z10 device memory problem

I have a problem with my BlackBerry z10 device memory. Over time the so called "other data" keep growing, eating up the internal memory even though i didn't install new apps. So now i have less than 1 gb free storage and keep getting message that i should move some files to the external memory. The "other data" is now at 14.8 gb. BlackBerry 10 os don't let us see the content of this data but i know that all of the apps i installed take less than 4 gb. I wanna find the solution before i factory reset my z10. I don't like to have to install all those apps again.

MaxMem was a tool that could "free up space" in OS's 4.2 to 6.0.  It hasn't been updated since sometime in 2008.  There is no BB10 version.

On your BlackBerry10 device with a non-removable battery:
Restart: Press and hold the upper edge power button a couple seconds and the tap the lower right RESTART.
    or,
Reboot: On the side edge volume keys, press and hold down both of the Up and Down volume keys for about 20 seconds, ignoring the initial screenshot message... the screen will go black and reboot.
Now, what is the System space noted above.

  • Blackberry 9300 Curve Memory

I have a Blackbery Curve 9300 , and I get a message that my phone is short of Memory. I now wish to delete some of the old stuff. Please tell how do I do it. I tried to use Help in My Blackberry and it advices to turn on memory cleaning. On clicking I get a message "On Home screen or folder, click Options icon ? ( cannot see any icon except what appears on the drop down.
    Please help

If you want to delete apps, scroll to in on the menu and hit the BB menu button (you know, the one that looks like the Blackberry logo). Delete should be in there. You might need to reboot your phone after deleting some apps though, it'll warn you if you do.
That usually works if you select other stuff - like photos - that you want to delete too.

  • Upgrade to OS 6 took up all space on device memory

I recently upgraded my Curve 9300 from OS 5 to OS 6. The upgrade has taken up over 144 MB of space of the DEVICE memory. leaving barely any space free on the device. can anything be done about it? Shouldnt an upgrade have removed the older s/w? Eitherway, what can I do about it now?
    Thank you

You can downgrade the OS back to OS5 if you prefer.
    1. Delete the newer OS from your PC by going to Control Panel >Add/Remove Programs. (If you never physically installed the OS to your PC, skip to step 2.)
    2. Then download and install the older version of the OS. BlackBerry Operating System Downloads
    3. Install the older OS to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
    4. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
    5. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

  • Faulty In-Warranty Blackberry 9300 - What do we do?

Hi, I am new to the forum so forgiv me if there is an obvious answer to this.
We have a faulty Blackberry 9300 that we purchased in early December 2010.
There is bad distortion, keeps call failing and freezing.
The supplier that we purchased it from will not take it back as is beyond their 30-day purchase period and we are now stuck with what we can do.
Can anyone please let us know what we can do or where we can send it as should still be under manufacturer warranty?
    Thanks.

    Hi
Sorry to hear of your difficulty.
The Blackberry is designed to be reset by removing the battery whilst the device is powered-on. Leave the battery out for a minute or 2.
See if that resolves the problem.
If not, then more information will be needed before making suggestions. Please provide as much as you are able of the the following
    Blackberry Model.
    Carrier Name.
Do you have a Data Plan?
Operating System Version go to Menu > Options > About - it looks like v5.0.0.681
Memory for Device and SD Card Options > Memory
    Any error statement or code.
The Exact nature of problem - the more info the better.

Did a battery pull fix your issue? Temporarily
Apps installed and their version if possible. (Go to Settings, then Options, then applications):
WhatsApp, BlackBerry Messenger, Twitter, Screen Muncher
My Question is if anyone can help me with the White Screen issue I am having, I took my phone into a shop to get it repaired the water indication on the screen had changed to pink and they said that they will clean the device and get rid of any water damage, before I had it cleaned it would go white screen very often but now it has been cleaned it I can use the phone it only seems to do it when I attempt to make a call, I have to perform a battery pull to get rid of the solid white screen, then when I restart the phone it lets me make a call. The staff in the shop I took it to said the screen seems to be working perfectly fine and that if the clean does not fix it then I will have to have the screen replaced which I dont see will help if it is working fine.
So I would really appreciate any help with this problem
    Thanks

    Hi Noncommercial,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community.
To rule out any possible software issue that may be causing the white screen to occur on your BlackBerry® Curve™ 9300 smartphone, please try to back up your data and perform a clean reload of your BlackBerry® Device Software. For further instructions, please see the following KB articles.

