Blackmagic RT Extreme question

Hi
I have a question about blackmagic video card software.
In this software is an "Enable Legacy QT playback" option in bottom right corner. I don't know why but I have no possibilitie to choose that. What shuold I do to have a chance to choose it.
thank's

According to Blackmagic Support:
The "Enable Legacy QT Playback" option relied upon the use of Blackmagic codecs. In the DeckLink 5.0 drivers, we have largely eliminated the Blackmagic codecs and adopted the Apple uncompressed codecs as Apple have requested that we do this for simplicities sake. One of the side effects of this is that the "Enable Legacy QT Playback" option cannot be used. However, we're examining options to see if we can make this work again so we haven't removed it from the interface. If we can't find a way to make it work, we will remove it but we haven't given up yet
Does that answer your question?

I have been having some serious issues. FLME 3.2 keeps crashing when I have the capture device set to blackmagic intensity extreme. I am using 720p HD 59.94 as my settings.
If it is the settings how do I go about bringing it down to SD? I do not think there is a lower setting on my camera.

  • Unable to capture audio from BlackMagic HD Extreme via Voice Over tool

    Hi !
I'm trying to capture audio via my BlackMagic HD Extrem card using the Voice Over tool in FCP6, but I can't, no audio is incoming.
I can ingest audio with video using log and capture, then I know my card and my cables are working.
I tried to set the BM card as audio input in my Audio's System Prefereces Pane, but it isn't working either.
I've been looking on the BM website, but I found nothing.
    Can you help me ?
    Thx

    Thanks for the reply.
Looking at system preferences I found that audio input was set microphone. Don't know how it happened. I switched it to DeckLink and now FCP displays 16 input channels in Log and Capture dialog. I didn't try to capture yet but I think it solved the problem, because before I had only two channels displyed.

  • Understanding the way to connect a MDD to BlackMagic Decklink Extreme card

    Hi,
I require some help in the following:
I recently bought myself a Blackmagic DeckLink Extreme™ with 10bit SDI/analog video and audio capture card.
Looking at the specs, http://www.blackmagic-design.com/products/sd/specs/, can someone give me directions as to the best setup I can do from the following sources and what other equipment I may require to achieve it.
    - mono stereo audio VHS -> has 1 video/audio in and 1 video/audio out (composite connections)
    - stereo audio video camera -> has 1 8 pin S-Video out port to composite connections (Hi8 tape type)
    - DVD player -> has composite 2 x 2ch stereo audio out, 1 x 5.1ch stereo audio out, 2 x video out, 1x component video out, 2 x S-video out, 2 x digital audio out; 1 x RCA/OPT
    - 2 x 23" monitors connected by ADC and DVI connections to a Apple MDD G4, may relay to 60" Plasma for video monitoring from video card prior to creating DVD final piece for playback.
Basically, I wanted to have multiple source inputs and outputs, but I'm having difficulty in understanding the setup. Please refer to http://www.blackmagic-design.com/downloads/connections/decklinkdiagram.pdf page 5/6.
I purchased the following from JayCar

I want to buy a hard disk (not a NAS device) and plug it into my Airport Extreme in order to share data between two Mac computers, and to stream iTunes content to my Apple TV.
One option is to purchase a hard drive (say, a 2TB Hitachi G-Technology drive) and connect it to the USB port on the back of the Apple Extreme. The other option is to purchase a drive with an ethernet connection (say, a 2TB Lacie drive) and connect it to an ethernet port on the Apple Extreme.
In the second case what you'd have actually is a NAS. Apple's AirPort routers aren't known for fast file sharing. The NAS option might be faster.
Is either option better for streaming movies from the hard drive to my Apple TV?
I could be wrong, but an AppleTV may not be able to access content directly from a network drive. It may require that a Mac serve as an intermediary.

