Blackmagic Multibridge Pro

Has anyone had luck with the Multibridge Pro and external monitoring with Color? I am upgrading from AJA Io and have a 36" LCD w/ HDMI and I'm hoping that buying the Multibridge Pro with HDMI out will allow me to color correct on the LCD from Color.

We have both a Kona LHe and Multibridge Pro, and as far as I know the MB is not qualified to work with Color - the IO demands are such that it needs an onboard card - either Decklink or Kona, with most people favouring the AJA card (but my Blackmagic service experience has been good).
If I get a chance I'll try it for you - they're a great box if you get one that works for more than a week!
LCD colour correction - ooh! Depends what you're using it for of course... broadcast? Has to be REALLY carefully set up, with LUTs and all...

  • Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 with Blackmagic Multibridge Pro

After having upgraded to Premiere CS5 and Blackmagic 7.6.4, I am experiencing a short list of undesirable video playback results (that were not present in CS4 with Blackmagic 7.6).  The issues are likely specific to Blackmagic with Premiere, so I'll spare everyone the details for now -- If anyone out there is using a similarly equipped system, please chime in--I'd like to run some of this past you, see if you're having the same issues and troubleshoot either way.  Thanks!

In the time since my original post, both Adobe and Blackmagic have released several updates, resolving most of the issues which led me to start this thread. Still, there are always quirks and curiosities specific to each editing system and its unique configuration, so I'll just bump this thread with an open invitation to anyone--with problems, questions, kudos or curiosities--regarding the use of Adobe Premiere Pro software with Blackmagic Design hardware.

  • Anti-aliasing with CS5 and Blackmagic Multibridge Pro

To anyone else using a Blackmagic Multibridge Pro card:
I am experiencing bad aliasing on scaled video in a Blackmagic Adobe  Premiere timeline.
With Adobe Premiere's GPU acceleration turned on, scaled video looks  great, but the GPU setting introuces too many other bugs to be reliable  (unpredictable cross dissolves, alpha channel misinterpretation, etc.).
When I turn GPU acceleration off, cross dissolves and titles act as they  should, but scaled and time-altered video looks quite bad.
I'm working in Blackmagic native timelines (pick any--it's the same for  all) and have Adobe Premiere's Preview File Format set to "Uncompressed  10-bit YUV" with "Maximum Bit Depth" and "Maximum Render Quality"  checked... but the effected video still looks aliased.   Anyone else out there with this configuration having the same issue?
    Best,

    Blackmagic Multibridge Pro v7.7.2
    Premiere Pro CS5 v5.0.1

Thanks for the heads-up on Adobe's update, Todd.  I have installed 5.0.3 and it has solved many of the undesirable GPU-related issues.  I am now satisfied with the way GPU acceleration handles cross dissolves and alpha channels.  I feel like I'm now moving in the right direction, working with GPU-acceleration enabled for all projects.
That said, and in confirmation of my previous post, the only remaining issue seems to lie with how Blacmagic-native timelines interpret renders and preview files differently between a project with GPU acceleration enabled versus disabled.  Take, for example my previous list of renders from a Blackmagic-native timeline...
Render 1:  Mercury Playback Engine Software Only + "use previews" checked
Render 2:  Mercury Playback Engine Software Only + "use previews" unchecked
Render 3:  Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration + "use previews" checked
Render 4:  Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration + "use previews"  unchecked
With the 5.0.3 update, renders 3 and 4 are still the same as each other (no change here), but now all transitions and alpha composites look as expected (fixed!). Next up, renders 1 and 2 are now also the same as each other (fixed! A predictable result, unlike in v5.0.2).  The video is still aliased as before--but the fact that these two renders are now the same helps pinpoint the aliasing issue to Blackmagic's handling of GPU disabled renders.
In short, the Adobe Premiere update 5.0.3 addresses and corrects all known GPU-related rendering issues within Premiere-native timelines.  And, because of this, any distinction seen between "GPU Acceleration" and "Software Only" renders from a Blackmagic-native timeline have been reduced to a mere curiosity.
My thanks to Adobe and everyone who posted here to help solve such a convoluted issue!
    Best,
    James

  • Blackmagic Multibridge Pro AV Output?

I had this working on my MacPro 4,1 with the 9.5.1 (I think) drivers from Blackmagic. I updated the drivers to 9.5.3, and I have lost AV Output. It shows up in the preference, and they are matching with the decklink driver preferences. I tried to roll back to 9.5.1, but no luck. Is anyone else seeing issues like this, or could anyone offer up some troubleshooting ideas?

