Blank Albums

I have some Albums in Photos that show up in the sidebar, but when I open them they are empty. I can see the photos in Photos at the top of the sidebar, and when I search for the photos by file name they show up as a thumbnail, but will not open.

The new Photos app is very hard to use compared to iPhoto.

Is there any error message, when you click the thumbnail to enlarge it?
The original image files may be missing or corrupted.
Do the thumbnail show little arrows in the corners, indicating that the photos have been imported referenced?
But, I also have many other albums created the same way in iPhoto that function fine???
Does the original iPhoto Library still work? Are you seeing the sam problem with the albums in iPhoto as in Photos?
Try to repair your Photos library using the First Aid Tools:
Make a backup copy of your Photos Library on an external drive.
To repair hold down the alt/option and the command key simultaneously while double clicking thePhotos application in the Applications folder to launch the First aid tools. Hold down both keys firmly and long enough, until the First Aid panel will appear.
The select "Repair ...".
If that does not solve the problem of the empty albums, repair and rebuild the original iPhoto Library that you migrated to Photos, and then migrate the library again:
Make a backup copy on an external drive.
Then try the iPhoto Library First Aid Tools on your iPhoto Library to repair the permissions and to repair the database.
To repair hold down the alt/option and the command key simultaneously while double clicking the iPhoto application in the Applications folder to launch the iPhotos Library First aid tools. Hold down both keys firmly and long enough, until the First Aid panel will appear.
The select "Repair database". Repeat with "repair Permissions".
If it still does not suffice, repeat with "Rebuild Library".
Then try to migrate the library again to Photos by dragging it onto the Photos icon in the Dock.

Why my ipad photos gets deleted but the blank album exists?

I am a new ipad user. please advise me why every time my photos which i am copying from lappy is getting deleted but the blank album is not! I am saving the copied photos in diffeent album all the time still its getting deleted in my ipad!
I need old photos as well as the new album am copying ! Please help! I got a presentation tomorrow and i need to copy so many photos to copy from my lappy!

Pictures on Photo Stream remain there for only 30 days by design. So if you setup PS on your Mac and add photos to it they will display on the iPad. However, to remain on the iPad you will have to move them to the Camera Roll (I only have an iPhone and that's what it's called on it) in order to keep them permanently. This screenshot shows the save options on the iPhone when photos in the Photo Stream are seledted. Notice the option in the lower right hand corner:
It probably is similar on the iPad.
Or, you can put the photos in an album in iPhoto and connect the iPad to your Mac. Open iTunes and go to the iPad's Pictures section. There you can select the album in iPhoto and sync those photos to the iPad where they will be in the Camera Roll section.l

Blank album art

I know this must be asked alot of times, but i wanted to create my own thread so i can ask more question. I experience blank album art in my ipod. how can i fix this?

yeah it shows correctly on iTunes... the art work on my iPod, once awhile it will disappear and show the music note image... or it just shows a half loaded image....
In order to repair that half loaded image, i had to go online to download a new art work and replace it with the old one.

Blank album after import from iphoto

after try to open one of my iPhoto library (500gb) in new photo apps....
it take some time to update and then later on it show blank album of photos which is ready to import and none of the pictures is there

It sounds as though you may have imported the thumbnails but I can't imagine how.
It all depends on what you mean by very low quality.
Your iPhoto pictures will be around 4,000x3,000 pixels but when they are imported into a standard def timeline they will be around 720x540 which is a tremendous reduction.
They should still look OK but not as good as the brilliant hi-res originals.

Importing pics for blank album covers

I copied over 100 cds into iTunes...now, of course, all I see is blank album covers when I flip through my albums...is there a way to import pics of album covers? I am loving my iPhone, but it would be so much oooler to be able to flip through album covers...like in the commercial

In iTunes, you can pull down under Advanced to "Get Album Artwork". If the iTunes store can find the same name for album it should get it.
If they're albums that iTunes can't find, you can get either an album cover picture or any other picture and copy it. Select the song (or multiple songs) in your library, Get Info, and paste it in the artwork spot.

Sharing my fix for blank album art in iphone

Just wanted to share this. I have had the problem many have had where artwork displays in itunes but shows up as blank in the iphone. The fix (v 3GS) was to in itunes, select all the songs of the affected album, right click to get info. When the dialog appears, check only the art box, cut and paste the artwork in the box. Itunes then rebuilds the songs with the art, and the next sync pushes the changes to the phone.
Also found out that if you accidentally paste the wrong art onto an album in itunes (where you drag and drop the art while a song is playing), you can drop new art over it, but the old art is still displayed. Doing a get info for the song that was playing shows both art images on the art tab and you can delete the one you were trying to get rid of.
Got direction from this forum. Hope this is useful to someone....

