Blackberry Newbie

Hi,
I am a Blackberry Newbie, but I have been using Macs and PCs since 1988. I can tell you this is not very good support system. I should have an email address to send this to rather than letting it fly to a forum, sorry forum not your fault.
1) I got a brand new Curve 8530.
2) OS X Snow Leopard10.6.2 on Mac Book Pro
3) The latest Blackberry Desktop Mmanager vs 1.0.1 (build 2)
4) Error: Blackberry Desktop Manager failed to connect to your BlackBerry device. Reconnect your device and try again.
5) No luck on connecting after repeated tries.
 Is it the Curve? or any ideas where to get help?

i have a similar problem.  I have the bold 9700 and when I try to download the software for my mac, it says this softwar does not support my OS.  What can I do? Are there older versions. 
Is there any way to contact blackberry support?

  • HELP! Blackberry newbie I don't know what I'm doing

    Hello,
    I'm new to the Blackberry world!  I have had many Palm pda's but have never had so much trouble or problems with them as I have with the BB.  I know it must be something I'm doing because I hear nothing but praise on the BB.  I installed the desktop software about 4 times before it actually started working.  I tried to install the RIM Media manager but, it doesn't work quite well needed to get into my computers reg. to delete the RIM program.  I tried to sync my palm centro with the bb but, it says working on the computer but, nothing is going on half hour later.....still waiting.
    I was told I could transfer my programs from my centro and still, I have no clue what I'm doing.  I tried to install the music on the bb but it says network error or that it couldn't connect to that page.  I also tried to do the bluetooth transfer to the bb from the palm but, still the palm says it cannot connect to bb.  I'm loosing my mind trying to get all of this together and I'm ready to give back the bb and stay with my centro.... someone please help....

    Please specify the following:
    model and OS of the Blackberry you are using. OS an be found in OPTIONS - ABOUT- it will look like 4.x.x.xxx.
    PC and operating system.

  • INTERNET SUPPORT HELP - Curve related - Blackberry newbie walkthroughs

    Hi guys, 
    I'm new here. I currently work as internet support somewhere and I've been asked to write articles on Blackberry devices. 
    The below questions are the ones I need answered as I'm completely new to Blackberry. Having trawled the internet, it'd be a big help. 
    We use Curve phones but any extra answers for the newer versions or OS's etc would be amazing. 
    Anyway, these are the ones I need answered, step by step ideally: 
    A - How to get connection details (Mac, IP, DG, DNS)
    B - How to determine SSID and if possible BSSID
    C - How to ensure set to DHCP
    D - How to check for proxy settings
    E - How to clear browser cache
    F - How to reset connection (release/renew) and or forget network settings/passwords
    I've setup instant email notifications so I can keep track of this.

    Hello all,
    As a Blackberry newb I have accidentally deleted the BB ID you find in OPTIONS>THIRD-PARTY APPLICATIONS.
    There are 3 modules net_rim_bbid_api, net_rim_bbid_common and net_rim_bbid_daemon.
    Where do I download and restore these modules.
    The phone and all its functions are working but would like to correct the situation.
    Any help would be much appreciated.

    I'm lost, you had a BB ID application? What is the name of the application you deleted? Do you have BlackBerry Internet Service? What is your Operating System version(check under options>about?

  • Desktop Software crashes when clicking on "Configure Settings"

    Hi,
    I am a Blackberry newbie having bought my first one yesterday: a Bold 9780.
    I installed the Desktop Software that came with the CD on my notebook running Windows 7 Professional. When Desktop Software started up after installation, I immediately got an error message that said "Rim.Desktop.Autoupdate has stopped working" and it then tries to search for a solution which didn't work.
    However, Desktop Software managed to open up nicely despite that problem. In the main window, I went through the setup procedure as prompted. But when I got to "Organizer" and click on "Configure Settings...", it will attempt to do so but will crash with a message saying "Black Berry Desktop Software has stopped working". I have tried it several times and had the same response.
    I have spent close to 8 hours through the night reading through all the message and forums here and on other websites and have tried countless ideas: clean uninstall and reinstall, register DLL files, etc. but nothing works. I have even tried installing the previous version 5.0.1 which also has some issues with being unable to open device database or something like that.
    Getting this desktop software working is very important as I need to import all my work contacts from Outlook 2007 to my new 9780.
    I am really at my wits end and would appreciate any help.

