Blackberry Z10 Sudden Death Syndrome

For some inexplicable reason my Blackberry Z10 has died after a short life of three weeks. It was a quiet passing. She was working fine this morning faithfully taking calls, sending e-mails and reading text messages.  And then she just went to sleep and never woke up. Reinforcements are on the way; however I remain phoneless for the next three to five business days.
Three to five business days later…
Newly “certified refurbished” Blackberry Z10 from Verizon arrived then it died. This time death came about two weeks.  She was working awesome receiving texts and checking mail and then she was gone. She died fully charged with no history of dropping or having been coffee’d.
All attempts at resuscitation were unsuccessful (e.g., removing battery, tethering to computer to force software reload with or without battery, switching battery,  removing memory card, removing SIM card, checking that the white stickers weren’t pink, begging and pleading , crying, etc.)
I believe that there is a defect in the phone. I think that they should be recalled and replaced with new non-refurbished phones. IMHO.
In lieu of flowers please send chocolate.

  • BlackBerry Z10 sudden mother board dead... really dissapointed

My blackberry Z10 suddently went dead (no power) and according to the repair center the mother board IC to be replaced but in Sri Lanka there is no dealer for Blackberry so it cannot be done locally. So through one of my friends i sent the phone to India but according to them should replaced the mother board completely and the cost is very high which is around usd 200. i'm a blackberry user for morethan 7years and i purchased this phone from singapore through one of my friends and used only around 7/8 months.
So is there any assist i could get into this issue...??? it will be great if anyone could advise me into this.

Replacing the motherboard IS a new device. It means a new PIN and that means new device. You could purchase a new Z10 on Shopblackberry.com for $299. I can't imagine a motherboard and labor to install it being any less than that. And then, what are you left with? A device almost a year old that you just dumped $300 into. Not worth it. That's why I suggest just replacing the device. You do what you need/want to do. That's my opinion.

  • Blackberry z10 suddenly turned off help!

    Hello.
O had never had a problem with my phone, I have it for less than a year or so. It always worked really well until... it turned off and never on again. I tried to charge it but not even the red LED appears. Is there a way to reboot it or something??
I feel hopeless. I bought it in US through amazon but live in Argentina!!

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Please try this sequence...note that, throughout the entire 4h15m process, your BB must remain directly connected to a known-good wall charger (not PC USB, not a cradle):
With the battery inside, connect your BB to the wall charger
Leave it alone for 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
    Remove the battery
    Wait 15 minutes
    Insert the battery
Wait another 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
This has been known to "kick start" some BBs.
It is also possible that your battery or BB has experienced a problem...to test, this sequence is needed:
Obtain an known good and already fully charged additional battery...use it in your BB and see what happens
Obtain access to a known good and identical BB...use your battery in it and see what happens
The results of this will indicate if it's your BB or your battery that has the problem. Note carefully please that "new" and "know good" are not necessarily the same things. While rare, a "new" battery certainly could be defective. Rather, the simplest (and least costly, btw) method to conduct this test is to find someone with an identical BB who has no issues...trade batteries and see what happens.
Good luck and let us know!

  • Sudden Instrument Death Syndrome

I'm still on Logic Pro 7.1 and i experience SIDS a lot.
Has this been fixed in newer versions of Logic ?
That alone is a great excuse to upgrade.

Jdredge, SIDS or Sudden Instrument Death Syndrome is a famous Logic bug where an a softsynth will stop receiving midi signal. For example, if u have an EXS24 running on Inst 1 and u have a midi sequence for this on the arrange, it will suddenly go mute, u wont even be able to play the instrument from ur controller keyboard, its as if someone unplugged the virtual Midi cable!! Work around is to copy the sequence data and channel strip setting to another fresh track. The SIDS track once dead cannot be brought back to life, i end up deleting them from the arrange.
Its a real **** off and sad that it still has not been completely solved.
    Cheers

  • Blackberry Z10 Black Screen Of Death

I have been an avid Blackberry supporter for many years. I started with the pearl flip, 9800, 9810, bold, and now I just bought a gently used, less than a year old, Blackberry Z10. I unlocked it and put it on with Koodo, and it was an awesome cell phone/ business tool. Until last night. It black screened on me, and now won't do anything, at all. I've tried a soft reset, nothing. I've tried a hard reset, nothing. I've tried switching batteries, nothing. I can't access it through Blackberry Link, can't do a **bleep** thing with it at all. No, I didn't drop it. No, it didn't get wet. The thing worked awesome until it just up and died. I've read up on this, and apparantly this isn't an uncommon issue. What's the fix here guys. I'm kinda feeling jaded for being such a Blackberry supporter after all these years. I need a solution.

