Blackberry Email Being Phased out - why santyclaus

Hi All,
Perhaps someone from Blackberry could let us know why they would phase out the blackberry email server and accounts? This was the only account I could rely on working. Is there some other solution they offer?
PS. For a Blackberry "Classic" I just bought, its not very classic to find this out...
Thank you from a loyal but puzzled business user.

There are plenty of free email accounts out there. There is no real reason to have them anymore. I recommend Outlook.com, which supports Exchange Active Sync (EAS) for Blackberry 10 devices. GMail dropped their EAS for free users a couple years ago so GMail users are left only with IMAP sync which is not that great.

• The new Macbooks and MacBook Pros - Firewire being phased out?

Hi,
Many thanks in advance for your attention.
With the latest release of MacBooks and MacBook Pros, does it seem to anyone else that Firewire is being phased out? Even the new iPod Touch's cannot be charged via a Firewire cable.
(The first iPod Touch has a Firewire/ USB compatible dock).
I am somewhat baffled as a year ago Firewire was all the rage for Video Editing. It had a better reputation for sustained transfer of data and not dropping frames.
(Critical with video editing).
Also - the several miniDV cameras I've owned, including my current model, all transfer their data into a computer via a Firewire port.
I have three External Drives at the moment (mostly for Video Editing) and all work with either Firewire 400 or 800 (or both). None have a USB 2.0 port.
The new MacBooks don't even have a Firewire port.
The new 15" MacBook Pro has only a port for Firewire 800.
Anyone else have any thoughts on this?
Should I begin shifting my external drives to USB 2.0 connectivity?
Even though USB 2.0's reputation for transferring Video is not very good?

When importing video from FireWire-based camcorders, the video is sent in real time to the computer, which is why FireWire is necessary. That's because FireWire-based devices use tape to record video (DV or HDV), which cannot be accessed in the same way as memory cards or hard drives (the camcorder can't rewind during capture).
With USB-based camcorders, this is no longer an issue, as the video is stored and transferred as a file, rather than a real-time stream.

FireWire-based camcorders won't work with the new MacBooks (you won't be able to import your video without using another computer).
The new 15" MacBook Pro has only a port for Firewire 800.
And an ExpressCard slot, which can be used to add additional FireWire or eSATA ports if necessary.

• Is OS 10.3.9 (and PowerPC Macs) being phased out?

Does anyone know if OS 10.3.9 is being phased out by most publishers (it seems like the majority of applications for OS X will only run on 10.4.x!)? also, anyone know if OS 10.5 will run fast enough (and/or compatible) with PowerPC Macs? my assumption is that OS 10.5 will end the lives of all PowerPC Macs, but I would be surprised if it even ran on any older Mac (because 10.4 doesn't seem to run too well as it stands right now!) thanks for your insight and help!
(PS) anyone know if it is even worth my time to repair my iBook G4, or just get a new Mac Mini? my warranty expired on 5/4/07, and I just wonder if this laptop is even worth getting repaired anymore! Thanks

Well, the iBook is a "consumer" laptop, meaning it wasn't the fastest Mac when it was new. The iLife apps, and many new apps are written to take advantage of faster Macs. My 1.6 GHz G5 tower is much faster than any G4 I've ever used, and the new Intel Macs seem even snappier. You'd definitely notice a speed boost if you got a new MacBook, and you could expec t 10.5 to run just fine. As the other post mentioned, we shouldn't speculate about 10.5 on G4's (I would expect a slowdown). As for replacing your iBook, if you're unhappy with the performance and can afford a new Mac, it's worth considering. 10.4 does seem a bit snappier to me, provided you have enough memory. 768 is quite a bit, but many folks suggest 1GB.

• Is the Extension Manager really being phased out soon?

I heard from a prominent extension developer that the Adobe Extension Manager is being phased out in favor of the cloud, which I'm assuming means the new add-ons thing. Is this true, and if so, when is this planned for?

It has not been finalized.

• Is the W Series being phased out???

I was hoping to replace my aging T61p with a 17” W Series model, but it appears that the W “series” is now down to one model: the W520. Does this suggest that the ThinkPad mobile workstation line is being phased out?
I need a 17” laptop with at least two HDD bays to accommodate 750-1K GB SSD storage (e.g, two 512GB Crucial m4 2.5-inch SATA 6GB/s; http://www.crucial.com/store/partspecs.aspx?IMODULE=CT512M4SSD2).
Should I wait to see if Lenovo releases a W7xxx machine? If not, any thoughts about the new 17” Dell Precision™ M6600 as an alternative to the ThinkPad W Series? (http://www.dell.com/us/en/enterprise/notebooks/precision-m6600/pd.aspx?refid=precision-m6600&s=biz&c...)
Solved!
Go to Solution.

