Blackmagic Capturing

Hi together!
I have a big problem. I want to capture live from a Samsung HMX F90 to my hard drive. For that I am using a Blackmagic Intensity Extrem Device (Thunderbolt => for Mac).
I select the correct input connection (via HDMI) and then the correct output format (PAL) of my camera (At the Desktop Video Control panel & Premiere CS6). But its not working. Premiere still says: Capture Device Offline. And the screen stays black. Moreover the Samsung Cam turns off its Dispaly as soon as a plug it in the Blackmagic box.
I tried it also with a Nikon D90 (via HDMI/PAL or NTFS) but unfortunatly with the same result.
It is a realy big proglem for me because I need it.
Thanks,
WUSWU

Yes, Component is indeed not a better quality... Interesting because I did plug into a flatscreen, and I have nothing as well... So maybe it is the component out of the z1u that is not even working! Will try with another cable in case, but that may be the answer... Thank you for pointing that out! didn't even think about it...
I'm really trying to capture old HDV tapes, and always get those phantom breaks with Firewire (using another deck since it's broken on the z1u), now I'm wondering if you get less breaks doing 1080i or ProRes?? Although files are way bigger.

  • Blackmagic Capture Cards?

    Anyone using Blackmagic capture cards?
I have an Intensity Pro. Composite and s-video work fine. I
cannot get component working with a 720p or 1080i signal. FMLE
doesn't give me the option to select a resolution higher than
720x486. I haven't tested the HDMI input. Any ideas?
Maybe the problem is related to
    this
    post?

The video doesn't work for me.
I can get video output from the blackmagic media express software.
    set to 1080i 59.94
The control panel for the blackmagic is set to 720p HD to SD letterbox 16:9 downconvert....
But when I launch the FMLE i just get a blank screen.
I'm told there is an ACC plugin to fix the audio isssu.  HDMI is outputing sound at higher then 44100 so you need a plugin to deal with that...
But my probelm is with the video... I don't get a video stream....
Hell it would be nice if FMLE would support 1900x1080 and not make me mess around with all this....
    anyone hanve any ideas?

  • HD/SD Blackmagic Capture Card for G5 Quad Power PC

    Hi,
Can someone give me some advice on buying a good, reasonably priced capture card for my G5 powerpc quad. Its still running very well and I'd like to extend its professional use for a little bit
longer as I suspect that the next incarnation of desktops is possible months away.
I'm assuming a BlackMagic card is best suited due to my limited budget but I'm open to suggestion.

You haven't said what formats you're hoping to capture, but I'd imagine one of Blackmagic's Decklink cards would work for you (Intensity Pro is not compatible with non-Intel macs).
Pay attention to the hardware requirements though: http://blackmagic-design.com/support/detail.asp?techID=76

  • QT Broadaster from Blackmagic capture card?

Can QuickTime Broadcaster take input from Blackmagic's
capture card? Also, can Broadcaster work as an encoder
    source to Real's Helix server?
    Thank you,

Not if you are limited to sending back out HDV. The reconforming process is slow (as you have experienced).
in the for what it's worth category, this is why it's takes time.
Sony's version of HDV is formated into a 15 frame GOP (group of pictures). Simply put, this means there is one full frame (I frame) then 14 frames that reference the differences to the full frame. These reference frames do not contain full information and only make sense when compared to the last I frame and any intervening frames.
When you make a cut in this GOP, the chances are you are NOT editing on an I frame, you are cutting somewhere between them. This means FCP must generate an internal I frame at that point. As you can imagine this is an editing nightmare. That FCP gets it to work is truely a bit of wizardry.
When you are all done, FCP must re-conform the the footage, that is, generate a continuous 15 frame GOP structure from the beginning of the footage. Some I frames become reference frames and new I frames must be generated in the correct pattern. This is very computationally intensive and is totally dependent on processor speed.
So, If you want to speed up output to HDV, get a faster machine.
    good luck,
    x

