Blank Audio Edit Window

G'day All,
This has been a subject of some previous posts I know but...
Is there a solution to the intermittent failure of opening the Audio Edit Window upon double clicking an audio file in the audio or arrange windows? It was a rare occurrence before & I put it down to a dodgy audio file, but now it is a constant mind destroying phenomenon...
Many Thanks

  • Audio edit window opens in '2nd monitor' and there is NO 2nd monitor!

    Hi,
Often when I work from home I use two monitors. When I travel and don't have access to a second screen I make do. However, I've ran into a huge issue! Whenever I choose to edit or add audio, it opens on a second monitor even when I'm not attatched to one! The window is off screen and unreachable. I usually have to do my best to find another monitor I can plug and unplug into. That fixes the issue. For the mean time I'm not able to do anything to the main Captivate screen. Is this an issue somewhere in settings? and/or what can I do so I don't have to force quite my project (can't save with audio window open).
    Windows 8
    Captivate Version 7

    Hi there
Unfortunately because the way Adobe writes their applications, this dialog doesn't have a menu as one would see in a Microsoft application. So this nifty little trick is useless with Captivate.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Lost audio editing capabilities

I've used audio for about 11 months in Captivate 2 with few
problems. Yesterday, however, I lost the ability to open the audio
edit windows. If I double-click on the audio in the timeline, a
light blue transparent color displays in the entire timeline. If I
right-click to open the audio edit window, nothing happens. I can
    play, delete, and record audio.
I also cannot publish or preview .cp files with audio. I can
publish and preview .cp files that do not contain audio. This
happens in all my .cp files.
Do you think I have a corrupt file or did I inadvertantly
turn something on or off? Any troubleshooting suggestions?
    Thanks, SweetCharlotte

Captivate allows you to simply drag the audio file on the timeline left or right.  Double click the waveform on the slide to open the Slide Audio dialog where you have more editing options.
Agreed that Captvate's audio editing abilities are not stellar.  That's because it's feature set concentrates on tasks related to creating e-learning rather than specialising in audio editing.
The Elearning Suites 1.0 and 2.0 had Adobe Soundbooth as it's audio editing tool.  The latest version 2.5 now has Adobe Audition, which is even better.  If you're serious about audio, you'll need more than Captivate on its own.

  • When I record an audio track, there is a waveform. When I stop recording, the waveform disappears and becomes a straight line. It also disappears from the track edit window. But the sound is there. How can I stop the waveform from disappearing?

When I record an audio track using Logic Pro X, there is a visible waveform which appears as I record. When I stop recording, the waveform disappears and becomes a straight line. It also disappears from the track edit window. But the sound is still there. How can I stop the waveform from disappearing? And can I do something to view it after it has disappeared? Anyone know the anser?

    In Logic:
    Preferences/Audio Set Recording Delay to 0 <zero>
This should always be set to zero unless a specific set of circumstances exist and you're audio drivers do not report position correctly.
On occasion, usually when importing a Logic 9 project, Logic-X randomly changes this to a negative/positive number.  It's actually a bug in Logic, as it should always display the waveform.

  • Audio pops when cutting soundfile in the edit window

Hello I am experiencing some strange behavior when I use the scissor tool to cut audio in the edit window.
At the moment I do this my speakers go "POP" which is really strange and kind of annoying.
Has this been happening to anyone else? Is there a fix for this?
    Any advice is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks very much in advance.

  • Blank audio (2 min) in edited exported file for DVD

I exported an edited sequence and in the middle there is an audio dropout (blank audio, not a synch slip) of about 2 minutes. The dropout doesn't show in the sequence when I have it in Final Cut; only after exporting.
I use Final Cut Express 2.0.3. The sequence in question is a nested sequence, about 45 min in length; I rendered the audio/video (both nesting sequence and the final nested sequence) prior to exporting. Exported as QT movie (not self-contained).
The blank audio begins in what was originally the middle of a clip and ends at the end of the next clip. I've made changes to the sequence and exported, but still the dropout is in the exact same place. I can't find anything in the sequence (no edit points, etc.) that would explain why it would drop out in that location each time.
I'm a Final Cut neophyte and this project has kicked my *. So close to the end and I can't get this last thing done ... someone please help.