Please test to make sure the issue has been resolved before restoring any data from your backup file.

  • Blackberry 9300 g3 curve and Eduroam

I have recently bought a Blackberry 9300 3g curve but I am not able to connect to Eduroam at my work (University of Twente) and I am frustrated. I tried several things but simply it did not connect. However, I can connect to the WiFi network of the university if I login as a guest. But it is valid for one day only. I am sure that some one must have found a way to connect to Eduroam in the Netherlands and will be very grateful if you can help me in setting up my blackberry.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.

  • Transfer old blackberry device data to new BlackBerry 10 device, without old blackberry device

    Hello,
I recently bought a new BlackBerry Q10, I had a BlackBerry Bold 9790 running on OS 7 before this and I had backed it up from BlackBerry Desktop Software. I had no knowledge that BlackBerry 10 devices don't work with BlackBerry Desktop Software, so I sold my Bold 9790 and then bought a Q10. I need to recover all the data of my old Bold 9790 to my Q10, but sadly Q10 doesn't work with BlackBerry Desktop Software. If I download BlackBerry Link it will ask me to connect my old device to transfer files.
So basically I need to transfer the backup file of my old phone to the new phone.
    Please help me out. Thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

First, the device has been out for over a year and a half.  BlackBerry has put the information out there.  I easily found the information below with a quick Google search that brought up this article, KB33322
While it hasn't yet been updated to reflect the latest update to Link, I made a few minor changes to the instructions to get to the same options in the new version of Link.
Media Files saved on the device internal memory will be transferred if you check the box for "Media files saved on internal memory."  Media files saved under Content Store on the old device will not.
    Here are the instructions:
Connect the BlackBerry 10 smartphone to the computer using the USB cable.
At the left side of the BlackBerry Link screen, click name of the BlackBerry 10 smartphone.
Select Restore Device > Legacy Device Backup Files.
    Select the desired backup file.
Select the data to restore to the BlackBerry 10 smartphone. To restore all supported data, select the Restore all data check box.  To choose the data to restore select Custom Restore.
Note: For a description of the BlackBerry smartphone databases, refer to KB03974.
    Click Restore.
    1. Please thank those who help you by clicking the "Like" button at the bottom of the post that helped you.
    2. If your issue has been solved, please resolve it by marking the post "Solution?" which solved it for you!

  • Serious problem with blackberry 9300 Curve handset and denial from BB to replace the same, under warranty.

