Blackberry Pearl- Why it's the worst phone ever made

Here's why I think the Blackberry Pearl is the worst phone ever made.
1. I can't get photo's off of it. My G1 takes a few seconds. I've worked with this Pear for hours upon hours cannot get my photo's off of it. The Desktop manager really bites too no help there. I really dislike this phone. The software just as bad. I guess they were on the move when Desktop manager was getting written.
2. The phone on occasions would lock on letters instead of numbers. There wasn't an intuitive way to get it unlocked. I found it more intuitive to get a my return from the IRS than it was to get the phone back to dialing numbers.
I'm having my kids dress up as a Blackberry Pearl for Halloween. I'm going to make a Halloween Movie Freddy Kruger attacks people with Blackberry Pearl the topper scene features unsuspecting Pearl user getting tied up and has them attempt to copy their photos off to a PC and the video gets put on Youtube for Christmas.
Very unsatisfied with your product.
Don Quixote

I want to join the fun here and list all the different reasons why I'm very unsatisfied with this phone.
The actual phone part of this phone is pretty slow.  It accepts a phone number almost 3 times slower than I can type it in.  Even typing a name on their handy search bar takes forever to get a result.  If I type to fast, it just ignores a couple of my numbers so I have to delete and retype, at the same super slow pace.  I'm guessing that it searches all sorts of contact and history lists to give me cool suggestions, and that's what makes it so slow.  Either way, it irritates me to no end that the basic reason I have this thing is slow as dirt.
All 3rd Party and Blackberry apps require the Blackberry data service.  Even though there's WIFI on this phone, you simply can't connect to anything except the Browser (and even the Browser requires some setting changes to bypass the upsell screen).  This phone CAN do 3rd party services and other applications without the Blackberry data service, but they just don't allow you to.
Sometimes my phone just turns off.  I don't normally mind the 3 minute boot up process, but when I'm in the middle of something and my phone turns off for no reason, it just compounds my frustration.
The keyboard freezes up all the time.  After a good 1-5 minute "please wait clock", I finally get a message saying there was an error and my input application had to be reset.  Sometimes it doesn't quite reset all the way and I have to pull the battery and again wait for the long boot up process.
Its a little unreliable.  Besides the phone turning off at random and the keyboard freezing, I still have problems other problems.  My bluetooth turns off and sometimes doesn't come back.  Once I had to get a new phone sent to me in order to correct that problem.  Pressing buttons doesn't always get a response, especially the green "call" button.  If the phone is bogged down, it just ignored commands, which is pretty frustrating especially if you press a button and accidently double enter a command that is both the "on" and "off" options.  Also, sometimes the screen fades out (like its suppose to) but doesn't come back when you press keys.  Or the external notifications just don't turn on.  It somestimes just doesn't read my memory card.  The zoom feature on my camera also got stuck.
Other small gripes involve having no caps lock, the SureType never learning from my typing ("Hey" always goes out as "Get"), its overall slowness, the looseness of the back casing, the low quality camera, and so much more.
I don't suggest this phone to anyone.

    touch screen Problem...and so on....

I contributed to this thread earlier:
     http:///t5/Cseries/C3-01-Problems-and-Limitations/m-p/1050133/highlight/false#M20370
Since then I've resolved the WAP problem; but as the OP has stated, the problems I've had with mine have been far and away more than all the phones I've had in the past -combined!
It fails on calls (I'm paying of the call, but nothing can be heard)..Today my touchscreen decided to go AWOL. and locked up..so I took out the battery, same again..then the battery AND the SIM card. Same again..It wouldn't unlock, the only buttons that worked were the push button ones...Then it decided it would work a little, and auto scrolled (Yes really!) the side bar..The it defaulted to the help screen without being touched (Battery out again)...then it worked as it should..but now...if I try to press an icon, it moves up the screen as I press it, so I can't actually open (for example) messages or my address book. If I hold the menu icon down for three seconds, it will eventually open up, but the rest won't..but it might all change in an hour or two..So yes, i agree with the original message it is probably the worse phone Nokia has released.