  • FCP, Beta SP and Blackmagic Multibridge Extreme capture card

I'm having problems getting a video signal into FCP via a Multibridge Exteme capture card by Blackmagic Design. I currently have device control and am able to view footage already in FCP on an NTSC monitor so it appears as though the capture card is working. I have my capture setting set to blackmagic NTSC-10 bit (i've tried several different settings). I have the deck connected to the card through the component ports. Here are the specs on what i'm working with:
    Mac Pro dual 3.0GHz Xeon
    10 GBs of RAM
Blackmagic Multibridge Extreme capture card w/ breakout box
    Sony PVW-2650 Beta SP player
    FCP 5.1.4
    Quicktime 7.1.6
    OSX 10.4.10

Under System Preferences go to the Decklink Preferences.
Change the input from SDI to Component and XLR audio
    Problem solved.

  • BlackMagic Mutibridge Extreme

Has anyone tried the new BlackMagic Mutibridge extreme as a converter with the new G5. I just recently saw this device at NAB and it looked pretty good, but there does not seem to be much experience with this device out there. Any feedback?

  • Blackmagic Design Extreme Intensity

Hi! I would like to know if there are any plans to add the Blackmagic Design Extreme Intensity (Thunderbolt) video capture support to FCP X?
This was possible in FCP 7 and would be essential feature for me in my work flow... And I'm not alone with this wish, I pressume..

My bad.. didn't read the forum rules closely enough... Sorry.
But thanks. The answer was what I needed, not what I hoped for, though.

  • FCPX & Blackmagic Intensity Extreme

My equipment: MacBook Pro (Retina Display, Mountain Lion 10.8.1.), Final Cut Pro X 10.0.5., Intensity Extreme, Zeiss Microscope with 1080p.
Is it not possible to put these things togheter to see the picture of my microscope on my MacBook? I tried so many different settings, but I could see anything on the sreen of my Mac. When I use Blackmagic Media Express with Desktop Video 9.6.2. I can see a picture, but why don`t it work with FCPX?
Thanks a lot for your help!
    Joerg

I've tried to do this, and it doesn't seem to work
I bought a LaCie 4TB Thunderbolt hard disk, and streamed a gaming session to it from the Blackmagic Intensity Extreme, which worked well, but ended up with a 300Gb Apple ProRes 422 file.
As stated above, this is a capture of about 5 hours of gaming, but what I need to do now, is review the result, and do a "log and capture" of the file to reduce it to a bunch of sub-clips of the stuff I'm interested in.  I can then throw away the original 300Gb file.
I tried renaming the disk to "Video", or "DCIM", but the Import from Camera dialog only showed my in-built camera.  It showed the LaCie as a Camera Archive, but I can't open up the video files in there to do a "log and capture" from, it's wanting me to open an archive file.
So how do I create this archive file from the file I already have?  Is there any other way to chunk up this 300Gb file, other than do it through FCPX as a "project".
How do I make an independant clip from a sub-clip?
    Any and all suggestions appreciated!
    Cheers,

  • Blackmagic Intensity Extreme do not work on iMac27 2011

i just bought Blackmagic Intensity Extreme yesterday. i try to play ps3 on imac, but it does not work. however, i found some imformation and some people can use it. is it can work on 10.7.3, or no? plz help me. thx

That's not what it is for, It's for recording and editing not playing straight through.   Sony blocks there hdmi signal from being recorded with copyright protection, (who knows why).   You can still use component cables to record PS3 gameplay though.
If you just wanted to use the iMac as a monitor I would return the Intensity Extreme and just buy the Playstation 3DTV with the $300.
    No lag.

  • Missing codecs for Blackmagic HD Extreme?

I just installed a new BM HD Extreme card. I installed the latest driver (6.3)
I am running QT 7.2 and FCP 6.0.1
When I launch FCP it prompts me to select a Sequence Preset.
The drop down window contains many Blackmagic options- but many others are missing. For example: I only have 3 choices of 1080i 59.94 (10bit, 10bit RGB, and 8bit). There are only 2 DVCproHD options. And there is no NTSC DV option, etc.
If I choose CANCEL I do not get a Timeline or Canvas window and they are grayed out the Window drop down menu. If I choose a preset- even one I do not want I get a complete layout.
Once inside FCP- I try Audio/Video Settings Menu.
All options including 1080i 59.94 ProRes, 1080i 59.94 DVCpro, NTSC DV, etc.
are available as Capture presets- but they are not listed under Sequence Preset menu.
If I select Easy Set-up- ALL BM presets are listed.
but when I try to edit to timeline I get a prompt telling to switch settings.
Many of these same setting options are missing from the VIEW Video Playback menu as well.
It's all very confusing. What is going on here?
    I suppose my question is:
How do I get All Blackmagic presets to appear as options in all settings- including sequence preset and Video playback?