    Hi, thanks for the reply. I tried the steps mentioned at the sites you linked but none of them helped at all. Upon further searching, I found a KB article mentioning that the crashing issue has been escalated with no solution as yet. It recommended that DM 5.0.1 be used instead.
    So I did a clean uninstall of Desktop Software 6, downloaded DM 5.0.1 and went through the setup as documented. Did a sync and encountered a new problem. I check through and found some articles that recommended I try to narrow down the problem. I managed to sync my "task" and "notes" list on Outlook 7 with the BB Bold 9780 with no issues. But when I tried to sync the "Calendar" and "Address Book", it failed. Opening the log file, I discovered this error:

    Again I googled it and came up with nothing that worked. Stuff I tried:
    1) Cleared the database using the "Advanced" function in "Backup and Restore" but that didn't help either.
    2) Deleted the "IntelliSync" folder and re-configured the sync and tried it again. Nada.
    3) Created a new empty profile on Outlook 2007 with no calendar or address book entries just in case there are some corrupted entries there, reconfigured DM 5.0.1 to sync from that and overwrite all data on my Bold 9780 and that didn't work either.
    4) To be sure, I even tried to sync from Yahoo. And those DM did successfully log in, the same error as above pop up.
    I would hazard a guess that DM 5.0.1 is not able to open the Bold 9870's database. Not sure why.
    I think I should mention at this point that I am using Windows 7 Pro Edition and Outlook 2007. I am not using any enterprise nor any wireless sync. All I am trying to do is to get my address book and calendar entries onto that DARN Bold 9780 with the supplied cable.
    I am thinking that maybe DM 5.0.1 may not be able to access the database on my Bold because it's running OS6.
    Any ideas?

  • Getting the message: "XML code not well formed"

    Hi folks!
    I'm a blackberry newbie, and I love it, but I'm having a difficult time understanding why it won't allow me to download a WAP push link to download a ringtone. Every time I try to link I get the message: "The XLM code is not well-formed". I've tried everything from resetting the default browsers to contacting the company who is sending the WAP push message-and they had to download my BlackBerry diagnostics to try and figure out why the phone wasn't accepting the code. I'm going nuts trying to figure this out because it worked on my previous phone: same carrier (T-Mobile), Samsung phone.
    Anybody have any insight into this?

    I did contact the site and he downloaded my blackberry diagnostics to diagnose the issue.  He was able to download it to HIS Blackberry pearl (so he said) with no problem, and finally, I was able to download the exact same ringtone from the same site to my Samsung phone a week before I purchased the BlackBerry.
    It sounds to me as if the issue is with the BlackBerry not accepting the WAP site's code the same way the Samsung did.
    I'm a complete newbie, but that's how it seems to me.  Frustrating

  • Calendar/Contacts Desktop Access

    I am a Blackberry newbie and currently converting from a Treo to Blackberry Storm.  When using the Treo, the Palm software that I used was the Palm Desktop which allowed me to access my contacts and calendar on both my Treo and on my desktop.  On my desktop, I selected the Palm Desktop to see all of my appointments and contacts.  How can I do this with the Blackberry?  With Blackberry desktop?  I have heard that I may need to sync with Outlook (which I do not have installed).  Is that my only option?

  • Yahoo filters and email subfolders

    Hello, i'm a blackberry newbie. the main reason i got the phone was to check email on the go. i'm synching with yahoo mail. inside yahoo i have many filters that send important emails to various subfolders,  but the black berry only shows what's in my inbox,  which is basically all  the junk i'm not interested in. Do i really have to turn off my yahoo filters and have everything go into the inbox just  so the blackberry can see it??