  • LG Extravert possibly the worst phone ever!

"Upgraded" to this phone and I have to say it was the worst mistake I have ever made as far as phones go. 1. The screenlock button is at the top right side, so whenever you grab the phone normally and try to do anything with it, adjust volume, whatever, the screenlock button is inadvertently touched more often than not and locks the screen up. Horrible placement for that button.  2. The speakerphone is the worst sounding piece of junk ever! I can get better sound out of a garage sale walkie-talkie! 3. If I want to listen to my voicemails, check a bank account balance, etc., and I dial from the closed position, as soon as the call connects, the screen goes dark and I can't put in passwords, account numbers, menu options and the like from the touchscreen. I have to open the phone and do everything from the Qwerty...AND turn off the speaker phone(which is activated when I slide the phone open) to keep my account info and voicemails from being soundblasted all over creation. 4. But, by far, the most irritating thing about this piece of junk is the horrible problem with texting. After having the phone for about two weeks, I noticed I could not delete certain texts. No matter how I tried to do it, texts would not delete! I took it in to Verizon and they rebooted it several times and every time the texts were still there! Since there wasn't anything horribly important contained in those texts, I took the chance at exchanging it anyway, knowing personal info was still on the phone. I took the new one home, and two weeks later, SAME thing started happening, only worse!. Not only could I not delete loads of texts(a few I could), I but texts that I hadn't even read yet were disappearing. I get the alert that a text had come in, I open the screen to read the text from "John Doe", and the text disappeared! I later found it in the folder of "Jan Smith". A response to a text from my son, he never got, but it shows up in the sent folder to an entirely different person. I sent an "I Love You!" to my wife. Doesn't show up there...it shows up as a sent text to a guy friend of mine. This is so ridiculous I don't think I will give this back to Verizon. I would like a credit on my account for the $45 in upgrade fees and taxes, and I want to keep the phone. I will take it home, throw it down in the driveway and enjoy beating the snot out of it with a sledgehammer!

  • Just the worst phone ever? Lumia 810

I had one Nokia 810. It started freezing and restarting randomly, one or more times a day. Then one day it stopped turning on all together. When I charged it, it would flash the t-mobile logo every 5 or 10 minutes and show a low battery symbol. t-mobile was no help. Of course Nokia support was no help. Got another from T-Mobile AND bought a new battery. Battery has been charged for a couple hours- the new phone won't even start! Am I losing my mind? What could I possibly be doing wrong. Yes, I've tried different chargers. How long is a new battery supposed to take to charge? Nokia says 2 hours for a full charge. Obviously, I'm ready to throw this phone in the trash and start over. No more Nokia in my future.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

For anyone else struggling with this- Lumia 810 won't turn on, won't charge, cycling through T-mobile logo, Nextel logo, and red battery symbol- I don't have a solution but I did manage to resolve...something.
Pressing combinations of buttons did nothing. Troubleshooting on a computer did nothing.
In the end the problem seened to be that the battery completely discharged and, for whatever reason, would not recharge.
I hooked my old 810 and old battery up to the USB port on my PC. It cycled, as usual, but several hours later it was on. It completely reset but it was on.
I put the old batter into the new Lumia I received an it powered right on. It continued to charge and work normally from that point.
I put the new battery into the old Lumia to see if it would charge as well. Several hours later it is still cycling. So...
One battery responded to being plugged charged by a PC. The other battery has not responded yet, but I hope that it will. The mystery is that only one phone (the old phone) cycled and showed the battery symbol. The new phone did nothing at all until I put the partially charged batter in it.
I wonder if a place like battery source could charge the battery that hasn't responded yet and that will resolve this. If it does, I'll let you all know. If none of the other suggestions are working for you (they didn't for me) try leaving the phone overnight plugged into the PC. I also wonder if I need an authenthic Nokia charger...

