BlackBerry Maps Search

Why does BlackBerry Maps search work so poorly? I type in something I want to find and items hundreds of km or miles show up before the results around me, even when the local results are exact matches.

I have not had this problem yet.
Their is a new update that was released today for blackberry maps.
"version: 10.1.0.790
See if its available to download yet in your blackberry app. if not probably give 24-48 hours for server to get updated.
It might help fix your issue.

  • BlackBerry Maps on Torch 9810

    I just upgraded from a Torch 9800 to Torch 9810. When I open BlackBerry Maps I shows my current location but the BB button the return key don't do anything. On the touch screen the search and Get directions don't do anything either. I uninstalled the app and reinstalled it using BB Desktop and it is the same no change.  The only thing I can do is press hang up to get out of the app. But the app stays active. I can see it on switch applications and there is no way to close it.
    Has anyone else had this problem?

    I'm not sure if that's a common problem or not but because it's obviously a software glitch, you should try a battery pull if you haven't already.  Battery pulls are recommended quite often in these forums because they do wonders at solving many minor issues.  So with your phone powered on, go ahead and remove your battery.  You can then put it back in a few seconds later.
    Let us know if that helps you.

  • Blackberry Maps & UK Post Codes

    I'm struggling to  make the most of Blackberry Maps on my 8520.
    When I try to search for an address using a post code, it only recognises the first 4 or 5 characters depending on whether its a 6 or 7 figure post-code. So when I try to put in my home address it locates a place 3 miles away from where I actually live.
    When i try to enter town and county I keep getting a message saying they are not recognised.
    I have only managed to save my location by manually finding it on the map.
    Any advice please - and is there a Blackberry Maps instruction manual anywhere??

  • Blackberry maps route

    hello,
    i use blackberry maps on my 8310 curve. if a choose route everything is fine until my route has nodes with special chars like äöü or ß in it like böhmissche straße or berlin-neukölln. these are correct in the xml-file (that i see if i use the simulator, extract see below)
    // start of extract
    _routeXMLstring=<?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8'?>
    <location-document>
      <route distance='842375' time='32103'>
    <instruction x='1344945' y='5247355' a='3' i='14' d='43' n='Böhmische Straße' />
    </route>
    </location-document>
    _routeXMLstring=<?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8'?>
    <location-document>
    // end of extract
    ... but are not correct dsiplayed on the display of the device where
    straße becomes stra?e and
    Böhmische B?hmische.
    is there a point are an interface to intrude something like utfdecode or some other string-methode to correct this?
    thank you very much for your answer.

    Here is one way to do it.
    Search on the address or touch location on map. Tap to get place details. Tap 3 dot icon bottom right. Tap plan route. Tap the reverse route icon. Tap My Location. Enter search term or address.....
    I don't see an easier way to do it.

  • BlackBerry Maps Denmark

    I just got the Z10 phone, and I really really love it. One thing I hate about it though, is the lack of map data for Denmark. The maps app is useless here in Denmark. So when do you guys roll out an update to get full map in the app? There isn't even an alternative app in BlackBerry World.

    OK, I understood Denmark was covered in BlackBerry Maps, sorry.
    I see Denmark specifically stated as a covered country, here:
    http://appworld.blackberry.com/webstore/content/20079177/?countrycode=US
    In your BlackBerry World, could you please search "maps", I do see several free and paid mapping applications, which state all countries and all carriers.

  • BlackBerry Maps "Ignores" Some Addresses

    On my Verizon BB Curve 8330, BB Maps cannot 'find' many of my contact addresses even though Google Maps *can*.  When I try to get directions from my current location to one of these addresses, Maps 'searches' for the contact.  However, rather than posting an error message (like "cannot find site"), it simply reverts back to the screen asking me to "Select End Location" again--as if I never did that step.  I'm running BB 4.5.0 Core Applications, which seems to be current since the BB Desktop Manager never finds anything when I tell it to "check for updates".  Is this a bug for which there is a known workaround?  Does anyone have any suggestions?  Thanks!

