  • USING BLACKBERRY 7290 AS MODEM FOR MACBOOK

I have been told this is possible. I have been on numerous boards with no help. I have been on PocketMac.com and downloaded the version to sync via usb. I need to find a way to use my 7290 as a modem for my Macbook. I have the new MacBook with Intel Core 2 duo and Mac OSX. Anyone out thereknow how this can be done? THANKS IN ADVANCE!

A Blackberry 8703e is a Sprint device, so you'll have to resolve the issue with Sprint.
Sprint fields what they term the Sprint PCS Business Connection. You'll need that option if it is not already part of your subscription plan, and you'll need to tether a laptop through your Blackberry 8703e and your carrier via USB. Bluetooth connections via DUN are not supported. To enable a connection, Sprint states that you'll need the Sprint Connection Kit, which you find for several different operating systems—including Mac OS X—here:
    http://www4.sprint.com/pcsbusiness/support/downloads/index.jsp?internalId=downlo ads
Except that, I wasn't able to locate a package for your Blackberry when I looked there: only packages for Sprint's PC data cards seemed to be available. So, you must perform the recursive loop at this point, and contact Sprint.
I don't believe that anyone but Sprint will be able to resolve the issue for you. You certainly cannot do it without enabling the data option, which only they can activate.

  • Can I use my blackberry as a modem for my iPad cellular?

I'm not sure on how the iPad cellular uses its 3g functionality.
Do I need to insert my phone sim card into the iPad everytime I want to connect to the web using the 3g network?
    or
Can the iPad use my blackberry phone as a modem to connect to the internet?
(my blackberry is 3g and has modem functionality)
    Thanks.

If your device supports mobile hotshot (which is not a modem) then you can use that.  But if you are using an 8520 you do not have that feature.

  • Blackberry desktop software modem help?

So here's the story: I formatted my laptop lost BDS, tried reinstalling but failed, eventually copied the whole blackberry desktop software folder from another pc to mine.
But that didn't fix my problem since it didn't detect my device so I ran over to blackberry's site and downloaded the usb and modem drivers. I installed them and yay it detects my phone (after I manually run blackberry device manager). Now the problem lies with the modem configuration (the whole reason why I got the desktop software in the first place) when I press the mobile internet button it takes me to the mobile internet settings but nothing happens, there is just a green circle loading icon to the right of the profile option. It doesn't do anything and I can't chose any settings I did wait for 20 mins but still nothing.
    Please help

    Hey CrimsonCloud,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
    Thanks for the question.
First thing I would suggest is performing a clean uninstall of BlackBerry® Desktop Software.  Follow all of the steps in this KB article: www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB02206
Then restart your PC and go to www.blackberry.com/desktop to download the latest version of BlackBerry Desktop Software and install the software.  If you receive any errors, please let me know the exact error message.
Once installed, restart the PC and when the computer is up and running, connect your BlackBerry® Curve™ 9300 smartphone via USB and it should install drivers.
Once you get a notification saying the drivers are now installed, open BlackBerry Desktop Software and then try to setup your tethering.
Let me know if you have any mroe questions.
    Cheers.

  • Blackberry bold 2 (9700) as a modem for Powerbook 15"

Some times in an emergency without hot spots I´ll need to use my bold 2 as  a modem to have internet. I follow all instructions by the mexican carrier (Telcel-America movil) but I can´t get internet connection.

    Hello,
Try connecting it as a bluetooth modem or PAN.. Go to System Preferences/Network - Choose Bluetooth/ Where it says Telephone, enter your telephone number. Finally, goto advanced and select Generic and for model choose GPR (GSM/3G). Now you should be able to connect via the blackberry's bluetooth modem.
I do this all the time when I am at my friend's house.

  • MacBook Pro and connecting a Blackberry 8830 to use as a modem

I have a MacBook Pro(10.4.11) and I want to connect my BlackBerry to be used as a modem (bluetooth) I have Sprint PCS as my provider and a BlackBerry 8330. I have the proper plan, the computer and the BlackBerry recognize each other it just won't make a final connection. I have used pocketmac to sync my contacts etc.. Is there any 3rd party software that will allow be to use my BlackBerry as a modem?

    Check out this web site:
    http://www.rimarkable.com/more-on-the-blackberry-870-bluetooth-modem-tether
and see if it sheds some info for you. You can also google "BlackBerry 8330 as modem on a Macintosh" for more.

  • After using as modem, can no longer send/receive email. Any ideas why?

My IT department recently upgraded the service to include use of Blackberry as a modem.  That works fine...the problem is each time I connect to the computer, it somehow wipes out my setting on the once I unplug,   I'm on an Enterprise Server so each time this occurs, my IT folks have to reset my password.
Sprint had me erase the "Service Books" on the phone and then gave me a new one but that did not work.
    Thanks in advacne!

I suggest backing up your device, then preforming a clean application load of the device software. To do this see the article below:

    Hope this helps.

  • Connecting to an external blackberry mobile, to use its internet?

