BlackBerry Z10 - Screen / Device Lock Shortcut

Hi all,
Can someone advise how to create “Screen Lock / Device Lock” shortcut on Z10 desktop, please?
All older BB OS (5,x, 6.x, 7.x) has been always nice lock icon to lock device. In Z10 I have to hold and release hardware button and touch screen to lock it. This is very uncomfortable and long lasting.
Thanks
Quido

Well sanders, thank you for the response .But what I need is, I need to hide the event list!not the notification?
Then, can you explain what it is because I do not understand. The instructions I offered above will remove events listed from the lock screen.

Yes, explained above.

could you even suggest me on how to download videos from YouTube, some must have apps for BlackBerry?
Try the third party app, I think named SuperTube or Downtube in app world

  • Blackberry z10 screen

Hello blackberry! first off, just wanted to tell you how much i support you guys. I've had numerous blackberries throughout the years and i've even got others to support you haha. This latest release of the blackberry z10 is absolutely amazing! i love the os, the phone...it's perfect. So heres my issue. I recently bought your phone (not from my phone company so no warranty), and i got a screen protector to help prevent the need of the warranty. I put the screen protector on and this HUGE white and black blob appeared. I took the protector off and the black went away and most of the white did as well. However, there is now a bit of the white covering the screen that refuses to leave. It is VERY worrisome and i dont know what to do or how to go about fixing it. i've rebooted the phone, i've taken the battery out and left it, i've left it in rice for an expended period of time..but nothing. It appears as though this white is behind the screen because all of the writing and stuff goes overtop of it. Attached you'll find a pic of what i'm talking about. What do i do and please oh please tell me you can help out a poor broke student fix his favorite phone in the whole world! lol. I look forward to your response.

I can see the image fine.
Is the crescent shaped white blobs in the center of the screen?
I've not seen that before and I am afraid if you don't have a warranty, you're stuck.
Why don't you have any warranty?

  • Frozen Boot Up Screen On Blackberry Z10

I have a blackberry Z10 Smartphone STL100-1, which is about 4 months old. Two days back I had switched it off and when I tried switching it ON it was stuck at the boot screen.
It was stuck in that mode for hours, yet it could not boot. Whenever I tried to restart , my phone met the same fate.Another thing -- I cannot switch off my phone, whenever I do that it just restarts and gets stuck in the boot screen and continues to be in that state until it drains it's battery completely. So the only way to switch off my phone is by doing a battery pull. The last software update was done about few weeks back from the mobile itself.
I looked up the internet for a solution and the most common solution was to go for a software update.Blackberry link does not recognize my device after this boot problem, hence I went for the update from the web, using Internet Explorer . The update started but could not complete and gave the following error message-- "There was an error updating your software".I tried to update it a few more times but that was of no use.
It would be great if anyone can post a possible solution to this problem.I would like to love to have my phone working again.
    Solved!

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Given what you describe, I would recommend that you use an AutoLoader to attempt to force an OS reload onto your device. Refer:

  • Blackberry Z10 stuck at boot screen

Some hours ago, after receiving a call and tried to save the number, my Z10 went off and did not come back on. I did the hard reset and when i fixed the battery back in, in the boot screen, when showing the loading logo, the visibility slowly vanishes till it vanishes completely. Sometimes, it would get stuck in the blackberry screen. Its stays this way for some minutes and then restarts and gets back to the same state again... I have tried leaving it plugged to the charger and pulling out the battery and that did not work. I have also tried reloading the software through Blackberry link, after downloading the update and tries extracting the software, it fails at that point because the phone restarts on its own. Please whats can i do about this??

    Hello,
You should attempt the use of an AutoLoader:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-10-OS-Device-Software/Upgrading-OS10-devices-using...
Sometimes those can succeed at reloading your BB10 OS where other methods fail. You might have to try multiple times, leaving your BB connected to your PC and attempting things at different stages of the booting cycle....hopefully the AutoLoader can connect to the BootROM and cause the loading process to begin.
    Good luck!

