My mac book has been stuck on software update all night. Am I allowed to manually shut it down?

Yes, you won't be arrested for shutting it down. Depending on what was being updated, the machine may or may not start up properly (or at all) afterward. If it doesn't, post back for advice.

If BlackBerry Desktop Software is not recognizing your phone, you're really out of luck; it's imperative that BDS connects to your phone.
RIM has this to say about getting your phone to connect to BDS:

    I hope that helps you.

  • Blackberry Bold 9900 OS software update from version 7.0.0 to version 7.1.0

    Helo Everyone
I tried to upgrade my Blackberry Bold 9900 device software from version 7.0.0 to version 7.1.0 but having difficulties. I tried using the Blackberry Desktop Manager but there was no version 7.1.0 listed among the available updates. Even when I tried to do it directly via the Blackberry official website, Version 7.1.0 was also not listed. Finally I tried to do the update with my phone directly by accessing: Options>Device>Software Updates.
It displayed my Current Version of 7.0.0 Bundle 2406 and an available version 7.1.0 Bundle 1149. But when I Clicked Perform Update to download the new version it showed preparing to download but then displayed an error message such as "The download cannot continue because your device cannot connect to the update server using any of the following methods:Wi-Fi".
Meanwhile, I did not perform the upgrade with Wi-Fi because I have an active blackberry data subscrip of 2GB from my mobile network provider.
Please I need help on how to perform the upgrade from version 7.0.0 to version 7.1.0 with the latest Bundle.
Thank you all as i await your kind solution.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
The simplest way is to, on a PC (you cannot do this on MAC):
    1) Make sure you have a current and complete backup of your BB...you can find complete instructions via the link in my auto-sig below.
    2) Uninstall, from your PC, any BB OS packages
    3) Make sure you have the BB Desktop Software already installed
    http://us.blackberry.com/software/desktop.html
    4) Download and install, to your PC, the BB OS package you desire:
    http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
It is sorted first by carrier -- so if all you want are the OS levels your carrier supports, your search will be quick. However, some carriers are much slower than others to release updates. To truly seek out the most up-to-date OS package for your BB, you must dig through and find all carriers that support your specific model BB, and then compare the OS levels that they support.
    5) Delete, on your PC, all copies of VENDOR.XML...there will be at least one, and perhaps 2, and they will be located in or similarly to (it changes based on your Windows version) these folders:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
    C:\Users\(your Windows UserName)\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
6a) For changing your installed BB OS level (upgrade or downgrade), you can launch the Desktop Software and connect your BB...the software should offer you the OS package you installed to your PC.
6b) Or, for reloading your currently installed BB OS level as well as for changing it, bypass the Desktop Software and use LOADER.EXE directly, by proceeding to step 2 in this process:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Device-Software/How-To-Reload-Your-Operating-Syste...
Note that while written for "reload" and the Storm, it can be used to upgrade, downgrade, or reload any BB device model -- it all depends on the OS package you download and install to your PC.
If, during the processes of 6a or 6b, your BB presents a "507" error, simply unplug the USB cord from the BB and re-insert it...don't do anything else...this should allow the install to continue.
If you are on MAC, you are limited to only your carriers sanctioned OS packages...but can still use any levels that they currently sanction. See this procedure:

  • Macbook Pro stuck on software update

I haven't done Software Update for awhile (maybe weeks), so I finally decided to update my Macbook Pro (2011 & running Snow Leopard). There were a lot of things to update as it said it was installing 15 items. The progression bar is mostly full and it is almost finished - probably the equivalent of around 98% done - but it has been stuck there for about 2 hours.
I don't think it's crashed since there's not the rainbow ball spinning just the pointed arrow, and it says it is "Running package scripts" underneath the download bar. If I also recall correctly, I remember reading something about an EFI firmware update before I clicked 'Install and Restart' to update.
Should I force reboot or wait it out? I personally don't think it's going to go anywhere waiting it out, but I also don't want to potentially distort any memory or anything if that is possible.

