Blackberry help in China

Dear Sir,
I've been using Blackberry for a year back in my Home country in Indonesia.
(the blackberry is bought in Indonesia) and it always worked fine for me
despite minor problems.
Recently i've been relocated to mainland China due to work and I took the BB
with me here in China.
I switched my GSM card to local SIM card "china mobile" and was planning on
using BB as "just" a normal phone anyway - having heard that BB is banned or
there are no BIS service in China - not sure which.
the problem is, there are a small white triangle on the top status bar.which
indicates roaming...I mean...how on earth could I be roaming if i'm using a
a local provider bought in the very same city i am living in?
and one more major problem is that I can send text messages back home but
cannot receive a reply.
and I'm sure the people i knew back home sent me a reply because they
emailed me and told me they have sent me a reply.
Is there anything wrong with my BB?
can you help me and give me correct settings - if any.
so that I can use my BB even as a normal phone?
FYI the phone is already unlocked by the original provider when i bought it..
Yours sincerely,
Edwin

You're right that the white triangle indicates you're roaming, it's just that China Mobile is roaming. Why, I don't know, you'd have to ask them that.
For the SMS sending, first try a simple reboot: With the BlackBerry device POWERED ON, remove the battery for a minute, and then reinsert the battery to reboot.

  • Blackberry service in China using local sim card.

I have a Bold 9700 (unlocked) which I would like to use in China. I am hearing that it may be tough if not impossible to get a pre paid sim with voice and data capabilities. Is data just blackberry email and messaging or does it include GPS and Internet? Thanks.

    Hey there!
Greetings from China! I've got an unlocked Torch with me that I am using on China Unicom (pre-paid) for almost 2 weeks here now (Beijing). I actually did not procure the SIM myself for it...the hotel did it for me. They said that it actually is tough to get them now due to very recent new rules requiring all kinds of identification and deposits and such. But, the locals still know how to work around that, so someone from my hotel got it for me. I just had it topped up today as I used up all of my minutes...too bad since I'm leaving on Wednesday, but the cost is pretty much nothing. I only got voice and SMS service...didn't need full data services on that device as I also have my VZW Storm 2 with me with full international roaming, so I have it for that stuff. Just be sure to use WiFi whenever you can...the roaming charges are pretty steep. I was in China and Singapore much of August and my VZW bill was about $1,700. Should be less this time since I had the Torch for voice here. In addition to not worrying about purchase (since the hotel took care of that for me), I also didn't worry about configuring -- they did that as well and a friend who speaks Mandarin did my top up for me today. Yes, I am a bit spoiled by all of the help...but it does help a lot.
As for network, if you want data, do stick with China Unicom -- they have 3G while China Mobile only has 2G (EDGE). I can really tell the difference when my Storm grabs China Mobile instead of Unicom. I finally figured out to set my configuration to seek out only 3G and that keeps it on Unicom all the time now.
Sorry I can't be much more help -- I had help myself and that alleviated the burden on me. If you are staying in a 5-star hotel, seek out their assistance for sure. You can try looking at the airport on arrival...I tried but didn't see anything of use (plus was just so tired from the flight that all I wanted was to get to my hotel and crash). I've seen advertisements for a service (I think it's Panda something or other) that talks about pre-ordering a SIM and having it ready at your hotel, plus with easy top up service. I didn't use them and I'm not sure it would have worked with the new rules, but you could also check them out.
Good luck and enjoy China! Be sure to climb the great wall -- you must be a hero!

  • Blackberry Torch in China

    Hi All,
I am moving to China and am wondering if my daughter's blackberry torch will work on China mobile if I purchase a new sim card.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Joanne

Your daughter currently has a BlackBerry Torch 9800. I cannot confirm anything about China Mobile, but China supports:
    2G capabilities; GSM 900, GSM 1800
    3G capabilities; UMTS 2100

  • Any ideas for fast track Blackberry help?

I know nobody has time for long rambling posts so I'm going to endeavour to keep this short. The android part of the operating system software on my Q10 is no longer working after a system restore to fix another issue. I've tried wiping the whole thing and starting afresh but still programmes like Skype and my network provider's own app won't start up. Blue line of death each time. I've sought help as follows:
    1. Call EE's technical help, they say they can't help as it's app related, I explain it's actually the phone software, they say they still can't help and I have to contact Blackberry direct. They refuse to escalate the issue their end.
    2. I call Blackberry, they say EE were wrong and I have to go through them in the first instance who will pass the problem on if they can't fix it. I explain I've tried that but they say it is is the only way.
    3. I go back to EE, this time I refuse to take no for an answer but still the technical services team refuse to engage directly with the issue. I am put on hold as the customer services person goes back to EE technical services who stick to the line that I have to call Blackberry direct. This time they accept it is a software issue but have no solution and maintain they will not escalate to Blackberry themselves. By now I'm thinking an iPhone on an O2 contact seems quite appealing.
    4. I refuse to drop the call until the customer services rep at EE calls Blackberry, in the end he does and is told that they will not discuss the problem as it has to be escalated properly through the EE technical services department.
    5. I've given up It is a maze of unhelpfulness and to say I'm disappointed is an understatement. The Q10 is clunky enough but this ridiculous system of technical help is the end as far as I'm concerned.

