Blackmagic Cinema 4K

I would like to buy the Blackmagic Cinema 4K (video camera) and be able to edit the videos in Adobe Premiere in a 12-Core MacPro. Is it possible and easy? I am asking since the blackmagic camera has an "Apple ProRes 422 (HQ)". Thanks

Food for thought:

Hello, My name is Oudom. From Cambodia. I'm using BlackMagic Cinema Camera 2.5k. and my Premiere Pro CC does not seem handle (Playback) the 2.5k Raw file smoothly. m not sure if i miss something installed or my spec doesnt good enough
So here is my PC Spec:
    Windows 8.1 Pro
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3930K CPU @ 3.20GHz  3.20 GHz
    RAM 32GB
    GPU: Quadro K4000
    Motherboard: ASRock X79 Extreme6
    with DeckLink 4K Extreme
If this Requirement cant Handle 2.5k Raw File. is there any workflows to work out this ?

Sorry for late replied, I'm using Decklink but I didnt use DeckLink to send video out to an external monitor, just using VGA to send video out.
The content files are on internal drive
    TOSHIBA DT01ACA300 3TB 7200 RPM
I have another question. you said if i'm using the decklink to send video out to an external monitor, you want me to disable transmit and see if the video plays smoothly within premiere ? is it not people that buy decklink just to do that ? I thought using monitor output from decklink could do better performance. and its the reason I buy decklink. I'm sorry but i'm still new to these things.
Please explain me more about this, I need to work with RAW files everyday. I need to run the videos very smooth. what do i need to do? or because of my CPU is just i7 ? do i need to use like Xeon to run it smoothly ?? please help me I'm so lost

Yes it's possible, If you want to test 4k footage from the BMCC, you can easily find some for download on the internet. Premiere can handle ProRes with ease.
The only bug I have found, is that when I reduce from 50% a 4k video inside a 1080 p sequence, it  play it at 100 % and not 50% size if you are not in full quality.

  • How can I import cinema dng files in Premiere Pro CC?

    Hi,
I wanna use Blackmagic Cinema DNG 4k RAW files for my productions in Premiere. As specified by Adobe that schould be no problem.
When I import the dng-folder or a list of *.dng files they are displayed in assets view as single photos. How can I create a video track from these "photo batches" in the sequence window?
Much thanks in advance for any help !!!
    Cheers Peer

Good Peer, glad that solves the import problem for you. I suspect the next version of Premiere CC might not have its import path split with two different results as such.
Back in CS6 I was importing all media through the Project bin. Then with the first Premiere CC, compressed dng from the bmpcc became supported (I think your 4K just became supported recently). So, with the new CC, I kept importing all files through the project bin, and that resulted in hours of import time, and the same hours of re-conforming the same files every time I re-opened the project. And, the same hours of time direct linking into Speedgrade (by the way I love Resolve also).
Then, months later, I heard of importing through the Media Browser and all that time melted away into instantaneous import and quick direct link to Speedgrade.
If you have any projects with dng sequence files imported through the Project bin, I do not remember the exact procedure, it is simple though, just 'make offline' and almost certain it is 'replace footage' to properly Media Browser imported video.

  • AVCHD 24P Cinema mode not importing correctly

    Hey,
I have posted a few times about this issue, and each time I get a little closer to solving the problem. I am hoping this is the final time.
I have a Panasonic AVCHD HDC-SD9 Hi Def video camera. I recorded a comedy show of mine the other night, and when I try to import the footage into FCP, the audio and video don't sync.
After many troubleshooting experiments, I figured out that the audio is importing at the correct rate, but the video is not.
The video was shot in "24p Cinema Mode" I shot some "bs" footage both with this mode on and this mode off. Whenever it was on the footage would be imported at 24fps and the audio would get out of sync. Whenever this mode was OFF, the footage would import at 29.98 fps and everything will be fine.
I really feel I am just missing something simple like a drop down menu option or something, but just can't figure it out. Any help will be appreciated.

