Blackberry playbook OS version 2.1.0.1088 camera error ( error.4003 picture)

As my first boot on my playbook i had to get a newer OS version version 2.1). i tried to take a picture but i can't take any pictures as it comes with an error message (error.4003 picture). how can i fix this? if it can not be fixed how can i download the old OS version of the playbook ( version 1.0)

That error is usually a hardware problem so I doubt you're going to be able to fix it. Read through this thread:

My playbook camera has stopped working and gives the error message 4003. I have the latest software updates and have tried a security wipe with no luck.
I can not find any working links to BlackBerry Playbook support. II have no warranty and do not know how to go about getting this fixed. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Error 4003 is a hardware problem, you can read more of this issue in this thread.
If you are on Koodo, contact your PlayBook support number and initiate an RMA. If they say your device is past warranty, ask for the problem to be fixed, they've fixed it for many and it is a known issue. BlackBerry has been good to replace these devices.

  • Blackberry Playbook Wont show OS 2.0 Update

    Hey you all,
I'm new on the this forum.
Srry for the lack of english its not my native language.
Currently  I got my new Blackberry Playbook, os version 1.0.5.2342.
When I want to update to os 2.0 it just isn't showing it.
That is if I go to the Gear like icon in the top right of the playbook --> software update --> and than Check for Updates.
Its says: You currently have the latest sofware installed.
What could be the problem for this?
I've tryed to reseting the playbook to its original factory settings, but this just deleted all my apps and only shows Browser and Setup.
I also live in Holland but that shouldnt matter or should it?
    Hope someone can help.
    Greeting,
    Oliver

    Try this
    1. Open PB Desktop Manager
    2. Connect PB to PC
    3. Once connection is established go to "Help" should show no updates
    4.  Hard restart PB pressing power button and select "restart"
    5. Once restart has begun Desktop Manager will display a popup window "option to Update" select update
    6. This will take a long time approximate 15-20 minutes while the Original OS is downloading from RIM server
    7. Follow on screen instruction at end
The original factory install will have been restored (all images, videos original games etc) . You need to re-initialize the PB from the start, just as if you just got it home from your store purchase.

  • BlackBerry PlayBook wil not switch on

I can't get my BlackBerry PlayBook to switch on properly. I read a message on the forum which is a few years old:"If you unplug the mains charger, re-insert the charger until the red light goes out for a approx 10-15 times, then when you hold the power on button for approx 15 seconds you get the dead battery symbol, leave the charger inserted, then you get a flashing green-ish LED light, after approx 1-2hrs, it will switch on!!" My PlayBook is coming on to the stage where the BlackBerry PlayBook words are on the screen as shown in the attached picture.  I am not getting a red light going out when I unplug the mains charger and re-inserting it. Please help.

You need to follow these instructions to "debrick" your PlayBook:
    1. With the Desktop Software still open on your computer and the PlayBook powered off, connect the PlayBook to your computer once again.
    2. You should see an error screen from Desktop Software popup with the options to Retry, Update, or Cancel.
Very quickly choose the Update option. If not, press and hold the power button for 20 secs.
    3. All information will on your PlayBook will be erased and a reload of the Software will commence to install on the PlayBook.
    4. Once this is complete your PlayBook will go back through the initial (as if new) setup wizard (entering the BlackBerryID, etc., and then you can perform a restore using Desktop Software to return your personal data from a previous backup. Applications which you downloaded from AppWorld won't restore, but they can be easily reinstalled using AppWorld > MyWorld section of AppWorld.

