BlackBerry to bring back function keys to win back former fans
BlackBerry Ltd. is seeking to win back once-devoted customers by bringing back a popular set of command keys that the company had abandoned with the launch of a new family of smartphones this past year.
Sources familiar with the company say chief executive officer John Chen will announce Tuesday at a mobile industry conference in Barcelona that the Waterloo, Ont.-based company will restore its trademark “belt” of five function keys that sat between the screen and keyboard.
This includes a trackpad and other keys that allowed users to easily navigate between different applications. The belt will appear later this year on phones powered by the BlackBerry 10 operating system.
A company spokesman declined to confirm the announcement. In a recent interview, to be published later this week in Report on Business Magazine, Mr. Chen said that future BlackBerry 10 smartphones “will have some of the features our power-users love” but were not included on the first phones launched a year ago on the platform, the all-touchscreen Z10 and the Q10, which features both a keyboard and touchscreen.

Back Function key is not working

I have created report programing. and also add buttons to application tool bar using transaction 'SE41'.
But in this case whenever I run program and click on Back.it is asking me to populate fields.
Even after populating fields and clicking Back wont take me to BACK screen...
It is asking for 'Put cusron on selection'..
Back is standard tool bar even why it is not working.
I set status as below.

in 'standard' status for 'back' icon have add &f03 as function key ,check it first.
and then in the initialization write the code 'set pf-status 'standard'.
and under start-of-selection.
write set pf status space.(it will enables all the standard buttons back,cancle,exit...).
now if u click on back it should wor.
try it once.
if u have created a button for back and assigned say 'back' code for that, then go like this.
start of selection.
case sy-ucomm.
if sy-ucomm = 'BACK'.
LEAVE LIST PROCESSING.

I have mozilla on Mac os x for about 8 months. The "Back" function, to go back on a previous page doesn't work, the "Back" arrow remains grey coloured, so it can't be pressed like when it's black coloured. It gets you tired to reopen pages all the time. WHY does this happen?

Fn and function keys config falls back to "default"

Hello, I own Thinkpad E531 laptop with Windows 10 and the problem I have is that after restart the configuration falls back to so-called "default" instead of staying on legacy mode.Any ideas what may cause this problem? (Perhaps Windows 10 was a bad idea, since it apparently favours its default settings very much.)

Open System Preferences, go to the Keyboard & Mouse panel, and check the box "Use the F1-F12 keys to control software features".

IPad Mini paired with bluetooth keyboard - periodically losing all Function keys

I'm listening to the Mini, unplugged from power, with headphones, and the bluetooth keyboard connected. When playing music using either the IOS Music app, or Pandora, I am periodically losing the keyboard Function keys (brightness, track back, play/pause, track forward, mute, and volume up and down). Yet all other keyboard functions keep working -- I'm able to type email messages even though the Function keys are not working.
I have not found the exact combination of activities that causes the Function keys to stop working. I've tried using only Pandora, or only Music, letting the screen sleep, wake it back up with different methods. I can't break it at will, but eventually it does stop working. A power off and reboot of the iPad restores functionality.
Has anyone seen a bug of this type reported yet?

Hello Damyanology,
If your enter key is not working but you have to use it, you can bring up the on screen keyboard, and that will allow you to use enter.
Here is a link to open the on screen keyboard.
Go into device manager and uninstall the keyboard and restart the computer. This should reinstall the driver to correct the problem.

New keyboard, function keys have changed, how to get standard functions back?

Hi, I recently just bought a new keyboard with numerics and when i hook it up, all my function keys are different. F12 now shows me the date and time/calculator. F11 scoots my open boxes do the side.
how do i get it back to the standard functions? ie, F1-F2 controling brightness, F10,11 and 12 controling sound.

Is this a new Apple wired keyboard? Perhaps model MB110LL/B?

How To use the going back function in Safari (multitouch)? Going back on Websites ist only possible using the arrow Key on the left corner but not by using the sweep function like it is possible in macOS.

How can i use the going back function in Safari like it is possible in MacOS? On the Mac i can chance back to previous Websites by sweeping with two Fingers. Unfortuntely is this Not possible on the ipad. I tried with one and to fingers but it doesn't work.

Just got my thinkpad W540. want to be able to swith between the hotkeys and the function keys. Is there an easy way to do this?

On my newer ThinkPads, pressing the Fn key and tapping ESC turns on FnLk (small LED on the key lights up) and the F keys then invoke F1, F2, etc.

Satellite L305D-S5895 - Functions keys and WLan don't work with Win XP

I bought a Toshiba Satellite l305d s5895, with winXP, because I need software, but the function keys doesn't works.
So I need a driver, but i can't find it, and the internet wireless doesn't work.

In my opinion there is problem because most threads here are about European notebook models. so then come question from US. Toshiba Europe and Toshiba US don't work together and every of them is responsible for own models and offer support for country specific notebook models.
So here in Europe Toshiba has for most models offered two BIOSes. One was already on the Vista delivered notebooks. On download page Toshiba has offered BIOS for WXP. in most cases it was version 5.xx and this BIOS was designed to support Toshiba specific tools and utilities. For example, full FN keys functionality was available with this WXP BIOS only.
So if someone of you have US notebook model they should see how to find the solution with Toshiba US or US forum under http://community.compuserve.com/n/pfx/forum.aspx?webtag=ws-laptop&redirCnt=1

How do you reset the special keyboard function keys?

I used to use an older external keyboard that had Dashboard as F4. Now I got a newer keyboard that has Launchpad as F4. I was used to the old way, so I went into the keyboard shortcut for Dashboard and set it as F4. To my disappointment, however, it only works when I hold 'fn'. (I didn't expect this, as when the key was set to F13 holding fn wasn't required.) So anyway, that is even worse, and I wanted to change it back. However, it wouldn't let me. (In Launchpad & Dock > Keyboard Shortcuts, there used to be a checkmark next to Show Launchpad with a blank area on the right, but now when I try to click Restore Defaults, it forces me to choose a key... and pressing F4 without holding fn doesn't register.) And I know I can make it use all function keys as standard function keys, but not just for F4. And if I do it for all of them, I lose the other keyboard controls and I don't want that. I don't want to have to be stuck with the FunctionFlip 3rd party tool forever... How can I actually reset they key (or ideally, make it bring up dashboard without holding down fn)? You'd think that if it's so simple to change a setting one way it would be simple to change back. I'd even delete some prefs file if i had to.

I figured out that if you remove the ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.symbolichotkeys.plist file and restart, that restores the keyboard.
Second question: Is there any way to make F4 (without holding fn) bring up Dashboard on Lion that doesn't require FunctionFlip? If it matters, I have a Time Machine backup of the symbolichotkeys.plist file from when I had the older keyboard.

Using Function Keys and Alt Key in Flash Video

I am attempting to create an eLearning video, which includes instructions, a "try it yourself" section, and then a quiz. Our software that I am trying to simulate uses Function keys (F6 to bring up specific windows) as well as shortcut keys (Alt-S takes the user to a certain field, Alt-P conducts a Patient Search, etc). However, I have found that when running the video using IE, the browser takes over the focus and these function keys do not control the video.
These functions work fine in Google Chrome (not approved for use by the company) and when the video is published as .exe, but I need this to work in IE.
Is there anyway to retain the focus on the flash video for the entire video?

Here is the Preference dialog that Lilybiri was referring to where you can change the key assignments.
When finished recording, you can click the Restore Defaults button to set everything back the way it was.
