Blackmagic preview & built-in line out audio?

Esteemed fellow editors,
In Final Cut Pro, I can preview video on my NTSC monitor using my Blackmagic Intensity card, and preview audio using my Mac's built-in output or built-in line output. Does anyone know how to do this in Premiere?
Thanks!

  • Line out audio through dock connection

Does the nano have line out audio through the dock connector? The threads I've read here have conflicting information. The tech specs at http://www.apple.com/ipodnano/specs.html do not list this for the nano so I'm assuming NOT...and that my Sik Imp (http://www.sik.com/imp.php) won't work with the nano.
    Anyone?

I suspect a documentation artifact here...
Apple originally supplied the dock std with iPod, but then subsequently removed it to make it an add-on accessory. Someone likely forgot to remove the mention in std iPod features, and also correctly did not include it in nano. The nano dock has an audio line out, just as all other docks before it since 3g.

  • No line out audio via dock connector

    I have a Sendstation pocketdock:
    http://www.sendstation.com/us/products/pocketdock/lineout-usb.html
I use the line out with other iPods including 4G ipod and 2G Nano with no problems.
But when I use the same Pocketdock with the iPhone, audio does not go through the line out, audio keeps coming out of the iPhone.
Is there a way to force audio out the dock/line out?

    Folks,
on Nov. 29, 2007 we have begun shipping a revised PocketDock Line Out USB, which is now iPhone-enabled. We have also revised the 1/8" stereo plugs on the included cables, so they are now thin enough to fit the iPhone’s recessed headphone jack.
Note that not all retailers might have the newest stock, so if you want to be on the safe side, either ask for which revision they sell (the iPhone-option is mentioned on the packaging) or order directly from http://www.sendstation.com.

  • MacPro Line-Out Audio -- Is the Signal Clean?

I have my home stereo connected to my MacPro through a USB interface device called a "Stereo Link 1200." It's something I bought years ago, when I was still a PC user and the audio output from Soundblaster cards left a lot to be desired. This unit connected via USB directly to the motherboard and produced a strong, clear audio signal.
So when I switched from a Dell XPS to a MacPro about a year ago, I replicated the setup, connecting the stereo link via USB, and all is well.
I was just looking at the audio output options in "preferences" and notice that one of the options is the line-out connector native to the MacPro. So suddenly it occurs to me to ask: is that a clean signal? Do I even need the Stereo Link in the equation any more? Or can I just jetison that and go straight from the MacPro to my stereo?
I just thought I'd ask before I go in and start unplugging things, I figure somebody here must know the answer to this one.
    Thanks,
    --PS

I do just what you are describing about with no problems. I use one of the alternate video inputs on my receiver.
If your receiver has an optical digital input you could try using the optical output on the Mac.
The quality of the Mac line-out vs. what your stereo-link can do is very subjective. Since this would probably take you a total of less than 5 minutes to test (assuming that you have the correct cables) I would suggest that you give it a try and then report back here what you find. My suspicion, considering that both devices (stereo-link and the Mac's built-in D/A converter) are "consumer level" is that you won't be able to hear a noticeable difference. That said, the Mac will have more modern components and could possible outperform the other. Plus, as you mention, it would eliminate the extra device and save you a USB port in the process.

  • Line-out audio problems.

