BlackMagic Multi Bridge Pro. Vs. Kona 3

I am looking to purchase a new HD Capture Card for my edit suite.
Currently I am using the BlackMagic 6.6.2 SD card. I have been looking at the Blackmagic Multi Bridge Pro and the Kona 3.
It looks like the Blackmagic card connects to its breakout box using a PCI Express Connection rather then the Mini HD SDI connectors on the Kona3. Is there a benefit to one over the other? Also can you capture your footage using Pro Res with both cards?
Within a lot of the posts that I have read I have been steered towards getting the Kona3, if anyone knows why this would be a better choice then the BlackMagic Multi Bridge could you fill me in.
Thanks!
Jesse

The Kona 3 can upconvert SD to 720p and 1080i. THe Decklink can only upconvert SD to 1080i.
The Kona 3 can cross convert 720p 23.98 to 1080p 23.98 upon output...in real time. So DVCPRO HD 720p24 to HDCAM 1080psf23.98. The Decklink cannot.
The Kona 3 does not have Analog inputs...the Decklink does. For that, you will need the HD10AVA adapter.
Or get the AJA I/O HD...it does absolutely EVERYTHING but uncompressed 4:4:4 HD or 4:2:2 HD. IT will do Pro Res and DVCPRO HD, but it cannot capture uncompressed HD. No biggie for some. But...just letting ya know.

  • I want to use my Black magic Multi-Brigde Pro with Premiere. That is possible correct?

I want to use my Black magic Multi-Brigde Pro with Premiere. That is possible correct?

    Hi PragueGolem.
Yes, it's possible to use the Blackmagic Multibridge Pro with Premiere but it's also complicated to use the card with video and audio together.
I use a mac pro with the Multibridge Pro 1 and need to use an audio card too, because the card makes always problems with audio in Premiere CC.
In the audio hardware settings tab you have no selection possibility for the card. You have to select your standard system audio and to route this in Premiere. In your system audio panel you have the multibridge as standard card set.
Only for a short time it was possible for me to use the card with audio and video but after the last Premiere update I have to use the audio card again. I spend to much time in optimize my system to work well with the card and heard to many people have trouble with Premiere CC and the Multibridge Pro Card. In Premiere Pro it wasn't a problem at all...

    Flo.

    Hi
Can anyone help to troubleshoot why PST Bridge Pro keeps on crashing after the installation of the application and pst files were imported. Once I re-open it an error screen comes up giving the option to either "Keep References" or "Remove References".

  • Blackmagic Design Intensity Pro HDMI card

Hey I work with Final Cut Pro 6.0.5 on a Mac Pro OS x 10.5.7, and we are looking into getting a Blackmagic Design Intensity Pro HDMI card. I'm just looking for assurances that these cards do work with my version of final cut pro, and any tips or tricks to installing and working with them.
    Thanks,
    Tim McDonald

I have the Intensity, didn't need the pro. The card works, though sometimes flakey. Audio always work fine when playing through HDMI to monitor (if monitor has speakers) but video is hit or miss. While it does work more often than not, there are times when I have to sit and keep switching the resolution output from 720/60, to 720/59.94 to 1080i/59.94 and so on just to get a picture. It's annoying and honestly sometimes it takes 5 minutes to get it work.
Blackmagic's awesome support told me the reason I was having problems was because I had a cheap HDMI cable. Apparently it works flawlessly all the time with Monster $150 HDMI cables. Bulls...
Make sure you have the newest Blackmagic software. I believe they are on version 3.2.

  • Has anyone used the Black-Magic Design Multi Bridge?

Currently I have a Black Magic Multi Bridge Extreme. It works, but there seems to be an issue with a very (hot) running unit. The fan is running (very loud I might add), and does seem to cool down the unit, just a bit. If there is anyone using this or simular unit, could you provide some feed back. Thanks

I do have an issue when I turn on the TV and wake the Mini from sleep... the screen stays really dim. Not sure if it's the Mini or the TV that's the issue. After the Mini is fully on... a power cycle of the TV seems to bring everything back to normal.
Brett, I have the same problem when I bring the mac out of sleep mode. Have you managed to find out why we have to switch the TV Off then On again to get the picture? Or another solution? Very annoying when you have 1000's $ worth of equipment but the solution is still "Have you tried switching it Off and On again" (All due respects to the "IT CROWD").

  • Blackmagic hyperdeck studio pro bad video with FMLE

I'm using a Blackmagic Hyperdeck Studio Pro over thunderbolt to get video into my iMac.  Using the Ustream interface, the incoming video looks perfect.  But using Adobe FMLE, it looks pretty terrible.  Jerky motion, all sorts of graininess and noise.  Any ideas?  I've tried just about every FMLE setting I can try.
Also, sort of OT to the above issue...anyone know of a way to run 2 instances of FMLE on the same Mac?

