Blackberry's automatic delivery notification encourages spam mail.

To anyone who is listening, please either disable the Blackberry's automatic delivery notification, or give us Blackberry users the option to change it to manual delivery notification requiring our approval before delivery notification is sent.
Spammers harvest the email addresses and the automatic delivery notification tells them that they sent spam to a good/valid address.
My wife and I both noticed that since we started using the Blackberry, the number of spam mail has progressively increased.  Today, I discovered why.  I noticed in the sent mail log, that the Blackberry is sending out delivery notification automatically each time an email is opened/read.  A lot of times, I can't figure out if something is junk until I open up the email.  That's when the Blackberry sends delivery notification.  Sure, the spammers request delivery notification, that's how they can confirm whether their junk mail reached the intended party.  And thus, they harvested a valid email address that they use for the next spam mail.  The Blackberry makes it too easy for the spammer to validate a good delivery email address, and for mail that's being forwarded from a "disposable address" to my real address, now the spammers get to harvest my real email address when the Blackberry includes it in their delivery notification.
So please, please disable the automatic delivery notification.  Let me decide who I will send delivery notification.
Thank you in advance!

On BIS, I don't think there is a way; on BES your BES Admin can do this.
Please also read my post above.

    Hi folks.
We have a Collab 10.1.2.3 installed and working properly. One thing is anoying me since the implementation: I receive all mail delivery notifications from all users, and I do not want to receive notifications that I did not ask for.
    How can I achieve this?

At least partially for DSN's - could you please check up the docs on that ? Redirect them to postmaster - and for those that you really didn't want (which is hard to judge - e.g. on not-remote site availability 4.2.1's. 4.5.1's ) invent a server-side-rule via OCFO/Webmail/WAC. See plaintext for mail source, e.g. Thunderbirds/Mozilla CTRL+U on a msg.

  • On Mountain Lion getting a notifications open my Mail automatically. I don't use Mail.

I just upgraded to Mountain Lion. I use Thunderbird for my mail. I don't use the Mail program at all, and have my accounts disabled, but when I get a notification in the Notifications app my Mail program opens up on it's own and has drafts of my Calendar entries that showed on the notifications. Very strange and annoying. How do I get this behavior to stop?
    Thanks

    Howard,
I've been annoyed by this one as well. I finally found a solution that seems to prevent Mail from opening on it's own:
For me, it was my Google Calender (synched) alerts opening up Mail, so I fired up Calendar, selected by Google-synched calendar, selected "Get Info" and then checked the "Ignore Alerts" box.
I doubt I'll see things in Notification Center now but it's way better than the duplicate email notifications I've been experiencing.

  • Delivery notification for messages i did not send

I have been receiving delivery notification from the [email protected] about email messages that I never sent from my mac.com account.  They are either delayed or failed.
I understand that a spoof/spam is sending these messages with my email address as the from.
I am receiving 8-12 messages a day now and it has been going on for three weeks now.
I did read some similar questions but there seemed to be no answers on how to stop it other than install a junk mail application to filter all the messages we receive from the post master.  This doesn't stop the the messages from being sent.
I don't want to have to change my email address which many people and systems have.
    Is there a solution?
    thank you
    Julie

There isn't really anything you can do about it. As you have observed, your address is being forged on messages sent by someone else, so it's not a case of messages being sent from your account. I'm afraid there is nothing whatever you can do to stop this, which is infuriating but is unfortunately the case. However it usually stops after a bit as they move on to another victim.

  • Configuring automatic email notification in P6 EPPM?

Please help to figure out, how to configure the P6 EPPM system that user would get automatic notification via e-mail when some important activity is started. For example - project which consist of 5 activities and when the 5th activity is starting user should get an automatic notification to his/her e-mail.
Similar question only different trigger: defined time period before planned project end. For example, 10 days before end: if project has started on January 1st, 2010 and has planned finish date on February 20th, 2010 - I would like to get an automatic notification via email *10 days before the deadline* (on February 10th, 2010).

You can do this using P6 v7 eventing IF you use the webclient to mark your activity as started. will be more than happy to share how to do that if that is the case..