Can Apple please solve this: The line-out (and/or headphone-out, or default-out) on my 2010 Mac Pro just stops working on a daily basis. I use SoundFlower and LineIn apps as directed and they work fine on all internal sound-generating apps like iTunes, EyeTV HD, SoundStudio, etc. But audio coming in through the built-in audio line-in jack stops working at some point every day, or overnight. Sound control panel shows audio is getting into the computer, and LineIn app shows input and output, but I don't hear sound through the Mac's Line or headphone output.
The "fix" is to keep switching inputs, outputs, quit and relaunch both SoundFlower and LineIn apps and, eventually, sound will return to the line and headphone output jacks on the Mac Pro. ( Switching here means choosing on-screen options, not physically replugging, which I have tried also to no avail!)
As as active, professional composer/arranger, having to go through this ritual for 10 - 30 minutes every day before I can start working is becoming a major annoyance!
I have read posts elsewhere where users complain of this same problem (though more often on a MacBOOKPro than on a MacPro) and it almost seems like this is a bug is in the Mac OS since OS 10.4, but it has not yet been solved or otherwise addressed by Apple.
Can someone alert Apple to work on this, or has someone else found the cause and/or solution?
I have the latest versions of OS 10.7.5, SoundFlower and LineIn freshly (re)installed.
Rebooting does not solve the problem. Only the playing around with inputs/outputs I describe above.
I have run Disk Repair and the HD is fully verified OK and all permissions have been repaired and read as correct.
As I have said, I can get everything working just fine, then leave the computer for the evening, and when I try to return to work the next morning, the problem is back.
I leave the computer fully on (no sleep) and I shut the monitor off as opposed to putting it to sleep so, on paper, nothing should be resetting itself, yet it does.
    Can anyone help?
    Thank you.

SoundFlower is notorious for causing OSX problems. Not familiar with Lineln, but would search for anyone else having compatability issues with Lion if I were you.

  • Using line out audio cause mac pro 1,1 freeze

    Hello,
I have upgrade mac pro 1,1 osx from tiger to snow leopard (update to 10.6.8 - clean install))
Why every time I connect my speaker to line out cause system freeze/crash?
But if using internal speaker, there is no problem.

So I have to reboot manual with holding power button, but cannot load osx (blank screen), I try to hold smc reset button, don't work too.
So I unplug and plug the memory raiser, so finally everything back to normal. It can loading osx snow leopard normally.
    So what is the problem?
    Thank you,

It's a hardware fault. I suggest you make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have it tested. It's a free service. The repair won't be free, but if it's something simple, such as a bad memory module, you may be able to fix it yourself.

  • Mono audio combined with lightning line out audio issue

Hello, there! I am a single-side hearing person, so to enjoy musics mono audio is important to me. Since I use iPod touch 5 and ios 7, and connected it to a dac or amp through its lightning line out, I hear crackling sound, especially in the mids or vocals. The crackles are gone when the "mono audio" off. No problem when hearing through the 3.5 jack, w/ "mono audio" on. I do not know whether this issue was exist w/ ios 6, since I updated to ios 7 at once after I bought it. But, w/ my 4th gen touch and ios 6, there was no issue like this at all. So, is there anyone else could confirm this issue? Apple, would you please address this issue in the next u update? Thank you for any attention.

You are not addressing Apple here. We are all just users like yourself. To tell Apple go here:

  • Line out audio distortion

My headphone jack works fine when connected to the tape adapter in the car or to the stereo or my computer speakers. But when I use the Line Out of my car charger (which uses the digital audio out of nano) same as my Dock at home, I get a hum. And it's like the default volume is way to high on the nano or way too much something, making it buzz and hum.
Any takers? I'm at a loss. Again, headphones fine and, fyi, the line out of the dock to computer speakers is fine, just not to my home stereo. And it's the same using totally different cables and devices in my car, same scenario though. help

it sounds like thats happening because its a powered
    unit
So does this happen to everyone's "powered" dock and/or in-car charger with audio/line out? The only power to the dock is the Apple USB 2. There's so much static and crackling, it's just obnoxious sounding, but then it works fine using the headphone jack. Isn't it odd that it's in my car and at home with an Apple brand nano dock. Anybody found this themselves? Or a sollution?