There is no way on a Mac laptop to run two instances of FMLE and make it work with a single video input source.  Its not the software, as much as it is a hardware sharing resource conflict.
You could build a PC and install a single Viewcast Osprey Video Card that has SimulStream software enabled (700e).  Or simply install two identical cards in a PC box.  We do this in my commercial webcast oprations here in Silicon Valley.  Takes a Core i7 box to run 2 or even 3 instance of FMLE with HD inputs.  Dual core anything can barely run standard def encodes safely.

QuickTime is still a 32 bit process and the 64 bit PP has to use a sort of "band-aid" to make QuickTime files work right.  It's possible that might slow things down.

  • Blackmagic USB3 Ultrastudio Pro experience?

I understand from the "Blackmagic Capture Cards?" forum thread that there can be difficulties with Flash Media Live Encoder and some Blackmagic capture cards. But I don't see the newer USB3 based Black Magic Ultrastudio Pro beeing mentioned (in a positive OR negative way..).
Anyone having any experience or thoughts about this sollution?
From the Blackmagic download site, I see that in the driver update from 23 July 2010 (Blackmagic USB 3.0 Desktop Video 7.7.3 for Windows) they specify "Fixed compatibility issue with Flash Media Encoder 3.1" among the improvements. I'm optimistic because of this, and if it works well (read: stable) I would think is a flexible sollution for my next streaming setup, but I really need to hear more thoughts (and if possible experiences) in this.
    Any feedback apreciated!

    Hi everyone,
that was a very interesting thread and sorry for bringing it alive, but I am still facing an important issue with FMLE and Ultrastudio pro as a broadcaster.
I purchased the MSI GE620 recommended by blackmagic and updated the USB3.0 driver as requested, however no matter what I do in the settings (Blackmagic or Flash Media Live Encoder), I only get a still picture in my input/output widnows. If I disable them that makes no difference...
I am a clueless at that point, as I tried to broadcast live but there is simply no video feed (Composite).
    Can someone help me please?
    Many thanks,
    l.

  • BlackMagic and MacBook Pro

    Hi
I wounder if there is a BlackMagic card that can be connected to the new MacBook Pro - with FW or with ExpressCard 3/4.
I want to output video signal from Final Cut Pro to an external monitor, and to capture footage into the FCP.
    Thanks
    Roi

I heard someone say those boxes don't always work. I have no idea where I heard that but I've had that same site bookmarked for years, since the MBPs first came out. I've heard great things about the I/O HD and especially the MXO2 since it can be battery operated. I didn't hear about the I/O Express announcement, so it'd be curious to see how it stacks up to the MXO2 and of course it's big brother the I/O HD.

  • QoS in multi-bridge network

    Hi,
In a point-to-multipoint bridge network (1 bridge as root the others as non-root) bandwidth is shared equally. Is there a way to let for instance one non-root bridge have 4 Mbps and the other non-root bridge 2 Mbps?
    Thanks,
    Joost Koopmans

The simplest answer is to set the non-roots that should have the highest data rate to Basic/Basic/Yes/Yes on the 1/2/5.5/11 settings and those that should get less bandwidth at Basic/Basic/Yes/No.

  • Can I use a Blackmagic Design Intensity Pro HDMI card in a Mac Pro 1.1?

I am looking for a video capture card. Cna I use this?

PCIe fine. But you need to use 8x probably to work properly.
It doesn't need EFI64 and PCIe 2.0 is backward compatible.

  • 6 monitors?

I want to take advantage of the Mercury render engine in CS 5.5. I currently run a Jaton Radeon HD 3450 Video PX3-9-Quad (driving 4 monitors) in the PClex16 slot on my 'ASUS P6TD Deluxe x58 1366 R' motherboard. I have two more open slots that are for PCIe 2.0 x16. Could I place a 'PNY VCQ2000D-PB Quadro 2000D 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 Workstation Video Card' in one of the Pcle 2.0x16 slots to take advantage of the mercury render engine... and also keep the Radeon card driving 4 monitors. The new PNY card (on the Adobe approved list – Quatro 2000D) would drive an additional two monitors (total of 6 monitors). Would this work?  (I need lots of real estate.....) Editing in HD is painfully slow.....
Additional info of my edit system: 24 GB memory, Win 7 64 bit, Raid 0 video storage, 5 internal SATA 300 hard drives (3 TB), Black Magic Multi-Bridge Pro unit, Intel i7 950 3.07 GHz processor.
    David Kelley

