Blank Blue Screen of Death, Insane Nois
I have what I believe is called an OEM version of the Sound Blaster Audigy II (I.E. it came with my Dell system). For the most part, everything works very well. However, occasionally when I am playing games, the system will suddenly crash. It gives me a blank blue screen (like a BSOD without text) and my speakers make what seems like the highest pitch noise possible, while my subwoofer rumbles out something purty dang awful low. It is very loud, loud enough to be heard all over the house.
Thus far, it has only happened while I was playing games. It usually seems to happen when a very lot of noises are being played at the same time---Like when charging toward storm troopers who are firing madly while pieces of a nearby building fall, or when engaged in huge WarCraft III battles.
I got the latest drivers from Dell, since I read elsewhere on this forum that you don't recommend using your drivers with OEM versions, but it has not solved the problem. Is there anything you can do, or should I be bugging Dell?
Thank you for your time,
Lachlan Purdy

I have had the same exact problem minus the blue screen of death on basically the same system.
i just really dont think that intel boards like creative's sound card.
what can i suggest for you, is go to control panel // performance and maintenence// system//hardware// device manager//scroll down to sounds and video game controllers //select teh creative sb audigy and right click // driver // driver details// make sure all your drivers are digitally signed on with the green check mark...
that worked for me..
the way you do it make sure when you install the drivers, to have any anti virus software turned off that is what helped me out.

Blue Screen of Death -- Datebook gone, Addressbook in danger
Having some major addressbook/datebook issues with HotSync. I am using a Handspring Visor (the original, old model), Palm Desktop 4.0.1, Windows XP Home. I have not updated any of the hardware/software lately.
A couple days ago, when I synced my Handspring Visor, I got the dreaded "blue screen of death." I rebooted my computer, and then found that the Palm Desktop program wouldn't load. It gave me an error saying the addressbook database could not be opened. The sync log also gave me a series of messages like this:
"Some handheld records were not copied to your PC. Your computer may be full or you may have reached the maximum allowed records on the desktop. To correct this situation, delete some records and perform a HotSync operation again." (Below, I've pasted in the full log from the last couple days so you can see exactly what I mean.)
This morning, I synced the device again, thinking that perhaps the addressbook file had become corrupted and that a sync would clear things up. The answer was ... anything but!
I was able to get the Palm Desktop software to reopen by renaming "addresss.dat" to "address.dba." However, two major problems:
1) The addressbook on my computer is totally blank. There are three files in the "Address" folder with these extensions: .aba, .dat, and .bak. All of them are only 1 or 2 KB in size. However, this isn't a total loss because my addresses seem to be intact on my handheld.
2) My datebook has lost ALL data I've entered since roughly January 2008. All my previous years of calendar entries seem to be unaffected. This is the scary part because my handheld AND my desktop both have this problem. I tried the solution of renaming the datebook.bak file to datebook.dba (and giving the current file a .old suffix), but that did not fix the problem. Both files are 355 KB in size. I've also tried setting up a new users and copying over both these files one at a time, but that didn't fix the problem either.
Sadly, I was a fool and didn't backup my Palm files after the blue screen of death the other day; I didn't do it until AFTER that second sync this morning where my datebook data got lost.
Basically, I'm pretty sure I'm screwed about the datebook files. However, I would like to make sure my addressbook doesn't get erased from my handheld. Before my next sync, I feel like I should set the HotSync conduit prefs for addressbook to "Handheld Overwrites Desktop," but I thought I'd get some feedback from y'all before I did that. I am also really curious why I'd lose SOME of my calendar data but not ALL of it? That's the weirdest part to me.
Many thanks for any help you could provide.

Post relates to: Visor NeoWhen you sync the device to Palm desktop a file is created on the first sync with the extension .dat. When you sync the second time the data in the .dat file is copied to the .bak file. The process is cycled in that order. Each time you sync, the files are overwritten. If you sync once and notice the data is gone, don't sync again because the .bak file should have the recoverable data.
When you rename the files to recover your data you need to rename the files in the following order.
Close Palm Desktop, rename the .dat to .old. Next rename the .bak file to .dat. Reopen palm desktop and see if the data is there.
Try this and see if you can recover the data.
Here is a method for saving your data in a seperate location in case you lose data again.
The best way to preserve your data is to export the data in each category in Palm Desktop to a seperate folder on your PC.
Create a new folder on your PC somewhere that is convenient. Name it something like Palm Desktop Data. CLick on the link below and follow the instructions on that page for the export procedure.
http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=28734
With the data saved in the folder you created, make a copy of that folder and save to a flash drive, cd-rw or external hard drive. Anytime you make a change in Palm Desktop, export the data that was changed to that folder and save again to the external media.
With this process you can always import the data back into Palm Desktop anytime you have a problem with the data in Palm Desktop or if your computer/hard drive/device crashes.