time to call black magic support. I suspect (have not had time to check) the codecs are not in the proper location like in library>application support>final cut pro>??
look for the setups you see and where they are. I think there are separate locations for easy setup and for sequence presets. I have the same thing in the B room with an older blackmagic card

  • General Airport Extreme questions

I have some general questions regarding the dual band technology and how it relates to my specific setup. A bit of background:
I have 20Mbps cable internet and I am running the new Airport Extreme on a pc running XP to broadcast my wireless signal. I have an iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and iPad. I also have an Airport Express that I use in bridge mode so that I can connect my PS3 in a wired fashion.
    My questions:
-How do wireless networks work when you have both "g" and "n" devices? (which I do)
Does the router send out simultaneously a 2.4 and 5.0 signal for each capable device to pick up? Do the g devices pick up the 2.4 signal while the n devices pick up the 5.0? Or do all devices pick up the 2.4 signal since there are non "n" rated devices on the network? I have read many conflicting ideas on this.
    - I have spoken with multiple Apple customer service people and have gotten differing advice on how to improve my devices' connectivity to the network as I have been experiencing unacceptable levels of interference on all devices.
One rep reccomended that in the Airport Utilities, under wireless options that I check the 5GHz box to setup a seperate 5GHZ network for the n devices. Another rep dismissed this idea.
Does creating this new 5.0 network keep the network signal from being bumped down to "g" speeds when "g" rated devices are connected?
How am I to better off setting my networks up so that my n devices as well as my g devices get the best performance and connectivity?
-I use an Airport Express in bridge mode with my PS3 and it seems to be helping my connections speeds. When I was connected wirelessly, the speeds would either be non-existent or unacceptable. I know the PS3 has a "g" antenna. I have the airport express connected to the 5.0ghz wireless network in Airport Utilities. Am I actally now connecting to the 5.0ghz signal and converting to the PS3 at higher bandwidth then I would be otherwise if I was connected to the 2.4ghz wireless signal?
I appologize for the longwinded post.
Any insight I will be most appreciated as I am banging my head against the wall here.
    Scott

The default setup for the AirPort Extreme provides a dual band wireless network with a Radio Mode that looks like this:
    802.11a/n --- 802.11n/g/b
The 5 GHz band is on the left and the 2.4 GHz is on the right of the --- dashes
Also as a default, the same wireless network name is used for both bands. The theory here is that any device will automatically connect to the best signal quality. This works great for older "g" devices because they can only connect to the 2.4 GHz band, so you know where they will be at all times. You never need to be concerned about a "g" device slowing down a faster "n" device on the 5 GHz band because the "g" device cannot even connect to the 5 GHz band.
But note that newer "n" devices can connect to either the 5 GHz band or the 2.4 GHz band. So, it's possible that you may have a "n" device and a "g" device on the 2.4 GHz band and the "n" connection will slow a bit if the "g" device is really active.
It gets a bit more complicated if you have a new iPhone, which can connect at "n" speeds, but only to the 2.4 GHz band. The new iPad can connect to either 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz.
Most users are better off if they leave the settings as recommended on the AirPort Extreme. That's because each device will connect to the band with the best available signal quality. Isn't that what you really want?
If you will concentrate on signal quality, which is a combination of signal strength and low noise, you'll be fine.
Most problems arise when users think that they want to connect to the 5 GHz band because the speeds can be faster there. So, they assign a separate name to the 5 GHz network and then "point" their computer at that band. The potential issue with doing this is that 5 GHz signals are much weaker than 2.4 GHz signals.
So, if the computer is several rooms away and you have "forced" it to connect to 5 GHz, you are likely telling it to connect to a signal that is both +weaker and slower+ than the 2.4 GHz signal at that location. The signal always slows down as it moves further from the router or encounters obstructions.
As I said, most users will do well to use the default settings and let each device find the best connection automatically. With a mix of a number of devices, you'll never be able to find the single "perfect" setting. With wireless, there are always compromises. No way to avoid that, I'm afraid.