  • Can not capture with CS6 and blackmagic multibridge pro on HP Z820

    This is the setup:
    Z820 and Windows 7 pro
    Multibridge Pro and driver 9.7.7
    CS6.0.5
In premiere I can not capture via the Multibridge. The app crash when entering capture mode. I can not change setting in my capture device.
On the same PC I CAN capture with Media Composer v7 and BM Media Express.
I've tried several version of the BM driver, no changes.
The BM PCIe card is in slot 1 and the PC bios I have update to v3.50.
    Anyone having the same experience?
    Regards
    Danny

Thanks for the reply. I know YouTube is not the way to check quality but it shows the stutter in playback. The quality wasn't the issue and it is filmed with my phone. The video shows what it needs to show.
Disk setup is a ddp server (check http://www.dynamicdrivepool.com/ for info) connected with 2 network cables for optimal speed.
Video cars is a NVIDIA Quadro K4000.
Premiere Pro CC is up to date with the latest version.
Export settings? I think you mean sequence settings:
For the record: I'm not trying to play a sequence with multiple layers of video of different codecs and loaded with effects. It's just a video chopped to pieces and an adjustment layer with some simple effects. The way Adobe is advertising the performance of Premiere Pro, one would think that couldn't be a problem for any Z820. Or that's what I was thinking. Hope you or anyone can help.

  • AJA Io TO Multibridge Pro Broadcast Mastering

I recently sold my AJA Io due to purchasing a new Blackmagic Multibridge Pro. I am starting to switch over the HD but still master SD using BETA SP via component.
My issue is that when I get my timeline set, I pull up Edit To Tape and immediately see the No Input Video with Blackmagic's logo behind it. Everything is on and looks good. The interesting thing is that without Edit To Tape loaded I can play my sequence through the Multibridge and see an image from my Beta deck's video out so I know a signal is running from FCP > Multibridge > Beta (via component).
Now if I load Edit To Tape, open my Easy Setup and choose Multibrige DV NTSC, things seem to work fine. But I really want to send everything out via 8 Bit Uncompressed (which does not work).
Has anyone else experienced this kind of difficulty with BM Multibridge? If so, what solutions have you gotten to work?

Sorry we couldn't help you...and glad that you figured it out.
And really nice of you to post the solution. It is nice to see these so we can offer suggestions to others.

  • Blackmagic Multibridge

I do not get any sound at all from Soundtrack Pro through my Blackmagic Multibridge Pro. Every time I open Sound Pro I have to reinstall the Multibridge drivers. Bottom line is I can not even open Soundtrack Pro because it messes up my system. I am using the latest STP2.01 and Multibridge 6.2 drivers. Any way that someone could help me?

    Hi,
I have had many similar problems with the Multibridge pro. One thing that might help is to create a new driver in the Audio/midi panel (I'm not at my mac and don't remember what it is called. You need to make an agrigate driver for it. Otherwise it will not be able to use in and out at the same time. This is why your audio is going away. Watch out though, if you use AES input on audio while recording video there will be a 3 second delay with the video. If you are recording with video change back to the normal in and out driver. Then there will be only a 60 ms delay or so. Quite manageable with delay.

  • Multibridge Pro to Mac Pro

is possible connect a Multibridge Pro to Mac Pro?

    yes.

  • FCP, Beta SP and Blackmagic Multibridge Extreme capture card

I'm having problems getting a video signal into FCP via a Multibridge Exteme capture card by Blackmagic Design. I currently have device control and am able to view footage already in FCP on an NTSC monitor so it appears as though the capture card is working. I have my capture setting set to blackmagic NTSC-10 bit (i've tried several different settings). I have the deck connected to the card through the component ports. Here are the specs on what i'm working with:
    Mac Pro dual 3.0GHz Xeon
    10 GBs of RAM
Blackmagic Multibridge Extreme capture card w/ breakout box
    Sony PVW-2650 Beta SP player
    FCP 5.1.4
    Quicktime 7.1.6
    OSX 10.4.10

Under System Preferences go to the Decklink Preferences.
Change the input from SDI to Component and XLR audio
    Problem solved.

  • Trouble ingesting from Multibridge pro

Hi, I'm really hoping someone can help here, I am trying to run an edit system assembled a couple of years ago. For complicated reasons it has never been used until now.
I am trying to import some HD analogue clips direct from A JVC camcorder & have therefore set device control to "none" so that I can control the deck manually. I have carefully checked the capture settings in Premiere & in the capture solution. Premiere is certainly fully aware that a capture card is attached, but will not use it to actually capture.
This is a Multibridge pro from Blackmagic Design. I know the unit is working fine, because I can capture & playback (at HD onto a RAID) using Blackmagic Design's own capture utility. I downloaded the latest drivers, which suggests to me that both USB & eSata connectors are OK.
What I actually get on the capture panel is the message; "capture device off line" & the record button is grayed out together with all the other transport buttons in the "logging" tab - I would've expected to see a "Capture" tab or some similar as well...? I imagine that this is a clue here!
Perhaps the problem lies with my aged (CS3) system running 64 bit Vista...? I know this was not recommended at the time, but I successfully did some test editing on the system at that point. I doubt if the Multibridge was used for the digitising though.
    Many thanks in advance.

    What are your export settings?