  • Error when updating Playbook OS version via Blackberry Desktop Manager

    Greeting,
I have a batch of old playbooks which having the stack charging issue, but I found that I can update the OS to the newest version (2.1.0.1917) via Blackberry Desktop Manager, then the charging algorithm will be changed to the updated one and go over this dead battery issue. I was able to do so successfully in the past week smoothly on several devices.
But since this Monday, the Desktop Manager is saying "An updated Blackberry Desktop Software component must be installed before you can continue" when downloading the Desktop software and will appear "There was an error updating your software, an error has occurred while downloading the Blackberry Desktop Software. Please try again." and preventing the process. Seems there are some change on the server side starting this week which has caused this problem, but there's no error code to locate the exact issue.
I tried on 2 different computers as well as completed uninstalling and re-installing the Desktop manager, also tried to disable the automatic update as been advised in some threads. So no clue how to deal with it for now. It will be highly appreciate if some one can share some idea.
I've attached the step by step screenshots for reference, where you can find here:
    http://forums.crackberry.com/blackberry-playbook-f222/error-when-updating-playbook-os-version-via-bl...
    Thanks,

Sorry I can not help you with your problem but perhaps you can help me.
Can you advise where I can find info on "disable the automatic update"?
just ignore the update if you dont want it on the playbook
    for reloading the OS
First I would like you to do a Back Up of your PlayBook using your computer and BlackBerry Desktop Software.
This can be downloaded for free from http://us.blackberry.com/apps-software/desktop/
After the Back Up is complete I need you to unplug your PlayBook and then push and hold down the Power Button until the unit Force Powers Off.
Now, while Desktop Software is still open on your computer and the PlayBook Powered Off, Connect the PlayBook to your computer.
You should see and error screen from Desktop Software pop up that has the options to Retry, Update, or Cancel.
    QUICKLY choose the Update option.
This will erase all the information off of your PlayBook and Re-Write the Software back onto it. Once it's complete your PlayBook will need to go back through the setup wizard, and you can then perform a restore using Desktop Software to return your information. The only thing that won't come back after the restore are the apps that you downloaded from App World but they can be easily Re-Installed using the My World feature in App World.

  • BlackBerry PlayBook and Internet Explorer?

I am a small business owner and Mac user. My business, however, uses a website that works only with Internet Explorer. In the past I have needed to have a small notebook PC in order to access the site and it is time to get a new computer.
I really would like to check out the new BlackBerry PlayBook and will definitely buy one tomorrow (or Tuesday?)  IF it is possible to use IE on it! I really don't want to spend the money for a PC which would be used only for one purpose (I use my iMac for all other computer needs and my BlackBerry 9780 Bold for a phone. Microsoft stopped supporting Macs after version 5 or 6 of IE so that is the ONLY reason I have a PC.)
Oh please please PLEASE tell me that IE will be compatible with the new tablet!?
Anybody know? If not, might as well get an iPad -AND a new notebook PC -AND a new iMac, right?

Do you know why ? There are only two reasons:
either the website uses ActiveX scripts, and in that case you are out of luck
or the webmaster is simply lazy to convert the website to the W3 and ECMA standards, and in that case you can try and convince them. Once that is done, your website will work on any browser including Safari, Opera, MozillaFirefox and InternetExplorer.

  • Forum Mods, Please make this a sticky: BlackBerry PlayBook battery power charge, discharge characteristics, and guidance on extending battery life

