Blackberry Bold freezes on start up

Please help urgetly, my phone freezes halway through rebooting process. This happens even after performing two software updates.

Sebs wrote:
I never dropped the device since, but before it started freezing during startup it was switching off by itself. Preceeding this problem of switching off by itself, I set it to do backups.
The software update was done by downloading the latest 10 OS software on my laptop and then used the usb cable to do the updates.
The problem occured even after restoring backup and installed apps on both occassions of softwarer updates.
I tried to boot in the safe mode but nothing happens as it still hangs in the same spot during startup.
It does not make any difference as I tried it with sim card inserted and without one.
Please Clarify what Device you are trying to troubleshoot, also update your profile. The Bold 9900 will never run OS 10.

First thing? Check the File Free at Options > Status, what is the number at File Free?
Now, leaving the device powered ON, remove the battery of your device, hold a minute, replace and reboot.
What is the File Free now?

  • Why is it so difficult to get an answer on how to connect a Blackberry Bold 9930 to a Windows 7 PC?

I've been jumping through hoops for days trying to get my brand new Blackberry Bold 9930 to connect to either of my two PCs. It will not connect to my new MacBook Pro or a new Windows 7 laptop. I am up to date on all software. This is very frustrating. Can anyone please help? I've read article after article and I cannot believe RIM does not post a fix for this. I've wasted hours trying to get this thing to work. It is no wonder people are moving away from Blackberry.

    Hello,
Well, it works just fine for many people...and there's no way to know, from your post, why it's not working for your specific situation...which quite naturally would preclude posting any sort of fix to your situation. From what you've said, all I can recommend is this:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/Desktop-Software-for-PC/Cleanly-quot-Starting-Over-quot-with-...
It starts with a process for cleanly starting over, and there is some discussion, and there is also a post (15) with links to older Desktop Software versions, if those are needed. Note that this is not, by any means, guaranteed to work...but it has worked for many to resolve issues they are having.
Of course, if we could know more about what exactly is going on in your situation, we might be able to provide you with better guidance...but from a report that basically boils down to "it's not working", there's really no direction to go in seeking out help for your specific situation. Details about exactly what you try and exactly what results may be more helpful.
Also, here is the list of other troubleshooting articles...hopefully something will be useful:

Also, check that you are using only root USB ports...no hubs (sometimes the front-side ports are hubs...use a rear USB port). And make sure to try disabling USB power management in your system configuration (Device Manager).
Also check on conflicting software...it has been reported that the software package NTI Shadow&Ninja can cause a conflict; removing them and reinstalling the BB desktop software allows it to install correctly.
Apologies in advance if this is redundant -- there's no way to be sure if you've already seen and tried these. Also apologies if any are not presently available...RIM takes them up and down at will as they revise things.
    Hopefully something there is helpful!

  • Blackberry Bold Media Card Backup

I'm new to the Blackberry (Bold 9650), so I might be missing what I've been looking for.  Most of the time, when I start, and particularly reboot my device, it always comes up with the message saying that the new media card has errors and asks if I want to correct the errors.  Then it asks me if I want to save lost clusters.
A service tech told me to back up my data card to the computer and then reformat my card.
    Questions:
    1.     Is the data card and the media card the same?
    2.     Will all data, including video and pictures be saved?
    3.     How do I save it to the computer?
    4.     This is a brand new phone with card.  Why is it damaged?
Thank you for any advice and help you can give.

    Questions:
    1.     Is the data card and the media card the same? Yes, the two names are referring to the same thing.
    2.     Will all data, including video and pictures be saved? That depends on how much damage there is to the card, if there is any.  Correct errors, save lost clusters....sounds like a bad card.  Data may or may not be recoverable, and all you can do is try.
    3.     How do I save it to the computer? You'll need a slot on your computer or a card reader, and if it is a micro SD, you'll need an adapter to fit it into the computer slot or card reader.  My micro SD came with an adapter - you can find them at places like Office Max, Staples, Best Buy, etc.  Put the card in the slot and read it like any other drive - copy everything on the card to a folder on your computer.  Then you can reformat the card, "fix" any errors, and try to recopy the information back to the card.  Me?  I'd spend another $10 and get a new card.
    4.     This is a brand new phone with card.  Why is it damaged?   It happens. The cards are so tiny, and delicate, they get damaged easily.  If the phopne came with the card already installed, it may be under warranty and you can get it replaced at the store where you got the phone.  Do the backup of all your information on the card, then take it in and see if they will replace the card.
Thank you for any advice and help you can give.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
If you have used up all of your chances to enter the correct unlock code, there is nothing further you can do. Even if you happen to have now the correct code, it is useless. Only the factory can now (legally) unlock your BB. Typically, I've heard that the cost of having BlackBerry do this for you will be greater than the cost of just buying a new one. But, you are able to ask them...see here:
    http://us.blackberry.com/support/programs/technical/incident.jsp
Note, however, that this process will start with a fee...
If you obtained your unlock code from somewhere but it was incorrect, your recourse could be with them -- however, they may well question why you exhausted all 10 attempts before contacting them.
    Good luck!

  • Z10 freezes during start up

My z10 freezes during start up. First I can see the red led on, then the BB logo and "blackberry" on the screen and it stays there forever.
I have tried to update the OS, using BB update software option, at which after resetting my Z10 the green led stays on, though I cannot update it, getting the error message "error downloading Blackberry Desktop Software".
Any ideas ? I need to recover information in the phone's internal memory.
    Thank you !!!

So I did the Disc Utility, and the disc was sucessfully repaired. I restarted the iMac and got to exactly the same place as before: "Login window started" where it froze again. I turned it of, restarted in Safe Mode and it froze at the same spot.
Is the next step to try reinstalling the OSX? I didn't see an option to install in place ie leave all my files intact. There's an "Archive and install" option. Does this just archive the system folder and erase all my other files. I'm pretty much backed up but I'd much prefer not to erase the files if I can avoid it.
    Thanks

  • Blackberry Bold Not Compatible With Golf Program

I Recently purchased a Blackberry Bold because I was excited by all the features offered. I Am So Very Disappointed By The Fact That I Can Download But A Can Not Use The Program I Purchased By GOLFLIX.com Which Features A GPS For Golfers. I mainly upgraded to the Blackberry Bold Mainly For The Ability To Use This Product.  There Are Hundreds of Golfers Out There That Would Probably Switch To Verizon If This Product Was Available.
Does anyone out there know of a Golf GPS Program that is downloaded to the Verizon Blackberry Bold?

  • Blackberry Bold 9650

I just got a new Blackberry.  All I can say is I hate it.  It doesnt work.  I have had to reboot twice already, once because there was no sound on rings from calls or the alarm.  Then you can only have the default search engine Bing, which is the worst search engine ever.  Then it has a choice of only 5 or 6 ring tones instead of maybe 20 or more on my Tour.  Then the device can't seem to connect to blackberry apps site.  it keeps givnig me an error message.

I could not agree more.  I purchased a Blackberry Bold 9650 in April and it was a mistake that has turned into a complete disaster!
The browser works some of the time and i do not know if the cause the Verizon 3G network of the device, but i suspect it is the device.  I pretty much given up on using this device to surf.  Every page opens very small so each page requires manual "zooming" and some pages get stuck in zoom mode where I have to quit the browser and start over.
I am not sure about Bing, but Opera was recommended to me, but even using Blackberry apps or Verizon apps, I cannot download the Opera browser.  I suspect that either Blackberry may have something to do with the inability to download a competing product.
BTW, do not use google sync with this device.  When I do the phone created duplicate contacts and appointments where now I have over 30,000 contacts (I started with 1,100) and dozens of appointments are duplicated hundreds of times in my calendar.
The screen is small and the keyboard is difficult to use.
I have to re-power the device at least once per day or it will lock up and Verizon tech support instructed by to pull the battery at least once a week to prevent lock ups.
At least the email functions work and the device is an email workhorse.
Now, I am stuck with a lousy product for 22 more months and I am a small business with limited resources.  The Verizon sales guy in Redmond, WA told me that I could by an Android phone or a new iphone for about $800 and try to dump the Blackberry on ebay.
Do not purchase a Blackberry Bold.  There are better choices than the bad choice I made.

  • BlackBerry Bold and iTunes

I have a BlackBerry Bold which only syncs with my non-DRM iTunes tracks. The options I know that are available to get round this are:
    1) Pay an extra 30p per track to upgrade them to iTunes Plus (DRM free) tracks - *Why should I? I've already paid for the track in the first place.*
    2) Burn the tracks onto a CD or DVD and then import into a playlist - *What a waste of CDs. I'll be up all night!!*
    2) Install a DRM stripper such as doubleTwist. - *Tried that. Took about 20 mins per track and kept locking up my PC! And there is a reduction in quality.*
    Help!! Is there another way?

You can always start to purchase MP3's through someone like Amazon where they also seem to be 20 cents cheaper.
I love my iPods, family has about 5, yet sharing collections without sharing accounts is a pain. A few members do the manual sync thing, but it has it's issues. Thinking long term it may be time to switch where I purchase music. Of course we do a lot of videos also, but haven't looked into where else to get those.

  • Blackberry Bold Problems

My daughter is on her 3rd Blackberry phone due to freezing and drainiing battery issues.  We have asked Verizon to upgrade her to a different phone but they want to keep sending her the refurbished ones because she has the insurance plan.  We have done this 2 times already and she keeps having the same problems. We have been customers for 20years and they will not even consider doing a new phone upgrade.  So much for loyalty counting for something.

    Hi,
Sorry to hear about your problems with the Blackberry Bold.  I have a Bold 9650 from Verizon Wireless, and from time to time, I will remove the battery and allow the device to reboot.  This usually takes care of any freezing issues.  As far as battery drain, I make sure I turn off the Wifi connection when I am not connecting to the internet.  My battery will drain pretty fast if I keep both going.  One other thing I did was to make sure I had the latest operating system installed on my Bold.  You can go to http://vzw.smithmicro.com/blackberry/ to download and install the latest software if you need it.
These were just a few things I did to make my device run smoother.  I ususally perform a battery pull about once every 3 or 4 days, just to keep things running smoothly.  I hope you get things going on your end.

  • Blackberry bold issues

I just retired and my employer let me keep my Blackberry Bold and I just swicted the account with Bell to a personal account.  I have not been able to get it to sync correctly with my outlook calendar and contacts.  I did download the software from blackberry to do it manually by plugging the phnoe into my home computer and it sort of works but sometimes contacts or appointments show up twice.  I talked to Bell but they said that I had to talk to someone at Blackberry.  Do these guys have a phone number where I can talk to an actual person?
Also I tried to download an app but that option is locked on my phone.  How do I unlock it?

I have to take back what I wrote. I wasn't thinking about the fact that you have a legacy model (BBOS). Starting over....
Do you know if the Bold had an IT policy on it? Do you know if it was removed? That is, was the device reset to factory defaults when you took it over?
If not, my thinking is it would be best to do that. You will run into other issues if you don't. Also, I'm not sure if your issue here is because of IT Policy. I just don't know. But as I say, you should remove the IT Policy if there is one, for several reasons.
As far as the BlackBerry Desktop Software and Outlook, see http://crackberry.com/blackberry-101-how-setup-your-blackberry-sync-outlook and review what you have done. Sounds to me like you have the sync set up. But double check.
If after all you still have duplicate contacts, there are several ways you can proceed. If all your contacts are in Outlook, clear the address book on the BlackBerry, edit duplicates out of your Outlook address book, and sync. See http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB05313 for info on clearing the address book.

  • Wanting to switch from BlackBerry Bold to iPhone 4....HELP!!!

I have a BlackBerry Bold and after owning it for about a year, I'm starting to regret it. It's not meeting up to my expectations and I would like to switch to the iPhone 4. The only problem is that I have a two-year-contract and it doesn't expire until October of next year.
Is it possible to go into my local Verizon store and swap my BlackBerry for the iPhone before my contract ends? If it is possible, do I have to pay the full retail price for the iPhone or can I buy it for the two year contract price like I did with my BlackBerry?
Or am I stuck having to wait until next year when my contract expires to switch phones?
    Thanks for the help!!!

You'll have to wait until you become eligible to upgrade in October to get the discounted 2 year contract pricing for the iPhone 4. You do have some options, though.
    1. You can purchase an iPhone 4 on Craigslist or eBay (or from a friend) and activate it on your line with no penalties. This will cost a lot more than the 2 year contract pricing, though.
    2. If you're having issues with your BB, and are out of your 1 year warranty period but do NOT have insurance on it, you can look into Verizon's CPO program. http://support.vzw.com/information/cpo_replacement.html
    3. If you are on a family plan with a line that is eligible to upgrade currently, you can use their upgrade to get the iPhone 4, and then let them use your upgrade when you become eligible (with their permission, of course)
    4. Number 3 will also work with anyone willing to let you use their upgrade.