If EE refuses to escalate the issue... well, you are paying them for this technical support.
    That's the only way.

  • Setting up 2nd email address on my Blackberry-help please!

    Hi,
I have just had an IT professional overhaul my business email and (I think) I have  new settings however I found all relevant details but cannot reconnect my business email to my phone. My personal email is on there fine
I am on o2 and when I go to o2email I follow all the instructions. I have tried accessing the information directly through Internet explorer as instructed but it does not detect my settings (I use outlook express). An icon that looks like a small blue shield comes up temporarily I have tried inputting all the information myself. The only thing I am unsure of is the address of my server. I have one for incoming mail (IMAP: vipmail.effing.co.uk) and a different one for outgoing (SMTP smtp.talktalk.net) so which should I put in and how??
This is driving me nuts.I spend hours getting nowhere and, yes, I have asked the IT professional but as far as I can tell he is just shrugging his shoulders at the other end of the line
    Help!

It can take 15-20 mins for the BIS to start pushing the emails to your device.
Also, make sure you in Outlook Express you have it set to "leave messages on server". I don't know exactly where that option is in Outlook Express, but it will be similar to that in Outlook:
IF you are using Outlook to download your email to your desktop PC, Outlook is likely "deleting" mail from your email server when it downloads it to your PC.
There is a setting in Outlook to "Leave Messages on Server".
    For MS Outlook 2003:
    1. Outlook > Tools > Email accounts > View or Change existing > next.
    2. Highlight the email account > Change > More Settings.
    3. Advanced Tab > Leave a Copy Messages on Server
    4. Check that box.
    * You will need to perform this edit for each Outlook email account you have.
Other versions of Outlook have a similar setting although it might located in a slightly different location in the :advanced settings.

  • Email forwarded or replied to on PC not showing as replied/forwarded to on Blackberry - help please?

    Hi All
I have access on Outlook on PC to my manager's emails.  He works predominantly on blackberry off site.  If I reply to his emails on PC, when the Blackberry syncs wirelessly, the messages I replied to or forwarded don't show as having been replied to ie. the envelope icon doesn't have ticks on it.  Any suggestions please?  Thanks

    KTMac,
A suggestion is when sending an email using his credentials is to include him within the BCC field. This will ensure he not only seems that yo have replied to a message but also see the contents of your reply as a new email message. On the device its self you do you have the option to set Hide Sent Messages, you may want to set this to No.
    Hope this helps,

  • Novice to Blackberry help needed !!!!!!

I am struggling with my 1st Blackberry (curve 8320on the box 8520 on the desktop) carrier Virgin (who can't or won't help). I am firstly trying to set up wifi with no success at all. When I got it a week ago it connected to the wifi immediately. However, the cable modem then broke & virgin replaced this & since then I can't connect at all. I get messages using things like SSID codes or if I go manually it tell me to type in a code - where does this go? Also, when I connect BB to laptop, I can't see anything that is on the phone on the BB desktop, what on earth am I doing wrong? I'm sooooo frustrated with this.

Following the official tutorial should be a good starting point. Also looking at official samples implementation.

  • Receiving e-mail on Blackberry while in China - is there an additional roaming cost?

I have the unlimited data plan for my Blackberry and am travelling in China.  I thought that receiving e-mail would cost me $20/MB since I'm roaming, but a friend here believes that I can always receive e-mail on my Blackberry for no additional roaming cost.  Is this true, or will I get charged $20/MB to receive e-mail?
    Thanks.

Actually, you are both wrong.  You will need to change your data plan to the Global Blackberry plan for $64.99 per month and you will be able to get your emails while in China.

  • Blackberry Help does not care about the customer

Guys first let me tell you that I haven't seen an abysmal customer service like this. Even the people who sell pirated or illegal materials offer better customer service than this. Seriously. I think BB doesn't give a s*** about the customers, the only official method is to ignore the customer it seems.
    Originally, my problem was this:
    http://forums.crackberry.com/blackberry-passport-f434/random-reboots-unrecognized-sim-urgent-help-ne...
I have contacted BB Help at Twitter over and over and over again but only a bot answers the messages. Look at that. A bot is answering the complaints at the company who calls themselves "elite" and "enterprise" company. Please help me I am going insane. Should I consult a lawyer? I want to use my one year manufacturers warranty but I can't because BB does not offer any help.

I called customer support once. I was more help to myself than they were to me. Lol

That's a pretty common (and irritating) issue actually.
Fortunately it's pretty easy to fix. Might sound stupid, but as was already mentioned, you just need to keep connecting and unconnecting the headphones over and over again until it starts working properly. 2 or 3 usually does it for me.
