Blackout when switching windows

I often switch between windows via Alt + Tab and constantly see millisecond blackout. This is especially annoying when to switch very quickly and often. How to turn this off blackout? I want to switch to a new window was not darkened, and completely
transparent.

Updated my intel HD Graphics to lastest 15.33.30.64.3958. Everything the same as was.
Recorded a short video to describe problem
http://youtu.be/nzB4x9acAvs
Issue not in video driver but in UI more precisely in a darkened background of Window Manager
And another sad thing

  • Keep Preview playing when switching windows?

Is there any possible way to keep Preview playing the file when switching windows? For example, pressing the space bar on .mp3 file begins playing it in Preview, however when switching windows, the preview pauses until you go back to the finder window. This is annoying when browsing .mp3's to play while doing other things. Any ideas?

I think you mean QuickLook, not Preview. And no, QuickLook is not intended to work that way--it is a way to do just what its name says: provide a quick looksee at the files in an open Finder window.
As for ideas: why not just open them in iTunes?
If you don't want to add them to iTunes, you can put the folder with the mp3s into Column View, make sure the box for "show preview column" is checked in View Options, then click directly on the icon for the file in the preview column (as your mouse moves over the icon, you will see the stylish play button appear on top of the icon). It will continue to play no matter what else you are doing.

  • Images maximize (full screen) when switching windows?

When working with two or more images in Fireworks CS3 (Mac OSX 10.5.7)....
The image windows blast into full screen display when switching between images. I am new to CS3, (convert from Studio 8) but cannot find where to stop this irritating behaviour. I can correct by selecting Window>>Cascade - temporarily... But, when I click on another image window, that image blasts into full-screen again.
    How can I stop this?
I really hate posting (usually preferring instead to lurk and scour the answers to my questions from previous posts). But, I am forced to post this question in hopes of a quick, simple solution to stop the lurching madness that makes me feel queasy every time my screen blasts an image into full screen mode..
Any help is appreciated...  really, it is. :-)

OK, this is possibly a bug.
After restarting today, the problem did not occur until about an hour working with FW.
A restart did NOT stop it. So, I restarted again and tried three different files... It was fine for a while and then started the same thing again.
I am starting to lose hope that it is something I can do to prevent this. It appears that FW and Carbon are not playing together nicely.

  • Acrobat X Slow Repainting when switching windows

Specs: Acrobat 10.0.2 on Win7 64bit with 3GB memory, 500GB Drive, 100GB free space, Dual Core 2.5ghz, Nvidia Quadro, all patches installed (MS and ADOBE)
Apps in use: With minimal (IE/Firefox or Explorer) or many apps (excel/word/powerpoint, IM, etc) open the issue occurs the same.
PDF FILES: All, no difference in impact from a 1 page to 60 page PDF
Problem: Open a PDF from explorer and it displays fine, no issues. Once I try to change window focus Acrobat freezes and then repaints the screen slowly to the point that I can see it repaint the File,Edit,View,Window,Help pull down menus.  Once the repaint is done the new window I was switching to appears. Until the window appears the system is sluggish as if all the resources are going into painting the window. (in fact the cpu does spike to 100% while this is happening).
    Other info:
    1) Switching mode (clicking/alt-tab/open window icon) makes no difference same behavior, hovering over the window will cause the system to slow down and cpu to spike.
    2) Does not occur with any other application, when ACROBAT is closed this does not happen when changing windows.
    3) Same symptoms occur on other Win 7 machines (32 and 64) but running Acrobat X.
    thanks,
    MC

As a debugging step, try printing to the Adobe PDF printer. If that fails, repeat with print-to-file selected. Assuming the print succeeds, open the file in Distiller to complete the creation of the PDF. If you get the PDF, then check to see if AcroTray is properly working as a background task.