    You don't need to unlink the account to resolve this. If you go to verizon.net and click on accounts, you will see Profile on the left hand side from there you should see account settings click manage. From there you will see Change password and that should take care of the more complex pw without having to change the yahoo experience

  • Shared email problem

    I am a Blackberry newbie and received a 8330 for work that was from a previous employee.  We have BES and Microsoft Exchange server.  My Outlook 2007 profile sends/receives from a direct/work and a support email address.  However, after two activations and several battery pulls, i still only receive email from my direct/work address on the bb.
    Any help with this issue is greatly appreciated!

    I was able to resolve the receiving email from [email protected]  I removed my rule in Outlook to move all emails to support to a created, support folder and ran "Register Now" in the Host Routing Table on the bb.  Now to just figure out how to "Send using" as [email protected]

  • Using Desktop software on different Windows platforms?

    Dumb question from Blackberry newbie. I have a desktop with Windows Vista 64 bit and Outlook 2007 plus a laptop with Windows XP 32 bit and Outlook 2003. If I install Blackberry Desktop software on both will they work on same Storm smartphone, or am I looking for trouble?

    from the requirements you provided, I don't see a hinderance not to use Guardian Edge as long as you use Windows XP.
    Why Windows Vista is not mentioned is a little mysterious, but might have a reason.
    The MBP meets these requirements.
    Only thing that could be a hinderance is the section with the 'BIOS Int 13h'.
    According to this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/INT_13 the Int 13h is a Low Level Disk Services, which can cause trouble on a Mac, since Macs don't have a BIOS, but use the EFI http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ExtensibleFirmwareInterface , which is the successor of BIOS.
    If Guardian Edge is relying on the presence of a BIOS, this can be a reason why it won't work on a Mac with BootCamp Windows.
    So it might be wise, to contact Guardian Edge asking them if they see/know of problems using their software on a Mac.

    To mange your files, try a file manager like Files & Folders.
    Drag gestures are available in OS 2.0 which should be available before the end of Feb (rumour has it, this week).
    In OS 2 you will also be able to create new PPT presentations.

    Well, while you didn't offer any details, one method would be Options > Advanced > Applications.
    Find the application in the list > press the Menu key > Delete.

  • Blackberry 8130 newbie

    Hi folks! Just upgraded through Telus to the 8130. This technology is VERY new to me, some basic questions:
    1. When I check voicemail there are quite a number of prompts and I would like to delete some of those prompts. How do I do that?
    2. I have a minimal data plan, which is basically for e-mails and text. Does this mean that if I wanted to get the navigational device I would have to upgrade to a plan that included web browsing? Similarly with respect to IM?
    3. The software is freaking me out because I do not understand it!!!!!

    relax.... this won't hurt a bit.
    Voicemail is a feature of the carrier, not the device.  Anyone at Telus should be able to help you shorten the voicemail menus if they provide that feature.
    Yes, navigation will increase your data usage, depending on how frequently you use it and how long your routes are.  The real question, like the one above, goes to Telus.  Do you NEED to upgrade your data plan in order to add Navigation, or can you coast along with pay-as-you-go until it's clear that it's costing you more?  Also, how much is the upgrade--  for $5 it might just be worth upgrading the data plan, but for $20, maybe not.
    Blackberry is a pretty easy OS.  You should have a 'Help' applicaiton on your device- take the time to look through the menus, and check out the Tips and Tricks on the device, in the box or on the web. 

  • New to Blackberry family. Having email issues.

    Ok gang, I'm sure you are tired of helping people with this matter but my wife bought me a Curve recently. I upgraded my hotmail account to a hotmail plus account.so that i could get the emails on my phone. For some reason everytime I get a email it puts the emails in my text message folder also. I would personally like to keep the 2 seperate. any suggestions on how I can fix it? I would appreciate any help that anyone could provide. Thanks in advance!

    Welcome to the family~! I am a newbie myself and there may be a shorter short cut but what i do is go to my SMS icon.  Go up to the date.  click my menu (blackberry key - to the let of my track ball) scroll down to options..click on GENERAL SETTINGS  ...scroll down to SMS and EMail INBOXes and click SEPERATE.  This will seperate them into email and SMS icons ... Hope that helps!!
