I have a Blackberry Pearl (8100) with AT&T and am using AT&T as my ISP. How do I use the phone as a Bluetooth modem with my MacBook? • Internet Access/Email On My Blackberry Pearl 8100.

My mobile ‘phone account is with U.K. Orange on a pay-monthly basis. I recently bought a U.K. Vodafone-locked Blackberry Pearl 8100 from eBay. I got it unlocked successfully and inserted my Orange SIM card in it.
Everything works EXCEPT that I have no internet or email access whereas I did before on my old Orange Treo 600. I don’t even have a browser icon on the “desktop”. I tried to send an email from “Messages” but all I got was “No message services configured”.
Is there any way I can access the internet/email easily with my new Blackberry?

I think that your device has lost its OS.
But I am confused : are you sure the "Device Manager" does not recognize the 8100 ? Are you not referring to the "Desktop Manager" ?
Anyway, if the battery pull did not fix the issue, I think you will have to rely on another software than the Desktop Manager to load an OS on your device again. Just wondering if anyone can tell me how to reset my blackberry pearl 8100 or how to get my factory settings back to the way it was when I first got the phone.
    Thank you!

dude iam no tec but i know when "RESETTING A Coumputer" or "Reformating a Computer" you will need the BASE PROGRAMS ariganaly on the system because its all gone after resetting. srry Bro but you will need the programs that run the vid and pic files that were on the blackberry, i think u will have to buy them back because your not a tec resetting a product. Srry again.   and the only reson i posted on your thread was because, i typed "resetting my Blackberry pearl" and yours came up and read yours and i felt bad that you got screwd and felt that you and the tecs need to here what my phone has done. so dont feel bad just say screw them and get a new phone cuz they really didnt tell you enuff info about RESETTING a smart phone witch is really just  a hand size computer. and if you have ever reformated a computer you would have known this, or my not have reolized its was a computer and not a phone cuz they realy didnt say, they just called it a "smart phone" more like DUMB  phone to me but hey what ever, tecnology is only as good as the programer and as you can see he or them was not very smart with this one.

Oh, and just a little info to Adobe - Blackberry users are no
longer old, stuffy CEO types anymore who just need a BB for
business contacts. I'm a mom, a grad student, and I work at home. I
use my BB for just about everything, from calls to organizing
appointments. Most of all, I use my BB to hold notes for my
classes. I'd really like to use the second language software I got
for learning other languages... my friends all use the software
fine on their PDA's (but they have windows mobile OS). Here I am w/
this great Blackberry... but cannot stay up to date and on the go,
like I want to. Flash isn't just for those looking to download some
Youtube video. It helps out the regular people out there who really
would like to get the most out of Adobe software... PLEASE offer
flash for the BB Pearl! Thank you! :)

    Hi,
Sounds like you have a corrupt Device OS.OS.
If you have a good backup of the phone you can restore it after the procedure.
Here is the procedure to do a clean install: read TANZIM'S POST:

  • Blackberry pearl 8100 as a tethered modem - once worked fine but not anymore

For about a year upto late Sept 2008 I had been using my bb pearl 8100 as a tethered modem.  Although it was slow I was able to access the internet from my desktop pc.  But for some unknown reason in late Sept 2008 that all changed - i.e. I can longer access the internet from my desktop pc via the pearl - and neither I nor my ISP can work out what why.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled bb desktop manager (three different versions, the latest being 4.2.2.6), I have updated my device software, I have updated the modem drivers, I have installed the desktop software on 2 other computers and connected the pearl but I continue to experience the same problem, that being that although I am able to establish a phone connection little or no data is being transmitted.  The best I have been able to acheive is sending about 35k of data and receiving about 2.5k over a 3 hour period.  On most other occassions no data is exchanged at all although a connection is established.  Has anyone else ever experienced anything like this?  If so, how (if you did) did you  resolve it?  I'd also welcome any suggestions from others who think they have a solution.  Thanks. J.

in windows XP you can try:
    1. Select Start> Settings> Network Connections.
    2. Double-click the New Connection Wizard. New Connection Wizard will open.
    3. Click Next.
    4. Select the option Connect to the Internet. Click Next.
    5. Select Setup my connection manually. Click Next.
    6. Select Connect using a dial-up modem. Click Next.
    7. If the Select a Device screen appears, select the Modem - Standard Modem check box. Click Next.
    8. In the ISP Name field, type a name for your connection. Click Next.
    9. In the Phone number field, type * 99 #. Click Next.
    10. Indicate which users will have access to the connection. Click Next.
    11. Enter your user name and password provided by your service provider. Click Next.
    12. Click Finish.
    13. In the Connect window, click Properties.
    14. In the Properties window, verify that Modem - Standard Modem appears beneath the Connect using heading, then click Configure.
    15. In the Modem Configuration window, clear the Enable hardware flow control check box and make sure all of the other boxes are not checked above. Click OK.
    16. In the Properties window, click OK
in Ubuntu, I can not try it but I've tried in XP and succeeded.... good luck

  • Blackberry Pearl 8100 randomly shuts off and the status LED flashes red

My pearl was reciently unlocked and changed from AT&T service to t-mobile. after this switch the pearl started having fits of rage where it will turn off randomly, weather any keys have been hit or even if it is idle. the device LED then flashes red, sometimes once, other times it will flash once every 4 seconds for hours. then it will randomly turn back on either to the exact screen it had been on before it powered off or it will reboot completley and start the normal start-up procedure and varify security checks just as if the battery were removed. i tried removing the batery and leaving the phone disassymbled for a few nights but in the morning the plague is back and unrelenting. sometimes all i have to do it pick the device up and it will shut off. other times i will be plugging away with it for 20 or so minutes on the internet and then it will die suddenly. it also cuts out in the middle of phone calls. if anyone can help, please let me know.
    blackberry 8100 v4.2.1.96

Is it a new phone? If it's less then a month old see if you can return it, otherwise you can try reloading the OS.
So if you're willing to try that, do the following.
First download and install the Desktop Manager from here (4.6 without Media Manager is recommended): https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads/entry.do?code=A8BAA56554F96369AB93E4F3BB068C22
Next you can use the Backup and Restore feature present in the software to make a backup of all the data on your phone.
Next download and install the handheld software from here: http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
Afterwards try reloading the OS by connecting the device to your computer, open the Desktop Manager, then go into the Application Loader. This will open a wizard that steps you through reloading the OS onto your device. More detailed steps can be found here:

  • Blackberry pearl 8100 lost applications

i dont know what i did but... i cannot access my applications. how can i reaccess them.

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
It is possible that something catastrophic happened overnight. But, before we consider that, perhaps a proper reboot will return things to normal:
Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
    Best!

  • No browser icon on Pearl 8100

Hiya... I am in a world of pain...
Sorry - quite a bit of background on this...
In 2009 my husband bought me a brand new Blackberry Pearl 8100 from the internet (he can't remember exactly where from). I put my existing O2 sim in it, expecting to be able to access the internet/emails, but neither were available to me. A quick call to O2 cleared that one up - my sim was Pay & Go and at that time, O2 were not doing Blackberry web & email on Pay & Go. I used it as a phone for a bit, got peeved (wanted internet and emails!) and bought a Samsung Tocco lite which I have been using up until last week when I found out that, since last July, O2 were now doing Blackberry internet on Pay & Go.
So, I excitedly purchase a bolt on from O2, shove my sim in my lovely Blackberry Pearl, get excited when I see the new icons for Facebook and Google etc... and then I realise that there is no browser option. No globe icon, nothing. The only way I can see a browser icon is if I press the menu key and select 'Switch Application'. The 'phone then says 'requesting', then offers me an option to sign up for Yahoo Messenger. If I hit the 'back' button, the screen goes blank. If I accept 'download', I get: 'Sorry, your device does not meet the system requirements that are needed to support Yahoo'.
I have set up my emails and they work fine. If I click on links in emails, I just get a blank screen.
I have spoken to O2 who have said that 'everything is fine their end' and there is no reason why I can't find a browser icon. They told me to check out the latest Blackberry download so my 'phone is updated. So, I have installed what I believe to be the latest version but that has had no effect whatsoever.
A battery pull (well, about a hundred of them actually..) has also had no effect).
I am close to throwing the flaming thing up the wall. Please help me save my beautiful little 'phone from such a cruel fate... any ideas?
    (OS release: v4.2.193)
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi there!
I suggest the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB):
    1) Register HRT
KB00510 How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with the wireless network
    2) Resend Service Books
KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
    3) Batt Pull Reboot
Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
Hopefully that will get things going again for you! If not, then you could investigate further updating your BB OS...here is a process to do that:
From a PC, you can install any OS package to a BB via this procedure:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Device-Software/How-To-Reload-Your-Operating-Syste...
Note that while written for "reload", it can be used to upgrade, downgrade, or reload -- it all depends on the OS package you download and install to your PC. You can even use a different carriers OS package by simply inserting, between steps 1 and 2, the deletion, on your PC, of a file named VENDOR.XML. Be sure that you remove, from your PC, any other BB device OS packages as having more than one installed to the PC can cause conflicts with this procedure.
If you are on MAC, you are limited to only your carriers sanctioned OS packages...but can still use any levels that they currently sanction. See this procedure:
KB19915How to perform a clean reload of BlackBerry smartphone application software using BlackBerry Desktop Software