help/solutions/links apperciated !! thanks in advance !!Create an ISO (Encore) or folder on your hard drive (Encore or Premiere Elements) and then use the FREE http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download to write files or folders or ISO to disc for DVD or BluRay (send the author a PayPal donation if you like his program)
Imgburn will read the ACTUAL disc brand from the disc, which is not always the same as the box label (Memorex is notorious for buying "anything" and putting it inside a Memorex box)
When you write to disc with Imgburn, use the SLOWEST possible speed setting, so your burner has the best chance to create "good, well formed" laser burn holes... since no player is required to read a burned disc, having a "good" one from a high quality blank will help -
Blue screen of death when building blu-ray in Encore CS6
I recently purchased a new laptop and installed Adobe Master Collection CS6. I purchased the laptop for video capture and editing, as well as for blu-ray authoring.
Unfortunately, although the computer and software works fine for video capture and editing, I am unable to author a blu-ray. For authoring, I am using Adobe’s Encore CS6. After checking and previewing my creation, I attempt to build to disc using Encore. About 2 seconds after clicking the build disc in Encore, I get the “blue screen of death” (BSOD). This happens every time I try to build to blu-ray (only blu-ray has this issue; I am able to build to a DVD). I am using an external blu-ray drive on USB 3.0.
I am using Encore version 6.0.0.492
Here are the blu-ray drive specs:

Blue screen of death when La Cie external firewire drive connected
I tested a LaCie external firewire drive on my iMac and it worked fine. I packed it up well and posted it to a friend who gets the blue screen of death when the LaCie is connected to her iMac. She's not even trying to boot from it.
My iMac is 9.1 and hers is 8.1. We are both running Snow Leopard. Was there some problem once upon a time with chipsets or am I mis-remembering?

Press and hold the power button down to turn of the machine.
Press and hold the Command Option R keys on the built in keyboard and press the power button, you have to be near your high speed Internet connection.
If you get something like "Install OS X" do that, it will overwrite your old copy with a new one and not touch your files or most programs.
If you can't install OS X, head to Disk Utility and First Aid > Repair Disk and Permissions and try reisntalling OS X again. (do not erase the drive as this will wipe your data off, unless your sure)
If you still get the white/gray screen with nothing while holding the Command Option R keys at boot time, I suspect your EFI firmware has been borked somehow and it's not loading to respond to the at boot key commands.
We are able to reinstall the EFI firmware ourselves, but the current method requires a machine with a internal optical drive. This problem occurs so rarely that it's not been used much and certainly unknown how well it works off a USB thumb drive, which is what I suspect the Apple Store/Repair will do.
Since your under warranty, I would have Apple replace the EFI firmware and check the machine out for hardware issues as well.
Buy AppleCare and a external drive for TimeMachine backups. -
Blank blue screen on macbook air
I've suddenly got a blank blue screen on a first gen Macbook Air (the Mac equivalent of the blue screen of death I'm afraid). It will run the start-up without a sad mac to the point of the blank screen and then nothing.
I suspect the hard drive, but would appreciate any additional information.
Is there any way to access the disk to see if I can get any of the data? (in truth it's my mother's computer and no, she did not keep a current back up)
MTry starting up while holding the Option key down. That should prompt the Startup Manager window where you can select the startup disk.
If that doesn't help, try Resetting the PRAM
If that doesn't help, startup in Safe Mode
A Safe Mode boot takes longer than a normal boot so be patient.
If you can access Safe Mode, you may be able to retrieve files, but no guarantees.
To restart normally, click Restart from the Apple menu.
Tip... when posting for help, please tell us which OS X is installed. Some troubleshooting can depend on that.
If you aren't sure, when you are Safe Mode, click About This Mac from the Apple menu.
The version is noted there.
If you couldn't boot in Safe Mode, try repairing the startup disk.
For v10.7 or later, restart the Mac while holding down the Command + R keys so you can access OS X Recovery to repair the disk.
If the Mac has v10.6 installed, insert the install disc that came with the Mac. -
Raid + Vista + Quicktime = Blue Screen of Death
There is definitely a problem with Quicktime 7.16/Quicktime professional.
my system:
Abus p5b premium Vista MB
2 WD2500SK in RAID 0
2 gig DDR2 800 memory
8800GTX video
Vista Ultimate
Any quicktime movie I play runs fort about 1-2 seconds, the image blanks, and the Blue Screen of Death.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstallin Quicktime.
I've tried disabling Direct X.
There is not a problem with the hardware because you take the same computer, same quicktime movie and runit in Nero's
Show Time 3 and it plays perfectly. All other movie formats in other players that I've tried (assorted avi, mpg, rm) also play gereat which once again indicates that the problem is Apple's software, not the hardware.
A google search shows it is people using RAID that have this problem:
http://www.google.com/search?q=Quicktime+VistaBSOD&rls=com.microsoft:*&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&startIndex=&startPage=1
Movies dwonloaded from ITunes also can crash, but not as perdictably as .mov movies.
I called Apple tech support and was told to call (512) 674 8700. Called the numer and they are not open on weekends.
I will update the post when I get through to support.
I am suprised that Apple does not seem to have an email address for quicktime support. If anyone knows of one please post it.
PeterOK, I applied the 7.5.1017 driver. Still the same issues, choppy play and buffer overuns on some files.
As a test I copied seome the files not working right to the P5B's built in flash drive, they play fine there.
So it is definitely Apple and Intel not getting along.
BTW Vista scores the drive speed 5.9, so it isn't slow drives.
And no other software (including Nero's video player) have any problems.
It is too late to call Apple tech support today, but I'll post there answer whe I get one.