  • Spam mails are not deleted from the spam folder

In the account settings, I have set the spam mail to be automatically deleted after one day. In spite of that, spam mail in the spam folder is not automatically deleted at any time, even if I restart Thunderbird. In the end, I always have to clean the spam folder manually.

    Thanks for your quick answers!
I realized that I didn't select the option 'enable adaptive junk mail controls for this account', but, even selecting it, the junk mails are not automatically cleaned. I tried restarting Thunderbird, restarting the computer, and even manually changing the date and restarting Thunderbird, but nothing worked.
I checked the entries in the advanced configuration, and they are all correct.
My aim, as it was with the other problem I posted, is just to help to improve the development of Thunderbird by pointing the bugs. But they are actually really minor issues and not a real problem for me. So don't worry if the problem is not finally solved.
    And thanks again!

I'd like the "Delivery Notification: Message has been delayed/failed/etc" to not be generated. I think there's a setting in imta.cnf for this but am wary of the syntax. Can anyone advise what the line should look like?

You could prevent notification/disposition emails by using the notificationchannel/dispositionchannel keyword:
    http://msg.wikidoc.info/index.php/Dispositionchannel%2C_notificationchannel_Channel_Options
This allows you to change the source channel of these emails. Then by adding a 'discard;' sieve sourcefilter to this new process channel, the emails should be dropped.
"defaults notices 1 2 4 7 logging copywarnpost copysendpost postheadonly noswitchchannel immnonurgent maxjobs 7 defaulthost blah.com blah.com"The copywarnpost and copysendpost are the keywords used to control the behaviour of sending a copy of the bounce/notification message to the postmaster. It doesn't control whether the original bounce/notification message is created. If you don't care about these postmaster copies you can disable them by replacing copysendpost with nosendpost and copywarnpost with nowarnpost.

  • Lot of SPAM mails in queue - Warnings from ISP

    Hi Jay,Shane and ALL,
We are running messaging on Solaris 10 with below version.
Sun Java(tm) System Messaging Server 6.2-7.05 (built Sep 5 2006)
    libimta.so 6.2-7.05 (built 12:18:44, Sep 5 2006)
Insured that no entries added to mappings (except localhost) and only "authenticated SMTP" allowed.
We implemented Separate AV/anti-spam box with aliasdetour and conversion channel which is working fine.
we could achieve >95% spam control but recently we started receiving warnings from ISP that SPAM being sent out from our mail server.

Wondering how these mails exist in tcp_local queue wherein none of IPs (or users) allowed to relay through our servers.
Pl help me resolve this issue.
    TIA

    Thanks Shane.
    Pl find my below answers:
    Hi,
You need to track down the source of the emails by
locating the relevant mail.log lines that correspond
to the email delivery attempt. This will at least
tell you how they are getting in (whether the email
    is coming in via the
    tcp_local/tcp_auth/tcp_submit/tcp_intranet channel
    etc.).07-Sep-2007 19:13:44.02 tcp_auth tcp_local EA 3 [email protected] rfc822;[email protected] [email protected] User ([210.70.82.129])

    >
From there you can determine (if you have enough
    logging enabled such as LOG_USERNAME=1,
    LOG_CONNECTION=1, LOG_MESSAGE_ID=1) why they emails
are being allowed through... After enabling the three parameters (option.dat and did cnbuild/restart),
i noticed lot of such entries in mail.log_current:
    10-Sep-2007 00:04:28.59 tcp_local Q 2 [email protected] rfc822;[email protected] [email protected] <0JO400CPG2A15F00@webmail.<our-domain>.com> *admin@<our-domain>.com mailin.binghamton.edu dns;mailin.binghamton.edu (TCP|192.168.1.41|34548|128.226.7.23|25) (mail2.binghamton.edu ESMTP [7e5e6797de0c707331914caad1b54f2f]) smtp;450 <[email protected]>: Sender address rejected: Domain not found [email protected]: smtp;450 <alert@bancamerica.
    I have seen cases of:
-> Incorrect mapping rules (so tcp_local->tcp_local
    relaying was broken)
-> Overly large 'internal' IP mappings (so
tcp_intranet was the source channel)My Mappings file:
