Blackberry Curve 8330 Email Filters

Almost all the mail I receive on my Blackberry is spam. I have good Outlook filters on my desktop computer, but my Blackberry has vastly too much spam.
If this were my desktop, I would solve the problem by only viewing message from people in my address book. When I go to the Blackberry site, I see there is filtering functionality, but the box in which you place filter email addresses is quite small. My Outlook address book contains about 2,500 contacts, so if I want to limit my BB messages to my Outlook contacts, I would need to copy/paste 2.500 email addresses in this small box.
I am looking for any suggestions as to how to best limit my BB email messages to my Outlook contacts. Anyone??

Start by doing a battery pull - while the device is on, remove the battery for 30 seconds, then reinsert it and wait for the device to reboot.  Does that help?
If it doesn't, ensure that the email folder isn't just hidden.  On the homepage, press the BB Menu button and select Show All (should show a little check mark).  See if you can find the email folder.
If that still doesn't work, please let us know as there are some other things we may be able to try.

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
If you are attempting to configure it for BES, then I suggest seeing your BES admins as they control the activation process.
If you are attempting to use your firm's internet-facing OWA and use BIS, then use these instructions:

If you have some other configuration, please let us know what it is so that we can guide you better.

  • BlackBerry Curve 8330 Email Deletion Question

Greetings and Salutations Black Berry People!
I have a BlackBerry Curve 8330 and a question concerning it.
My phone is currently connected to an exchange server that I sync with my phone. Is there a way to delete emails from my phone all at once, a mass purge of old emails under 1 condition: I don't want the emails on the exchange ( the old ones) to be deleted as well.
I've set my phone to delete messages from my phone after 30 days but can I do what I said in the above paragraph now?
    Thanks a bunch!

    hello,
in the messages application options, there is one to check delete on : handheld only.
so that if you delete a message on your blackberry, it is not deleted on the server.
in the messages list, you can hover on a date, hit menu key and select "delete prior". It will delete all messages that have a date before that date.

  • Blackberry Curve 8330 and Exchange Email??

Just got a Blackberry Curve 8330 and was hoping I could use it to get my corporate email.  We are using Exchange SP2 behind an ISA 2006 firewall and OWA is using a self-signed certificate for SSL.  When I attempt to setup this email on my Curve it can not connect to the Exchange server.  I was told that the Blackberry could use OWA to connect, but I am guessing either the ISA server or the self-signed certificate for OWA is causing the problem.  I really love the phone and don't want to have to swap it for something else because of this issue.

Ok, well first things first, Does your company have a Blackberry Enterprise Server with their exchange??
If they do, u need to have a Blackberry Enterprise plan on your service and you can connect straight to their BES/Exchange.
If they don't have a BB server, you will need to create a pop3 email to link to your device, and have your company forward all your exchange email to your pop3 email.
This is so large companys must 'pay' a few grand to host a Blackberry server and thus have the email all go through fine..
If your company does not wish to do this, you must sneak around it the 'Blackberry Internet Solution' way...
If your issue is resolved, put a checkmark in the green box that contains the resolution.

eh? No, that is not true.
While charging either to a wall outlet, automobile charger or the USB cable to the PC, the device is perfectly usable for ALL functions.

  • Blackberry curve 8330/ How to use as Modem

Hello Everyone! Please, I desperately need your help. I would like to use my blackberry curve 8330, as a modem for my laptop pc. Can it be done? If so; how? If it cannot be done can you let me know that as well. Thank You all very much! I wait to hear from someone

    from http://docs.blackberry.com
    Bluetooth profiles
Depending on your BlackBerry® device model and wireless network, some profiles might not be supported.
A/V Remote Control (AVRCP): This profile allows you to use the buttons on a Bluetooth enabled headset to perform actions such as adjusting the volume or playing the next or previous media file on your BlackBerry device. Data Transfer: This service allows you to connect your BlackBerry device to Bluetooth enabled devices that support the transfer of data such as media files.
Desktop Connectivity: This service allows you to connect your BlackBerry device to a Bluetooth enabled computer that is running BlackBerry® Desktop Software so that you can synchronize your organizer data.
Dial-Up Networking (DUN): This profile allows you to use your BlackBerry device as a modem when it is connected to a Bluetooth enabled computer that is running BlackBerry Desktop Software.
Handsfree (HFP): This profile allows you to connect your BlackBerry device to Bluetooth enabled headsets and car kits that support the Handsfree profile.