  • Line-out audio signal of 6G (sixth generation) iPod Classic (120GB)

I suspect that the audio signal that comes out of the Dock Connector of the 6G (sixth generation) iPod Classic (120GB) is not a line-out. Because like the iPod Nano the 6G iPod Classic outputs a signal that can be made louder by turning up the volume from the click-wheel.
Is this true? Am I getting the same signal from the dock as what I have on the headphone port?
For music on the go this is not an issue but if the iPod is one of many sources going into your hi-fi amplifier the experience will be frustrating!
    Thanks,

I have an iPod Classic 120GB and have just connected it to the dock that came with my old iPod Photo (using a piece of cardboard as a dock adapter because, for some reason, the dock design must have changed and the dock adapter that came with the classic won't fit).
I can state that changing the volume level on the iPod has NO effect on the volume coming from the line out of the dock. The line out volume is also much louder than the loudest volume I can get from the earphone socket.

  • Line out audio line level too low to be useable, just started after update

I'm pretty sure this is a software issue. My line out level is so low it is not useable. Headphone jack still works. I removed all the audio preferences, cleared the cache, rebooted, reconfigured audio midi setup. I maxed out the volume, used the sound preference pane and selected line out. No improvent.
I picked up an m-audio Fast Track for now. Has anyone experienced this and resolevod it. I'm running 10.5.8...

I put my son's PPC Mac Mini in target disk mode and booted off of it. Audio issue still persists. I wonder if the digital out / line out switch has a non volitile register ? or it could be fried ? I booted linux on onthe box and used alsamixer
I saw the ES9168 (or something like that).. that's the switch right ? It had no value.
I guess for now I'll get an Maudio device for sound.. but I still hope to figure our what if this is a software issue or is it hardware. The signal is low.. I put my oscilloscope on across the speaker inputs while a sound was playing.. 25mv! It's supposed to be 1v. I don't know how they designed the line out, there is no schemetic. I wonder if what happened is the line out pre-amp blew and I am hearing whatever signal is leaking/bridging across.
Everything else on my late 2005 powermac g5 is fine. It may be 5 years old but I can render HD video fine, and it's been very stable so I figured I'll keep it till it dies. There's one problem with that though. I've got over 3000 pictures in iPhoto that I shot, and my perl/php development projects are on it, plus my family videos are all on it I server them up to the Apple tv. Ahh.. I guess I have to backup / archive to something that will be compatible.
    Well.. I'll start saving.
If you can think of any other possibilities let me know. I kind of think booting off the imac in target disk mode ruled out software, but then again the audio driver may be different from the one my G5 uses. Is there any Apple Service Disk kicking around for a Powermac G5 late 2005 model ? Maybe there's code on there to test / initialize the onboard audio.

  • Line out audio is very soft

    Hello all
I have connected the line out from the universal dock to my Sony stereo.
The input on the stereo is marked as MD, which I'm assuming was Sony's mini disk player.
However I have to crank the volume on the stereo to hear even the faintest sound?
    Any help appreciated.

I have discovered the same issue on my iPod Classic. The line out is no longer fixed through the Universal Dock. It is controlled by the volume on the iPod. Increase the volume on the iPod and your volume will increase. Previous model iPods had a true fixed line out. I guess that feature is gone with the Classic model.

  • Line Out Audio

Whenever I turn on my Mac Pro the the sound out defaults to Internal Speakers even though I changed it to Line out. How do I get it to stay Line out instead of Internal Speaker?

Now after the PRAM reset it goes back to  Lion
    Impossible unless...
    1. You still have a boot partition with Lion on it, and,
    2. Your default boot partition is that Lion partition.
In which case reboot and hold down the option key when you hear the beep.  You will be presented with all possible boot volumes.  And if what I said about is true you have at least 2; a Snow Leopard and a Lion.  Use the right arrow key to select the SL and hit return.
Once you boot select the System Preferences --> Startup Disk and select your SL disk.
Note, if you are currently booted you can just go into the Startup Disk preferences and se the desired startup disk and you don't have to go through the option key boot sequence.  Just reboot after setting the default boot partition.

The last line of a page gets too loose because you disallowed automatic hyphenation of the last line on a page.
From the online InDesign Help on Hyphenation:
    Hyphenate Across Column
To prevent words from being hyphenated across a column, frame, or page, deselect this option.
