Blackberry Curve 8530 - Update Problems - Now no BBM - "Uncaught Exception"???????????

Had tons of issues after doing update earlier this week.  Have just about everything resolved (finally), but now my BBM won't even turn on.  I'm getting "Uncaught exception: java.lang.NullPointerException"  I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, battery pull, etc.  Keep getting the same message, but only for BBM.
Um, yeah....help.....please.  I'm  dying without BBM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Having the same issues I see posted here after the most recently Verizon forced wireless update except with my address book on a Storm 2.  I kept getting the icon to update, and I kept telling it not to update and not allowing the phone to schedule an update.  Then, one morning I wake up and my phone had updated!
I am a property manager for condominiums and HOA's.  My phone, it's contacts and calendar from Outlook are my lifeline.  All of my vendors, all of the Association's members, Board members, emergency contact info etc, are stored on my phone and laptop. After this forced wonderfull update, I cannot see any other contacts other than 1 787 times, I am receiving the uncaught exception java.lang.nullpointerexception" error option upon boot. If I do a search in the address book, it will find some of the contacts, but others are missing.  The only contact which is displayed in the contacts default view is the same one contact. I checked filters, I tried changing the sorting, etc.
Of course this new update forced itself upon my phone the same morning during which at 5:00AM a major pipe burst in one of my Associations and crippled me for the next two days!  So during the first emergency call I spent about 20 minutes allowing access to all my applications without being able to make a single call and receiving all kinds of errors.
I just now am having a chance to work on the issue, and I call Verizon Wireless, enter my phone number and keep receiving the error that I must enter a 10 digit number 10 times. I finally get through to someone using my cell phone (which you are supposed to use a landline when calling if you need help with your phone), and they patch me through a line that says regular business hours are X to Z,  11:00PM being not during those times. So then I try the emergency support option, and get patched through to the same recording!!!!  What exactly is emergency support?
So I am forced to support myself ....again.  I tried forcing an update to the address book and it simply won't sync. I double-checked the option to sync the address book and it was set to sync. I read to update the desktop manager through a clean install, so I did.  When I try to configure the address book serviceDesktop Manager 6 shows "address book not installed".  3 hours into this whole thing I believe I have found the answer which leads back to the original error I keep receiving...uncaught exception java.lang.nullpointerexception.
The only thing that worked for me was rolling the blackberry back, restoring the apps and data, and then forcing the information from Outlook back onto my Storm.
Verizon...don't force updates upon your customers!!!!!  Not all of us have the time to spend several hours to resolve these matters!

  • Blackberry curve 8530 - startup problem, screen flashes white

Whenever I try to start my phone this is essentially what happens.
I plug my phone into a charger, the red light lights up.
Proceeds into the hourglass, then the screen partly flashes white. and then back to the red light.
This then proceeds to happen forever.  Is there a fix? i've tried to update the software through desktop manager but there is always and error when i try this.  I use a mac and want to fix this asap.
    Thanks

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Please try this sequence...note that, throughout the entire 4h15m process, your BB must remain connected to a known-good wall charger (not PC USB):
With the battery inside, connect your BB to the wall charger
Leave it alone for 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
    Remove the battery
    Wait 15 minutes
    Insert the battery
Wait another 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
This has been known to "kick start" some BBs.
It is also possible that your battery or BB has experienced a problem...to test, this sequence is needed:
Obtain a known good and already fully charged additional battery...use it in your BB and see what happens
Obtain access to a known good and identical BB...use your battery in it and see what happens
The results of this will indicate if it's your BB or your battery that has the problem.
Unfortunately, most of the good "tricks" for recovering a BB work only on PC...not MAC.
Good luck and let us know!

  • BlackBerry Curve 8530 update OS 5.0 crashes

Every time I try and download the OS 5.0 software the installation stops and says 'an error has occurred whilst downloading software for your device. Please verify your internet connection or try again later, if the problem persists'. This always happens when the download reaches around 850/1070 modules. Currently I have software version: v.4.6.1.314. I have tried downloading the update from the Blackberry Desktop Software and also straight from Blackberry.com. Can anybody help?

