Blackmagic Intensity HDMI cards and FCP

I was hoping someone has had a chance to try out or see the new HDMI blackmagic Intensity cards? I have a 1.25 DP G4 and am trying to monitor
my HDV video though a CRT HDTV, but don't have the $ for the more expensive cards (Kona, etc...).
This card is HDMI but less than half the cost. I fear, though that my old
G4 will not accomodate the card. Thanks in advance for your time.

It appears to be PCIExpress card:
Installation:
PCI Express 1 lane, compatible with 1,4,8,16 lane PCI Express slots

I don't believe your G4 is a PCIExpress Mac:

  • Which slot for Intensity HDMI card?

I plan on adding an X1900 XT and a 3ware RAID card.
Which slot should I put a BlackMagic Intensity HDMI card into?

I love it when I can actually answer something for someone other than make suggestions.
Les, the Intensity and Intensity Pro card works best (and awesomely) when installed in the TOP slot of your Mac Pro. X1900xt occupies the bottom and your RAID card can sit at second to top (that's where my SATA card is sitting right now). Black Magic support and I discussed this as I was getting lousy performance in another slot.
Also, reminder, if you are using your Intensity to monitor to an HD LCD (or other HDMI tv) be sure to turn on the TV BEFORE you boot up Final Cut for best results.
    cheers and enjoy that card!

  • Soundtrack Pro with Blackmagic Intensity Pro Card

    Hi
Just wondering if anyone was using STP with the Blackmagic Intensity Pro card to monitor video on a TV?
If so, whta are your experiences and especially does STP allow you to continue using your selected audio device (MOTU Ultralite over Firewire for me) while viewing your Quicktimes on the TV.
    Thanks in advance

    Hey Bill
Thanks for getting back so quick! No, I've checked the audio/midi and the default audio device is my MOTU Ultralite firewire interface - even when the default output is set to the mac's internal speaker, once you select the external video it mutes the output.
I can still see levels withing STP as if the audio is playing. There is an official Apple Support document about audio not working when you are using external video to firewire and it says that it is a bug that can be bypassed by setting your bus to surround (1-6) instead of stereo (1-2) but this has no effect for me )-:
Would love to know if it works for you! and if so, what way you have things configured
    Thanks

  • Blackmagic intensity pro card

    Hey there,
I'm trying to use the blackmagic intensity pro card to capture some audio out a tascam dat deck but can't seem to get the audio to come in. I've resorted to using a y audio cable to go into the macs input. Seems to be working ok but i would like to use the blackmagic for better quality. My capture preset is set to intensity dv capture with the rca input selected. Any ideas?
    Thanks

Here's my situation at work. I have a MacPro ProTools HD workstation that uses the onboard video card to send my desktop to two LCD monitors (lots of pallets, running multiple apps). In order to view the Quicktime file during client sessions, I want to send it (full screen mode) to the 50" plasma that hangs in the room (ie. a third display). I'm using the Blackmagic Intensity Pro card to do this, but it doesn't seem to have "extended desktop" options, even though the sales guy said it did.
My only other option (no other cards seem to work in this config) is to ditch the two LCDS for a single Cinema Display and run the plasma as a second display.
    Help!

  • Problem with video capture with Blackmagic Intensity Pro card

I have just installed a blackmagic Intensity Pro card to download analogue VCR tapes to DVD. I have set all the input parameters to the Blackmagic card in both Premiere and the input routine for the card. I am using the breakout cable for NTSC input with the green Y input for the video and the L & R audio inputs. When I try to capture I get snow in the premiere capture window, but it does record the L & R audio. When I stop the tape deck I momentarily get the blue screen with STOP showing and then back to snow. I am hoping it is just a setting somewhere but where????
The computer is running Vista 32 home premium with 3G ram
    Comments very welcome

Is there a BlackMagic setting required to tell the driver to see the green as composite rather than component?

  • Blackmagic Intensity Pro Card - Best Use With HDV

    Hello
Given the choice should I use my Blackmagic Intensity card on my Mac Pro to capture HDV footage via HDMI or YUV Component. Or should I stick to firewire.
The card was initially bought for realtime previewing whilst editing HDV footage in FCP. My plans are to connect the card to a 21" LCD monitor via HDMI connections.
One of the Panasonic reps told me to stick with YUV as it does not compress the footage during the transfer stage as much as firewire?
    Is this true?

With all due respect, your Panny rep was on crack.
Capturing over Firewire — whether it's DV or HDV — is a raw-data-stream copy from the tape. It's not actually a video operation at all; the signal is in no way changed. It's just copied from the tape directly into your computer.
Going out of your camera or deck via the component analog ports will give you lower-quality results than transferring over Firewire. Whether you can tell the difference depends on what kind of footage you're capturing.
Another point to keep in mind is that HDV is 1440x1080 with non-square pixels. Capturing it either via HDMI or component analog scales the footage to 1920x1080, introducing some softness in the image. This softness is even worse in the chroma channels, since HDV is only 4:2:0 to begin with. It's better by far to keep your footage in its native format throughout the editing process. If you're going back out to an HD digital master or to an HD tape, you can decide whether to scale to 1920 at that point. If you're shooting on HDV to deliver on SD DVD or over the Internet at less-than-full HD resolution, you're better off staying in 1440x1080 forever, never scaling up to 1920, and just doing a single down-scale at the end.

