Blackberry Desktop - memos? tasks? calendar?

Just got the Storm2, previously used a Palm.  I loved the Palm Desktop Software, and thought that the Blackberry Desktop software would be the same.  I really need to sync my memos, tasks, and calendar but don't see them on this software.  I do not use, nor do I have Outlook.  So disappointed!  Can anyone suggest how I can do this?  I see people talking about sync-ing, but they don't say to what.  I"m not sure if everyone is assuming Outlook is used or what.  Help!  I love the phone, but really need these features.

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
A few things to discuss...so bear with me...
1) Contrary to how others do things, RIM does not provide a desktop PIM. Others force you to use their PIM and only their PIM. RIM provides a conduit software that functions as a bridge between your chosen PIM and the BB. See this KB for compatible PIM's:
KB12268 Applications supported by BlackBerry Desktop Manager for synchronization
2) RIM provides a Device Switch Wizard to migrate from another SmartPhone to a BB...but only for compatible devices. See this KB:
KB05459 How to use the Switch Device Wizard to switch from another smartphone to a BlackBerry smartphone
3) If your old device is not compatible with the wizard, then RIM further provides the ability to import from ASCII and CSV files. See this KB:
KB04312 Create and synchronize with an ASCII export file
KB11194 How to import contacts from an CSV file to the BlackBerry device
Sorry, but RIM provides no assistance on how to get your data out of your old device and into the ASCII or CSV format...that's a function of your old device.
So, your choice is, IMO, to keep using a desktop PIM to manage your data (and you should, IMO)...then choose a compatible PIM (from above). Then, get your data out of your old device/PIM and into the compatible desktop PIM. Then, configure the BB to sync with the PIM:
KB17022 How to configure organizer applications for synchronization using BlackBerry Desktop Manager
Good luck and let us know!

  • After 60 days, Blackberry Desktop Sync deletes all appointments in Lotus Notes desktop. Help!

This is a problem that I just discovered.  I understand why appointments older than 60 days are deleted from the database on my Curve 6330.  However, I just discovered that whenever I sync with my Lotus Notes calendar, the Blackberry Desktop software is also deleting calendar appointments on on my Lotus Notes desktop calendar that are more than 60 days old.  My Lotus notes desktop calendar is my sole record of old appointments.  How can I set up Blackberry Desktop to sync calendar entries (including task entries and memo entries) without also deleting calendar (and task entries for that matter) entries that are more than 60 days old from my Lotus Notes desktop.   Many thanks!

I have provided some information below that may help.
Step 1 – If you have a previous backup saved on the Curve, I would recommend trying to restore that backup.
Step 2 – Ensure the songs are placed on the SD card.
Step 3 – Ensure the songs are not controlled by DRM. Files controlled by DRM cannot be copied to the BlackBerry smartphone, and are not recognized on Blackberry smartphones.

  • Apparently Sync Manager is turned off for syncing my contacts and calendar to using Blackberry Desktop Software - how can I switch it ON?

I upgraded to Mac OS 10.9 a few months ago.
Up till then I was happily able to sync mac Contacts and Calendar to my Blackberry Curve 9320 via Blackberry's Desktop Manager (for Mac).
Since upgrading the software tells me to that Mac Sync Manager is turned off.  I know it isn't because everything else is syncing.
When I hunt through your support I find that there are solutions for this problem for other Mac OS versions but not for Maverick, so please tell me how I can once again use my business phone happily as I did before upgrading!
    Many thanks

BlackBerry Desktop Software utilizes Apple's SyncServices technology in order to synchronize Contact, Calendar, Notes, and Tasks information to and from the Mac computer.
BlackBerry Desktop Software synchronizes information with the SyncServices database, which is synchronized with the desktop applications on the Mac computer (for example: Apple Address Book, iCal, Apple Mail, Microsoft Outlook for Mac). BlackBerry Desktop Software does not synchronize directly to or from the desktop applications on the Mac computer.
Mac OS X Mavericks v10.9 and later does not use SyncServices, therefore, it is not possible to synchronize Contact or Calendar information using the BlackBerry Desktop Software on these versions of OS X.
For more information on SyncServices and OS X Mavericks, see the following Apple Support article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5847
Note: BlackBerry Desktop software 2.4 is still supported for use with Mac OS X v10.6, 10.7, and 10.8.