    First, do a simple reboot on your device > With the BlackBerry device POWERED ON, remove the battery for a minute, and then reinsert the battery to reboot.
    Then, let's refresh the GPS:
    On all model BlackBerrys, first make certain that you in an area of good signal coverage AND outside with a clear view of the sky in an open area of no tall buildings.
    For GSM network devices, do this:
    Click Options > Advanced > GPS > Menu > Refresh GPS.
    Give it up to 10 minutes to refresh, and try 2-3 times in a row.

  • Blackberry Maps Deficiencies

    I've tried to make use of Blackberry maps, as it is the only fee app that has navigation built in, but I find it very frustrating when trying to search, especially for locations near me.  I'm in Ontario, and quite often auto-complete search results give me locations in the US, sometimes hundreds of kilometers away.  Also often street names do not show up, rather route numbers are shown, for example, searc for McGill university, then view the map.  When you zoom in , you only see route 138.  I don't think anyone knows this is Sherbrooke street.

    Hello,
    Depending on your BB10 OS level, this could be a known bug that has been cured in later versions. I recommend you check your OS level and if you are not on 10.2.1.3247 that you immediately update to it via Sachesi:

  • Blackberry maps lost

    i recently upgraded my 8800 phone to the latest version available (4.5) and lost my maps application. i tried to install it back and it seems to require 4.1 or 4.2. how can downgrade to 4.2 or get the maps working with the current software?
    thanks

    First, have you been to BlackBerry World and searched for BlackBerry Maps?
    If not, try this:
    Connect it to your PC via the USB cable.
    On your PC, go to www.blackberry.com/updates
    Click on the appropriate OS level 7 and earlier link.
    On that page, click on Check for Updates.
    If you get an update, install it, and that should also reinstall BBMaps.

  • Problem loading BlackBerry maps

    Hi.
    I've only just bought my 8800 and it's driving me crazy. It was supposed to be loaded with the maps, but wasn't. I tried downloading them from the BB website, but got the message that no BlackBerry device was found. This was despite the desktop manager telling me that I was connected. After trying different USB ports on the computer and still getting no success, I tried the same thing on my laptop. I again received the same message that no BlackBerry device could be found, even though the desktop manager was again telling me that I was connected.
    What do I do? Please help.

    Hi,
    The Blackberry Maps program only works in certain countries - other countries just show a blank  "green/grey" screen. if you zoom out to max you can se the map of the world...
    To download maps, you need to have a Working Blackberry Data connection.
    Do you get emails to the handset using BIS or BES?

  • An Update for BlackBerry Maps is Seriously Overdue

    I've been with BlackBerry 10 since day one with the Z10 and I've noticed that the BlackBerry Maps app never really gets any love. This is a bare bones app that has still not gotten the update it needs and I believe many of us feels it is time.
    It seriously needs public transit directions and schedule updates and incorporating nearby POI when asked (much in line with what the BlackBerry Assistant does). I'm personally not a person who drives and prefers transit and I find this really frustrating not to have such a great feature built into this app.
    The option to view in satellite and and a hybrid of the satellite and standard map view is also important.
    Performance updates is needed as it is taking longer than usual for the app to load due to 10.3.1.
    Please update the app soon if you want to attract more users.

    I've used BeMaps Pro, Google Maps and Blackberry Maps in tandem at one point, but I just don't get why Blackberry doesn't do what Apple did for iOS, Nokia with Windows Phone and Google for Android. It's a native app and a no-brainer that should come standard on any smartphone eco-system!
    It shouldn't be hard to provide an update these days, I mean, Blackberry should be able to figure it out why it hasn't been able to attract more new users and actually RETAIN them.
    I get the fact that the bottom line for Blackberry is corporate base and security, but to really get them locked in, the native experience is really what matters the most. A user shouldn't need to rely on several apps just to do one thing. I'd say re-invest in TAT and Blackberry World, make it attractive and maybe even make it into a cash cow too.
    I find Blackberry Maps more reliable than Google Maps, but am hesitant to say 100% simply because Blackberry Maps feels like Google Maps lite and so does other apps. I don't want to sound like a whiny fan, but please, the phone is supposed to make your life easier, not harder.
