Blackberry desktop software has encountered a problem and needs to close.
I get this message lately when I try to sync my Torch 9800. It seems to be hanging up when it gets to the media sync, although I am not certain of this. Anyway, would love some help on this.

Hey JmcL,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
How many songs are you currently synchronizing? As well what version of BlackBerry Desktop Manager are you using?
Are you synchronizing Contacts, Calendar or Memos as well?
I look forward to your reply.

I have installed Desktop Manager and had success synching my new 8330 with Outlook 2007 (on XP). Next time, though, it crashed. I uninstalled/reinstalled, it seemed to work once, now always crashes. I do have recurring appointments with reminders and have heard this might be the problem; is there a workaround? I also disabled the option to synch up past appointments w/no luck. Thx.
Hi. I did get my problem resolved after an hour or so on the phone w/the Blackberry folks, but I'm not positive what the problem is/was. I once again uninstalled the desktop manager, but also deleted the Intellisync folder completely. Then I reinstalled it and it worked...and has continued to work just fine for the past four days. I don't really know what "fixed" it, but just thought I'd say the issue has been resolved. Thanks.

I have an R61 with XP, SP3 installed. The underlying functionality of Access Connections appears to be working properly (I have access to both Ethernet and wireless using profiles previously established), but when I attempt to launch Access Connections (from system tray icon, Programs, etc.) I get the error message, "Access Connections has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience," and the option to send or not send an error report to Microsoft. This makes it impossible to create or edit location profiles. I first encountered this error several months ago with AC version 5.33 (might have also seen it under 5.3). Subsequently I have upgraded to version 5.50 and have the same problem. Today I uninstalled AC, restared, reinstalled ver 5.5 (from a fresh download), and restarted. I still encountering the problem.
Additional information: Norton Internet Security (2010) is installed. Microsoft and ThinkVantage patches are up to date.
Please recommend "next steps" in troubleshooting or a way to resolve this issue.
ThanksHmmm... could be a corrupt profile.
Try this.
1. Uninstall Access Connections (but don't delete the profiles)
2. After the reboot, open REGEDIT.
3. In the left pane, expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, then SOFTWARE, then Lenovo
4. Still in the left pane, right click on Access Connection and choose export
5. Assign an appropriate filename and click Save (I suggest somewhere on the Desktop).
6. Right click on Access Connections again and choose delete.
7. Open Windows Explorer and go to C:\Program Files\Thinkpad\ConnectUtilities directory.
8. Delete any files in this directory.
9. Reinstall Access Connections v5.50
10. Try and create a profile.
If you still get an error trying to create a profile, then something else is broken. Be sure you have .NET 3.5 SP1 (it may be under optional downloads in Windows Update).
If it works fine, then you have a bad profile. Unfortunately, there isn;t an easy way to figure out which one other than try and error of delete profiles and trying one at a time.
To restore your profiles.
1. Unistall Access Connections. Reboot.
2. Double click the saved .reg file on your Desktop and answer Yes to merge it into the registry.
3. Install Access Connections. Reboot. -
I get "Measurement & Automation Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close." message when trying to open MAX. Has anyone seen this before? Any suggestions?
Thanks,
ScottHaven't seen it, but I'd recommend uninstalling it and reinstalling it. It could just be a corrupt installation.

I encountered the problem while using BlackBerry Desktop Software Version 6.1.0.35 with my Torch 9800. After I clicked the "Applications" button on the Desktop Software window, I got the pop-up window bearing the subject message.
Additional info from the pop-up windows:

AppVer: 6.0.1.33
ModName: loader.exe
ModVer: 6.0.1.33

The "Organizer" function seems to work ok. I have tried no other Desktop Software features (e.g., Media Sync).I have the identical problem - it started when I installed latest version of BB Desktop software. Also re-installed both phone and desktop - no change. I have no access to applications on the desktop.

