BlackBerry Storm and Macs

I recently purchased a BlackBerry Storm and I had some questions about it working with my Mac. I noticed in the support pages that I would have to update my OSx 4.5 to OSX 5.0 or something higher in order to use the software to be able to get my Itunes on my BlackBerry. I am willing to do that. It's not that expensive but I want to know that if I do that, will that take care of some issues I am having. Pocket Mac does not work for me. If I run OSX 5.5 and above will that take care of the problem and allow me to sync my Mac and BlackBerry? Will I be able to run the program that allows me to put my ITunes on my BlackBerry? Right now I am running version 10.4.11 on a Power Book G4.
I love the phone and am still getting used to it and all the features.
Thanks in advance for answering my questions.

Paid for iTunes will not (those purchased iTunes). You can remove the DRM from the purchased iTunes and they will work fine on the BB.

  • I got it. Syncing Blackberry Storm using Mac with Missing Sync

I just bought my Storm Sat and have been trying to sync for days. I have a IBOOK G4 running the latest TIGER OS. I read all you guys post and I think it all helped a lot. Im a new BB user so it took me awhile to figure the phone. Ok, so anyway to the good stuff. As mentioned I followed some of the other threads, installing Pocket Mac and the updated driver. Uninstalling and re-installing. Taking the battery out and all that. None of that worked for me either like some of you. Keep getting the error message. So, I broke down and bought Missing Sync. Still wouldn't work. So, tonight I uninstalled PocketMac and deleted all files associated with off my Mac. Then I brought Missing Sync up on my Mac. On your Storm go to Options then Memory. Click on Mass Storage Mode Support select On. Then when you see Auto Enable Mass Storage Mode I selected Prompt or you could do Yes. Save Changes. Then go to Missing Sync just set what your preferences are for sync and click Sync. Boom- you are good to go.
This is what I did. It sync my Itunes and IPhoto and everything else. So, now Im at piece. Hope this will help someone. To everyone else thanks for your ideas cause it did help me with my dilemma, so I guess I will keep the Storm.

i managed to get both music and pictures onto my storm from my macbook, and from my storm to my macbook.
i had to go into options on the storm, then memory, then to "prompt" for auto enable mass storage mode when connected.
then i disconnected and re-connected the usb with pocketmac open on my macbook and it started synching. at first it synched everything BUT my music and photos. then i noticed when i plugged the usb back into my storm once more, two seperate blackberry harddrives appeared on my desktop, Blackberry1 and Blackberry2. I went into Blackberry1, then to the folder "home", then to the folder "user", then to the folders "music" and "photos" and just clicked and dragged music from my itunes library and photo library into those folders. then I tested it to make sure it worked. sounds great on the storm! it has to be done into the folders on Blackberry1 though, i tried it with Blackberry2 and even though it has the same folder names, when i tried to play the music i had dragged and dropped said it was an incompatible format. it's not the format, it's just the wrong drive.
hope this helps someone out, it worked for me!

  • Blackberry Bluetooth and Macs don't mix

One of the best features I had with a Nokia smartphone was how effortlessly it would sync with my bluetooth macintosh using iSync.  Just absolutely painless.
The Blackberry Pearl has bluetooth -- but it won't communicate with a Mac with either Missing Sync or PocketMac.   This seems such a natural fit (yes, even if one is supposed to use USB to keep the BB charged).
RIM -- there is so much potential here.   Please don't let the opportunity go by.

Its true, Bluetooth communication with Pocketmac and BlackBerry isn't currently supported.   As you say, it'd be nice if that'd change in the future.   Honestly, I'd be suprised if it didn't.
I have talked with Mac users who have had sucess transfering thier Address book to the Mac, but bidirectional communication generally dosn't work.

  • Blackberry 8330 and Mac Ical

Can anyone explain to me what I am doing wrong.  I cannot get Blackberry desktop manager on  a mac to populate my ICAL application on my mac with the events from my blackberry calendar.  It used to work fine with PocketMac, except it often doubled up all of the events.
I select the calendar I would like to be synced, It says it is done, no errors. but my ICAL never gets any of the dates.  I am debating going back to pocketmac, even though it often doubles up all my contacts often.
IS this just an issue b/c I have an 8330, and its an older model BB?  I love my BB but I am in real estate and need my contacts and calendar to be synced throughout all my devices
If you can help I would greatly appreciate it.
    Josh

My client is having precisely the same problem with the Blackberry 8330. She can't get calendar events that have been created or added on the Blackberry device to sync to iCal. It seems that calendar events created in iCal on her computer to sync to her Blackberry device properly.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thank you!

  • Blackberry bold and mac

im using a blackberry bold 9000 and a mac laptop, i used to be able to sync all my data but i upgraded my bb tru windows. after that i can't sync the bb to my mac already. pls help. what will i do?