  • Faulty Devices - Blackberry Z10

Our company recently renewed the corporate mobile phone contract with Maxis and we received Blackberry Z10 Smart Phones as free device for the plan that we signed up.
We received 58 units of Blackberry Z10 in June 2014, out of which to-date, several units (40%) have proven to be faulty and warranty claims were made. The claims were handled by IXSUN SDN BHD – Blackberry Service Centre at Tropicana City Mall.
The type of claims varies from hardware reset, faulty battery, keypad not working, system hang etc…
Our business is IT based and we depend a lot on the Smart Phone, accessing to e-mails and as 80% of our employees are Consultants, they should always be reachable on phone. The faulty devices cost the company additional expenses (admin costs – mileage and toll) and a waste of billable time. We are extremely disappointed and unhappy with the quality of device sent and demand that all the units be replaced with a new batch of devices – all 58 units in total.
We are also surprised with your Service Centre policy whereby no hardcopy is given as supporting document for the warranty claim. Only Acknowledgement Job Card is given and upon receiving the repaired phone, the form is retained by the Service Centre and for record, we are requested to take photo of the form instead!
Please find enclosed, copies of the photo shots taken of the forms, last batch of phones sent in for warranty claim last week.
This is a serious allegation and do revert with your solution to our problem within 14 days of the date of this letter, failing which we will cancel the corporate plan with Maxis and return all the phones back to you and seek monetary compensation for the breach of contract in furnishing faulty devices.
Should you have any queries, please contact Ms Sue at 03 56369016 ext 138 or 012 3242137.

While playing Video, select More then Play On, you should see HDMI (Not connected) and compatible devices (mine Shows WDTVLIVE), select Media Sharing at the bottom and activate all media. Select Devices at the bottom and check if device is listed, it should be there with stacks of other unkown devices and IP addresses.

  • Can't copy contacts from device to SIM on Blackberry Z10

    Good day!
I'm trying to copy the contacts from device Blackberry Z10 to a sim-card, I go to the Contacts in menu, click "Copy contacts from your device to a sim-card", the phone displays "some information about the contact will not be copied to the sim-card," I go to the call, Contacts (on SIM), as seen nothing to copy, as it was a couple of contacts and left. Tell me, are there any other ways to copy the contacts from your device to SIM?
    Thanks in advance!

that guide covers what the BB developers were supposed to implement. That fact is that in OS 10.1 it doesn't work that way. But most BB OS 10 functionality is still Alpha quality, not fully working, even core apps like Text messaging don't really work acceptably well for a production device.

  • Blackberry Z10 Black Screen Of Death

I have been an avid Blackberry supporter for many years. I started with the pearl flip, 9800, 9810, bold, and now I just bought a gently used, less than a year old, Blackberry Z10. I unlocked it and put it on with Koodo, and it was an awesome cell phone/ business tool. Until last night. It black screened on me, and now won't do anything, at all. I've tried a soft reset, nothing. I've tried a hard reset, nothing. I've tried switching batteries, nothing. I can't access it through Blackberry Link, can't do a **bleep** thing with it at all. No, I didn't drop it. No, it didn't get wet. The thing worked awesome until it just up and died. I've read up on this, and apparantly this isn't an uncommon issue. What's the fix here guys. I'm kinda feeling jaded for being such a Blackberry supporter after all these years. I need a solution.

As crazy as this sounds, it works. I got my phone going after using this procedure.sdgardne wrote:
OK, so we don't know if you received an update or not...OK.
Please try this sequence...note that, throughout the entire 4h15m process, your BB must remain directly connected to a known-good wall charger (not PC USB, not a cradle):With the battery inside, connect your BB to the wall chargerLeave it alone for 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display doesRemove the batteryWait 15 minutesInsert the batteryWait another 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display doesThis has been known to "kick start" some BBs. If it does not help, please try again but increase the step 4 wait time to 2 hours, and perhaps as long as 4-5 hours.
It is also possible that your battery or BB has experienced a problem...to test, this sequence is needed:Obtain an known good and already fully charged additional battery...use it in your BB and see what happensObtain access to a known good and identical BB...use your battery in it and see what happensThe results of this will indicate if it's your BB or your battery that has the problem. Note carefully please that "new" and "known good" are not necessarily the same things. While rare, a "new" battery certainly could be defective. It is also impossible to know if the other battery you tried was fully functional or also dead for some reason or another. Rather, the simplest (and least costly, btw) method to conduct this test is to find someone with an identical BB who has no issues...trade batteries and see what happens.
Good luck and let us know!