Desk top software 6.1.18 - encountered problem and needs to close
I've been successfully running Desk Top Software on my PC with Windows XP since August, 2010 (don't know the version, but it was current then). I recently up-dated following a prompt that a new version was available and installed 6.1.18. Now when I try to open it I get a Windows " Blackberry Desktop Software has encountered and problem and needs to close" error message. I have re-started the computer, removed and re-installed the software, but no solution. Help!!
Ok, good news (and thanks for your help). I am up and running with a working sync for the first time since (mistakenly) upgrading to the latest version of 6 [I had been using an earlier version of 6 before the upgrade]. I have re-installed 5.0.1 and am using drivers v6.
After the reinstall the desktop manager at first could not recognize my blackberry. I had to go to device manager and rather than simply doing an automatic driver refresh, I had to choose the option to pick the driver from a list. Once I did that my blackberry was recognized by the desktop manager, I was able to configure the sync options and it worked like a charm.
I will not be upgrading until this version of sync literally stops working due to incompatibility with some future software versions!
Short recap of what I think will work:
1. Uninstall DM 6.x. A normal uninstall should work (although admittedly I did at least two clean uninstalls and reinstallation of DM 6.x before my final uninstall, so if this process doesn't work the first
time for you then consider a clean uninstall).
2. Install Desktop Manager 5.0.1.
3. Install the drivers (I used the current versions, 6.x).
4. If DM doesn't recognize your device, then go to device manager, under hardware find your blackberry, update its driver and if the automatic update doesn't work then choose the option to pick your driver from the list.
You should then be up and running with only the normal configuration issues remaining.
Good luck!

Blackberry Desktop Software has stopped working
Blackberry Torch 9850 on the Verizon Wireless Network
Blackberry OS: 7.1 Bundle 1737 (v 7.1.0.580, Platform 5.1.0.429)
Windows 7 Home Premium, SP11 with an full admin account
HP Desktop computer
For some unknown reason whenever I attempt to execute Blackberry Desktop Software version 7.1 the application returns the following error: "Blackberry Desktop Software has stopped working: A problem caused the program and notify you if a solution is available." The last successful use of DM was on Sunday, October 7, 2012 when I synched my phone and did a backup of the device.
I have uninstalled and re-installed the application; uninstalled Microsoft .Net Framework version 3.5 and 4.0 then re-installed .Net Framework; then re-installed DM under a new admin account and still getting the same problem. I even went as far as uninstalling Office and re-installing office and still getting the same problem. Whenever I uninstalled DM I did a manual uninstall where I removed all registry keys associated with Research in Motion including folders and still getting the same problem. I Googled the error and the articles worth reading I have already the things they mentioned.
NOTE: I have done a lot more troubleshooting that is listed. But since I did so much to get this to work it will take me an entire novel to list all the things I have done to get this app to work again.
Called VZW and they got me in contact with RIM. RIM did pretty much the same things I did and after spending 7 hours on the phone with them they concluded I need to reformat my drive. When the tech made that suggested I wanted to reach thru the phone and knock her teach out of her mouth. Suffice to say I am not able to get DM to work on my machine and there appears to be no apparent reason why the software will stop working. Not have DM work means I cannot synch my phone. I have one personal computer and I am not going to install DM on my laptop because it will do me no good since I need to synch it with Outlook which is on my personal desktop. I cannot install my personal copy of office on my work laptop because it will probably cause other issues.
Anyone have any suggestions how I can get this application working on my desktop. It was working before and all of a sudden it stopped workinghttp://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB02206

Blackberry Desktop Software has encountered a problem and needs to close
When I try to open Blackberry Desktop the message I get is that Blackberry Desktop Software has encountered a problem and needs to close. I have a Blackberry Bold 9700 and as a result I cannot sync. Does this mean I need to uninstall and reinstall? If I reinstall will I lose the update that I have on my phone that has changed the interface? Will I have to reinstall that as well?
Thanks for any help or advice you can give me.I suggest this thread:

It starts with a process for cleanly starting over, and there is some discussion, and there is also a post (15) with links to older Desktop Software versions, if those are needed. Note that this is not, by any means, guaranteed to work...but it has worked for many to resolve issues they are having.
Also, for XP users, please be sure you are on SP3...that is the current minimum level required with the latest Desktop Software.
Good luck!