  • Help outputting using Panasonic AJ-SD955 / Blackmagic Decklink Extreme

    Hello to all,
Anyone out there able to walk me through connecting and outputting to a Panasonic AJ-SD955 and getting a reference signal? I am using a Decklink Blackmagic Extreme Card and FCP 5.0.4. I've been capturing all night, literally , from the deck, but am unable to Edit To Tape/output. I need to black and code a tape and output with picture starting at hour 1. I do not seem to be getting picture or reference to the deck.
Picture shows up on my monitor when playing straight from the timeline when viewing via the Blackmagic card.
When I park on the timeline and push the record button on the deck and view via the deck, I have picture on my broadcast monitor.
The picture is jumping every few seconds, hence my thinking that I am not getting reference.
On the front of the deck the SDI light and Analog video are lit up. They are not flashing.
When I tried black and coding the tape timecode laid to the tape but no black.
When I try Edit To Tape nothing is going to the tape.
From the Blackmagic Card to the deck the connections are the following:
    (14) Genlock is going into the top Ref. Video In -- The 75 termination switch is on.
Analog Composite Video Out is going to line B on my Sony monitor and provides the picture from the deck.
    (16) Deck Control to Remote IN/OUT.
    (13) SDI out to SDI IN on deck (top port)
    (15) SDI in to SDI out on deck (top port)
If you need any other information please let me know. I am posting in several places in an effort to get an answer fast, because what would life be without deadlines? LOL!
    As always, thanks in advanced!
    Peace,

Awesome - the Out Ref fix did it!
When I did the edit to tape I tried both insert editing and assemble editing - both ended up the same.
On a side discussion - how do you sync the FCP machine with the black burst generator? I'm still a bit new to this - what exactly does the genlock do on the Decklink Extreme card? Is this where I sync with the black burst?
I assume the digibeta deck will also get synced with the same black burst generator. Does this go into the reference input on the back?
    Thanks for your help,

  • Blackmagic Intensity card questions

Two big questions involving the Blackmagic Intensity card and using it with FCP and an HDV camera:
If you are not shooting tethered to the computer to completely bypass HDV's compression, are there any advantages to capturing using this card? $250 seems like a small price to pay to be able to digitize pre-recorded HDV footage directly to DVCPRO HD, though this leads me to my second question ..
Is it at all possible to log footage and batch capture with this card, or would you need to do the equivilant of a 'capture now' when importing through HDMI? This would obviously be a huge hassle.
For anyone interested, I'm strongly considering the combination of a Brevis35 adapter and a Canon HV20 camera which appears to me to be the cheapest possible interchangeable 35mm lense HDV solution out there.
    Love some thoughts and/or advice!
    cheers,
    Adam

For this thread to be of any value to future Black Magic searches, would someone please take a moment to synopsize the discussion? I'd do it but I don't know nuthin' 'bout no black magic stuff.
You guys have all kinds of knowledge and are appreciated...but it was nice to do a search and find the answers here instead of having to call Blackmagic. Some of us Producer/Editor types work crazy late hours and Blackmagic isn't always available on the phone. Just my two cents...not trying to stir up any new conflicts. Just valuing both sides of this discussion. < </div>

  • Thunderbolt Display & PS3 & Blackmagic Intensity Extreme

Blackmagic Design, according to their website, is starting to ship their Intensity Extreme, which uses thunderbolt technology, this month. Google the Intensity Extreme, check it out, and get back to me. I think this may be our answer to connecting our beloved game consoles to this fine piece of technology.

My Intensity Extreme just arrived actually, but unfortunately I have not been able to get it working yet in recording PS3 gameplay.  The documentation / technical support is abysmal. I am googling/youtubing around to try and get some help.

  • BLACKMAGIC CODEC INSTALL question

stupid question: I was provided with the blackmagic codec so i can work with uncompressed quicktimes but I don't know what to do with the .sit file. ANyone?

The .sit file was compressed using Stuffit and you'll need the free Windows version to expand it.
The .sit file is a compression format kinda like .zip but proprietary to Stuffit Expander. A Google search should help you find the download.