BlackBerry PlayBook battery power charge, discharge characteristics, and guidance on extending battery life
    KB27705
    Overview
The BlackBerry PlayBook may come to a power state where it is unable to power on; a Yellow LED may flash in a sequence of 5 flashes, the BlackBerry PlayBook may boot up to the BlackBerry PlayBook Logo and then power off, may not power on at all.
    Discharge behavior under normal use:
Under normal active use, a battery drained to 10% will cause the device to prompt the BlackBerry PlayBook user (notification and audible beep)
Without connecting a charger the device will automatically shut down at 3.53V (0%)
Pressing the power button may allow successful boot, but it will turn off again very quickly
    Discharge behavior under no use:
A device left unused but in ‘Stand By’ will warn the BlackBerry PlayBook user at 10% (notification and audible beep)
The warning may not be noticed and the device will go back to ‘Stand By’
Letting the device drain in standby mode drains the battery slower, but more completely
Device will still shut off at 3.53V (0%), but it less likely to successfully boot afterwards
    Discharge behavior under 3.53V (0%):
If the device is left to shutoff, the battery will continue to drain below 3.53V due to quiescent current draw from the motherboard and the battery fuel gauge
With the battery between 2.7V-3.53V, pressing the power button causes the LED to flash a pattern (1 solid red light followed by 5 yellow blinks)  to indicate low battery (PlayBook Tablet OS version 1.0.5, and above)
Below 2.7V there is no activity, or LED pattern displayed
    Charge Behaviour:
The provided charger should be used to charge the device. The optional 12 volt rapid charger is may reduce charging times
to approximately 3 to 4 hrs. Standard Blackberry smartphone chargers, other AC adapter USB chargers, or computer USB ports
are not recommended for the sole purpose of charging the PlayBook as with these methods it may take more that 12 hours to
    charge the BlackBerry Playbook.
If the battery voltage is below 3.53V(0%) then the charging behaviour is dependent on the software version.  The charging code will limit the charging current to under 400 milliamps, during which time, it may take an hour to reach 3.53 Volts. Once the battery voltage rises past 3.53 volts, then "high-rate" charging will start. If, after charging the Tablet for 4 to 6 hours still does not result in LED activity, attempt to force power on the BlackBerry Playbook by pressing and holding only the Power Button for only 20 seconds.
Prior to BlackBerry Tablet OS 1.0.5:
A BlackBerry PlayBook will never charge while powered off in BlackBerry Tablet OS versions prior to 1.0.5.
The device will show a red light when the charger is connected and then nothing more
Repeated connection of the charger can recover the device in some instances.
Once the battery voltage rises above 3.53V the system will boot and the UI will show charging
Starting in BlackBerry Tablet OS 1.0.5:
The device will show a solid red LED, followed by a solid yellow LED as the device boots into charging mode.  This is followed by a yellow pulsating LED indicating charging in progress.
The time span between the red and yellow lights can be as long as 45 seconds as the device boots into charging mode.
Once the yellow LED illuminates, the device can be started, but it is advisable to let it charge for at least 3.5 hours to achieve a sufficient charge.
The device will show a solid green LED once the device is fully charged.
Starting in BlackBerry Tablet OS 2.0.1:
Once the yellow LED begins pulsating indicating charging mode, if the BlackBerry PlayBook is disconnected from the charger, the following graphic will be displayed on the screen, indicating charging is not complete, and to reconnect the power source. The graphic will be displayed for 20 seconds before the BlackBerry® PlayBook powers off if the power source is not reconnected. The same graphic will also be displayed if the BlackBerry PlayBook is turned on and there is not sufficient power to perform the boot process.
If the BlackBerry PlayBook is plugged into a power source, and the power button is pressed to power on the device, the following graphic will be displayed if there is not sufficient power to perform the boot process. If this occurs, the BlackBerry PlayBook should be left plugged in to gain enough charge to boot.
    Additional Information
Turning off the BlackBerry PlayBook and using standby mode.
Checking the battery power levelOn the status bar, tap the battery icon. When the battery power level is low, the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet will display a notification.
Enter standby modePress the Power button on the top of the BlackBerry PlayBook..
Exit standby modeSwipe down from the top frame to the bottom frame
Turn off the BlackBerry PlayBookPress and hold the Power button. Tap Shut Down.
To extend the BlackBerry PlayBook battery life, charge it regularly, close unused applications and keep the BlackBerry Playbook out of the sun and other hot places. The following may also be used to extend battery life:
Dim the screenOn the status bar, tap the Options icon (a gear), select the Screen tab and change the Brightness setting
Turn off the screen automaticallyOn the status bar, tap the Options icon, select the Screen tab and change the Backlight Time-out field
Enter standby mode automaticallyOn the status bar, tap the Options icon, select the Screen tab and change the Standby Time-out field
Turn off Wi-Fi when not in useOn the status bar, tap the Wireless icon and set the Wi-Fi switch to Off
Turn off Bluetooth connectivity when not in use
On the status bar, tap the Bluetooth icon and set the Bluetooth switch to Off
Pause apps when you show the home screen or switch between apps  On the status bar, tap the Options icon, select the General tab and set the Application Behavior switch to Paused
With the upgrade to PlayBook OS 2.1.0.1032 the following message may be displayed when connecting the Playbook to a PC using the micro-USB cable:
Unable to charge battery with connected source
This message is displayed because the voltage provided is insufficient for charging. The USB voltage is limited to 384mA even if the maximum tolerance is 500mA. The voltage is limited to 384mA by design to avoid violating the USB specification which states USB devices cannot draw more than 500mA from the USB port.