Well...here is what happened. I installed the Nvidia GTX570 card in PCI express x16 slot.... and the ATI Radeon HD 3450 card in an empty PCI express 2.0x16 slot... downloaded all the latest drivers, set up 6 monitors the NVidia driving the main & second monitor, the ATI driving the other 4.... results - the blue screen of death every 3-4 minutes, even when the computer was just setting idle. So I have now pulled the ATI card and ordered another GTX570 card. This will limit me to 4 monitors (unless I get the Matrox Dualhead2go unit,... not cheap). Another problem was the Mercury engine defaulted to software only mode, even though the GTX570 card was installed. So... I guess mixing video card manufacturers is not a good idea... but boy, those six 20" monitors sure gave a lot of real estate!!!

  • FCP capture problem with Blackmagic Intensity Pro

I just installed a Blackmagic Intensity Pro and I am having problems capturing in Final Cut Pro 6. I have a Sony VCR/DVD player with a HMDI out connection that works fine when connected to my TV. The video setting on the VCR/DVD are 720P. In FCP I have chosen the “Blackmagic HDTV Intensity Pro 720P 60 Uncompressed” capture/input setting. If I unplug the HDMI cable from the VCR/DVD and plug it back in I see the video for about 4 seconds and then just a gray screen. I have tried several video tapes all with the same results.
    Any suggestions?
    Dennis

I am having the same problem. I edit reels and was trying to use the higher quality HDMI input to capture video from my DVD player for client's video reels.
I could be mistake, but I do 'recall' hearing that you cannot record HDMI video (copyright issues) but only play back HDMI. We may be stuck using component.
Intensity Pro's website only mentions recording HDMI video from a camcorder with an HDMI output.
Maybe someone will clear this up for us with a definite answer. I have put a request in to Blackmagic support and will let you know what they say.

  • FMLE + blackmagic intensity pro: Cannot adjust framerate

Using FMLE with blackmagic design intensity pro on windows 7 professional with 720p60 input, I am unable to adjust framerate from the default input value.
I want to set framerate to 30fps but the encoded output (H.264/VP6) is always 60fps.
Using ffmpeg along with bmdcapture tool, I am able to encode 500kbps, 30fps correctly.
Following are some of the FMLE configuration settings I have tried with Intensity pro:
    1. Input=1280x720, Framerate=30fps, bitrate=500kbps, output size=720x576.
Result observed on statistics screen and also verified by dumping the content: output bitrate=1Mbps, Framerate=60fps.
    2. Input=1280x720, Framerate=60fps, bitrate=500kbps, output size=720x576.
Result observed on statistics screen and also verified by dumping the content: output bitrate=500kbps, Framerate=60fps.
The output framerate remains unchanged irrespective of the framerate we request from FMLE. Instead, the bitrate doubles up if we try to reduce the bitrate to half.
I see same behavior with FMLE GUI / FMLEcmd.exe.
Is it just me or it is a known issue with FMLE with Intensity pro on windows?
Any pointers on how to go about fixing the problem will be much appreciated. Thanks.

I have exactly the same problem!
Please, add an fps limit feature to FMLE so that for example a 50fps device output can be lowered to 24fps (I can actually choose different fps but it still broadcasts with 50fps no matter what settings).
For now, does anyone know a kind of directshow capture proxy that captures the device (blackmagic intensity pro in my case) at 50fps, lowers the fps and puts it out (with no quality loss!) to FMLE (there selectable as a virtual camera)?
    Thanks!

  • Which slot should I install my Blackmagic Intensity Pro PCIe card?

    Hi there,
I just purchased myself a Blackmagic Design Intensity Pro capture card. It's a x1 lane PCIe card and according to the manual, it should work in any PCIe slot on the Mac Pro. However, in the readme file, it states, "If using a Mac Pro, it is recommended to use PCIe slot 4 for Intensity capture cards."
What exactly does this mean? Does this mean it's recommended to use the x4 lane slot? Or the 4th slot in the Mac Pro? I'm a little confused.
Thanks for your time and I hope to hear from someone soon.
    Regards,
    Daniel

Depends when it was written, and for which Mac Pro.
Does it support 16x slots? maybe. But slots 3&4 are 4x and #4 refers to the top most just under the hard drives.
Some cards use to run best in 8x slot which was slot #4 on early Mac Pro but which was also PCIe 1.1.
Mac Pro 2008 and later, doesn't matter.
Apple had trouble with their own Fibre Channel card not working correctly in 2008, and not working to full bandwidth.
I passed answering before because you just need to look at what your PCIe slots provide.