  • BlackBerry z10 device memory problem

I have a problem with my BlackBerry z10 device memory. Over time the so called "other data" keep growing, eating up the internal memory even though i didn't install new apps. So now i have less than 1 gb free storage and keep getting message that i should move some files to the external memory. The "other data" is now at 14.8 gb. BlackBerry 10 os don't let us see the content of this data but i know that all of the apps i installed take less than 4 gb. I wanna find the solution before i factory reset my z10. I don't like to have to install all those apps again.

MaxMem was a tool that could "free up space" in OS's 4.2 to 6.0.  It hasn't been updated since sometime in 2008.  There is no BB10 version.

Recently, the Yahoo Toolbar and the Babylon extension have been reported to cause that problem. They seem to overlap invisibly over the top of the web page display. If you have either or both, uninstall or disable them/it, or see if an update is available that solves the problem.

  • Must-know BlackBerry Z10 and BlackBerry 10 tips and tricks

Check out the following must-know BlackBerry Z10 and BlackBerry 10 tips and tricks to get the most out of your new BlackBerry 10 smartphone.
    1) BlackBerry 10's Built-In Screen Shot Feature
Capturing a screen shot on a BlackBerry 10 device is simple. Just hold both the volume up and volume down keys simultaneously for a couple of seconds until you hear a shutter sound. Screen shots are saved to your BlackBerry 10 camera gallery.
    2) Volume Up/Down Keys as Media Controls
You can use your BlackBerry 10 device's volume up and volume down keys to skip through songs in your music librery. To enable this feature, open your BlackBerry 10 Settings by dragging down from the top of your display while on your Active Frames screen or a home screen panel. Choose Settings from the dropdown menu and click System Volume. On the following page, slide the Music Shortcuts button to the On position.
    3) Volume Up/Down Keys and the BlackBerry 10 Camera
You simply tap your BlackBerry Z10's display with the camera or video camera open to snap an image or start recording a video clip. But it's sometimes easier to use the volume keys. Just tap the volume up or volume down keys with the camera open to snap and image. And you can also use these keys to start and stop video capture when your camera's video mode is enabled.
    4) Instantly Launch Voice Control
The BlackBerry Z10 can initiate lots of different actions based on voice commands thanks to its Voice Control app. And you can instantly launch Voice Control by holding your device's mute key for a couple of seconds.
    5) Launch BlackBerry Camera from Lock Screen
BlackBerry 10 lets you quickly launch your camera application from its lock screen, a feature that can be valuable when you want to take spur-of-the-moment shots. A camera icon appears in the bottom-right corner of the locked display screen, and you can hold it for a couple of seconds to launch the camera app.
    6) Advanced BlackBerry Hub Inbox Controls
The BlackBerry Hub is the central inbox for all of you various BlackBerry 10 application notifications and messages. You can access basic Hub controls by clicking the Menu key at the bottom right of your Hub screen. (The Menu key looks like three dots stacked on top of each other.) But you can also access some advanced BlackBerry Hub controls from the date bars that appear in the inbox stream at the start of each new day.
Just hold a finger on a date bar to bring up controls that let you skip to the start of the past day, the start of the next day, jump to the top of the BlackBerry Hub, jump to the bottom of your BlackBerry Hub or mark all prior messages as read.
    7) Speedy BlackBerry 10 Navigation
The BlackBerry 10 OS can be broken down into three main components: The BlackBerry Hub; the Active Frames screen; and your application panels. You can do navigation through these components using a basic set of swipes and gestures. But you can also use the tiny slider tray that appears at the bottom of the Active Frames screen and all of your home panels. Just tap a specific panel in the slide to navigate directly to that panel without scrolling. Touch the Active Frames square, which is composed of four smaller squares, to jump directly to your active apps page. Or tap the Hub button, which looks like three horizontal lines on top of each other, to navigate right to the Hub.
    8) See Your Battery Life Status as a Percentage
The BlackBerry 10 OS does not currently allow you to set your battery-status indicator to show a specific percentage, only a battery icon. But you can check your device's hardware settings for a more specific battery status. Just open your device's Settings by sliding down from the top of your Active Frames or application-panel screen and choose Settings from the dropdown menu. Then click About. On the following screen, change the Category menu from General to Hardware. You'll see a battery percentage listed in the Hardware information.
    9) BlackBerry 10 Boot Status as a Percentage
Whenever you restart or power up your BlackBerry 10 devices, a BlackBerry logo appears with a status bar that encircles it. The status bar shows you start-up progress, but you can also view that progress as a percentage number. Just hold your finger anywhere on the BlackBerry logo and a progress percentage appears.
    10) BlackBerry Z10 Keyboard Tips, Tricks and Shortcuts
You can type special characters using the BlackBerry 10 virtual keyboard by holding your finger on top of a letter with associated special characters (e, a, i, o, u, y, etc.), and then sliding your finger over to the character of your choice.
Quickly sliding your finger downward from the top of your keyboard to its bottom cycles through the number and character screens so you don't have to tap the number/character screens button, which can slow down typing.
And you can delete an entire word instead of just individual letters by swiping leftward from the backspace key toward the center of your keyboard.