  • Blackmagic Intensity Pro card in MacPro 1,1 (2006) install tip

I've just spent a few hours trying to get my new Blackmagic Intensity Pro PCIe card to work with FCPX on my old MacPro 1,1 and finally got it running to my external SD PAL TV so here's what worked and what didn't:
After installing the card it was visible in the system report but I downloaded the latest Blackmagic software 'Desktop Video 9.7' and it didn't work - the System Prefs pane was all greyed out and no driver installed for the card
    Also not visible to FCPX
SOLUTION: Download version 9.6.9 in the archived drivers section of blackmagicdesign.com/support site and install that instead. Seems that version 9.7 breaks support for the older MacPro.

This is the Final Cut Studio forum. Post this in the FCP X forum where it might be of relevance.

  • Blackmagic Intensity 3.0 and CS4

I just installed the new 3.0 driver for my blackmagic intensity to use it with CS4.
    Now I have two problems:
    1. My sound card (on board Asus Rampage Extreme) is not running anymore. After I deactivate blackmagic audio in the vista device manager it runs again.
    2. Even when I deactivate the blackmagic audio driver (see above), in a CS4 project (blackmagic settings chosen) the sound is only available via hdmi, not via sound card. Even if I choose 'Premiere WDM sound' in preferences / audio hardware the sound is only available via hdmi. The sound card works well in a standard CS4 project.
    Any ideas?

  • Multiple Video Cards and FCP

I'm looking at getting a mac pro, and I'm wondering if there is any point to getting multiple video cards (2x NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 512MB).
I've been editing in FCP on a G5 for years now, and only had one video card.
Does the current version of FCP7 utilize them? Or does any of the other Studio software utilize them?
And if FCP7 does take advantage of multiple cards, where am I going to notice the difference if I add multiple cards... rendering? exporting? playback?
    Any advice would be great!

We see this topic in various forms about weekly.
FCP does not use multiple cards. In fact, FCP really doesn't take advantage of a single card's GPU. But Motion does, which means if you have .motn files in your FCP project, you may see some kind of boost.
I don't know anything about the 120 but, personally, I will never buy another nvidia card. The minimum for Motion would be the Radeon 4870.
FCPv5 and v6 had issues with some FxPlug filters supplied with Motion if you had multiple monitors plugged into multiple cards but not of you had multiple monitors plugged into a single card. This got fixed in FCP7.

  • No hdmi devices detected on HD TV with blackmagic intensity card

Im on my Macpro - 2x3 GHz Qaud-Core Intel Xeon with 8GB ram OS 10.5.8
I have installed a Blackmagic Intensity PCI card and using the HMDI connection to my Sony Bravia 21 inch HD TV so i can monitor HD footage for FCP 7 . When i=I go to HDMI setup on the TV I get the message "no hdmi devices detected" with blackmagic intensity card.
Anyone have any ideas or come across this before?

Make sure FCP is running and that you have chosen View menu > External Video > All Frames and the appropriate Blackmagic Intensity preset from the View menu > Video Playback presets.

  • HDMI Hard Disk Recorder to Blackmagic Intensity Pro

I have a hard disk recorder (HDR) with an HDMI out. I am wondering if I can run that through a Blackmagic Intensity Pro card and pull ProRes 422 or DVCPro HD from it. (I know the card working in both formats) I'm wondering about the HDR interacting with the card.
Card looks great, we are hot to buy it, if this could work! Thanks for the help.
    Sean

It probably will not work. All HDMI output devices are to have HDCP support except Camcorders. The Intensity HDMI inputs do not support HDCP. Look in the literature of your HDR and look for HDCP. If it supports HDCP them you are out of luck.

  • Blackmagic Intensity Pro Video Card

I am in need of a HDTV/HDMI video out solution when playing back Quicktime movies in Logic Pro 8. Can anyone report success with the Blackmagic Intensity Pro card? Or are there better alternatives (besides Firewire out).
    Thanks.

    hi,
ihave bought it and am using it with my quadcore g5 2.5 ..
for now i switched back to canopus because its much more stable and not
"touchy" when i jump around in the timeline...
but this may have a lot of other reasons ..
with finalcut its very nice ans stable, i think the drivers have been written
to be compatible with fcp rather than logic.
I wantd to have the picture for an HD Movie in Llogic but now i prfe to have
    stability,
    bets regards,

  • Blackmagic Intensity Pro and G5 2.3?

    Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone knows first hand if the Blackmagic Intensity Pro card will work with my Power Mac G5 dual 2.3 (has PCI express) with 256MB video card? I realize it is not supported but found this report of it working fine for someone with a dual 2.0: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6149954&#6149954
    Anyway, thanks for your help!

Your particular model of G5 is PCIe, which the Intensity requires; other model G5s are PCIx, and so wouldn't work, but the card should be fine with yours.