  • Blackberry Desktop Manager for Mac does not recognize any Calendars for syncing

ive installed the blackberry desktop manager for my Macbook and hooked my phone up through the USB port when I started the program and when I go to the calendar section it says "There are no calendars available on this computer for syncing.  Please launch a new iCal and create a new calendar".  How do I fix this?  I have a lot of information on my iCal that I want transferred over to my phone, but it won't recognize the calendar in the program.  Help

I'll try to help...first you did not provide any pertinent information for troubleshooting:  Mac OS, device, device OS...
Now before you do anything go to iCal>File>Export and create an iCal archive (JIC).  The rest is dependent on the OS (as each store iCal data differently)...It is possible that your calendar file is not where it should be.  Try cleaning system and user cache. Restarting your mac and repair permissions.
On the device side, what do you have as the default CICAL?  You could try forget device in the DM or trash the user>username>application support>BlackBerryDesktop folder and start over.
Now do you have more than one calendar?  In the DM how are you setting the sync?  Two Way, All Calendars...to what calendar are you adding on the device?  Under Advanced Settings are you selecting All events and are you Replacing all calendar events on the Blackberry device?  Remember that even if you have multiple calendars in iCal they will sync as one in the BlackBerry.

  • Calendar as part of Blackberry Desktop Manager Software

    Hi All,
It would be a good idea to have the BB Calendar as part of Blackberry Desktop Manager Software, so appointments could be entered on the PC and then sync with a BB or the other way about.
I don't have an enterprise server, just plain old MS Outlook on my PC.
    Regards,
    Leslie.

    Hello,
As what I assume to be a business strategy, RIM specifically does not provide a PIM/Organizer with their software. Rather, they provide conduits to various PIMs so that the user has a choice as to which PIM they prefer. See this matrix for which PIMs are supported by different versions of the RIM DTM software:
    http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=KB12268&sliceId=1&docTy...
BES is not required in order to sync a calendar to a BB. You can indeed sync, with the tools available today, bi-directionally calendar, contacts, email, etc. etc. etc.

  • Blackberry Desktop will not Syn to new Mac Mobil Me Calendars

Just talked to Apple and they said they are rolling out the new CALDEV calendars which will reside on Mobil Me's Cloud server and not within Ical on your Mac. This results in an error message on the Blackberry Desktop Software that the calendar sync failed. So if you update to the new Apple calendar, my understanding from Apple is that you will no longer be able to syn your blackberry to Mac calendars. They said on May 5th, they will migrate all calendars to a new server which will support their cloud calendars. So it will be up to Blackberry to update the BB Mac Desktop software to support this change. Has anyone else encountered this problem after upgrading to the new Mobil Me calendar? Thanks John

See my post on another thread for what appears so far to be an easy solution to calendars not syncing with latest iCal update.
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-for-Mac/Why-does-the-Desktop-software-tell-me-ther...
    Simples? Not quite, but understandable.
Apple didn't explain the ramifications quite clearly enough in their bid to corral everyone into Mac/iPhone/sync unanimity, and BB haven't exactly been quick to clarify the anomaly.
    Happy days

  • Tasks, Calendar, Messages, Contacts, and Memo Pad don't work after pairing (Error 404)

    Hi all,
When I pair my Torch to the PlayBook it all goes as expected. I can browse the files on my phone and also open the internet browser; however, when I try to open Tasks, Calendar, Messages, Contacts, and Memo Pad I get:
Error 404 - We can't open the webpage that you requested because it could not be found
Bridge Browser and Bridge Files still work fine though.
    What to do?
    Solved!

Hi Guys!!! Have you already updated your software version to the 1.0.3..1868?
The best thing would be to delete and reinstall the bridge app from your smartphones and download it again,
Maybe the bridge app was corrupted on the first download. So, check if you have the latest software on the playbook and also the latest app version of the bridge on the smartphone.
Even so, it's better if you delete the app from your smartphone and downloaded again. One more tip would be to delete the bluetooth profiles of the smartphone on the playbook using the little pencil icon. Good luck guys! .
Please give kudos if this solution worked!!!

  • Calendar Sync - Blackberry Desktop Software and Outlook

In synching Storm with Outlook using Blackberry Desktop software, I don't want to lose past records in Outlook on my laptop. Does anyone know the best way to accomplish that and still do a two-way synch? It appears that during the two-way synch although I specify 900 days before that the software wants to delete past Outlook records. A flow chart of the synch software logic would be helpful if that's out there anywhere.

  • Blackberry Desktop Manager for Macs

Have upgraded Microsoft Office on Mac from Entourage to Outlook: when will Blackberry software allow calendar to be synchronised with Outlook and not just Entourage?