    Hi,
I'm really really thinking about getting a 32gb iPod touch (4th gen),.... but one pet peeve of mine from the one I currently have (ipod touch 3rd gen, 8gb) is that it doesn't let you connect to any other phone, to "hijack" the internet capabilities. Obviously it can still connect via a wireless router, but thats not very practicle when out and about =)
Is this a feature of the 4th gen one? My brother seems to think it is (he's just brought one, but it won't be here for a couple of days)
    TIA
    Andy

    Thanks for the reply.
I'm using a Blackberry Curve... so looks like it should work ok.

  • Blackberry Bridge: Error: Couldn' connect to server

    Blackberry Playbook:  1.0.6.2390
    BB Torch V 6.0 Bundle 695 (c6.0.0.246 Plattform 6.4.0.105)
    newes BB-Bridge SW 1.0.0.93
New Mails are shown on the upper left corner (number, letter icon, and drop-down with sender and subject)
When selecting Messages: A browser window comes up saying: Error: Couldn't connect to server
All BB-Bridge Applications (Mail, Calendar, Contacts, Tasks, BBM, ) bring up the same error
Brigde-Browser, Bridge-Files do not show any reaction...
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I tried two re-installs, but still same problem. On the home screen I can see that new emails are coming in, but when I try to open email client, calender or any other bridge application, I always receive the Error: Couldn' connect to server message.
Also, it seems that if I want to use Internet on the go via my BlackBerry phone, I now must use my Blackberry as a modem. In the previous release I simply connected via Bluetooth Bridge and was ready to go.
Can somebody pleae explain why this has changed?

  • Software for external modem

I have a blackberry 9000 bold. I want to make it as external modem. The first step is to download a software: BlackBerry USB and Modem Drivers_(DM4.5 B13)_FRENCH. Is it correct? Is it friendly? Do I have an English version of this software? I am in Australia. Thank you.

    hello,
the English version of the software is here :
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/rim/board/message?board.id=BlackBerryDesktopSoftware&thread.id=3...
once that done, you just have told your PC there is a blackberry on the other side, nothing more.
you have to read how to activate tethering mode :

I have a comment : you are writting on the Curve board, so you'll find people who know about the Curve. You should post your questions on the Bold board :

  • Bluetooth pairing of blackberry phone

I have had lots of difficulty pairing my Blackberry 8220 with my Mac Book (OS10.6.2).
When I set up in bluetooth preferences (set up assistant), it directs me to enter an 8 digit number into the blackberry. When I do I get the error message that says pairing failed, would you like to use another passcode option. i tried all 4 options. the only one that works is the "no pass code option".
It reports successful with the following message " congratulations, pairing was successful. You may now use your phone to connect to the internet etc..." problem is its not not really paired. when i go to bluetooth preferences it shows as not paired & not connected.
I have 4+ hours invested with Blackberry & Apple tech support with no success.
My ultimate goal is to tether (use my blackberry as a modem) my Phone, but I need to get the simple task of pairing the phone accomplished first.
    Please help if you can....

Actually I have a Storm which doesn't have physical keys so there is no ALT key like my Tour. And with my problem I never got to the stage where I could enter a number, the error came first. I did, however find a solution that worked in my case. I had to uninstall Blackberry Desktop Manager.
Here's what I wrote on Crackberry.com after the fix:
After some searching and tinkering, I've got Tether working on my MacBook running 10.6.2 with my Storm 9530 via bluetooth (very nice). It basically comes down to a conflict with Blackberry Desktop Manager so unfortunately it can't coexist with Tether. But for those of us with Parallels, VMWare or VirtualBox, I'd suggest keeping the Blackberry software on the Windows machine anyway because there are so many more tools available.
    So
    1. Uninstall the mac Blackberry Desktop Manager. I was using version 1.0.2. You can redownload if necessary to get the uninstaller. Reboot to complete the uninstall
    2. Try pairing your device via bluetooth from the mac. This immediately generated the passcode unlike previous attempts with the BBDM installed.
    3. Run Tether on the BB and select bluetooth as the connection type
    4. Run Tether on the Mac and select bluetooth as well
    5. Finally enjoy Tether (hopefully!)
    Plus
Move BB backups and software to virtual machine. I had problems with the mac BBDM automounting while I was trying to do things with my BB via the windows VM so I'm anticipating that this will solve that problem too.

  • Blackberry Tethering & USB mobile broadband

Ok so I recently bought the option to tether my blackberry to my laptop and surf the internet.  Here is the thing a friend of mine has the Verizon USB modem for mobile broadband and was going to sell it to me.  I was wondering if I would be able to use that to surf the internet instead of my blackberry.  Thouhgt I would ask the questin before I bought it from her.

I would suggest to verify that the ESN is good on the device before purchasing the device, like bolder stated. Keep in mind that it's $30/a month to use your Blackberry as a modem that allows you to have 5GB allowance a month, while you'll be paying 59.99 per month for 5 GB or $34.99 for  250 MB with a broadband card. Hope this helps!