Hi DDW17 and welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums!
Try plugging your BlackBerry® smartphone into your PC and going to www.blackberry.com/update to install the latest software available.

My blackberry curve 8530 shut off and now it doesn't want to completely turn on it stays loading.

    Hello !
    Try the following.
Just pull out the battery and reinsert it again for the POWER restart.
Once it reaches to the loading screen, just connect your device to the charger and keep it idol for 2-3hours.
At times BlackBerry Curve 8520 takes longer time then the usual for rebooting.
    Hope this resolves your Problem!

  • V5.0 software update for Blackberry Curve 8530

I updated my virgin mobile blackberry curve 8530 to the v5.0 software update , but the sms text DOES NOT look anything like the BBM chat. It hasn't changed at all from the last version . That's the whole reason why I updated it. Please help . Thank you .

That's one way to do it... you could also do it Over The Air (Options - Advanced - Wireless Update) or you could download the file and install the update via Desktop Manager. One word of caution though... personally I recommend the OS 5.0  .459 update not the .654... There are many posts on many forums detailing why people have issues with .654 (I'm one of them and I downgraded from .654 to .459). Of note, loss of the manual standy feature and changing the keyboard lock methods, and the trade-off of battery life over reception.
You can get the download file starting here and choosing what is applicable to you :

  • HELP!!!! Can't Open Picture attachments on my email on BlackBerry Curve 8530

I am having many problems with my new blackberry curve 8530.  I just purchased this last week and can't seen to be able to view my pictures that my brother sends me from across the country of my brand new nephew. I NEED HELP!!  I called Bell Mobility and talked to them for 40 mins and I got no where.
    Can someone help me!!!!

Where are you clicking to view the image, like I asked.
At the bottom of the email, ON the attached file?
    Try that.
You might need your BlackBerry Attachment Service Books re-pushed to the device, although your not being able to SEND an image sorta makes me think that is not the issue.
    Anyways, do this:
On your BlackBerry device, go to:
    1. Options > Advanced > Host Routing Table > Menu > Register.
    2. Resend your service books from your carrier BIS site:
    From your handheld device:   http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB15402
Go to the Personal Email Set Up icon and log in. Then under Help!, select Service Books, then select Send service Books.
Now, try retrieving a picture again.
    From your desktop PC:  http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB02830
North American Carriers - scroll down to select your carrier
WorldWide Carriers - Find your carrier on the list
    3. With the BlackBerry device powered ON, remove the battery a few seconds and then reinsert the battery to reboot. This reboot, even if you have already done this, is often needed to install the service books.

  • Blackberry Curve 8530 text issues, please help!

I have a problem opening some texts on my blackberry curve 8530, most of the texts i get are threaded and i can read them fine. When I get texts from certain people and i open it, its just black and i cannot see any text so I have to forward the text to my phone to see what the person has texted me.  Then i have to delete the text i forwarded to myself otherwise it wont work the next time i send another fwd text to myself to see what they said. It happens consistently with the same people in my contact list.  Most people are fine, but theres a few people i text that this happens with and it happens every time they text me. Ive looked through settings and I have no idea how to fix this or how to change it. Its getting really old to have to fwd the texts people send me back to my phone to read them every time they text  me. Can anybody please help me????? It would be much appreciated.  Please please help me with this or explain to me whats going on with it.  I have no other problems with my phone other than my screen freezing up every once in a while.
    Thanks so much!
    Diana

Diana, the first thing I would suggest before doing something more invasive like a device wipe and restore is a simple reboot:  With the BlackBerry device powered ON, remove the battery a few seconds and then reinsert the battery to reboot.
    See if the issue perists.