  • Capturing device offline with BlackMagic DeckLink Quad

    Hi guys,
I have a problem capturing with a BlackMagic DeckLink Quad and Premiere Pro CS6. Capturing with the Blackmagic included Media Express software works fine.  However, Premiere Pro tells me that my capturing device is offline.
What I did to run the capture:
    Open Premiere Pro CS6
New project --> set capture to Blackmagic capture --> press ok
New sequence dialog --> select format exactly like specified in system control panel of BlackMagic (1080 25p).
Open capture dialog with F5 key.
Tells me that the capturing device is offline.
Controlling capturing properties for Blackmagic Capture and ensuring that they match the system control panel specs  and the specs used in the other software(1080 25p, Video Format: Motion JPEG)
Final State --> Premiere Pro still tells me that the capturing device is offline and I have a black window.
I read somewhere that the installation order of driver and Premiere Pro is important, therefore I tried already both constalations (Driver, Premiere Pro - Premiere Pro, Driver ) without any success. A driver update of the Declink Quad did not have any effect.
    Driver version:
Blackmagic DeckLink SDI - Date: 22.01.2015 Version: 13.4.10.868
Any help would be highly appreciated.

  • Blackmagic 10bit files not playing

I have two identical G5 2.7 macs running 10.4.4, 2.5Gig Ram, QT 7.04, FCP 4.5, extra Maxtor 6L300S0 internal drive and an sd Blackmagic capture card with the 4.8.1r2 drivers. Mac 'A' will playback 10bit captured files in QT (from Mac 'A' and 'B') no problem from both the boot drive and separate internal drive. Mac 'B' will not play back the 10bit files in QT on either drive though if I attach a small SSCI raid it works fine. The Blackmagic disk speed app gives pretty much the same results on both macs, so I know the drives are up to it. I have a done a reinstall of the Codec but still no joy.
    Any thoughts?

Well it could be - because this isn't normal behaviour. If you want to try this, there are instructions in this FAQ. If this makes no difference, then it will be something inherent in the program itself causing it, and I'd suggest uninstalling and reinstalling, and seeing if that re-establishes normality.

  • Premiere Pro CS5 not responding after 55 minutes of capture with intensity shuttle

Hi and thank you for the valuable resources on this forum.
I am capturing analogue video into Premiere Pro CS5 using he Blackmagic Intensity Shuttle (with Time Base Corrector in the video path).  My captures are stopping at 54 or 55 minutes when the computer becomes non responsive.  This has happened with the Blackmagic motion jpeg codec as well as the 10 bit YUV capture. Same thing happens if I capture with media express (the blackmagic capture software)
I have tweaked my system as per many of the recommendations in the forum.
Running CS5 5.03, autosave set to 10 minutes (same problem with no autosave or autosave at 20 minutes)
Windows 7 64 bit fully updated
    i7 - 930 cpu
    Gigabyte x58A - UDP5 (Revision 1)
    24 Gb Ram
Nvidia 470 - MSI with the twin Frozr cooling solution.
Restore off, indexing off, windows search off,
Followed tips from forum and Viper regarding optimizing system
    3 Hard drives
System on standard Sata 2 drive
Project capture to OCZ Vertex 3 120 g SSD drive (nice bit of gear) running on Sata 3 controller
Page file on another hard drive
    Norton 360 unistalled
Anything else I could find unistalled or turned off.
Firmware and drivers for on board USB latest from Driver Station as per Blackmagic Recommendations.
Very succesful capture of things shorter than 55 minutes but I have some longer things I would like to capture in one go.
I have used process explorer to watch what happens.  Nothing special that I can identify in terms of processes but cpu seems to be going to 100%.
With progessive tweaks the problems remains the same.
I am not aware of any file size limits with Premire Pro or Blackmagic - are there some?
Considering reinstall but would greatly appreciate any insights.  My first post so I hope I have provided the right info to help you help me.
    Thank you
    Andrew

Good that you got it fixed... bridging device drivers have cause problems clear back to the computer version of the stone ages
I still have a Pinnacle Dv500 card (used via dual-boot with WinXP and Premiere 6x) that went through several device driver versions to get everything working right
While everything is working right... make a full "picture" of your hard drive to external USB drive to make recovering easy in case something goes wrong
Hardware crashes or virus infections happen, so you should buy software to make a full
backup of your hard drive to an external USB hard drive... plus, making step-by-step
backups during a new install or major program addition makes it easy to go back a step
    if something doesn't work
This backup and then restore is, of course, only to the same computer with a new drive
(or the same drive as long as you don't mind writing over everything) since doing a
restore to a new computer won't work due to Windows and many programs having activation
information that is keyed to your hardware (which is why Windows will force you to RE-
Activate if you change very much hardware)
The product I use is at http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/image-for-linux.htm
Image runs off of a bootable CD via Linux (the Zip you download includes a program to
make the bootable CD) and it reads EVERYTHING on the drive, even the hidden
registration information, so everything is restored when needed... and you may restore
the image to a brand new drive in case of a crash, and not have to re-install anything
Please note that I own no part of Image, and I don't get a referral fee (that is just a
plain web link) but I use the program and it has saved me a LOT of trouble when I had a
hard drive die... and I was able to restore everything and not have to re-install or
re-activate a single program, from Windows on up