  • Z10 Tips, Tricks and Shortcuts

I've compiled these tips from several week's worth of using the Z10 BlackBerry.
For the new Z10 user, you'll find some good stuff here and I urge you to just sit down for 20 miutes and go through each of these. They'll stick with you that way.
For the experienced user, please feel free to post your own tips in this thread! I'd ask that we stay on topic, and let's get as many as possible posted here.
     Settings
First, find your SETTINGS easily by swiping down from the top bezel. There you will see Settings, Bluetooth, Alarm, Rotation Lock, WiFi and Notifications. In your Settings, you will find your About screen, Network Connections such as your mobile network, Mobile Hotspot, NFC, Airplane Mode, etc.; your email accounts setup, Language and Input, BlackBerry Protect, and many other key settings.
Name your Z10 at Settings > About > Device Name. This is the name of the device a WiFi router will see, when using the BlackBerry Link on your desktop, or when sharing media files.
Remember the Overflow icon, which is noted by the ⁞ icon (three horizontal dots) This icon is often seen in the Hub, at the bottom of email compose screens and in many core BB10 apps and will lead you to more settings, options or actions for that screen.
Take a screen shot of your Z10 screen by pressing both the UP and DOWN volumes keys simultaneously. The screen shot is saved in your Pictures folder.
Stop the red LED quickly by tapping the top edge Standby button. Sometimes I don't have time to even peek at the Hub, and a quick tap of the standby button let's me get back to work for a few more minutes.
Hub Quick Controls: While in your Hub view, tap the overflow icon ⁞ and then Settings > to find your settings for Hub Display and Actions (change the sort order of messages, download images automatically and more), Hub Management (you can enable and disable which email accounts, Facebook, and Twitter to appear or no in the Hub.
Application settings can often be found by swiping down from the top bezel to find more Settings, Help, or About that third party application.
Disable the Delete Message Confirmation from your Hub screen > tap the overflow icon ⁞ > Settings > Display and Actions > scroll down to and disable the Delete Message Confirmation.
Peek when busy! If your actively in an email or other app like Twitter, you can use one finger swiping slowly up from the bottom bezel to view any mail, BBM or Hub notifications on the left or right of the pane. Keep your finger on the app and swipe back down to continue in the active app, or let go to move to another app. Swiping up from the bottom and over to the right all in one action hides that active app and takes you directly to your Hub.
Check your battery percentage at Settings > About > change the top Category from General to Hardware and the battery percentage is at the bottom of the screen. I've downloaded "Battery Watch" from BlackBerry World for free, as an icon on my screen.
Speed Dial settings are found by opening your Phone application and while in the Call List or Contacts view, touch and hold the desire contact to add to your Speed Dial and on the popup side bar, touch the Star icon (Add to Speed Dial).
    Typing/Keyboard
Word Substitution on your Z10 works beautifully! Find it in your Settings > Language and Input > Automated Assistance > Word Substitution. We formerly called this AutoText, and it works all the same as before. There are a few pre-loaded, and I make my own, for things such as creating an entry of "hh" which becomes "Headed Home" I often use to let family know I've left the office at the end of the day. You can create Twitter hashtags, such as "bbt" becomes "#BlackBerry10", "myadd" instantly enters my physical office address. Learn to use the pre-loaded entries such as "ld" for today's date, "lt" for the current time, "mypin" to enter your Z10 PIN, or "myver" to instantly enter your BlackBerry model and OS version installed.