Although this discussion is a bit old I think it's still worth answering it as google points to this page.
The only reason for the above to happen (Different cover art appearing in horizontal and vertical) I can think of is that Iphone Cover Flow is an Album Art only.
iPhone and iTunes has at least two modes to display your music in that is:
* Song mode - where tune's art is pulled from the file if any exists.
* Album mode - where album art is shared by multiple tunes with the same "ALBUM NAME".
So if many of the songs has no ALBUM NAME at all or share something like Unknown etc. It's is likely that in Cover Flow Mode (Which is Album View) those will have some strange things displayed.
On the other hand I currently have slightly different problem hence my search. My Art is mixed up especially among the podcasts. Totally... I'll try full resync.
BTW. If you got the Art in one way or another but after uploading the tunes to iPhone you don't see it it's likely that you downloaded Art only for one of them and iTunes is showing that one for all that share the album name. If you get the art from iTunes Store then Highlight all tunes that should contain the art and right-click>Get Album Artwork, otherwise Get Info and double-click on the Artwork field on the right-hand side.

Blank album artwork can't be removed - weird

I added album artwork to an entire album by selecting all songs, opening the 'Get Info' window, and pasting the image into the Artwork field. This normally works, but on this occasion the album artwork was not showing up in cover flow. The cause seems to be a problem with the first song of the album and it's very weird. I can see the album art in the Get Info window for all the other songs, and delete it. But the first song doesn't show the artwork. There's obviously something there but no way to see it or delete it.
Here's what shows up in different views within iTunes:
Get Info > Summary:
Blank grey area where album art or 'No Artwork Available' icon should be. Sometimes it has a square black border where the artwork should be, sometimes not — the appearance of the border is completely random.
Get Info > Artwork:
Completely blank. However, the size slider IS selectable and can be moved, but nothing becomes visible. There IS something there, because you can click where the artwork should be and the 'Delete' button becomes clickable. Clicking it greys everything out as though it has deleted it, but when you click OK the problem remains.
Grid View:
Album appears as a horizontal black line (as though the cover is only a few pixels tall). It's selectable and I tried the 'Clear Downloaded Artwork' command, but it does nothing. (It's artwork I copied and pasted, but I thought it was worth a try.)
Cover Flow:
Where the album art should be is completely blank. It's just empty black space — no music note symbol.
There seems to be no way to fix the problem. I can add another cover image to the song, but it doesn't stick — when I close and reopen the Get Info window, it's gone and the weird blank image is still there.
I'm running iTunes 9.0 in Snow Leopard 10.6.1.

To be more specific, click the book you want to change, then click File -> Get Info. The select the Artwork tab. From there you can remove the current image, and add the one you want (from google images, or any other source).

Blank "Album URL" when publishing photos to MobileMe

When I upload photos to MobileMe, there is nothing liste under the "Album URL." Granted, I know how to find the album easily enough, but I have a few albums that have not shown up recently and I was hoping to visit their URL directly. Does anyone else have this issue?

Thanks and Happy New Year to Old Toad and Remy for their speedy responses. Unfortunately neither their suggestions, nor Apple/MobileMe's support worked.   I phoned AppleCare and the iLife specialist I was referred to was certain that it was not an issue in iPhoto as it had happened on two of my machines - but rather in MobileMe. MobileMe has their own support group - Chat based.     The representative I was assigned to repeatedly got my name wrong, and took forever to make any suggestions.   I was not really frustrated with him as much as I am with Apple.    They have clearly abandoned MobileMe.   I said that I used to like sharing photos to my MobileMe Gallery because it was integrated with iLife and it just worked.    I told him that this is the great thing about Apple products they just worked - but in this case I felt like I was dealing with Microsoft.
I know that publishing will sometimes work, but I think I will set up my galleries with another photo sharing service and then request a refund from Apple.    I recall Steve Jobs was publicly disappointed with MobileMe, and some of the services have migrated for free to iCloud, but they could have made it better. Now that it is sunsetted, they have abandoned paying customers like me.
There are quite a few photo sharing services out there.   I have used SugarSync's in the past, but recipients must set up an account, and I must export the photos from iPhoto first.    I see that Flickr is integrated with iPhoto, so that will be my first stop.
If anyone else has encountered the problem I have with publishing to MobileMe galleries, or knows a workaround, please post a reply.   I love Apple, but feel they need to hear from me, a loyal but now disappointed customer.