    Hey gettingaround,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
You can synchronize the calendar in ICAL and Entourage.  However there is no ETA when calendar/tasks/memos will be available for synchronization for BlackBerry Desktop Software.

  • Blackberry Desktop functionality

    Hello,
I am currently a Palm Treo 650 user, and I'm considering migrating to a Blackberry Bold 9900. I understand that Blackberry has Blackberry Desktop for PC software, but I am not certain that it does what I need.
    Questions:
My (possibly incorrect) understanding is that Blackberry Desktop does not offer functionality for contacts, calendar, tasks, or memos within the application. Instead, it simply allows a Blackberry device to synchronize with supported software that has this functionality, such as MS Outlook. Am I correct?
Does Blackberry Desktop backup all of the Blackberry's settings, so it my phone is lost, I can simply restore from backup and essentially be where I left off?
    Thanks in advance.
    -Steve

You are correct (though I might disagree with "simply"...but no matter!). Contrary to others, RIM elected to not force users to use only their PIM interface. Instead, they provide a conduit to synchronize with several desktop PIMs. See this for reference:
KB12268 Applications supported by BlackBerry Desktop Software for Windows for synchronization

Essentially yes. See these for reference:
KB23680 How to back up and restore BlackBerry smartphone data using BlackBerry Desktop Software 6.0
KB03974 List of all databases on the BlackBerry smartphone
If you subscribe to a proper data plan, you also receive free access to the BB Protect OTA application, which does much the same thing, but also gives you some added security features in the event of a lost BB. After all, the BB itself is a mere commodity...the data on it, now that could be priceless (and worthy of good security measures)!
Hope that all helps! Good luck!

  • Blackberry Desktop Software will not Sync with Outlook

    Hello,
I recently installed Blackberry Desktop Manager 7.1 for Windows on a PC and it will not allow me to sync with outlook calendar, memos and contacts.  It will however sync windows Contacts, if I try to select the option to sync with calendar or memos it gives me an error that now compatible software can be found and to visit blackberry.com/desktop/docs.  I am running Outlook 2010 32bit in Windows 7 with the latest Blackberry desktop software.  I am not to familiar with Blackberry so any help would be greatly appreciated!

Well I believe I have figured out the answer to my own question, I ended up having to do a repair installation for Office 2010 and I was able to sync from outlook to the Blackberry.

    Hi gbslade,
Considering your issue only seems to be with contacts, I would suspect there may be a corrupt/invalid contact entry in your Yahoo account.  My suggestion is to first setup a one-way synchronization from the BlackBerry to Yahoo, then do the opposite.  This should indicate where the issue is originating.
As well, check your Yahoo address book for any blank or incomplete contacts.  Contacts that are missing a first name, last name and company name cannot be synchronized to the BlackBerry and could potentially cause hang-ups or a failed synchronization.  A contact must have at least one of those three fields filled out.
    Thanks!

  • Windows .(tasks, calendar etc) not an option to sync to

I have just managed to transfer my hotmail account to Live, as my Vista laptop has windows mail and windows calendar.  My laptop is synchonised with my live mail, so my calendar, tasks, contacts and mail are all the same, but on the blackberry desktop sync only the contacts are in the sync box - caledar and tasks only have the option of Ascari and yahoo.  Why when it worked for the contacts sync is it not showing up for the calendar and tasks, which surely should be idential.  I have tried specifying the location but can't see how to add it.  Help!  I am getting windows live alerts to the blackberry for appointments, and my email is sync'd (through windows live) and deletes on mailbox and blackberry so why can't I sync the calendar.

  • Bold 9700 won't let me sync with Windows 7 computer using BlackBerry Desktop Software version 6

I just got a new computer with Windows 7.  I installed version 6 of BlackBerry Desktop Software.  It installed just fine.  When I connect my Bold 9700 to it the software recognizes the phone and has the list of model, PIN, and phone number.  It allows me to backup the device - but not sync it.
I went to configure my sync settings.  It goes to the screen for me to set the sync options for calendar, memo pad, etc.  I selected calendar.  It asks me which application I'm using and I select Microsoft Outlook (I'm using Outlook 2010).  I choose 2 way sync.  So, up to this point it's working correctly.  But, then when I hit "next" on this screen it gives me an error message - the operation terminated unexpectedly.  I have no clue what's going on.

I have the same problem and have tried one way sync's, deleting and re-entering the calendar entries made around the time the problem started. If it is a corrupted entry, I can't find it.