  • Why CF10 is the worst version ever to install

    Hi All
I'd thought id share some of the pain ive been having with installing CF10. We have a pretty big install environment and during our CF10 migration project we have had to install
    - a dev VM on CentOS
    - 3 UAT boxes on Solaris 10 (Sparc)
    - 4 staging/Prod boxes on Solaris 10 (Sparc)
all up that's 8 installs of CF10 and almost 20 instances of CF across all the applications. I have to say I'm really disappointed. This is the first big update ive done on Unix, in the past ColdFusion v4-v9 I have worked on Windows servers.
Some of my main greifs have included this time around:
    - You must apply the mandatory update after you install
    http://helpx.adobe.com/coldfusion/kb/coldfusion-10-mandatory-update.html
    - you then must update to the latest patch - update 11. Except on Solaris I have found it wont do work via CFIDE. You have to use the command line. (CFIDE is broken)
    - CFIDE is horribly broken, we cannot use the 'settings' page at all. Everything must be edited via neo-*.xml files
    http://helpx.adobe.com/coldfusion/kb/coldfusion-administrator-fails-permission-denied.html
    https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=bug&id=3536062
    - wsconfig doesn't deal with multiple sites and multiple instances very well and you have to do everything manually. Including extracting the connector from WSConfig.jar
    http://rob.brooks-bilson.com/index.cfm/2012/2/23/Configuring-Multiple-Instances-of-ColdFus ion-10-with-Apache-Virtual-Hosts
    http://helpx.adobe.com/coldfusion/kb/coldfusion10-apache-manual-connector-configuration.ht ml
    - Solr/jetty Init Script is broken
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1009951
    - the installer on Unix doesn't install it so that the service auto-starts, you have to do that yourself.
    - the Init script doesnt deal with multiple instances or give you a PID so you know how to kill it if it wont stop gracefully, which is happening alot!, we ended up writing our own init.d script.
IMO the next version of CF needs more work on the installer annd CFIDE side of things. It is way too hard to install.