  • Lack of Capture Preview in PPro CS5 Using A/D Blackmagic Multibridge Eclipse

    Hi all,
Intersting issue here...just purchased and  configured a new Blackmagic Multibridge Eclipse I/O box.  SO far so good  in terms of up/down conversion etc., but having a bit of an issue  establishing a connection with our Sony PVW-2800 Betacam Deck.  I have  gone through the Blackmagic manual etc. and we have all of our settings  adjusted correctly in PPro and do get an auditory/visual preview on our  true-color LCD monitor/external audio mixer.  It is hte lack of visual  in the PPRo capture window that is the problem.  Remote deck control is  funcitoning fine, and we are able to click the red record button and the  timecode does start rolling, but when record is stopped, no clip pops  into the set project bin.
What am I missing here?  Device Control is set to Blackmagic, format is NTSC 4:3 and DV.  Let me  know if you need any more specifications.  Maybe this is still a  Blackmagic problem...but with some trial/error it seems to point to  PPro.  We are able to succesfully capture using Blackmagic Express.
    Thanks for the feedback,
    Lindsay

What do you have the input in the Blackmagic control panel in windows control panel set to? Is it set to SDI, Component, HDMI, Y/C, or Svideo?

  • Are there benefits to the Blackmagic Intensity Pro for HDV capture ?

Are there benefits to the Blackmagic Intensity Pro for HDV capture ?
    I have a Sony HDR-FX1 that records in HDV 1440 x 1080
I have already captured the footage to miniDV tape.
Can the intensity card get the full 1920 x 1080 video ?
I now use Premiere to capture my video and my HDV is in mpeg2 and my SD is in DV type 2 AVI
What format does the intensity card capture at ?
Are there other ways to capture that would make the footage better.
From what I have read allot of people have had problems with these cards.
Im just looking for the best way to get the footage off my camera with the best resolution.
    Thanks:  Glenn

    Glenn,
I have posted this before in the PC Buying Guide (post #23 and later), but have a look at this diagram:
The problem is that once recorded to tape, the material is compressed to MPEG and there is no way to get the data back, that were lost during compression. The only thing you achieve is that you lose device control, lose all timecode information, lose all metadata like date and timestamp and exposure data and lose the capability of scene detection. There are no gains to compensate the losses.
Compare it to a glass of orange juice, that was made by heavily compressing oranges. How do you think you can reconstruct the original oranges that the juice came from? Were there 4 large oranges or 6 small ones or a mixture? Were they light colored or were they dark or a mixture of light and dark?
BlackMagic in their marketing may lead you to believe otherwise, but the truth is they can only guess at how many oranges were used, their size and color. It is nothing more than a guess.

  • SpeedGrade 2014.2 will not send output via BlackMagic Intensity Pro HDMI to my external monitor.

I occasionally can get a few pixels near the left side of the monitor, and 2014.1 would display the lower half of the frame, but now, after the 2014.2 update, I can't even get that much. Premiere is monitoring perfectly. Any suggestions welcome!

I am having the same problem. I am on Speedgrade version 2014.1 currently and it won't output to either of the monitors I've tried. Both are connected via HDMI.
One is a 22' ASUS monitor, which reads "Out of Range" when I connect it to my blackmagic Intensity Pro output. From what I've read this has to do with the frame size coming out of SP being too large for the monitor.
Next I tried to output to a 50' HD TV. I don't get the "Out of Range" message on this one, instead the monitor is black with an occasional flicker when I hover over a clip or an option in Speedgrade. By flicker I mean the screen flashes a garbled purple mess for less than a second, then goes black again.
I'm running the Creative Cloud Suite on a Mid 2012 Mac Desktop with a 2 x 2.66 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon processor, 52GB of RAM, and ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB graphics card. OSX version 10.8.5.
Been waiting for this capability for a while, any advice would be much appreciated.
    Thanks!

  • FCP capture problem with Blackmagic Intensity Pro

I just installed a Blackmagic Intensity Pro and I am having problems capturing in Final Cut Pro 6. I have a Sony VCR/DVD player with a HMDI out connection that works fine when connected to my TV. The video setting on the VCR/DVD are 720P. In FCP I have chosen the “Blackmagic HDTV Intensity Pro 720P 60 Uncompressed” capture/input setting. If I unplug the HDMI cable from the VCR/DVD and plug it back in I see the video for about 4 seconds and then just a gray screen. I have tried several video tapes all with the same results.
    Any suggestions?
    Dennis

I am having the same problem. I edit reels and was trying to use the higher quality HDMI input to capture video from my DVD player for client's video reels.
I could be mistake, but I do 'recall' hearing that you cannot record HDMI video (copyright issues) but only play back HDMI. We may be stuck using component.
Intensity Pro's website only mentions recording HDMI video from a camcorder with an HDMI output.
Maybe someone will clear this up for us with a definite answer. I have put a request in to Blackmagic support and will let you know what they say.