Thanks for the quick reply. I purchased a ThinkPad and a
Dell Precision laptop about the same time. I definitely prefer the build
quality and features of the ThinkPad over the Dell mobile workstation line.
However, for my pro-audio applications (used in live productions), I need well
over 500 GB ultra-fast storage and the fastest mobile processor I can get for
my sample-based instruments; plus as many USB ports as I can get.
Unfortunately, the largest 6Gb/s, 2.5 “ SSD I have found is 512 GB; meaning I
need a machine with at least two HDD slots. So, unless a fast, 1 TB SSD becomes
available, or Lenovo releases a W series model with two HDD slots, I will
likely go with the Dell (faster memory options, more USB ports, etc. compared
with the HP you mentioned).
Thanks again!

• Is Flash being phased out for Internet Applications?

I've been working on a conversion of a medium scale app from AS2 to AS3 for the past little while, and I can't help noticing the lack of updates for UI Components for Flash (notably DateChooser and Accordion ). Is this because of:
1. There is a simple way to get those components from Flex builder and all components will be released to Flex first, and need to be rebuilt into flash?
2. Flash is being phased out for web UI Dev and being directed back toward Animation only, leaving Flash UI developers to use Flex?
I fully understand that there is a component community, but I've had mixed luck with them and these two components seem like they should be core components. It seems somewhat telling to me that AS 3 has been out for a really long time now, and the Flash CS5 I bought still doesn't have a calendar component.
Either I'm missing something, or Adobe is telling me that the way I've been using flash is no longer supported and I should look elsewhere for creating Apps.
I really hope I'm missing something obvious but it seems like the idea died with CS3. Can someone clue me in on what's going on?
Thanks in advance!

See if this brings you any joy: http://seeing-is-believing.blogspot.com/2007/11/flex-components-in-flash-example-with.html
Although it does require some work but it is still better than recreating the component which you wanna avoid

• Datasocket being phased out?

Hello all,
I am having a problem with the datasocket server crashing and in looking for a solution through the forums came upon this link
http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=170&message.id=314367&query.id=427431#M314367
in which TWGomez states in message 5 of the thread that "DataSockets are being phased out" is there some place that this
phasing out is documented? Someplace official from NI I mean?
thanks in advance,
C

I would like to start out by saying that we have no plan current plan to drop support for DataSocket.
I suspect that some of the confusion here is caused because the term "DataSocket" has multiple meanings. DataSocket can refer to the DSTP data-exchange protocol, and it can also refer to the API available both on the LabVIEW palette and as an ActiveX control which supports a number of data exchange mechanisms including DSTP and the NI-PSP protocol used by the shared variable. NI does encourage customers to use the shared variable protocol rather than the DSTP protocol for their apps, although we continue to provide support for DSTP. I suspect that this is where the confusion about DataSocket being phased out comes from. The DataSocket API is still actively supported as a compliment to the Shared Variable nodes, as well as a client for other data transmission mechanisms such as OPC.
I am also curious about the above comment. When you say that DataSocket allows access to third party devices, are you referring to the ability of the DataSocket API to act as an OPC client or something else?

• Is QuickTime Pro being phased out and replaced by new quicktime player ?

Where are scrub bar edit points and what is happening to Pro version since the new Quicktim Player app?

Where are scrub bar edit points and what is happening to Pro version since the new Quicktim Player app?
I haven't seen all that many changes to QT 7 Pro since the introduction of Lion and the default turning off of legacy codecs. Since you use the term "scrub bar," I assume you are referring to the play progress bar and playhead control which can be used for scrubbing content, as well as, the setting of "in" and "out" editing points. As you can see by the image below, the bar and editing pointers are still available and functioning under Mavericks as they have been since the context adaptive change several years/systems ago.
In addition, for those who prefer it, the Jog Shuttle contol is still available in the QT 7 A/V control panel.
As to your original topic question, only Apple knows what its timetable may be for the final phasing out of the QT 7 Player/Pro Player software. And, while it is likely that it will eventually be replaced, I for one, can at least hope that this won't take place until such time as Apple has actually developed viable software with the same editing features and capabilities. However, at this time, QT 7 Pro remains compatible with Apple's choice of a long-term, highly scalable default system video compression format—MPEG-4 AVC. Since the handwriting was effectively "written on the wall" in 2005 when Apple chose to use this format on the iPod Classic 5th Gen mobile device, I began migrating to this format at that time. As a result, I have had little problem in terms of compatibility issues over the years. My only real regret is having to re-compress my files each time Apple increases maximum resolutions, efficiency, or adds options and, with the advent of 4K and Real 3D, expect this trend will continue in the future. But, at least for the present, my files remain dual compatible with both classic QT 7 and new QT X based apps, system features like QL, and all current mobile/remote viewing devices.