    Dear Blackberry Authorities,
It is really a horrible experience with the handset of blackberry for me. I have purchased blackberry Curve handset 9300 on 22nd April from a "Phone Store”, Shop No.78,79,community centre, New friends colony, New Delhi, The Invoice No. is 319,The details of the handset are as follows:
    Handset: Blackberry Curve 9300 1256-India Qwerty-Pink
    Name: Blackberry 9300: ETA-716/2010/WRLO
    Model: RDA71UW
It has been more than just three months ,when i purchased this handset ,It worked fine for about only fifty days from the date of purchase and from the second month ,to my shock, serious problem started in the handset and some time it was getting hanged ,sometime some keys in the keypad did not work ,some time it was getting hanged the moment I receive incoming call., sometime sms sending problem, some time some other problem ..Every time I used to switch off the phone and start again, then it used to work but after some days again there were some other problem occurring in the handset.
The phone was not getting connected to PC from the starting, and i have tried so many times but i fail to get success.
Many a times when I used t send sms the entire alphabet typed on sms has gone separately as a single alphabet in a particular sms to the recipient, causing embarrassment for me in my organization. I would blame the black berry for this embarrassment as this has caused due to faulty phone they have sold me,
I am service class person and i get occupied with my work at office in the day hours and doesn’t have time to go to the service centre of blackberry every time the problem occurs, as there are only one service centre available in Delhi at Lajpat Nagar. The service centre is about 20 Kilometers away from the area my office is situated, I managed to keep the phone running by switching off and switching on after one or two minutes, every time the problem occurs but in the first week of last month ,when the problem started continuing  after  switching off and switching on also ,I was bound to go to service centre at noida since it is close to my place (about 14 Km) in comparison of Lajpat nagar at new delhi, the service engineer at blackberry service centre saw my phone and said there is some software problem which can be rectified by reinstalling the software, and there are some hardware problem also (some keys on the keypad is not et. all working) ,for which i have to surrender my phone to them and they will send it to the Blackberry Office (they did not give address) and it would take 15 days  at least ,thus since I had no back up phone and my each and every contact no. was there in phone it was difficult for me to give them handset at that time ,so I requested them to rectify the software problem by re installing the same.
I asked the service manager to get the backup of all the data and contact no saved into the phone, but they refused to do so and they asked me to go to some other shop nearby to get the data backup, I went to that shop and they asked 250 Rupees for data backup of my phone. I was bound to say yes to them for the amount the charge for backup .I gave them my handset and after 20-30 minutes they came back to me by saying, we cannot store your data backup as it is not connecting to PC. It was a highly disappointing reply for me.
Then i again went to your service centre and written down some important contact no.(the number which was stored on phone book) on piece of paper  and taken out my SD card ,and gave them handset for re installing the same.
They gave me my handset after one and half hour and said" now it would work fine except hardware problem.".I came back and to my utter shock again after two three days handset was into its old condition ,then also I tried to manage with handset and when i could spare sometime I went to your service centre again on 24th July at Noida,
they took the phone and said it would take 12-15 days to return the handset after rectifying the problem, when i requested them to change the handset with a new handset which is at least in good working condition , they clarified that if the hardware problem is not manageable or repairable ,i would get new handset had no option except to give them handset for rectifying the problem.
Now,It is the time for a biggest shock from blackberry people-Today on 3rd August ,i have received a call from noida blackberry service centre to inform me that my handset cannot get repaired under standard warranty conditions of blackberry as there are some moisture into the phone and there is no warranty if there is a moisture inside the phone.
Thus now i wish to inform all the concerned ,Blackberry/Research in Motion ,managers/authorities ,that i have explained above ,all the things ,happened to me in last three months of my purchase of handset, in detail ,so i would again request to Blackberry/Research in Motion ,managers/authorities, to rectify the problem of my handset or change the entire handset so that I can use the same peacefully and should not roam around the service center of blackberry.
Giving this lame excuse that "there is a moisture inside the handset and thus it can’t get repaired or changed under warranty " is a clear case of cheating and harassing the customer, I have bought the handset to use it for my communication purpose not to roam around the blackberry service center nor to put water or moisture inside the handset and play with the handset and fight with all of you.
If there were some moisture inside the handset then that should have been seen by the noida service centre people also during my First visit itself by them and they would have refused taking the handset for repair. They did not refuse but accepted handset and reinstalled software also, If there was some moisture that would have been seen by them that time only.
In my second visit also the took my phone and seen the inside condition also of handset in front of me ,they did not see any moisture, that time also ,and now after 10 odd days ,there are some moisture inside the phone??????.
I have no idea how blackberry keeps its handset ,which has come to them for repairing ,but if there is any trace of moisture into my handset ,that would have come into the handset ,during these 10 days only when phone was with blackberry authorized service engineers for repair purpose. What I know is that My Blackberry handset is under warranty and it is not working properly thus it should be replaced by Blackberry.
On the keypad if some key are not working that is a hardware problem which was there in the handset and it has no connection with the moisture.
If this is the way blackberry is treating its customer, i would say it is harassing its customer, and does not want to rectify the problem .in this case, I would have no option left except to go to the consumer court in Indian judiciary system. And moreover i would inform my and other friends, organizational employee also not to use services/or buy blackberry handset if this is the way BB is treating its customer.
I would request all the concerned persons/managers/authorities of Blackberry/Research in Motion, take action into my case urgently and rectify the core problem into my handset instead of giving lame excuses, and change the faulty handset of mine with a new properly working handset under warranty condition.
    Best Regards
    Asim

  • Mysterious 'android' folder in device memory that cant be deleted

hi... i have a bb q5 and been using it since 2-3 months now... there is an 'android' folder that appears in the 'misc' folder of the device memory. i cant get rid of this from the bb file explorer as well as from the laptop. when i try to del it, it say permission denied. i guess it started when one of my friends used my sd card in their android based phones. this folder contains all those folders that are there in the device memory like photos, camera, music etc. and some other folders like dcim, notifications. sometimes it shows 11 items inside and sometimes 12 or 13. i dont know if it's a bug or something but it seems quite irritating as it contains nothing space wise. i cant del it from my laptop bcos when i press del, nothing really happens and its still there... so pls can anyone help get rid of this...