  • HT1296 Phone stuck on software update screen

I tried doing a software update on my iphone 4s but now its stuck on the loading update screen. It won't finish loading, won't sync to the computer. I've tried several hard resets. Nothing works. I have pics of my baby i dont want to lose. Is there anything I can do to save my pics?

If the device does not continue it is sometimes indicative of some kind of interruption durring the update. If you have a backup the information should be safe... If not you may want to google software that can remove information from your device when it is in this state.
    Hope this helps!

  • Macbook is stuck on software update

I have a MacBook Pro and I had done a software update but it is stuck on updating it's been like this for two days. Is there anything I can do? I've shut it down with the power button but once it's turning on again it attempts the software update again.

Care to share which OS you are using?
    Which update did you do?

  • New Q10 stuck on Software Update Screen

I've just got a brand new Q10, turned it on and started going through the setup screens, but it's stuck on the software update screen. It'll check for updates for a few minutes and then display a message saying it can't reach the update server and direct me back to wifi setup. It's staying connected to my wifi network, which is stable and has a strong signal, but still has been unable to connect. I've tried rebooting several times by turning it off and back on, and done several battery pulls, but it continues to take me straight back to that screen and starts the whole frustrating process again.
    Please help!

I recommend trying again tomorrow... or Monday
it's late right now and the servers might be down for maintenance.
10.2 is slowly rolling out and the servers may be busy right now

  • Brand new imac stuck in software updates

Help! My brand new imac seems to be stuck in the middle of software updates - what can I do?

OK - I did solve this - I restarted the the computer in safe mode (Hold the Cmd and R keys) ran the disk repair to make sure all was well, then restarted and re-did the software  update. This time it installed fine.

  • Stuck in Software Update Loop

So When I try to do a software update for ¨Mac Pro EFI Firmware Update Version 1.2¨and ¨Security Update 2007-009 (universal) version 1.1¨it asks me to restart. I do. Then it says I need to shut down. After turning on the computer again, I find that the updates were not installed. Same thing happens every time. I also tried upgrading to leopard. It just doesn´t seem to boot from the cd. Please help!

Apparently, SU is choking on the installation part. The shutdown message indicates, at least to me, a failed update. Manually download them (link at page's top), and then install them.

  • Stuck On Software Update!

I'm trying to install the new software update. Everything was fine until a pop up window asked me to quit itunes so system could continue with update. I quit itunes (clicked on the red x in left corner of page) but the system doesn't recognize the fact that I quit. It keeps asking me to quit and now it won't finish the update and the window keeps coming up with "quit itunes to continue update." I can't even shut off my computer because it's in update mode. What do I do now?

Actually, just clicking the upper left red button only closes the window, it doesn't quit the program (unlike windows machines). To quit, you need to first bring this application to the forefront (click on it's icon in the dock, for instance), then choose "quit" from the first pull down menu item (right of the blue apple), or press command (the apple key, beside the space bar) and "Q" .

  • IPhone stuck during software update, in airplane mode

    HINT:
Make sure you are not in airplane mode when performing an iPhone software update. If you do, then you will get an iTunes alert saying ...
"The iPhone "(name of iPhone)" cannot be used with iTunes because the information required for activation could not be obtained from the iPhone. Check that the SIM card is inserted in your iPhone and that it is not PIN-locked."
To get out of airplane mode: slide the emergency call slide, punch in any number, hit CALL, an alert will pop up asking you to turn off airplane mode, .....
    NOTE:
Apple could eliminate this problem by (1) blocking all incoming calls during syncs and updates and (2) checking to see if the phone is in airplane mode before allowing an update to occur.

Thank you! Thank you! I was about to spend forever on hold for Apple support to help get me out of airplane mode! I forgot I was in airplane mode when I started updating the phone to 2.1.
Thanks so much for saving me a needless call!