  • Adobe Reader for the BlackBerry PlayBook Showstopping Issue: App does not start

    Hello;
I would like to report an issue with the Adobe Reader app for the BlackBerry PlayBook which renders the application fully unusable. This issue occurs everytime. This issue has been tested and verified to occur in two distinct BlackBerry PlayBook devices.
Here is a screenshot stating what version (10.0.3.325) of the Adobe Reader app I have installed:
This, I understand, is the latest version for my platform. Unfortunately, the application does not start. Attempting to run it results in a blank screen after showing the BlackBerry logo. The blank screen can be seen in the following screenshot:
It is also strange that the application does not appear in the Application Permissions list, as seen in the following screenshot:
Is there a fix for this showstopping issue? What steps should I take?

Same issue here.  Playbook support knows about it, and referred to Adobe.  The Adobe forum has this comment.  Looks like our Playbooks are abandoned as a platform.
    "Mar 4, 2012 7:20 PM
As the tablet market continues to evolve, we continue to evaluate how to best support the market and where to focus on our resources. Because of this,  Adobe has decided to end its support of the  RIM QNX Playbook devices in March 2012.  This means the ability to create new applications for submission to the RIM store will no longer be possible in Adobe Viewer Builder as well as the ability to rebuild existing targets for new releases of Digital Publishing Suite. Any existing QNX targets will be removed from the manage view inside Viewer Builder".

  • Blackberry playbook

why is it that skype does not work on the blackberry playbook? i have tried logging into skype through www.imo.com i actually get logged in but i am unable to make any calls or video calls. can someone help me, please, i have tried to get help from blackberry, but no luck. thank you.

No problem. Regarding an alternative tablet, I'd suggest going the Android route. Lots of flexibility and customization, plus of course apps are actually supported. The Nexus line might be a good choice, plus they get pure Android updates directly from the source. Even the 2012 Nexus 7 has the latest version of Android available OTA (Lollipop).
Flash on Android isn't officially supported but there's usually "an app for that", and there are workarounds to get Flash to work (albeit an outdated 11.x version, similar to the PB). For radio, you could use the TuneIn app and add your streams there. I can't comment on iPads/minis, but they'd probably do what you want them to, as well.
Speaking of apps, if you find Flash continues to be finicky on the PB for radio streaming, you could give Nobex a try. Not sure how many stations it has, but I remember it being one of the better apps on the PB when I used it.

I'm having issues pairing my device (9320) with my new Blackberry Playbook. The software on my phone is 7.1 Bundle 2039. I can pair both devices together through Blackberry Bridge but it shows that I've recieved new emails but doesnt let me open them.
I paired the Playbook with a friends phone (9360) which operates on a different system 7.1 Bundle 1133. And this works fine and we can access the emails and the device and playbook work fine.
Can I get the same software on my 9320 or any other suggestions please?

  • BlackBerry playbook operating system.

    Good afternoon,
I have recently purchased a blackberry playbook 32gb with operating system 2.0.1.358.
My wife also owns a playbook 16gb with operating system 2.0.1.668.
When I check for system updates I am advised both via the playbook and when connected to a computer that my playbook is up to date and no update is available.
Can I assume that the operating system is dependent on the gb?
    Any advice would be appreciated.

No. The OS version for the Playbooks are the same across the board, regardless of memory size.
The .668 update was pulled from the servers a few days after the upgrade was released. It has not be been put back or replace, as noted in this other thread, here, on the same topic.