FCP 2.0 is pretty far back there in my memory, but I do know there can be this type of issue with audio (and video renders as well) when you are working with nested sequences or audio with mixed sample rates, such as 44.1k audio from a music CD.
Rendering the audio is not the same as a mixdown, which is what I recommend to avoid the hole in your audio. You should mixdown both the nested sequence and the "container" sequence. When you export the aiff file, you can chsck teh waveform in FCP or soundtrack to visually check for holes.
Also, at times, I have been able to get rid of these holes by forcing a re-render of the offending area by placing bars or slug at 0% opacity on a track above.

  • Filmstrip show the complete slide but in the edit window it's blank - DESPERATE!!!

I am opening a course created in Captivate 5 within Captivate 5. These were created prior to my employement and now they want them edited. I can see the comleted slide in the filmstrip, but not on the "editing" screen. Captivate also doesn't launch a preview in the browser. This is on MAC.
    Thanks!

As you can see the text box is not showing in the center "editing" window while you can see it in the filmstrip to the left (second down). This is also true of the quiz questions

  • Sample Edit window - no waveform display

When I have a pretty loaded up song that's stretching the memory I find that if I try to open an audio file in the sample edit window the window is just blank with no waveforms or menues. Re-booting can solve the problem for a while then it returns midway through working on the song. I guess it's just Logic running out of internal memory (I have as much RAM installed as Logic can currently access).
Anyone have any sugestions/solutions? I've done the usual undo history thing and tried to rationalise the memory and am reluctant to start dissing plug-ins/instruments to gain the memory back - "re-organize memory" has no effect.
When this occurs I can continue to load extra plug-ins and open new instruments so the memory isn't totally maxed out but perhaps too loaded to handle the waveform display in the sample edit window.
All other elements work OK when this problem exists.

  • EXS Sampler Edit Window - pretty please HELP!

When I drag a bunch of audio regions* (kick, snare, hihat) onto the ESX edit window, It spans them across from the C1 key, one note per key. (GREAT! nothing wrong with that!)
But when I drag another bunch of audio regions, It asks which key do you want to start from C1, So I have to click UP,UP,UP,UP. until I get the next free key.
And I keep getting the wrong keys ALOT, Like I'm suppose to know its G#1 or something, just by looking at blank keys???
Is there anyway to have it add to the next free key? Automatically
I've tried dragging to the specific key I want it on (Which was how I did it in Logic7), it doesn't work.
Basically my whole workflow is thrown for a loop!
*audio regions, are multiple chopped sections of 1 audio file, not multiple audio files prechopped in recycle

  • View in edit window not getting updatet properly

    Hello
I have some problems with the view in the edit window not getting updatet correctly. I noticed this in spectral view. For example, when I zoom in very much, so I only see about 3 seconds of audio and then select one second of audio and do a time stretch, so it will be two seconds of length, the windows does not update properly.
Normally the audio behind the strechted selection should move backwards, but often the strechted portion just sort of overlaps it and it doesn't move. When I zoom out and then back in, it seems to be ok.
I also have had very weird behavior when trying to remove clicks, with the view also getting pretty messed up.
Does anyone have similar problems with the view not getting updated properly?
I am running german windows xp, audition is installed in english. I first thought that installing it in english instead of german solves the problems, but unfortunately it didn't.

  • No images in editing window, but there in Navigator

I just installed Service Pack 2 in my Vista Ultimate 32bit operating system.
After the install I opened PS, CS4 and at first every thing looked ok.
I then opened an image file, it came up in RAW, I made initial adjustments, and clicked on open image.
The image shows in the Navigator window, but there's nothing in the main editing window.
    It remains blank.
If open another window like my browser over PS, and move that window around it leaves a partial image of the browser on top of the image editing window.
I had been using Photoshop just prior to installing SP2 and everything was working ok.
I'm hoping that someone else has experienced this problem and has a solution.

Not really, but did you try to re-install your graphics card driver or a newer one? This kind of issues is almost always related to something going on there and some tools require a special compatibility update for SP2.