It's my understanding that folder is there for access by the Android runtime software.
    Leave it.

  • Insufficient Device Memory to Update to 10.2.1

I went to install the new update (10.2.1.537) onto my Q5 through my phone, received the notification telling me device storage was almost full and the install failed.
I then cleared out my device memory, moving everything I had access to onto media card or simply deleting it.
When I go to install the update now before it begins it asks me to free up around 1.1-1.4GB (the exact value varies between attempts) of space on device memory even though I already have 1.5GB free and it says the size is 1008MB.
I have very few apps installed and most aren't very big (all below 50MB if you exclude BlackBerry Runtime for Android.) I also tried deleting email accounts and message history in Whatsapp but they made very little difference.
Of the 8GB total space 6.3GB is taken up by "Other data" and looking in file manager seemed to show 3GB of this was from the Device/misc/android folder in the form of hidden files. (Not within any of the folders inside the android folder.) All other device folders are completely empty as far as I can see.
Any advice of how to make up the space so I can upgrade would be really appreciated as I'm at a bit of a loss now.
    Thanks!

Hi, sorry it took a while to reply but this was a bit of a lengthy process. Worked like a charm though, thank you ever so much!

  • Clear Device Memory

I have a Tour 9630, running OS v5.0.0.484 on a US Cellular network. I'm receiving a "device memory full" prompt but I have deleted all but two apps totaling 3mb, there are no pictures and only the required applications still installed on the phone. Why does the 252.5mb of application storage continue to read as full?? - Saltydog

Thanks for coming back with more information...it always helps our ever-growing "knowledge base" that this site is becoming.
I'm not sure exactly what "deleting device data" means in your case -- AppMemory and Device Memory are separate memory areas, so doing something in one would not affect the other. Rather, via AppLoader, you can remove optional components of the OS (e.g., languages) that you don't need, apps that are extraneous, etc. There also are less-destructive levels of WIPE, with ResetToFactory being the most destructive (of the native methods, that is).
You also need to be sure that you are checking your AppMemory right after a fresh batt-pull reboot, before other apps have been able to begin consuming AppMemory for their purposes. After a little time (maybe an hour), you can generally discover a "normal" level for your situation...assuming of course there is nothing with any memory leaks, as those would cause an inability to really properly analyze what's going on with AppMemory.
There is also Safe Mode as a diagnostic...to see how things are when all 3rd party apps are prevented from auto-loading whatever they have.
Further, an even more destructive (and indeed "cleaner") method is to perform a different kind of WIPE (e.g., BBSAK or JLCMDR) and then reload the OS cleanly, but being sure to leave off all of those optional things during the initial reload. This is actually the best way to maximize your AppMemory available storage...sometimes, merely removing (post-install) things (e.g., apps, languages, etc.) does not release quite as much AppMemory as just never installing them at all would provide for.
Further still, there may be updated OS levels that handle memory better (or, yes, worse...always a possibility!) than the current version you are running.
Those are about all the thoughts I've got on the topic...there are of course several official KBs on the matter:
KB02843What is the Low Memory Manager feature on the BlackBerry smartphone
KB14320How to maximize free space and battery power on the BlackBerry smartphone
KB14213Call logs, SMS text messages, and email messages are deleted from the BlackBerry smartphone
It is always, of course, important to properly close applications when you are done with them. Using the Back or the Red key will not do this -- those leave it to the app to decide what to do...and some will leave themselves resident in memory, consuming resources on your BB, slowing the overall performance. Rather, to close an app, press and select "Close" or "Exit"...that will force the application to be closed, freeing up for your new use the resources it was consuming. Some apps will always remain running (typically -- BBMessenger, Browser, Homescreen, Phone, and Messages)...but, you should still close them properly - especially the Browser...if it is left on an active web page, it will not only consume extra resources but battery power as well.
    Cheers!