• Is FireWire being phased out?

I too am disappointed that you can't synch the new iPod with FireWire (though I am told you can still charge the battery this way), since I don't have USB 2.0. Is this a general trend to phasing out Firewire? I would have loved to see a jump up to Firewire 800 on iPods!

Agreed, jeffdc
From the Ars Technica Vid-iPod "Vivisection" (Bottom of the second page)

Most speculation concerning the lack of Firewire support in the new iPods center around the space needed to package the Firewire chipset within the device. Most people who seem to be in the know have said that the amount of board space needed to implement Firewire vastly outweighs a similar USB implementation. Eliminating Firewire altogether seems to have been one of the many tradeoffs Apple had to make to achieve a smaller and lighter device. This may not be much consolation to those users with old USB 1.1 ports, but for many Mac and Windows users, this change shouldn't affect them much.

I think the digital video community would scream if FireWire went away.

• Why are my emails being sent out multiple times, ie from me mac and icloud?

Hi. When I send an email from Mail program it sents from each option, ie mac, me and icloud...

Mail > Preferences > Composing > Send new message from:
Select the address you want.
Best.

• I have had to create a new Apple ID due to my old email being locked/out of use. I can not access my old email/Apple Id to change icloud and imessage to my new Apple ID. Any ideas?

I have had to create a new Apple ID after having my previous email locked and put out of use. I have managed to change my purchasing for music and apps to my new Apple ID but for iCloud and iMessage I can not access my old email/Apple ID to change this.
Any ideas guys. Sorry if this has been posted previous.
New here.
Thanks

You need to delete them and then download them from the new Apple ID. This may require repurchasing paid applications.

• Emails being sent out even while I haven't had the computer on.

Last week I had a worm email that come to my mac and sent out junk emails. I scanned the system but it couldn't find anything. It didn't bother me because I had order the new 27" iMac which came on Thursday.
I set up the new Mac and used time machine to transfer settings across from a back up I made on the 26 April which was three weeks before the worm email came to me from a PC user. Yesterday, I started getting messages sent to my iPhone about failed delivery of emails like before when I had the worm on my old system. How can this happen on a new system? I have a friend staying with me since Friday so I haven't used the new mac. Any ideas? Also what is the best bit of software for checking for worms? Is it possible that this could be an email issue at the server end?
I have made the assumtion that someone must have hacked my account because I can't see how a brand new machine would be infected by a virus of any kind. Further I was out all day on Saturday and my Mac was not on. Is it possible for viruses to be active on the servers at my email provider?
Any suggestions?
Thanks guys.

They are using your email address as the return address and faking all the other headers, or they do have your password and are sending directly using your account.
If they are using your account directly, log into your web mail interface for that account and check the sent mail.
If you find anything in there that you didn't send, then they have your password.
Either way, change your password on the account.
If they just have your email address, you'll just have to wait it out.

• User is reporting duplicate emails being resent out.

I am not totally sure this is related to his iPhone, but it appears this might be the case. The user has Entourage on his Mac and an iPhone 3GS with OS 4.02 connected to an exchange 2007 sp1 server. He noticed this has happened several times where his mail account would re-send out randoms emails. What could be the cause of this??

Are any of you using the Daylite contact management program with the DMI mail interface? Just fishing for possibilities since no one has really responded. Are either of you having any other weird Mail behavior? One of our computers is having major issues with the indexing (envelope) corruption where the inbox disappears. We are going to Apple store tomorrow for further investigation. Any other info or help is appreciated. To us it sounds like a virus or bug in Mail.

• Avoid emails being send out from the staging environment

We would like to avoid that users of CRM OD get emails which are triggered from the Staging or Training environment. Is there a way to check for the environment and pod in an expression? Any best practices on this?

Hi,
We will not be able to find in any expression builder. I feel like to Inactive all the Action Items in the WFs