  • Premiere Pro CS3 Capture Problem with Audio

    Setup:
    Premiere Pro 3.2.0
Video Capture Device: Blackmagic Design Intensity Pro capture card
Audio Capture Device: HT Omega Claro Plus XP
    OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit
I am able to capture video with Premiere with no issues.  However, the audio does not get captured even though it is set to capture both audio and video.  I am configured for ASIO capture and playback.  Strange thing is that I can load Adobe Soundbooth and it will capture the audio just fine (from the same input stream as I'm trying to do with Premiere).  What gives?  I'm almost out of options.
From what I can see, when I hit F5 and go into capture mode, Premiere seems to insist that it must capture audio from the blackmagic design audio ports, and even though I have the audio explicitly setup for the Claro in audio hardware, if I go into the capture settings, it still is set on "Blackmagic Capture" as the capture format, and when I go to settings, I can pick the audio channels to capture, however.... I don't want to capture with the blackmagic for audio.   The capture format MUST be "Blackmagic Capture" or else I can't capture the video.  It still doesn't make sense though, since I have the audio hardware set for input from the claro ASIO.  It shouldn't force Blackmagic audio.
    Any ideas?  Please help

    Some additional information:
Sound card is a Claro Plus XT not XP.  Used to typing XP heh
Also, the video capture works with the included blackmagic capture software, as well as freeware solutions like VirtualDub and a Japanese freeware program I use.  I'm able to capture video and audio without issue on those.  Just don't know why Premiere doesn't do it...

  • Field Order When Capturing

    Hi all,
I have a slight issue when capturing in Premiere Pro CC. I am capturing NTSC footage from a VHS via the Blackmagic Intensity Shuttle for Thunderbolt. The capture process goes smoothly, in general. However, I have a slight issue with the field order.
When I capture the video through Blackmagic Media Express, the video captures lower field first, which should be correct, right? But when I capture in Premiere Pro, it captures as upper field first.
I have checked my capture settings within PP - it's setup for Blackmagic capturing. I'm capturing NTSC 4x3 at uncompressed 8-bit 4:2:2, which is the same that the Blackmagic software is capturing at. I cannot find an option for field order. I know that I can reinterpret the footage, but I prefer to capture correctly.
Can anyone shed any light on this?
    Thanks in advance.

Gotcha. The catch, for me at least, is that any videos I capture through Premiere will not play back on my NTSC monitor through my blackmagic device when played in Premiere. However, if I import footage captured in Blackmagic and drop that in a sequence, it plays back through the NTSC monitor fine.
    Oh well,
    Thanks for the help!
PS - Are you saying I should leave it as upper field first, rather than reinterpret to lower first?

Hello, sounds like Video card  and/or heat problems.
Have you blown the dust out lately? Let it cool for an hour or so.
Get Temperature Monitor to see if it's heat related...

    And/or iStat Pro...

One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode).

  • Blackmagic Decklink

I can't figure out how to use the Decklink studio card in Premiere Pro CS5.
I've installed the card and tested it out (their Media Express application sees video and I can capture within that).
However, when I start up CS5 I've followed their directions and when attempting to create a project and select Blackmagic Capture as the video capture format/source (per http://www.blackmagic-design.com/media/1034687/decklinkmacmanual.pdf page 37) I only get DV. I can't see anywhere else in the applcication where I can direct capture from or playback to the card.
Help! This should be real easy and I'm missing something basic.
FYI, I'm capturing analog NTSC right now but will likely be using SD-SDI and eventually HD-SDI.
    Thanks!
FYI, this is using the very latest drivers downloaded from the Blackmagic site (Desktop Video 9.1).

Uninstalled the 9.1 drivers, reinstalled with 9.2 (they were just released).
Now seeing the Blackmagic Capture as a format/source as per their documentation. Able to capture fine.
Will report back if there are further problems but hopefully not.

