Blackboard Online Classes

Hello. I am a graduate student working in the "Blackboard Academic Suite" online environment. Blackboard is the WORLD'S largest online course delivery system, and soon they will have a monopoly.

Although Safari is generally compatible with Blackboard, some of its features are not. There is a "Visual Text Editor" feature which allows graphics and text to be imported and edited within Blackboard virtual classrooms. Supposedly, the Editor only works with Internet Explorer v.6 or higher (and of course there are no Explorer upgrades for Mac past v.5.2.3)
My question: Has anyone found a way to access this feature?

BTW, Blackboard just merged with WebCT -- this ought to be interesting.....
I realize that. Yes, it will be interesting to see what happens over the next couple of years. I don't expect to see anything drastic soon. WebCT, or at least my school's implementation of it, has been having small but noticable enhancements over the last year or so.
Let me know what happens with Firefox.

Blackboard Collaborate claims it is compatible with Safari 5.1 or later and Mountain Lion, or latest Firefox. When I went to their support page, it borked and said my operating system was not compatible. It also then checked and reported that I had Java Webstart 1.6 installed.
Looks like a real pain of proprietary stuff. Probably wants to use Java to take over the camera.

I am trying to finish an online class and Google keeps popping up on my screen telling me it can't find the page I'm searching. Get Google OFF MY COMPUTER!!

I am using Firefox while watching online class. I attempt to go to another page and a Google page pops up telling me that it can't find the other page.
First of all, we are talking about something common like facebook.com or youtube.com.
Second, I'm not using Google for anything; my search engine is Bing.
Third, I despise GOOGLE.
How the heck do I stop having anything Google interfere with my browser?
I am ready to use another browser if it will get Google off my back.

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.
"Clear the Cache":
*Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
*Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

I am trying to copy and paste a work document into my online class. POP up states that Cut, Copy, and Paste are disabled by my Modzilla broser and that I could use key board short cuts or visit the website.

Due to the online classes I take, I need the old 6.0.2 version- where can I get this? and once i have it how can I stop Firefox from updating its self to the useless 7.0 version??????????

Some educational site are behind the times. At times, they require software that isn't available on the ipad. You should visit an apple store and try the educational site with the ipad. Considering that you have an iMac, I'd lean in the direction of the iPad.

How do I fix error code 401 - "unauthorized" I am taking an online class and the videos worked before, and now whenever I launch QuickTime, I get that error code.

I recently began taking an online class. We are required to watch multiple videos. I was able to watch the QuickTime videos before, but now whenever I launch the videos in QuickTime I get the Error code 401. My teacher does not know whats wrong, because I do have authorization to watch the videos, I am just not sure how to go about it.

You may try updating the same as a standalone download.

How do I install FIREFOX 5.0? My online classes aren't compatible with anything higher tha 5.0

I need to have Firefox 5.0 on my computer. My online classes are not compatible with anything higher than 5.0. When I pull up the website to download, it will only give me the option of 7.0 and I DON'T WANT 7.0

If you want a beginner's book on InDesign, I recommend Sandee Cohen's InDesign Visual QuickStart Guide (Peachpit Press). For an advanced class, look for Real World InDesign (Peachpit Press).

After upgrading firefox I am unable to add attachments through an online class application. The application cannot see the files in my computer.

I am attending an online class through WSU Online. The course has its own internal email and electronic forums. I have to send essays daily to my instructor, and occassionally record comments on an application they call Wimba voice board. The day I upgraded the Firefox version I lost the capability to search for my computer files when trying to add an attachment, I also lost the access to the voice board.

I cannot load instructor files in CTU online classes

In my online classes at CTU (Colorado Technical University) I cannot open instructor files that they post. I was told to download Firefox, and I would be able to get them but I cannot.

What kind of files are that?
What happens if you try to download or open such a file?

When trying to add an attachment for my online class i cannot seem to see any of my computers files or documents

I am attending an online class through QCC Online. When I try to "add an attachment" from my files to submit an assignment, it will not let me see (or attach) any of my computers files or documents.

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache.
Note: ''This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to.''
To clear cache and cookies do the following:
#Go to Firefox > History > Clear recent history or (if no Firefox button is shown) go to Tools > Clear recent history.
#Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
#Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
#From the details list, check ''Cache'' and ''Cookies'' and uncheck everything else.
#Now click the ''Clear now'' button.

Can you do online classes with an Ipad 2?

I'm thinking of getting an Ipad 2 but I was unsure on whether or not you were able to log onto your online classes and complete them anytime anywhere? Also they have textbooks that you can read in class would you be able to read them on the ipad?

There are probably dozens of ways to do "online classes" over the internet, some will no doubt work with the iPad and some not. The iPad cannot do either Flash or Java, for example. Whether it will work with whatever it is you want to do is something you should check with the organization providing the class.