  • BLACKBERRY CURVE 8530,, help me ASAP.. P L E A S E

So I had this blackberry curve 8530 for about a week already. I like this device, but it does not let me send or receive picture messages. I need help ASAP...  P L E A S E

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Picture Messaging (technically, MultiMedia Messaging Service -- MMS) is a function of your contract with your mobile service provider (Sprint). You must subscribe, from them, to a plan level that is adequate to include MMS (and any other services you desire). As such, discussing this with them would be the best approach. See this for general guidance:
    http://www.blackberryfaq.com/index.php/What_do_I_need_a_Data_Plan_for%3F
Again, that is only general -- with hundreds of carriers in the world each with dozens of different data plans, only they can answer specifically about what should and what should not work.
If they tell you that you are subscribed to an adequate data plan, then don't let them fob you off. After all, you pay them for 100% of your services and 100% of your formal support...you should insist that they deliver both.
    Good luck!

  • How do you add footers in the BlackBerry Curve 8530?

I'm actually asking on behalf of my employer.  I wanted to know how to add/create footers using the BlackBerry Curve 8530 model series.
Thank you in advance for your help!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I don't know what footers are.
I know what an email signature line is.
For example, each email you write would have automatically added to the end:
    "Thanks,
    Bob Smith
    Smith Corporation
    111-222-3333 phone"
    That?

  • Blackberry Curve 8530 Not Charging

I have had the blackberry curve for a while now. I forgot to charge it and the battery got completely drained. I plugged it in the wall charger. The Red LED came on for about ten seconds, and then a picture of a battery charging appeared. 1 minute later, an image of a battery with a red line through it appeared. I left the phone to charge, thinking it would fix it. Even an overnight charge could not fix the problem. I took out the battery for 30 seconds, put it back in, and charged again, and the problem persisted. I also tried my USB charger and was still greeted with the same problem. Any ideas as to what's wrong?

  • Blackberry curve 8530 wont accept password

I have had a blackberry curve 8530 since march and it is now july! Everything has worked until now when i tried to install the desktop manager and it wouldnt accept my password. I tried 10 times and now it says "last attempt" and i don't want my phone to reset everything! Pleas help me!!!! I don't know what to do!!! (P.s i haven't backed up my phone!)

    Hi 85curve30,
If you have any numbers in your device password and don't hold in the Alt key when entering them on the device, try entering the corresponding letters on those keys on the PC when it asks for the password for your connection to the Desktop Software.

A soft reset may resolve the issues outlined on your post. To perform a soft reset on your phone please follow the instructions below:
Remove battery with phone ON. Replace battery after 10 seconds. Power phone ON. Allow phone to complete the applications registration.
Please keep in mind that Smartphones are like computers and from time to time they will stop responding due to multiple factors including the amount of applications running at the same time, the amount of media saved and the amount of memory available, and just like our computers need to be rebooted, our phones need to be rebooted from time to time.

  • Certified Pre-Owned Blackberry Curve 8530?

I'm looking at getting a blackberry curve 8530 and i was wondering, how good are the certified pre-owned ones? In general, are certified pre-owned phones just as good as brand new ones? are certified pre-owned blackberries prone to more defects since they have been used by someone else? i would like to hear anyones personal experience with a certified pre-owned blackberry, thank you.

    Hi,
Welcome to the Verizon forums.  The Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) phones are checked and double checked to be in superb working order.  CPO devices are, for lack of better description, just like new phones.  It will come with the same warranty as a new phone from Verizon.  Myself, I own a CPO Blackberry Bold 9650.  I could not tell it was used when I looked at mine after I received it from Verizon.  If there had been a problem with the phone, it was fixed by RIM and I could not tell what had been wrong with it.  Usually, CPO devices are phones that may have been on display or ones that someone bought but later returned shortly after the purchase.  (See Verizon Wireless' Return Policy and Worry Free Guarantee).   I hope this helps answer some of the questions you may have.  Good luck with your purchase and if this is your first Blackberry, you will love it.