  • Blackmagic USB3 Ultrastudio Pro experience?

I understand from the "Blackmagic Capture Cards?" forum thread that there can be difficulties with Flash Media Live Encoder and some Blackmagic capture cards. But I don't see the newer USB3 based Black Magic Ultrastudio Pro beeing mentioned (in a positive OR negative way..).
Anyone having any experience or thoughts about this sollution?
From the Blackmagic download site, I see that in the driver update from 23 July 2010 (Blackmagic USB 3.0 Desktop Video 7.7.3 for Windows) they specify "Fixed compatibility issue with Flash Media Encoder 3.1" among the improvements. I'm optimistic because of this, and if it works well (read: stable) I would think is a flexible sollution for my next streaming setup, but I really need to hear more thoughts (and if possible experiences) in this.
    Any feedback apreciated!

    Hi everyone,
that was a very interesting thread and sorry for bringing it alive, but I am still facing an important issue with FMLE and Ultrastudio pro as a broadcaster.
I purchased the MSI GE620 recommended by blackmagic and updated the USB3.0 driver as requested, however no matter what I do in the settings (Blackmagic or Flash Media Live Encoder), I only get a still picture in my input/output widnows. If I disable them that makes no difference...
I am a clueless at that point, as I tried to broadcast live but there is simply no video feed (Composite).
    Can someone help me please?
    Many thanks,
    l.

  • Digitizing - loss of sync ver 6.0.3  blackmagic card

firstly hello everybody, this is my first post.
just wondering if anyone else had experienced loss of sync whilst digitizing on ver 6.0.3? we recently upgraded and have noticed the occasional loss of sync sometimes as bad as approx 4-5 secs. i use blackmagic cards, sdi inputs and the decks (j30/dvcam) have reference. you get no error messages and appears to happen at random times during capture, ie the top end of the media may appear fine but somewhere after half way the sync is lost. as we were going onto xsan i pretty much doubt it was a drive speed issue, i thought it to be a bug with 6.0.3 as when i rolled back to ver 6.0.1 i did'nt experience these issues. however i uninstalled + re-installed the blackmagic drivers a few times, on some vers the blackmagic capture presets would'nt appear in the capture tool! i eventually went back to vers 6.7.1 and it appeared to capture ok however just wondering if anyone else had this issue as at the time it caused me a fair bit of grief. cheers.

You do not use the 'Import' function under the File Menu to import P2 card content because the video content is still in its native form. For example, my Panasonic HPX 171 produces .MXF video files (amongst all the other files and folders within the overall heirarchy).
In order to access the copied P2 information you have to Log & Transfer it, as if it were a camera plugged into the computer. This process then converts the MXF P2 files into a Quicktime format that the Final Cut application can read and work with.
Take note that when archiving a P2 card as you did it is imperative that ALL the other files and folders are copied and saved. In other words, the entire 'CONTENTS' folder. It is this 'CONTENTS' folder that you navigate to within Log & Transfer when you want to import to FCP.

  • Multiple Capture Cards not Supported in Premier?

    Hello,
I have a PC running Windows Pro7.  The PC has two Blackmagic Designs Quad Decklink capture cards and an Intensity Pro capture card for a total of 9 capture inputs.
I need Premier Pro to capture video from Decklink (8) which is one of the inputs on one of the Quad Decklink cards.
This input works great in Blackmagic Media Express, Video mixing software and other capture software.
Premier Pro recognizes only 1 Blackmagic capture device, the Intensity pro.  It seems to work great but this input is HDMI only.  I need to input to the SDI on the Decklink Quad card.
I called BMD tech support and they told me that this is a fault of Premier Pro.  They said that Premier randomly pics from the available BMD capture devices and chooses one.  He said that if I power down and then power back up that I may very well find that the Intensity Pro no longer works but one of the other BMD capture devices might start working.  He said the only solution was to caputre video in a different software such as BMD Media Express.
I really need to capture in Premier Pro to optimize my workflow.  I don't have time in my live production to import a 3 hour auto racing event into Premier Pro.  If I can capture in Premier on the fly, I can go right into post production once the race is finished.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Import only takes seconds, so there should not be any problem capturing with the BM software.
The only alternative I can think of is to remove the devices that you don't want to use, so that only one is available for PP.