To be very clear, for this 7.1 release, we are only supporting CinemaDNG media from the Blackmagic Camera. No other format is being supported at this time. The pink overlay problem with DNG derived from Canon RAW media is a known issue.
We are currently in discussions of how to expand our CinemaDNG support going forward, and user input is a vital factor. Nonetheless, Premiere support for the CinemaDNG format is different from the support in other Adobe applications. For more on this, see the section "Enhanced BlackMagic Cinema Camera support" at this link:

  • Choppy Playback of Blackmagic ProRes in Premiere CC

    Hi there,
I'm editing a friend's short film, shot on the Blackmagic Cinema to ProRes files. In standalone Quicktime, outside of Premiere, the files play seamlessly, but in the Premiere CC project, Source and Program Monitors, the clips are choppy/frame-dropping, even at 1/4 resolution.
I've edited countless shorts and features on this system - Canon 5D, 7D, Scarlet, C300 - and I've never experienced choppy playback. Any advice on how to nix this? Quicktime is fully updated, and, like I said, the files play perfectly in actual Quicktime.
    Thanks!

  • Media Encoder CC // Red Giant Denoiser II

    Hello there,
i've got the following Problem: I am having Premiere CC and used the Red Giant Plug-In Denoiser II on my last project, when i import this project to the Media Encoder and select Quicktime for output, the Media Encoder won't render the clip with this Plug-In. i always get the original files out, without the denoiser.

no windows, footage is cinemaDNG 2,5k RAW from Blackmagic Cinema Camera.

  • Adobe Camera Raw in Premier Pro. This is a good idea for CinemaDNG files.

Adobe, I will be cool if the was a ARC plugin in premier pro. Here is a simpler solution. I own in Blackmagic cinema camera, but my BMD LOG camera profiles are in After Effects. I like to grade from LOG profiles. In a test, in premier I imported my DNG files and edit. Then replaced with After effects comp, when after effects opened ACR opened. BUT it just opened the first file not the whole sequence!!!!!!!!!!!.
    to clarify
    1. import DNG sequence in premier and edit
    2. select edits and open as comp in After effects
    3. ACR opens, I edit as normal in ACR  (IT ONLY EDIT THE FIRST FRAME IN SEQUENCE) which it only shows.
if you allow us to select all frames and sync and save like ACR in Bridge that would be dope!
Plus go back in premier and make edits, that would be cooler.
or the coolest is to just have a ACR plugin for premier pro.

ohh, yes, it's will be nice..

  • No prores422 Quicktime icon preview in finder OSX Mavericks

I upgraded to Mavericks osx 10.9 and now I no longer get a thumbnail preview on my prores quicktime files in the finder o. I do get a preview with any other type of quicktime codecs the only affected files are prores files. I shoot a lot on the blackmagic cinema camera and it's not good for me just to see a Q on those thumbnails. I'm a Final Cut Pro X user so I have the proper codecs to view the files. I have tried the view options and it does not affect Prores files. I've also downloaded the latest codecs from apple. So I want to know I'm I the only person this is happening to? I'm thinking I may need to reinstall mavericks but before I do that I need to know if anyone else is experiencing this? I have attached a screen capture to illustrate what I'm talking about. Quicklook does still work on the prores files but I need that thumbnail.

I've tried reinstalling Mavericks and I'm still having this issue. I'm considering wiping my drive and going back to Mountain lion. Qucktime player in Mavericks seems to suck. I'm having several other issues playing back older quictime files. Most play in Quicktime 7 but a lot have no quicklook previews. The sheer volume of prores files I shoot makes this extremely inconvenient for me. How can Apple not support their own Codec????