Blank Album Artwork on ipod 16gb touch

I have a random problem with the artwork for a album not showing on the ipod and the artwork shows in itunes. A black square shows on the ipod. It happens with albums downloaded from the itunes store and imported cd's. It seems to be random, and will change dependent the order of the albums. I tried removing a album from the ipod then adding it back again. The artwork will show then but disapear later. If I import another cd it will show but another album's artwork will go black. Called Apple and they where clueless on the issue and said exchange it for a new one. I think I might be wasting my time. Has anybody else had this problem?????? if so how did or did you resolve this issue

I also had all kinds of weird things going on with my artwork at first. What I did was make sure that each song of an album has the artwork attached. Go to ITUNES and select Album View. Then make sure under View (in the menu bar) that you have the Show Artwork selected. If you do you should be able to see a Now Playing box in the bottom left corner of ITUNES. Now If you go to play a song and the artwork is NOT in the Now Playing box you know you will have problems once you sync to your Ipod Touch.
What I did was note each album on my Ipod Touch, that I knew I had Artwork issues. Then I went to ITUNES and sorted by Album. I made sure I found at least one song on each album that did not appear to have album art on my Ipod with artwork in ITUNES. Then started playing the song in ITUNES just so the Artwork would show up in the now playing box. Then I would right click on the now playing box and select copy. Then finally I would highlight all the songs for the Album in question, and right click on any one of them. Once you do that you will see a Multiple Item Information box with an Artwork box and a small box next to it. Click the small box (this places a check in it) next to the Artwork box and then right click inside the Artwork box and select Paste. NOw all your songs in that album should have the same Artwork.
I found most of my problems were from CD's I ripped to ITUNES from my own collection that I had to manually add the artwork. I didn't know what I was doing and would attach the artwork to only the first song. All the albums I purchased from the Itunes store seemed work just fine.
At any rate, I encourage you to check the songs in Itunes on albums not showing Artwork on your Ipod, and I think you will see you have missing artwork (ie. no artwork showing in the Now Playing box). Once you get your all your artwork squared away in Itunes all you have to do is sync and your Ipod.
I still find missing artwork from time to time and always find that it is because for whatever reason it isn't attached to each song in an album in my ITUNES.

Some Albums Appear to Be Blanks

Hi. The iPhoto when I click on Events show album that have blank tiles but I when I compare it to the photo on the iPhone 3G (4.2.1 firmware), it's in the iPhone. What could be the solution to these blank albums? Thank you in advance.

Events are the basic place pictures live and show when you select events in the source pane on the left
Albums are logical items that hold photos and are pointers to photos in events and show under albums in the source pane events and albums can not be shown together - if you click on events you see the events - if you click on albums you either expand or contract the list of albums - if you click on a specific album you display the photos in that album

I used rename a batch to change the name of one group of pictures in an album. After that those photos were renamed, I got a triangle icon. I rebuilt the database. It progressed to a point or restoring the files and then stopped.

I then bouth iphoto library manager. I could see the albums and folder, piad for the program and then they all went away! Just a blank album. I have time machine back ups.... Help?!?

Go to your Pictures folder so you can see your library and then enter Time Machine. Go back in time till a point just before the problem happened, select the library and click on the restore button.

Opening new Album in iPhoto 11

I have tried multiple options to open a new Album, but each time I open and name, it contains the entire iPhoto library. I have more than 30 Albums and never had any issue with the old system.

Can't cut/paste album art

For some time now I have been adding/changing album cover art by cut/paste from an internet image search and then using "Get Info" to add the art. Now suddenly I can't. I can't get the Paste function to add the art. Has something changed in the last 2 days? Win7 x64, Pro.

I, also, use Chrome. I tried saving the image (.jpg) to my desktop and doing my copy/paste from there with no luck. My audio files are .mp3. All the blank album images I've tried all refuse to accept the paste. I've been having no problems with this update until recently.
Clue 1: I had a problem trying to edit the info on an album because the screen was grayed-out. It turned out to be a user permission problem. When I reset I could revise but I could also cut/paste an image...this album only.
Clue 2: I just tried copying a download directly in iTunes master music file before I added it into iTunes. It came in clean and afterwards I could cut/paste an image...this album only.