  • Selecting multiple keyframes in edit window

i am trying to figure out how select multiple keyframes at once in the edit window, to drag either to start or end of a clip instead of doing it one by one, i have used premiere for a long time, and i am used to just dragging a marquee box over the desired keyframes and moving them, i just cant seem to find out out this simple process in fcp. thx

You cannot grab a "selection" of keyframe's and move them within the clip, it is an all or nothing operation with FCP ... and its been yet another of the major failings of the app for a long time, the sort of thing that was forgivable for a fairly long while, but really by now it should have been addressed.
PLEASE post your feelingson this to the FCP feedback page
In the meantime, if you're happy to move all the keyframes of a specific clip rather than just a small selection, or if are happy to divide (blade tool) the clip into sections so as the keyframe slip only affects specific keyframe selections, then the operation is different depending on whether you want to slip audio of video keyframes ...
Video keyframes can be slipped relatively simply audio keyframes are a bit trickier.
    *FOR VIDEO*
Toggle open the keyframe overlay area on the timeline (option T)
Right click in this area of the clip whose keyframes you want to adjust and choose those keyframe properties that you want to adjust from the drop down menu
Then hovver your mouse over the keyframe line that appears for those properties (not on a keyframe itself but on the line that joins them) ... the cursor should change to a || shape, and if you click and drag the keyframe line whilst in this tool mode then the keyframes will move without moving the content.
    *FOR AUDIO*
Lets assume that you have applied a series of audio level keyframes to a clip and now wish to slip them a little, heres how:
Load the audio clip from the timeline into the viewer
    Select the Slip tool
Then simply click and drag on any keyframe (or anywhere on the level line itself) within the waveform area of the viewer to slip the clip's keyframes (the cursor will change to the slip tool as you hover over the right area)
... release the mouse button and you'll see that the keyframes have indeed slipped appropriately, whereas the clip's in, out and placement, has remained unchanged.
Unfortunately however, there's none of the feedback that we've come to expect from rest of the FCP interface during this process... no phantom marks showing where the keyframes are moving to, no counter to show how many frames left and right the keyframes are being moved.
It seems to be one of those not-quite-finished undocumented features.
    Hope it helps
    Andy

  • Sample edit window Help!

How can I play a selection In the Sample edit window with a key command?
If I hit Space bar (my play/stop key command) it plays from the beginning, but it doesn't play the selection, and it doesn't play even from the playhead.
    Any ideas please?

    Here's what I'm imagining:
you're using the main arrange window, you have your audio bin open as well as the sample editor. If you don't have the sample window selected, you may triggering from the audio bin. The tab key actually switches windows (within the arrange) and you'll see a subtle hi-lite of the active window.
    Maybe that'll help?

  • OT: looking for Logic Audio for Windows XP

Apologies for the crass request, but I'm looking a cheap copy of Logic Audio that will run on Windows XP. I just found some old Logic Audio recordings I did years ago, but I've lost my LAGW 4 CD, and in any case, I'm not sure if LAGW 4 even worked on Windows XP .... I've come to love Macs at work, but I haven't saved enough to make the move at home.
    Thanks,
    Kevin Murphy

I assume the key you refer to is analogous to the dongle I have for LAGW, and it sounds as if you are not willing to part with yours . I don't care much about stability, since my main interest at the moment is to do an audio track dump (with edits) and MIDI export so I can continue working in Cubase in the near term. Contact me at [email protected] if you are willing to help me out. Otherwise, I'll keep looking. It's frustrating ... there must be many thousands of people out there with unused copies of Logic Audio for Windows, especially since it was never very stable, even on Windows 95 .

  • Photos do not appear in editing window: iPhoto 5.0.4

I have a Powerbook G4 with iPhoto 5.0.4. None of my photos--from the library, last 25 rolls, last 18 months, the slide shows, various folderes and all the books--open in the editing window. Just a black screen. I haven't a clue--the last time I opened iPhoto (about six months ago) the photos appeared as usual. Now, just a blank screen.
    Help?

    Terence:
Maybe I spoke too soon; I used the iPhoto rebuilding software as you said, and it saved 786 photos in a "recovered photo" folder. After opening iPhoto, the editing window eventually shows the vertical and horizontal photos--but just outlined boxes with nothing in them. I clicked on one to open it, and it ultimately opened--as a black box! No photo, even though the system shows a recovered photo folder and the number of photos at the bottom of the editing window.
    Now what??
It'll be daylight in a few hours in your neighborhood, as we begin to darken here in Southern California. I'll check the discussions tomorrow to see if you have any new strategies.
    Thanks,
    Richard
