  • The BlackBerry Visor Mount Speakerphone VM-605 compatability ?

For anyone who has tested this new accessory, is it compatible with other devices than a BB. One of the two phones in our house hold is the LG Envy 2. I was not sure if this speakerphone would pair with this phone also.
    Thanks

Doesn't say only Blackberry devices. That list is Blackberry devices that it's compatible with.
Right above that, it says Compatible with other Bluetooth® enabled devices.

  • BlackBerry Visor Mount Speakerphone Review

I've had a chance to play with the new BlackBerry Visor Mount Speakerphone for the past few days and thought I'd start a bit of a review.  I'd like to encourage others who've had a chance to play with it to add to this.
    Initial impressions
After pulling the BlackBerry Visor Mount out of the packaging it came in, I took a look.  One button on one side, a +/- button on the other side, and a single main button on top of the unit.  There was also a microUSB plug in on the side as well.  Overall, it makes for a very simplistic design that looks sharp.  On the back side of the unit is a clip which can be used to attach the BlackBerry Visor Mount to your car's visor (makes sense ).  Simple design but effective.
    Initial Connection
My Visor Mount did not come with instructions, which left me scratching my head for a second... how was I going to learn how to use it, and would I make any major mistakes???  Good news, it's incredibly intuitive to use.  To turn the unit on, press and hold the main power button until it tells you it's on.  The first time it turns on, it'll go into pairing mode.  Just search for it with your BlackBerry device and as with most other bluetooth headsets, enter 0000 as the passkey.  After that, the friendly voice will let you know that the unit has paired.
    Call Quality
To make a phone call, just press the main button for a second and the voice activated system will prompt you for your instructions.  Just be careful not to hold the main button for too long or the device will turn off (I've done this a few times already).  It's also an easy disconnect - press the button again and you're done.  To answer a call, press the button once and you're connected.  Call clarity was actually very impressive.  According to family members and boyfriend, it's much better than when I have them on speakerphone, and the speakerphone on my Storm was already pretty decent, so that's a good sign!  So far, I've used the Visor Mount as a speakerphone only (i.e. not connected to my car stereo) and I've had no problem hearing the other parties through the device.  The only instance where the other person was unable to hear me is when I went over a section of road with several bumps.  Other than that, no problem.  (Note, to change the volume of the speakerphone, use the same +/- button that changes the FM stations - this only works in the non-FM mode).
Another really neat feature?  When you receive a call, the friendly voice tells you the phone number of who is calling you (requires Caller ID is enabled on your phone)!
    FM Transmitter
I tested the FM transmitter on my home stereo and had no problems getting it to work.  Just press the FM button and you're up and running.  If you need to change the station to get a clearer signal (default is 88.1), just press the +/- button to change the station.  The friendly voice tells you what station you're on so you can change your stereo to the correct station.  Sound was generally pretty clear (some moments of interferance) and overall, I'd have to say this is one of the better FM transmitters I've used (and I've tried a few over the years - the next closest was a Sony one).  One of the big problems I used to have with FM transmitters is that I usually had to crank the volume, and I didn't have as much of an issue with the Visor Mount.  The only time I did notice a decrease in volume was when I tried watching a movie on my BlackBerry Storm, but regular audio worked just fine.  To go back to regular speakerphone mode, just hit the FM button again to turn it off.
    Overall Quality
I have to admit, I'm pretty impressed.  The BlackBerry Visor Mount does the job it's supposed to do, at least for me, and at a lower cost than some of it's competitors.  It's also really nice that I don't have to hold my phone while I'm talking and driving (much safer) and I'm not always trying to put my bluetooth headset back in my ear because it's falling out yet again.  And I now finally have yet another reason to set up my extensive music library collection into playlists!  When I'm done, I just hide the unit so no one steals it and it turns itself off when I walk out of bluetooth range of the car.
At this point in time, I'm not sure that the BlackBerry Visor Mount/BlackBerry Storm combination will be used to replace the 20GB hard drive in my car, however it'll definitely work if I'm in other people's cars!  Or for when I replace my precious VW Golf!  But it now gets used every time I get in my car.  I just put it on the car visor, turn it on and I know I can safely leave my BlackBerry Storm in my bag/purse where it belongs.
    Rating
I'm going to give this a 9/10.  It's an excellent accessory for BlackBerry owners, but hey, we can always leave a little room for improvement!
    Good job RIM
    EDIT:  Added link and image.