As crazy as this sounds, it works. I got my phone going after using this procedure.sdgardne wrote:

  • Blackberry Z10 microphone problem :(

Good Day, i had this first three days of my blackberry z10. Then suddenly my mic wasnt working, i had the OS 10.2.1.2102. Guys i need your help please on how to trouble shoot this problem. Thank you
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

It's against the forum rules to link to possible pages that advocate loading of non-released OSs and actions that result in a possible loss of warranty, while the ones I am talking about are legally available if I post the link it will probably get removed anyway. It should be easy enough for you to search and find them yourself.
As for resolving the issue, I think it's worth a try and I would probably do it if I was in your situation, but in all likelihood there may be a HW fault so I wouldn't like to say either way.
If you've only had it three days then depending which country you are in means you may be able to return it any way, you can here in the UK within 7 days (under certain conditions), but whatever rights you have the warranty should still be there and if this is an easy option for you you might as well try to return it to whoever sold it to you.

  • BlackBerry Z10 randomly turning on by itself

    Hello everyone,
I have 2 BlackBerry Z10 phones experiencing a weird issue; randomly, the phones will turn on by themselves when they are powered off. This issue has been happening since 10.2.1, and is still occurring on 10.3.1. I have not noticed any event that would cause this to occur. I will have the phone powered off and then notice all of a sudden that it is turned on and looking at the boot time it could be a time when no one could have turned it on. The fact that this is happening on 2 Z10s is concerning me and I wish to know if this issue has happened to anyone else. Both phones are out of warranty so replacing them is out of the question. I have also factory defaulted both phones in an attempt to resolve this, but to no avail. Mind you the issue is a minor annoyance, I would still like to get to the bottom of this.
    Thanks for any help!

The only suspicion I have is that you have an alarm or a reminder set. I haven't looked at this since my BBOS days, and I don't know if the BB10 OS does the same thing. But should be easy to test. If that isn't it then I don't know.

  • BlackBerry Z10 camera not working....

Hi, I just bought a new BlackBerry Z10 mobile 2 months back,.. but suddenly the camera stopped working.... When ever i open the camera, there's a message displayed as " The Camera can't be started ". Can some one help me out of this...

Sorry it's against the forum guidelines, it's pretty clear if you search the forums from the site I mentioned.
Previous attempts to do so have quickly been removed.
I will mention that it possibly invalidates your warranty doing this and definitely does if you install a leaked OS in its entirety.

  • Blackberry Z10 getting turned-off on 15-17% battery level

  • Blackberry z10 hangs and restarts a lot

    OS: Blackberry OS 10Model Z10
    Model Number: STL100-3
    Software Release: 10.1.0.273
I have also tried 10.1.0.1880 all problems remain same.
I am new user to the blackberry family.
I was very exited to use Blackberry Z10 but there are many small bugs in the phone.
I thought that they will get fixed after update but last night i updated phone with 10.1.0.273 but majority of bugs remain same with my case.
    List of bugs.
Phone automatically restarts - High Issue
while i am typing message it hangs up suddenly and restarts automatically.
Phone heats up with out any operations and restarts.
Phone is having very less battery running time. ( this can be resolved by my self by changing the battery with high power battery. )
Please acknowledge me once you check this message.
Share me link if there is any portal / community is there which keeps update about the Z10 updates which are on going so that i can update my OS accordingly.

The rebooting issue is a known issue. 10.1.0.2342 was rumored to have fixed it but I haven't heard for sure what the consensus is.
When the phone heats up and battery takes a hit it usually means something is running in the background. Download an app called "Advanced App Manager" and run that and see if there any applications running that you can kill.

  • Faulty Devices - Blackberry Z10

Our company recently renewed the corporate mobile phone contract with Maxis and we received Blackberry Z10 Smart Phones as free device for the plan that we signed up.
We received 58 units of Blackberry Z10 in June 2014, out of which to-date, several units (40%) have proven to be faulty and warranty claims were made. The claims were handled by IXSUN SDN BHD – Blackberry Service Centre at Tropicana City Mall.
The type of claims varies from hardware reset, faulty battery, keypad not working, system hang etc…
Our business is IT based and we depend a lot on the Smart Phone, accessing to e-mails and as 80% of our employees are Consultants, they should always be reachable on phone. The faulty devices cost the company additional expenses (admin costs – mileage and toll) and a waste of billable time. We are extremely disappointed and unhappy with the quality of device sent and demand that all the units be replaced with a new batch of devices – all 58 units in total.
We are also surprised with your Service Centre policy whereby no hardcopy is given as supporting document for the warranty claim. Only Acknowledgement Job Card is given and upon receiving the repaired phone, the form is retained by the Service Centre and for record, we are requested to take photo of the form instead!
Please find enclosed, copies of the photo shots taken of the forms, last batch of phones sent in for warranty claim last week.
This is a serious allegation and do revert with your solution to our problem within 14 days of the date of this letter, failing which we will cancel the corporate plan with Maxis and return all the phones back to you and seek monetary compensation for the breach of contract in furnishing faulty devices.
Should you have any queries, please contact Ms Sue at 03 56369016 ext 138 or 012 3242137.