  • [SOLVED][KDE, intel] Screen goes gray when switching windows

    Hello,
on my EEE netbook, since the xorg update, I guess --noticed today, as I use it for school only --, the screen goes gray after I switch windows via alt+tab. This does not happen every time, but eventually it occures. In that case the whole screen has color of not yet painted window, and the DE is seemingly not responding to anything, I can still move my mose though and cursor moves too. Switching to text console works, but xserver restart is needed to get things back to normal.
I have been using graphics system raster, but change to default didn't solved the issue. The same goes for -lcd font filters. System is up-to-date and uses some SELinux packages from the AUR if that matters, but it should not, as they are not graphics nor DE related.
Would you have any sugestions? I should not be doing any potentially risky operations till thursday, as I need the computer for school and don't have any other available.
    Thank you.
Will happily provide additional information, if you specify it.
EDIT: The situation is simmilar as when I run a program, first a fullscreen window is painted gray, and when everything is loaded its content is painted. This lasts few second in case of big applications like Kontact. In the case of mentioned bug it is like the content of window never painted.
EDIT: So I recompiled bespin-svn, as I remembered, that this package likes to cause trobles, when it is older, and I wanted to mark this solved, as it behaved during the day, but just few minutes ago, the problem happend again.
EDIT: I don't understand it. On monday it happed several times during day. On tuesday it happend once. Since wednesday it didn't happend. Sould I start to beleave in ghosts?
    Last edited by Nicky726 (2010-12-09 16:02:37)

Ok, happend again several times today. Didn't happen at any other PC, but I do not have other Intel based, in case it is graphics related.
As for log (not like I have an idea what to look for) I have error loading fbdev module and some touchpad errors in xorg.log (not imediatelly after the problem), and some Networkmanager warnings.
Damn. Now I failed three times in a row to switch from konsole to rekonq in order to copy those logs. Anyway this is tail -n 50 everything.log (right now X11 screen is just gray and mouse cursor). SELinux can be ignored as it is set permissive.

  • Programs crash when switching windows

Hi, I have had this problem for a while now (about a month after I installed Windows 8.1 on my fresh new computer).
The issue is when I switch windows (the odds are much greater if I minimise or use the show desktop button in the bottom right), the program may not respond, and require to be forcefully closed in task manager (or spamming the X
    button) to close, then reopened.
This is not normal behaviour and is starting to get onto my nerves since I constantly have to restart my browser when switching between my IDE and it.
Just recently it has started closing a particular background program too (Logitech Gaming Software) which is why I am now contacting support to resolve this issue.
    http://imgur.com/uVqpZwg
This is my step(s) to reproduce the issue.
I suspect this may have something to do with using an SSD and having a harddrive with my programs on. I modified the %programfiles% system variable and installed all new programs into that location.

Please provide us with your Event Viewer administrative logs by following these steps:
    Click Start Menu
Type eventvwr into Search programs and files (do not hit enter)
Right click eventvwr.exe and click Run as administrator
    Expand Custom Views
    Click Administrative Events
    Right click Administrative Events
Save all Events in Custom View As...
Save them in a folder where you will remember which folder and save as Errors.evtx
Go to where you saved Errors.evtx
Right click Errors.evtx -> send to -> compressed (zipped) folder
Upload the .zip file to Onedrive or a file sharing service and put a link to it in your next post
If you have updated to win 8.1 and you get the error message "the system cannot find the file specified" it is a known problem.  The work around is
to edit the registry.  If you are not comfortable doing this DONT.  If you are, backup the key before you do
    Press Win+"R" and input regedit
    Navigate to:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WINEVT\Channels. Delete "Microsoft-Windows-DxpTaskRingtone/Analytic"

  • Keep text edit active when switching windows

When editing text, switch document windows then return to the original document. The insertion point is gone, or highlighted text is no longer selected. Instead the active text item is selected. If can be quite a nuisance to have to find the text you were editing or had selected. It makes copying/pasting text between documents much harder than it should be.
This is either a bug or a stupid feature. Illustrator has enough of both.

  • Error: hang on when switching windows

    Hello everybody.
When I switch to another window (I'm a windows user) it is no more possible to come back to Encore (2.0). This is from today on. I didn't work with it since the end of the last year. Even after reinstalling it. On two computers where it worked properly before.
I thaught maybe it's because of the change to 2007 and changed the system date back to 2006 - but still the same.
    Any help?
    Thanks

An observation with a few other Adobe programs: if I have PP2, Photoshop, Audition and maybe some others open, but minimized, when I want to maximize Photoshop (only one that I have noticed this behavior with), I cannot click on it in the Taskbar. I have to rt-click, get the menu, then hit Maximize. I'm usually done with most of the others, when I'm in Encore, and even then, Photoshop responds as it should, along with Encore.
Try rt-clicking and see if that brings Encore back.