  • Editing a DNG file and saving it again as DNG using Photoshop

    Hi everyone,
I have a set of .dng raw images which I would like to edit using Photoshop and save back out as .dng files.  It sounds like a very simple task, but I have been struggling with this for half a day.
To give a concrete example, I have two dng images from the same camera. I want to copy an object from one image and paste it to the other, and then save out the output as a .dng file.  This should take me like 2 minutes in Photoshop, right?
Well, when I open the files, it first brings up the Adobe Camera Raw tool, but this only lets me do very basic edits (I can't figure out how to copy an object from one image to another, let alone perform the necessary edits to blend them seamlessly.).
So I click "Open Image" to get them into Photoshop, where I can do all of my necessary edits (copy and paste, brushes, etc.).  However, after I am finished and I try to save my edits, Photoshop only lets me save the output in .psd (along with other formats) but not dng.  I need to save it back out as .dng, as the next program in our workflow pipeline requires .dng files as input.  So how do I do this simple task?
Why can't I save my resulting image back out as a .dng file?  I tried saving as .psd and then using Adobe DNG converter to turn it into a dng, but it doesn't seem to be able to do that.  I also tried saving as Photoshop RAW, but for some reason the converter can't convert from Photoshop RAW to DNG.  It doesn't make any sense to me.
I know that Photoshop knows my camera parameters because it was able to read the original dng files properly in the first place.  So why can't I read in the .dng image make some edits and then save it?  How are people editing dng files?
    Thanks for your help.

Also, there is no way to turn an image back into raw image data after it has been edited in Photoshop. It would be as difficult as uncooking an egg.
I understand that this is difficult if I am doing arbitrary image editing operations, since those operations may not be properly defined in the RAW space.  But in this case I am cloning pixels from one .dng image to another.  Shouldn't this be possible?
For example, assume we have 2 dng images and we want to take the left half of one and paste it in the same position over the other.  I am not familiar with the dng spec, but at some level it should encode the values at each pixel (perhaps with the appropriate camera curve).  So I just simply want to overwrite the values of one .dng image with values at the same pixels of the other, and since it's the same camera with the same settings used for both this should be possible, right?  In the worst case, I could write a program based on the DNG spec that parses the two dng files, overwrites the necessary pixel information simply using the second image's data, and then writes the dng back out.  But this seems like a complicated way to do something that there should be an Adobe tool to do.
Perhaps it would help if I tell you exactly why I need this for.  We are capturing raw video using the Blackmagic Cinema Camera which outputs a directory full of 2.5k dng images for each take.  We were doing a take of a scene using a tripod, but an otherwise great take was ruined because at one point a crew member poked their head into frame.   So I want to use information from the other dng frames to overwrite this portion of this image to hide this problem.
If these were regular images (.jpg, .tif, .exr) it would take us no time in Photoshop to use the information from the other "good" frames to fix this problem seamlessly.  However, we would like to keep everything in dng format so that I can then read everything into DaVinci Resolve for color grading correctly.   Any idea on how I can do this, if I can't use Photoshop?
Thank you in advance for your help!

  • Unable to Import .MOTN Files into DVDPro4

I am going thgough the tutorial video that comes with DVDPro4. It says to import all of the files in the Training DVD's Assetts Folder. Everything is imported, except for the two .MOTN files. It says "Cannot import 2 files. The files' formats are not supported."
In the Training video, these same two files get imported along with everything else.
Any idea why this is happening?
    Thx,
    Mike

Jim is Correct. Here's the official statement:
Uncompressed Cinema DNG from Blackmagic Cinema Cameras
Import and edit uncompressed Cinema DNG media (or ProRes or DNxHD media) from Blackmagic Cinema Cameras. Cinema DNG can be debayered on a supported GPU for extreme playback performance.
    http://www.adobe.com/products/premiere/extend.html#Supportedvideoformats
With that said you may still be able to import certain non Blackmagic CNDG files but they are not officially supported. Are focus for this release was Blackmagic Cinema DNG support and debaryed GPU accelerated.

As a guy coming from a 8 year old 3,1 MacPro into PCs I need a bit of help evaluating all the different combinations when it comes to building a PC.
I'm woking in CC mainly with After Effects and Premiere. In AE I'm working with Element 3D/optical flares, getting into some C4D.
Premiere mainly with HD and Blackmagic cinema dng & prores. Working with some 4k Red footage. Additional CC applications but After Effects and Premiere are the main concern. Also, hoping to use Resolve, but haven't.
I'm not going to be building it myself, there is a computer place that will be assembling and this was their suggested build with parts that they usually use with workstations along with some of my input from looking online. I think the vast amount of work they do is for gamers, and since I won't be gaming at all I want to make sure this is a solid work machine.