Hide the keyboard on any screen by wiping down with two fingers on the keyboard. Now you can see more of the long BBMessenger chat.
Format your Email to add colored fonts, Bold, bullets, or numbering... While in the email compose screen, swipe two fingers down to hide the keyboard and you'll see the Attach, Format, Importance and the overflow [⁞] icon... which allows you do BCC: a contact in the email.
Minize the keyboard quickly by touching the space key for two seconds, or by using two fingers to swipe downward on the keyboard.
Switch Keyboards quickly between the QWERTY keyboard and the numeric/symbol keyboard by swiping down on the keyboard with one finger.
Delete whole words by swiping left across the keyboard. Delete two words by swiping leftward with two fingers, three words with three fingers.
Select a word by touching and holding the word, the blue selection box will surround the word. Hold that word a second longer and the entire sentence will be selected. Another second, the entire paragraph will select; a second longer and the next paragraph will select with it, and so on.
    Media
Use the Camera on the Lock Screen by touching the camera icon for five seconds... instant camera for the quick shots without unlocking!
Camera Tips: Use the up or down volume to activate the shutter, or simply touch the screen. Touch the Overflow icon for the camera's Burst mode (touch and hold for sports shots!) or to change the front-facing camera, or the Stabilization mode for shaky hands. The up/down volume keys also stop and start the video camera.
Set your Music Controls to your volume keys by going to your Settings > System Volume > to set the Music Shortcuts to On. Now your device volume up/down keys can be pressed to take you to the next or previous track in your music library.
    Calendar
Switch calendar views quickly between the single day view to the week view, tap the screen twice quickly
A six month calendar is viewable, from the month view, by dragging down from top blue month title. From there you can swipe left or right to the previous or future six months, and touch a month to view that month.
    Miscellaneous
Customize your icon layout by touching and holding an icon for two seconds until they pulsate... Touch and drag an icon within the current screen and let go to place it; drag an icon across the edge right or left to another panel, or drag one icon onto another to create a new folder with both icons located in that folder (you'll have a New Folder box pop up where you can name the folder). Rename a folder by touching it a few seconds.
Voice Control can quickly access from any screen by pressing the side MUTE key for two seconds (this is the button between the up and down volume keys).
Just Type! I am amazed at the ease of typing and self-correction of my typing mistakes on the Z10. I just seem to enter gibberish and the Z10 makes sense of it all in 99% of the words. Take time the first two weeks to use the word flick as you type and the Z10 will learn even better your typing and writing habits.
Just Speak! I have never been a big user of my former BlackBerry voice to text apps or services. They just never worked right for me. But WOW, this Z10 is actually getting better and better each time I use the Voice Control. Just like typing, it's learning my speech pattern, southern accent and idiosyncrasies. Take some time aside to create SMS messages or emails with the Voice Control and then as you do, make the corrections needed. Doing so will make a world of difference in how Voice Control reacts and transcribes your voice input.
Reset the BlackBerry10 Hub by swiping from the top right bezel to the center of the screen, five times in a row. This will often reset any ghost notifications, your email or social media notifications. You'll see a quick black screen then "Preparing BlackBerry Hub".