When you use this feature, data services (browser service, email messaging, PIN messaging, and MMS messaging) are not available on your device, and phone services are accessible only through the car kit. Before you can use this feature, you might need to enter a 16-digit alphanumeric code, generated by the car kit, on your BlackBerry device.

To use this service, your email account must use a BlackBerry® Enterprise Server.

  • Blackberry Curve 8330 vs Droid 2

So I'm heavily considering trading in my Blackberry Curve 8330 for a new Droid 2.  Was wondering if anyone else recently made the switch and can shar their experiences/opinions.
I like my Blackberry a lot, but it looks like there is a lot more stuff I can do with the Droid 2.  My biggest concern is that I have read a lot of comments saying that the service/reception is kind of Shotty on teh Droid 2 and people are having reception and dropped call issues.
Overall I would say I am pretty happy with Verizon service when it comes to coverage area and reception (at least with my Blackberry), so I am compelled to beleive that the issue is with the Droid 2 phone itself.
Would love to hear others opinions on this topic.
    Thanks!

I got a Droid 2 last week and had the original Droid before that. I taught my Mom how to use a Blackberry last year (8900). Based on that I can say that the Droid 2 is a highly functional phone, especially from a email and internet, especially internet standpoint.  The pages load in 5 - 15 seconds depending on web density. Its nearly laptop fast. I know the brower on Blackberry's is weak to say the least. The camera is excellent and you can take video with it too. From a communications standpoint it's outstanding. It's very easy to take a picture of something and with the click of 1 button, you can email it to anyone, post it on facebook or myspace or anywhere you like. I like that functionality a lot. The best way I can describe the phone overall is that it's like having a small powerful computer in your pocket, fast, functional and pocketable. The Android OS works best when you have a gmail account as your primary email account. It downloads messages quickly. Gmail also uses your list of contacts as contacts for the phone. You can transfer your contacts from your old phone into the Droid 2 and it will populate in your gmail contact list. My friend just took my old Droid and transferred his yahoo contacts into it and it populated in gmail and he set up his yahoo account in the phone too, so he can work from both.
Overall, I really highly recommend the Droid 2. It has a learning curve if you're used to a Blackberry, but worth it in the end. Its a great daily phone with a nice camera and camcorder and excellent social capabilities. I find myself using the pc at home less because the Droid is so capable. Get it!!

  • Google Maps no longer works for my Verizon Blackberry Curve 8330. What is wrong with Google???

For the past 11 months, Google Maps and Gmail have worked wonderfully with my Verizon Blackberry Curve 8330. Tonight, all of it stopped working. I tried to load Google Maps and failed. Kept getting the error message "Network Unavailable, blah blah blah". I tried restarting the phone, removing and reinserting the battery, until I finally uninstalled Google Maps. Now when I point my browser (OperaMini) to m.google.com to download and reinstall Google Maps, it says "Sorry the Google Maps application does not work on your 8330." This makes NO sense. Why would Google suddenly remove support for my phone? Is there a work around? Before uninstalled, I tried all sorts of tricks with editing permissions to no avail.
Also, Gmail is refusing to check mail, occasionally saying that a data connection is needed. That also makes NO sense as I have great phone reception.
My internet (OperaMini) and normal calling and texting capabilities are unaffected.
In conclusion: Is there ANY WAY to get these Google applications to reinstall and work on my phone? Or has Google screwed me over? Any help would be tremendously appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Hyun