This is a volunteer run forum we do not have anything to do with BB.

  • Must-know BlackBerry Z10 and BlackBerry 10 tips and tricks

Check out the following must-know BlackBerry Z10 and BlackBerry 10 tips and tricks to get the most out of your new BlackBerry 10 smartphone.
    1) BlackBerry 10's Built-In Screen Shot Feature
Capturing a screen shot on a BlackBerry 10 device is simple. Just hold both the volume up and volume down keys simultaneously for a couple of seconds until you hear a shutter sound. Screen shots are saved to your BlackBerry 10 camera gallery.
    2) Volume Up/Down Keys as Media Controls
You can use your BlackBerry 10 device's volume up and volume down keys to skip through songs in your music librery. To enable this feature, open your BlackBerry 10 Settings by dragging down from the top of your display while on your Active Frames screen or a home screen panel. Choose Settings from the dropdown menu and click System Volume. On the following page, slide the Music Shortcuts button to the On position.
    3) Volume Up/Down Keys and the BlackBerry 10 Camera
You simply tap your BlackBerry Z10's display with the camera or video camera open to snap an image or start recording a video clip. But it's sometimes easier to use the volume keys. Just tap the volume up or volume down keys with the camera open to snap and image. And you can also use these keys to start and stop video capture when your camera's video mode is enabled.
    4) Instantly Launch Voice Control
The BlackBerry Z10 can initiate lots of different actions based on voice commands thanks to its Voice Control app. And you can instantly launch Voice Control by holding your device's mute key for a couple of seconds.
    5) Launch BlackBerry Camera from Lock Screen
BlackBerry 10 lets you quickly launch your camera application from its lock screen, a feature that can be valuable when you want to take spur-of-the-moment shots. A camera icon appears in the bottom-right corner of the locked display screen, and you can hold it for a couple of seconds to launch the camera app.
    6) Advanced BlackBerry Hub Inbox Controls
The BlackBerry Hub is the central inbox for all of you various BlackBerry 10 application notifications and messages. You can access basic Hub controls by clicking the Menu key at the bottom right of your Hub screen. (The Menu key looks like three dots stacked on top of each other.) But you can also access some advanced BlackBerry Hub controls from the date bars that appear in the inbox stream at the start of each new day.
Just hold a finger on a date bar to bring up controls that let you skip to the start of the past day, the start of the next day, jump to the top of the BlackBerry Hub, jump to the bottom of your BlackBerry Hub or mark all prior messages as read.
    7) Speedy BlackBerry 10 Navigation
The BlackBerry 10 OS can be broken down into three main components: The BlackBerry Hub; the Active Frames screen; and your application panels. You can do navigation through these components using a basic set of swipes and gestures. But you can also use the tiny slider tray that appears at the bottom of the Active Frames screen and all of your home panels. Just tap a specific panel in the slide to navigate directly to that panel without scrolling. Touch the Active Frames square, which is composed of four smaller squares, to jump directly to your active apps page. Or tap the Hub button, which looks like three horizontal lines on top of each other, to navigate right to the Hub.
    8) See Your Battery Life Status as a Percentage
The BlackBerry 10 OS does not currently allow you to set your battery-status indicator to show a specific percentage, only a battery icon. But you can check your device's hardware settings for a more specific battery status. Just open your device's Settings by sliding down from the top of your Active Frames or application-panel screen and choose Settings from the dropdown menu. Then click About. On the following screen, change the Category menu from General to Hardware. You'll see a battery percentage listed in the Hardware information.
    9) BlackBerry 10 Boot Status as a Percentage
Whenever you restart or power up your BlackBerry 10 devices, a BlackBerry logo appears with a status bar that encircles it. The status bar shows you start-up progress, but you can also view that progress as a percentage number. Just hold your finger anywhere on the BlackBerry logo and a progress percentage appears.
    10) BlackBerry Z10 Keyboard Tips, Tricks and Shortcuts
You can type special characters using the BlackBerry 10 virtual keyboard by holding your finger on top of a letter with associated special characters (e, a, i, o, u, y, etc.), and then sliding your finger over to the character of your choice.
Quickly sliding your finger downward from the top of your keyboard to its bottom cycles through the number and character screens so you don't have to tap the number/character screens button, which can slow down typing.
And you can delete an entire word instead of just individual letters by swiping leftward from the backspace key toward the center of your keyboard.