I agree that the device does everything advertised and does it well.
    I have two areas I feel it could be improved;
    1) increase the volume of the speaker phone, I have trouble hearing the commands.
    2) increase the transmitter. There are very few "dead": channels in a major city and
and It would be helpful if the transmitter could have a stronger signal.
Otherwise the device is a very valuable and useful addition to the Blackberry line of accessories.
    Thanks,

My truck is setup for four wheeling, and sits 6'5" . While removing the device I fumbled. During the ensuing "tip drill"
I managed to get a hand on it twice. Unfortunately the second tip knocked it out of the truck higher than the roof, and provided
a 7ft fall to the concrete below. Amazingly not a crack anywhere, just a slight scratch where it hit.
Apparently I didn't think that was through enough of a test. While putting the speakerphone back...well you guess it, I dropped
it again. This time it bounced off the floor and back onto the concrete. This time, not even a scratch.
After closing the truck door, rolling up the window, and using BOTH hands, it is back on the visor, where it will live out it's life.
One other thing that impressed me?
"She" is tough as nails. Never screamed or yelled for help, and not a tear afterwards.

  • Transfer contact between blackberry 8900 and visor mount speakerphone vm-605

I am using visor mount paired with my curve 8900 and it is working well
the only thing I am not able to get, is to transfer contact from my smartphone to the visor mount, so when I get a phone cal it is never recognized, and the voice tells me only the phone number
    blackberry 8900 v4.6.1.250 (platform 4.2.0.113)
    any suggestions?

you need OS 5 on your phone for that feature to work.
    Manual device OS upgrade instructions:
    1. First locate your carrier and the OS file you wish to use.
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
    2. Do a backup of your device first, using Desktop Manager > Backup. Close Desktop Manager upon completion and unplug BlackBerry. Get DM here http://us.blackberry.com/apps-software/desktop/
    3. Download the OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
    4. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
    5. This step is not needed unless there is an issue on next steps. Use BBSAK from BBSAK.org and wipe the device (after doing a complete backup) then after you get the error 507 (no OS installed) then proceed to step 6
    6. remove internet connection to PC and reboot PC.
    7. Plug in BlackBerry and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file was in.
    8. if you did Step 5, restore from back up. Follow this KB if needed http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB10339
    Enjoy the new OS.

  • Answering calls on the VM-605 visor mount

I just purchased the VM-605 visor mount and it appears to work fine other than it does not let me know when I have an incoming call other than for a little light to flash on it - no beep, ring, "call from . . ." prompt, etc.  What have I done wrong?  I don't want to have to stare at it while driving just to find out if someone is trying to call me.

We're just trying to help here... helping us know what you have done in advance certainly cuts down on the clutter in these threads.
jonny772 wrote: I have verizon navigator, is it not a 3rd party mapping app?GPS is enabled, its not blackberry maps.  Verizon navigator has voice prompts, meaning it talks to me.
Actually, Verizon Navigator is a third party application. Is not part the native RIM Operating System (say, like the clock, blackberry maps andthe browser).
So, you said you'd read that document, but have you done what it instructs?
    1. Have you paired the VM to your BlackBerry?
    2. Is your BlackBerry > Options > GPS set to Location ON?
    3. Does Verizon Navigator work ok to navigate and voice announce on the device?
All that is needed then is the pairing of the devices. You'll hear the voice over the Visor Mount.
If you want the voice assist over the auto speakers too, you'll need to follow the directions to set the VM to the proper FM channel.

  • Visor Mount VM-605

I have been able to pair the VM-605 to my Torch but cannot seem to play audio files through my FM stereo despite it being tunes to the proper FM setting. It also seems to lose it's FM "connection" after a minute.  Any assistance would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi dortc,
Also try pressing the top left button on the VM-605 to refresh the connection while playing music. The FM frequency may lose the audio connection is there is an extended period of time in which no audio is detected.
    Cheers,

I'm trying to solve why when i make a video call in skype the only sound from the phone comes from the top internal speak and not the speakerphone, making it impossible to hear the other person unless i hold the phone to my head like a call, making video calls kinda pointless.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
I have 3 more weeks to decide if i want to keep this phone and this might be a deal breaker.

You can also use headphones actually they did that this way in order the person you are talking to not to hear his voice...
