Blackberry a modem for a laptop

I have my blackberry set up as a modem for my laptop & it works.  But I can't access my email.  My OS is Vista.  Does someone know if there is a special thing that needs to be done?

Check your carrier's webpages for the Blackberry stuff. They should have links to specific software for various connections between Laptops, OS's, etc... I came across mine for AT&T today while poking around. You should have an account for your wireless account that you can check.
hmmm, don't know how I wound up in the business section but check the Communication Manager-

  • How do I use my 8300 as a modem for my laptop

    Hi all,
I'm new to this forum. This is my first post...
I'm trying to set up my 8300 smartphone to be used as a tethered modem for my laptop to be able to get the full internet content anywhere with in cell coverage.
    Question 1:
I got instructions from the 'BlackBerry HELP' icon on the phone (my question was: how do i use my device as a modem) which seemed very complete. The modem is dial-up and when I try to connect I get Error 718 (basically a timeout error).
    Can anyone help?
    Question 2:
Since this uses dial-up, would I be using my cell phone minutes?
    Thank you, Lar

    hello,
first thing is to look on the forum if people have already solved your issue. In this case, the tethering subject is quite frequent. You will certainly find your answer among these discussions :

If you are trying to connect via wifi to our iPhone then the password should be displayed on your phone when you go into Personal Hotspot, by default it is a random password set by the phone but you can change it there.

  • Can I use my phone as a modem for my laptop with its wifi?

If so, how can I do this exactly??
Windows xp professional (if that is of any help)

If your device supports mobile hotshot (which is not a modem) then you can use that.  But if you are using an 8520 you do not have that feature.

  • Have U found a way to use a Blackberry Curve as a modem for a PowerBook G4?

I just purchased a Blackberry Curve mobile phone. I am still running Mac OS X version 10.4.11.
One of the selling features for the curve is that it can work as the modem for a laptop via bluetooth.
However, I spent hours on the phone with both T-Mobile tech support and Blackberry support to just find out from Blackberry tech support that the Curve's modem feature is only set up to support PCs.
So, I was wondering if any brilliant minds out there have figured out a way around this?
If you do, could you please respond to [email protected]? Thanks.

Actually, it works with PPT for Windows because Microsoft MADE it work that way. It's why apps like EasyWorship (a windows only church lyric presentation app) can fire PPT files right in the app. There's some transparent control api that PPT has (or there's a third party company that makes it possibly) that just doesn't exist on the Mac.
Personally I wish Apple would build the Keynote engine INTO the OS in Snow Leopard so we can just be done with this issue. Then you could open Keynote files in say, QT or have ANY app be able to play Keynote files correctly. You'd just have to have Keynote to edit them. This would make things SO much more flexible.
QT can open and Play Motion files, why not Keynote?

  • E61 as Modem for Laptop

    Hello Forum,
Has anyone ever managed to use an E61 as a modem for a laptop so you can have some sort of mobile internet via GPRS when travelling? It only seems to work the other way around that one can connect the phone to a computer via IP passthrough and access internet on the phone via the computer. But how about connecting the computer through the phone? Would either use cable or infrared to connect to the phone but how would one get further on to the internet?
    E61

    Hello,
Yes I have but all these instructions presume you have the most recent PC Suite running. This doesn't work on W2K but there is a driver to download and install, just I don't know how to install it. Can copy it into the system folder but wouldn't it need a registry entry...?
    http://europe.nokia.com/support/product-support/nokia-e61/pc-software/modem-drivers
Cannot use the cable driver as this one is only for XP or higher but Bluetooth & IR should work. I f only I could install it on my computer.

  • USING BLACKBERRY 7290 AS MODEM FOR MACBOOK

I have been told this is possible. I have been on numerous boards with no help. I have been on PocketMac.com and downloaded the version to sync via usb. I need to find a way to use my 7290 as a modem for my Macbook. I have the new MacBook with Intel Core 2 duo and Mac OSX. Anyone out thereknow how this can be done? THANKS IN ADVANCE!

A Blackberry 8703e is a Sprint device, so you'll have to resolve the issue with Sprint.
Sprint fields what they term the Sprint PCS Business Connection. You'll need that option if it is not already part of your subscription plan, and you'll need to tether a laptop through your Blackberry 8703e and your carrier via USB. Bluetooth connections via DUN are not supported. To enable a connection, Sprint states that you'll need the Sprint Connection Kit, which you find for several different operating systems—including Mac OS X—here:
    http://www4.sprint.com/pcsbusiness/support/downloads/index.jsp?internalId=downlo ads
Except that, I wasn't able to locate a package for your Blackberry when I looked there: only packages for Sprint's PC data cards seemed to be available. So, you must perform the recursive loop at this point, and contact Sprint.
I don't believe that anyone but Sprint will be able to resolve the issue for you. You certainly cannot do it without enabling the data option, which only they can activate.

  • Can i use the Iphone 4S as a modem for a Samsung Laptop?

I've tried to link the samsung with the IPHONE 4S via bluetooth.  This appeared to be successful.  However I failed to get internet access on the laptop via the iphone's 3G data network.
Is there a way to do this.  Reason being is the laptop user needs would like to access the internet / obtain emails etc on his laptop whilst travelling to and from work.  His train doesn't have wifi.  I thought connecting the iphone and the laptop via bluetooth to get a connection via the phone network would be the answer but this doesn't seem to be the case.
Can anyone advise or is the only option to get a dongle for the laptop?

Yes, It does work via wifi but the person I am helping wants it to work in a non-wifi environment (his train doesn't have wifi) and he doesn't want to use a wifi dongle to incur extra charges.  So the only way I seemed to be able to get round this is using the USB cable.  The laptop then seemed to register the device automatically under networks and I was then able to connect and use his Iphone 3G connection.

  • Blackberry Password works for phone but not for Desktop Manager

    Hi guys,
I´m a first time user of BB and very pleased with the purchase. I recently setup a password to protect my phone. When it locks I simply type the password and it unlocks. To my surprise when I tryed to sync with the Desktop Manager it asks for the password but when I type it on my laptop it doesn´t recognize it and starts the 1/10, 2/10 tryes screen. The only solution was to remove the password from the device.
    Where am I going wrong?
    Appreciate any help.
    Thanx

Please be warned that ten incorrect attempts of the password will wipe your device--be careful.
You probably have a common user problem where you "think" you have an uppercase character or number in the password, and you really don't, becase your password is masked by asterisks when you first entered it, and you have continued to enter the password ON your device as you think it is.
Does that make sense? This is a common mistake.

  • Isdn modem for macbook pro

I am living in italy and the home i am in has isdn, does apple or someone make a modem for isdn that will work with my OS and laptop...i have the dialup modem, but i am told that isdn is faster.

Your Telco/ISP would provide an ISDN Modem with the service if it's available to you, give your Telco a call. (I think Tiscali offer ISDN across all of Italy)
I have an NTII (Australian Telco) ISDN Modem and it works OK on this MBP, it's just not as fast as my wireless link ...