  • ITunes "stutter" when switching windows

This problem is a bit strange, so I'll explain it as best I can.
iTunes runs normally (albiet, slowly as usual, it IS still bloated iTunes) while I have its window selected, but if i click on the desktop, internet, or any other window and then click back to iTunes whatever song is playing stutters for a second, my mouse lags, and then everything returns to normal. Anything else continues running normally while this happens. My first thought was that I didn't have enough RAM, but 2gigabytes should be plenty to handle about a 1100 song library (no video, a few podcasts, no pictures). I have a 2ghz processor. The strangest part is, I noticed that, while importing a cd, I could switch from the desktop to the iTunes window without any stutter. The second importing stopped, however, the stutter began again. I'm completely stumped, anybody have any solutions or should I try to use WMP again?

Someone posted on problems with the Sophos virus checker yesterday if that is any use:

  • Lately when using Firefox the mouse no longer works and no links or tabs can be selected. The only way to get the mouse to work is to switch windows with ctrl+tab

The mouse is completely unavailable, not even able to select anything on the taskbar or start button.
When this started happening I had to restart firefox, then I tried opening the task manager to see if anything was hogging resources and I found simply opening the task manager freed up the mouse, then I found simply using alt+tab to switch windows did it, then I discovered using alt+tab to cycle through the available windows straight back to firefox does it.

  • CC window pops up when switching desktops in Mac OS X 10.8.4

I have just updated all my apps to CC. Everything looks fine so far. The only glaring annoyance I see is that the CC window pops up when switching desktops in Mission Control. I normally work with four to five desktops and switch frequently between them. The CC window keeps popping up from the menu bar icon even though there is nothing new to report or alert. Is this a bug, or is there some way to stop this?
P.S. I just tried selecting "Open As Window..." and the problem goes away. However, if I then select "Pin to Menu Bar..." again, at first it will seem to stay quiet between desktop switches, but as soon as I open the window the first time and close it again, it will resume the annoying behavior when switching between desktops. Seems like a bug to me.

    Hi Geezjan,
I recently responded to another user which was reporting the same thing. I've passed this info on to our engineering team. Thanks for letting us know.

  • Adobe Reader, MS Office window size changing when switching displays

I have a current generation (mid 2012) MBP with Retina Display running ML 10.8.3. I also have a Dell U2413 monitor, confgured for
1920x1200 resolution, connected via a Thunderbolt to Display Port cable that came with the monitor.
When I switch displays, Adobe reader, Excel, and Powerpoint all have their window sizes change dramatically. Reader
shrinks to just the status bar and is tucked in the very bottom left hand corner (it took me quite some time to even see it
was there at all); Excel windows expand dramatically to be much larger than full screen, and Powerpoint windows shrink
to about 1.5" square. Other windows (Mail, Chrome, Safari, iTunes) change or move slightly but are more or less OK.
I know this problem is expected when switching to an external monitor with dramatically lower resolution (e.g. old In Focus
projectors) but I don't believe it should happen with a hi-res monitor like the one I'm using.
I have compared this behaviour with other users running same SW versions and external monitors with the same
resoultion and they don't see this problem so I'm guessing there's some configuration option or low level setting
    that is messed up.
These window size changes happen going both from internal to external and external to internal. Any ideas?

  • Window order is wrong when switching Spaces

When I switch from one space to anther using the cntl arrow keyboard shortcut the window order in the new space is invariably messed up. It is just the display of the windows though and not the order that the OS thinks they are in.
For example if I switch to a space with Mail.app I often get the main Mail viewer window but if I go into the Window menu the email message I was working on is checked in the menu.
If I switch to a space with two apps the previously frontmost app is no longer displayed as being in front but it is actually still active.
Anyone know what the solution to this problem is?

First off, I meant to title this "When switching spaces application window is not showing."
Just in case anyone else runs into this problem or any other weirdness with switching between spaces, the answer seems to be trashing the com.apple.dock.plist file and then restarting the dock. The preferences file can evidentially get corrupted and create some problems. Spaces does not have it's own plist file but stores it's data in the dock's plist file. Be warned that this will reset all of your dock preferences including which apps you have on the dock.