I have a Tour 9630 and just installed v6.0 and receiving an error window "Blackberry Desktop Software has stopped working. A problem as caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." I have not received any message from Windows after 2 days. Has anyone experienced this problem? If so, I would appreciate any guidance. I have Windows 7, if that matters. Thank you. in advance.
Hi somewhatstock
How far did you get with them? Did they have any ideas what might be causing the problem? Trying to work on it myself, so trying to eliminate what others might have tried. Curious why it works on my Desktop however. Losing tethering really causes problems as I rely on tethering with my laptop quite a lot.
Any information most welcome,

BB Desktop Software has encountered a problem and needs to close
I installed BB Desktop V 6.1 (610_b034_multilanguage) on my laptop that runs Windows XP. Installation completes. When I attempt to open the program, it gives me "BB Desktop software has encountered a problem and needs to close." I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling. I've rebooted. I've closed all other programs before install and before running the program.
Thoughts on how to fix?
Thanks,
RandyI'm having the same problem after upgrade from 5.1 to 6.0. AMy Blackberry Bold 9700, just bought this morning. Appreciate any assistance. Thanks
-
OS: Windows 7 32bit
BB Desktop Manager version: 6.1.0.35
I bought a new notebook a few days ago and tried to install the above software (latest version) from Blackberry's website. The whole thing installed fine but when I tried to launch it after installation, I get the message:
"BlackBerry Desktop Software has stopped working"
I tried the clean uninstall with removal of folders and registry entries, rebooting it, running regsvr32 atl.dll and then reinstalling it and still I have the same problem.
I had experienced a similar issue with my previous computer which I fixed by changing the permission and ownership of two registry keys "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Research In Motion" and "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Research In Motion". But this time round, I found that:
1) There is no "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Research In Motion"
2) I can't find a "Desktop.log" in "C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Desktop" but I did find it in "C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Desktop\Logs"
And this what it says:

I have scanned through it and I can't find anything that says "fatal".
Any suggestions? I am at my wits end after combing through this forum and other BB forums for the past few long days and nights.
HELP!Well folks. I've had enough.
The 9780 is a great phone, it's easy to use, practical and dependable. However, the Desktop Manager software has been giving me too many sleepless nights. On two occassions I must add: once at the end of last year when I bought it and only managed to solve it by myself after 4 weeks of trawling through online forums, blogs and other BB help sites and the recent one was last week when I tried to install it on my new Windows 7 notebook.
I know this is not entirely the fault of RIM, Microsoft also has a part to play. But considering the state of technology these days, it shouldn't have to be so difficult. I want a phone and software that makes my life easier and not have to be a slave to it by trying days and nights to solve its problems.
Hence, I have officially decom my phone and gotten an iPhone 4 instead. The switch ain't that difficult for me as I have always been platform neutral. As long it fits my needs, does it job well and doesn't give me too much headache, I'm cool with it.

Blackberry Desktop Software Error "Blackberry Desktop Software Has Stopped Working"
Hi everyone,
I’ve had a Blackberry Playbook (PB) for almost a year now. Recently I decided I was going to back my data up, but the Blackberry desktop software I was using was 5.0... Something. So I went to http://uk.blackberry.com/software/desktop.html to update the software. I uninstalled the old one and installed the new one.
When I tried to open the newly installed software I got this error "Blackberry Desktop Software Has Stopped Working." So I did my research and found that this was happening to other people.
These are the methods I used to try to fix the problem.
- Clean Uninstall
- Removing registry
- Deleting research in motion (appdata)
- Restarting my computer about 5 times
I went into event properties this is what i got.