    Hi kiwiinvan,
Could you please try the steps listed below in order to resolve your issue:
    - Try rebooting your Mac and ensure that you log in with an account that has full admin rights.
    - Open iTunes on your Mac and accept any license agreements if prompted.  Also please ensure that you have at least one playlist in iTunes with at least one song in it.  This is required in order for PocketMac to function properly.
    - Make sure you don't have any other sync software installed on your Mac such as Missing Sync or Blackberry Media Sync etc.
    - Try repairing disk permissions by going to Macintosh HD\Applications\Utilities\ and running the Disk Utility application.  Select the Macintosh HD and click Repair Disk Permissions. This process may take a few minutes.  After repairing disk permissions, try synching again.
    - If fixing disk permissions doesn't work, can you try synching one PIM database at a time e.g. just Contacts by itself?  This will determine if the issue is being caused by a particular database.  If you find that you are getting the message on one database only, we would recommend clearing the affected database on the device using the Data Purge utilty and then clearing the sync history on the Mac using Sync Clean.  Please note, this will delete all the entries on your Blackberry, however once the entries on your device have been deleted, you can reimport the data from your Mac back to your device.  To run Data Purge and Sync Clean, please follow the steps 1 and 2 listed in the article below:
    http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB10501
After you complete these steps, please configure PocketMac to do a one way sync from the Mac to the BlackBerry (choose the overwrite device option in Advanced Preferences).  If the sync is successful, reconfigure PocketMac back to doing a 2-way sync.
Please let us know if this works for you or if you have any questions or issues!

  • Storm and Mac Not Syncing

I'm not sure what the trouble is, but I can not get the Storm to sync with the BDTM for Mac software.  I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling to no avail.  During the stup wizard, the sofware detects the Storm, lists the PIN, and proceeds to the screen to choose what to sync.  When there, it shows not connected for the BB no matter how many times I try disconnecting and reconnecting.  The filesystems do mount just fine (two different ones, one for the internal and one for the removable memory I guess).  Any ideas?

Please provide pertinent information...device OS, Mac OS..what options are you using in DM?  Are you using (or have you ever used) any other sync software?
Have you tried to forget device (under the drop down Device option) and start over? Have you done a battery pull?

  • BlackBerry Messenger and Mac

My Father has a blackberry and he sent me a link to download the blackberry messenger so we can talk via my computer and his blackberry, but you can only download it with internet explorer, and I don't have that on my Mac, obviously, so does anyone know any other way to get that same program, or one that will work, on my computer?

Maybe I'm not understanding this correctly but from what I get Blackberry Messenger is a IM client for the phone itself and not a chat client for the computer. You however will need IE on Windows because it uses Active-X controls.
Your Father should be able to install it directly to the Blackberry (by choosing the correct client you want to use as a chat platform ie. Yahoo, Google Talk, AOL etc.).
At least that's what I understand it to be. It's for his phone. You shouldn't have to download anything unless you want to use a chat client you don't already have.
Correct me if I'm wrong though.

  • The Future of BlackBerry Support for Mac

I'm sure I'm speaking for a number of people who use BlackBerry products and Mac computers when I ask: what are RIM's plans for Mac support with the upcoming BlackBerry 6 OS and the next generation of smartphones?
Currently, Mac users are effectively second-class citizens:
    1. We cannot upgrade the OS on our BlackBerry smartphones without using someone else's computer, which would also need to run Windows. Failing that we would need to purchase OS emulation software, just for the purpose of using our phones like Windows users.
    2. Mac users have limited interoperability with the Sync software we were given: contacts still get doubled-up, calendars get lost or deleted.
In light of the fact that your main competitor, Apple, offers a similar product with seamless integration with both Mac and Windows computers, it begs for something suitably robust. In my opinion, anything short of this borders on ineptitude or contempt.
My provider's contract for my Bold will run out soon, at which time I will have to reconsider which product I continue with: BlackBerry or Apple. The answer to this depends on what RIM/BlackBerry has in development. I look forward to hearing some feedback about the future of Mac support.

Yeah, I not only feel that the Mac support sucks, but I'm really upset that we were misled. We were promised support that never materialized. I might investigate whether there are grounds to bring a class action suit against RIM and/or T-Mobile and other carriers who misrepresented this phone.
At the time I got my BlackBerry, it was a toss-up between it and an iPhone. The iPhone would have cost a lot more and required switching providers, but I wasn't too happy with T-Mobile, and I'm not any happier now. And when I consider all the time I've wasted trying to fix things, I'd have much rather just spent the money and gotten something that worked.
The BlackBerry was basically me giving T-Mobile one last chance to provide me with an acceptable level of service by providing a better quality phone, and I have to admit that the sound quality and reception were somewhat better than they had been on the Motorola it replaced, but now the Bluetooth radio has died--as they so often do, apparently--and it's out of warranty, so it's pretty much useless to me now.
The only problem is that I agreed to a 2-year contract extension when I got the Blackberry. I'm wondering what they'll say when I tell them they can have the **bleep** thing back. If they won't warranty them to the end of the contract extension, that seems like a reasonable recourse.