  • Computer AND Device manger won't recognize Blackberry Curve 8330. .PLEASE Help

I have tried so many different things. . I am at the end of my rope.  My computer AND the Device Manager won't recognize my Blackberry Curve 8330 anymore.  It use to but then Sprint had me to do a hard reset and it hasn't done it since.  I am running Vista.  I have downloaded all different versions of the Desktop Manager, Blackberry Drivers etc.  I know that the USB works because it recognizes other devices.  Plus when I plug the blackberry in, the little plug shows up for about five seconds and disappears.  Plus when I unplug it and the blackberry screen is dark, it lights up so something is being recognized somewhere.  This is frustrating because I don't have my contacts backed up and I am trying not to do a hard reset to lose them again.  I have tried this on two different computers running Vista and the other XP.  I get the same result with both.  I don't know what happened to make both stop recognizing my blackberry.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

  • BlackBerry Curve 8330 won't boot, LED blinks and hourglass spins

I bought this pink BlackBerry Curve 8330 in December of 2008. It has worked perfectly since and I've never gotten it wet. It's been dropped 4-5 times, but never from more than 3 feet.
This afternoon, in the middle of writing a text, it suddenly powered off and the red LED light came on like it does when it is turning back on. It went off, the screen stayed black, then a few seconds later the screen turned on with an hourglass spinning for about five seconds, then the light turns off and everything goes black again for a few seconds, then the LED light comes on again and the cycle is repeated. It did this five times before I had to put it away as we drove home. When I got home, it had finally booted the whole way, but the battery was so low the radio was off, so I plugged it into the USB charger on my desktop computer.
When I came back later, the phone had stopped charging and was on a black screen with the LED light on, just like earlier. It went through this cycle a few times.
I pulled the battery and put it back in, same thing happened. Black screen, white screen with hourglass, black screen.
I plugged it back into the USB charger and as I type this, the little psycho has booted completely and it shows that it is charging.
    Device info
    Your carrier: Telus Mobility

Did a battery pull fix your issue? No
Apps installed and their version if possible.: Too many to type out right now, but the latest ones to be updated were SocialScope Lite v0.9.6.20, BlackBerry Messenger 5.0.2.12 (both updated automatically)
BT device model/version (you will have to look at the BT device): No bluetooth (hope that's what BT stands for)
How can I fix this so it doesn't keep happening? Thanks so much in advance.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Please try this sequence...note that, throughout the entire 4h15m process, your BB must remain connected to a known-good wall charger (not PC USB):
With the battery inside, connect your BB to the wall charger
Leave it alone for 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
    Remove the battery
    Wait 15 minutes
    Insert the battery
Wait another 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
This has been known to "kick start" some BBs.
It is also possible that your battery or BB has experienced a problem...to test, this sequence is needed:
Obtain a known good and already fully charged additional battery...use it in your BB and see what happens
Obtain access to a known good and identical BB...use your battery in it and see what happens
The results of this will indicate if it's your BB or your battery that has the problem.
Good luck and let us know!

  • Cannot Send E-mails form Blackberry Curve 8330

THis morning, I moved my Blackberry Curve 8330 from using the desktop redirector to now using the Enterprise Server version 5 on a Microsoft Exchange server.  I have done this with 8 other blackberries as well.  Every blackberry except mine is able to send e-mail messages from their blackberries after the move except mine.  Everytime I try to send a message, I get the red X.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to resolve this issue?

Can you open the message and scroll up and see if there is an error in the message header?
It sounds like you may have a send as permission error or are not permitted for BES acces on your data plan.
Are you the domain admin? do you have domain admin rights on your AD Account?
If so remove yourself from the domain admin group and create a vanialla account for doing the admin tasks.
Chesk the send as permissions are set and try again.
Also check with your carrier and see if you are provisioned for Blackberry Prosumer (BIS), BlackBerry Enterprose (BES) or BlackBerry Enterprise Plus (BES+).
If your only BIS you'll get the red x if your trying to send and activated against a BES.