I hear your pain, Pat, but since I help people solve problems like this daily (and they are not always what they seem), I want to share a few thoughts in reply. I realize it may only smack of me being a CF apologist. It comes from sincere motivations and experience in trying simply to help people.
The mandatory update is required because the Adobe-wide server certificate was compromised weeks after CF9 came out. They (the CF team) did not rebuild the installer but offered this “mandatory update” instead. Sure, they could have done a new installer, and some may assert they should have, but that’s a big effort considering how many platforms they support (both OS’s, web servers, databases, their versions, and combinations thereof.)
Same with the need to apply updates upon installation. This is nothing new at all for CF10, but was the same for previous releases, for the same reasons as above.
As for “the CFIDE” being “horribly broken”, I assume you mean the CF Administrator (one of several things provided within the CFIDE folder). As for any page not working, my first suspicious in a case like that is that perhaps the problem is not “in CF” but rather with your configuration. This is just a guess, but an educated one: could it be that you have CF10 trying to run against a CF9 or earlier version of the CFIDE folder? I see it quite often, and not intentional or expected by folks, of course. First, did you happen to have CF 9 or earlier installed on the machine? Or even if not, did you perhaps bring onto this “new machine” a web site docroot that included a CFIDE folder? Or what about your Apache conf file (since you are on Linux). Might it still have alias’s defined pointing to a CFIDE from before?
In CF10, the CFIDE is always stored in the (cf10)\cfusion\wwwroot, or (cf10)(instancename)\wwwroot, if you create a new instance.  The thing is, if somehow you either already have a CFIDE in the docroot for one or more of your web sites, or if there is an alias (or virtual directory, for those readers using IIS) that points to another one besides that stored in the CF10 wwwroot, that could cause the problems you are seeing.
As for the wsconfig, you refer to multiple sites and instances. It should handle multiple sites no problem, and no differently than previous releases. As for multiple instances, there is a difference in CF10. Whereas the previous wsconfig would let you install any site into any of your available instances, the CF10 one for some reason does require that you launch it from within the instance you want to configure a connection to. It does not find and list all instances, if run for the main cfusion instance’s folder. That is indeed confusing to many. (So don’t get me wrong: I’m by no means suggesting that CF10 is perfect. Just that things are often not quite as they seem to some.)
The concern reported about the Jetty/Solr service sounds legit, per that forum entry, but I do note it’s from 2012. Are you sure it’s not something that’s been resolved by an update? You don’t mention if you did apply them, but I’ll assume you did. Did you notice if there were any changes in your problems with the Jetty service after that? And perhaps also the autostart issue?
As for your finding that CF often “won’t stop gracefully”, what do the coldfusion-out.log or (in linux, cfserver.log) tell you in the entries around the time of your attempting to stop CF? There could be (and usually are) clues.
Finally, if you may mean that CF (or the Apache connector) seems to be “crashing a lot”, did you catch the indication in the readme for the update (both update 11, and earlier ones) that states that after applying the update, you may (and generally must) rebuild or at least update the web server connector? Sometimes the updates include a fix to the connector (mod_jk.so for Apache, isapi_redirect.dll for IIS)? If that file (in each folder under (cf10)\config\wsconfig) is still dated March 2012, then you have not updated it and can expect serious problems under even moderate load.
Hope all that’s helpful. Again, not trying to entirely negate your assertion of CF10 having issues. I just think the “worst ever” seems a bit over the top. I understand how you may feel that, but I hope I’ve offered some hope that there may be explanations for things, and that they may help you get off on a better foot if you go forward.
All that said, there is certainly room for improvement in any subsequent release, with respect to the installer, the web server config tool, and other things that you’ve touched on. Let’s hope that Adobe will consider them.

  • 6500 SLIDE THE WORST PHONE EVER!

Does anyone used the Nokia 6500 Slide in here? Because I had so many problem on this phone, 2 weeks when I just had the phone screen when white blank on me while im talking on the phone or text message then several months later phone start to be slow till the phone I can't even play any music on my phone. I'm so sick this model because so many people I know brought this model having so many issued like me. So one suggest don't buy this model...

    Hi,
Have you updated your phone? There is a new version for it - v8.30. You can check your current version by pressing *#0000# on the standby screen.
Try updating your phone's firmware by clicking to this link below:
    http://europe.nokia.com/A4579163
Make sure you meet the system requirements before proceeding and backup some of your important contents.
If the phone still does not show any improvement, I suggest you to send the phone to the Nokia Care Centre near you.
    Good luck

  • No doubt the best phone ever made!!!!

    Hi,
I cannot yet buy an iPhone as i live in the UK but i have no doubts in my mind that when it comes out i will be stading in line.
Was at work today and i noticed one in a customers hand (from San Francisco), just from the size of the screen i knew what it was.
It was like having one of Apples videos demonstarting the phone infront of me, saw the golden gate bridge on google maps, watched a video through the iPod function and even located his grandma's house via her contact dress in google maps.
Those of you that have one don't know how lucky you are.

Oh, I do know how lucky I am. I'm still geeking out over the fact the phone can sense when I move it up to my ear to instantly turn off the screen and turn it back on when I move it away.
Sure there are a few kinks but this really is what a mobile phone should be. Easy for us to take things like this for granted but wow. Really is a great product and it's really nice to see such quick support in the form of applications and sites optimized for the iPhone.
I certainly look forward to software updates by Apple and everything else that will enhance this device.

I work for AT&T Customer Care/Tech Support and there's no way in hell I would recomend the 8220 to any customer unless RIM will actually start doing some customer service. Ive even recomended to AT&T never to support this device until RIM solves this OBVIOUS device issue.
I've even offered to RIM that I am willing to pay some for an upgrade - or a downgrade to a lesser Blackberry - I don't care which, I just want a Blackberry that actually works!
I don't think RIM will do anything untill forced to - ie. if someone needs to call 911 on an 8220 and it shuts off and someone ends up dying as a result. The court case would be LOVELY to see... Would be nice to see a class-action-lawsuit over this issue as well...
If RIM would actually give us an option of replacing this obvious lemon of a phone, maybe, just MAYBE we wouldnt be as upset and would remain loyal customers/users - Just sayin...

  • Droid X: WORST phone EVER

Worst phone EVER.  DO NOT BUY.
    * Constantly reboots
    * Constantly drops data connection
    * Totally ignores third-party email for about an hour on its own which is absolutely CRITICAL.
    * Will only get email immediately when its powered down, then up.
    * 3G coverage blows.
I HATE AT&T and APPLE, but I miss my iPhone already and its only been a week.  But it WORKED, ALWAYS.
They should renamer this the ROID X, because it is a PITA ***!
I had a bag phone in the '90's that worked better than this.

  • N73 worst phone ever!

I have had my N73 for nearly 2 years. When I got it initially it was exchanged due to the phone beeing faulty, or so we thought.
The exchanged unit just did exactly the same. It is terribly slow, when you unlock the phone some times it would take 20-30 sec to come to life. The camera would shut off by itself and is not in sinc with the flash at all. When browsing on the internet it would tell you to shut down other applications - out of memory, and this is when it is the only app running. Phone calls would be dropped at random. The phone shuts off by itself when ever it wants to. It would at random times tell you it is unsafe to remove the memory card. The joystick will not function anymore so now it is just a phone that can make and receive calls, nothing else.
This is by far the worst phone I have ever had, and it is not like it was one of the cheapest phones on the market, it was one of the most expensive. A total waste of money.
I will definately not waste my money on a Nokia again.

thank you for your letter use the contact us link and tell nokia directly or send the phone to a nokia care centre
If  i have helped at all a click on the white star below would be nice thanks.

  • Firefox 4 -- Is it the worst browser ever?

I was using Firefox 3.??? and was prompted to upgrade to a newer version. I agreed to up-grade to 3.6.16 but when I went to download this I was fed Firefox 4. I have tried using 4 for about two weeks on an old Vaio laptop running Windows XP. It is unbelievably slow and crashes in every other site. Watching video online? Forget it. I loathe this new browser.
I have just uninstalled 4 and reinstalled 3.6.16. This was very easy (a) download 3.6.16 from FileHippo or similar source. Go to your [drive name]:/programs/mozilla/firefox/uninstall folder and click on uninstall. Do not click the tab which uninstalls your personal bookmarks and add-ons etc. 4 is gone. Don't need to reboot. Just click on 3.6.16 and install. Everything up and running in one minute. 3.6.16 is what I expect from Firefox -- easy to use, lightening fast, and no site crashes (except when visiting this site, curiously enough). Will be staying with 3.6.16 for a year or so to give the nice folks at Mozilla time to (a) tar and feather those responsible for this fiasco then burn them at the stake (b) scrap 4 and (c) go straight to Firefox 5 without stopping at Go or picking up $200 as they pass.
So, my question, is Firefox 4 the worst browser ever? I dunno but it is certainly the worst Mozilla browser I've ever tried using. Do you agree? Discuss.

Downloaded version 4 today. Worst move of the day. I don't have the time to learn a whole new layout. It wasn't broken - don't fix it. Does NOT support Billeo which I use all the time. Deleted 4 and re-installed 3.6. Will NOT upgrade again.

One thing the iPad lacks is a file manager. There is no file explorer native on the iPad. If you started adding plugin cards, then you add the need for that.  And, in PC's, most viruses spread via the file explorer (the definition of a virus is a malicious program that propagates itself across multiple programs)
There are a few drives out there for iDevices. Such as the WiDrive and others.