  • Question on Palm 500 and BlackBerry Storm--please help!

Hi, I'm not sure where to post this, but here is my story.
For several years, I've had a Palm 500.
I believe, when I purchasedit,I had to choose to Hot Sync between either my PC at home or my Mac at work. I chose to Hot Sync at home and that was an error because I was mostly using it for work. In time, I got tired of tapping everything in with the stylus and mostly use it as an address book now, even though I have $hundreds in third-party apps going unused.
Recently, I’ve been considering buying a BlackBerry Storm. I don’t really plan to use it on the Net but Verizon says I have to pay $30 a month just for web fees or I can’t get that phone. My husband says there is a way nowadays to HotSync to both a PC and a Mac. Or at least for me to hook up the Palm 500 to the Mac at work and be able to use iCal etc. there.
If I choose to buy the BlackBerry he says I can transfer all my Palm data to the BB.
Can anyone tell me: 1. Is any of this true? 2. If I stay with the Palm how do I get the necessary hardware/software for my iMac? 3. Should I just deep-six the Palm 500 because it’s so old?
I really need some kind of organization software/device because deadlines are piling up and I’m gonna get in trouble on my job!
    Thanks!!!
    Post relates to: Palm m500

Hi, and welcome to the Palm Community Forums.
You always had the ability to sync with two different desktops, even of different platforms.  This Palm Knowledgebase Article discusses how to Hotsync one device on two different desktops:
    http://tinyurl.com/kq4c5
The Mac hotsync software is downloadable from the support/download site linked above if you don't have your original installation disc.  Just be sure you pay heed to the article's instructions about only using ONE desktop for full 2-way sync, using the second desktop for one-way sync (Handheld Overwrites Desktop) as a clone of the other.
As for the BB Storm, I am unfamiliar with it but it looks like you would probably have to sync with M$ Outlook or some other organizer app which is compatible with the Blackberry Desktop software (suggest you peruse the BB site for info).  If you don't already sync with Outlook, you would have to migrate your data from Palm Desktop to Outlook.  You can do that but you might need your original installation disc.  I'm not sure whether the m500 came with Outlook conduits or Chapura Pocket Mirror to sync with Outlook...and I'm just a little bit frustrated right now trying to find stuff on the newly redesigned web site to be able to point you to the right answer on that.
Whether to deep-six the m500 or not is a tough one.  Palm's handheld PDA business is pretty much a goner...no new stand-alone PDAs are planned, and the "current" models (TX, E2 and Z22) now seem to be at the end of their production life.  So it seems that whatever is still out there in the supply stream (like www.amazon.com where you can get a new TX for something like $270) is probably about it. Your m500 is already a dinosaur, and parts will get harder to come by.  But if you like the stand-alone PDA it seems that now would be the time to get a replacement for your m500.  Their speed, display resolution and other capabilities are far superior to your m500.

  • Thinking About a Blackberry Storm - How Well Will it Sync w/Mac?

The Verizon rep tells me that the BB Storm will sync flawlessly with everything Mac; iCal, Mail, Notes, ToDo's, etc. He says that Packet Mac is fully supported by Blackberry & that I won't have issue. So is he blowing smoke or will I truly be happy???

PocketMac worked great for three weeks for my new BB Storm. Now I have serious sync issues with AddressBook. Apple, Blackberry, RIM, and PocketMac could not help resolve the Issue. PocketMac Tech Support is via Email only. Not very encouraging.
I did see "Missing Sync" software website that is $40. After 10 plus hrs. of work, I'm giving up.

  • Pocketmac and the 9530 Blackberry Storm

I need to sync my new blackberry to my new Mac computer. I downloaded the latest Pocketmac but it will not sync my Blackberry and Mac. I have uninstalled and reinstalled. The 9530 is fairly new. Does anyone know if the Pocketmac is not able to sync the phone because it is so new??? Any help is appreciated!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Hello to All! I used the BB Storm for a month then switched to the Curve, and unfortunately Pocketmac just does not work! Traveled from You tube to Crackberry and now blackberry support groups and communities... same questions, same problems and no solution. (Aaaargh!) So far the only way for me to sync calendars is thru google calendar.  (Contacts/Address books works just fine syncing w pocketmac except  calendars which i need of course..) - I've heard and seen threads suggesting Missing Sync...I might just do that or by some miracle you guys make it work... pleezzz let me know. For now, it's a Friday night, going out with my girl friends beer on my left and my BB on my right hand! hehehe! Cheers to all!

  • Hi my blackberry storm is out of charge and has turned o...

Hi my blackberry storm is out of charge and has turned off.
I only have the USB cable to connect it to my laptop. Can I charge it via my laptop by connecting this cable.
I would appreciate your urgent help.

    Hi!
If you have already installed the BB USB drivers on your PC, then yes you can charge via USB. If you have not installed them, you can obtain them here:
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/desktop/
For charging only, you don't need the entire desktop software suite...just the USB drivers alone is enough for charging via USB.