Error 13 = Blue Screen of Death?
Thought I'd try this board and see if anyone knows anything about 'error 13' and Panther.
I have been plagued by this error message which pops up whenever I try to print from either of my printers or burn a CD. This all happened after I tried to load a demo version of Adobe Illustrator CS2.
Over the last day I have tried the following:
* deleted the apple.com.print preferences
* reset the PRAM
* unplugged, unpowered and restarted the printers and their USB connections
* deleted the printers from the print setup utility and tried to reinstall them (but there too I get the 'error 13' message. Printers won't load but they do show up as if they loaded. Just won't work, that's all.
* tried logging in as a new user, and then the printer message is "Not enough RAM" to print.
* repaired the disk permissions from the CD
Generally I've done everything I can think of... except to reload the OS, which I hesitate to do because I have to first load Jaguar, then the Panther update, then the other updates. Last time I tried that things didn't quite work out.
I do have an external backup drive, which also got corrupted as I tried loading the Adobe Illustrator CS2 on that disk too. Dumb I know...
So... anyone know what 'error 13' means?
Is 'error 13' the Mac equivalent of the Windows Blue Screen of Death?
Thanks for any input...Hello Pawel,
I have looked over the service request you mentioned about acquiring 2 PCIe-6537 at 20MHz sampling rate on all 32 lines. In order to narrow down this issue, I think it would be best to try only acquire from both cards without doing any triggerring etc. Also when performing this test, I would only want to acquire from 8 channels on both cards to see if this reproduces it. If this works, we can slowly add more elements to narrow down what the issue is and make us more effective to solve the problem.
I also wanted to ask if you have tried this setup on another machine and if it worked.
Along with this, have you tried to create two Digital Tasks in MAX and try to acquire for the same amount of time to see if the issue reoccurs here? This would tell us if this problem is connected to the driver/computer or LabVIEW.

Ipod crashes windows (blue screen of death)
Hi all. A bit of background info:
A couple of months ago the hard drive crashed on my friends computer. They had to reinstall their OS. Thankfully they had made backups of most everything and were able to get most things reinstalled successfully.
Now they are using a 15g ipod connected through a firewire port on an HP laptop. They do not have a USB adaptor, so gotta go with the FW.
Anyway, when they connect the ipod the computer completely crashes to the blue screen of death and does the physical memory dump. There is an error message, something along the lines of a driver issue.
I know this is vague information, but any pointers on how to proceed in troubleshooting this would be greatly appreciated, thanks
Frosthi Frostine!

we can sometimes narrow this down a bit by checking on the numerical and text codes showing up with the blue screen. (ie 0x[zeros/letters/numbers] CAPSANDUNDERSCORES)
here's a reference on the sorts of things i'm checking on:

can you get that information for us from their PC?
(if the screen is specifying the file that Windows is crashing on, that would be helpful to know too.)

Windows Vista Crashing When Ipod is Plugged In. Blue Screen of Death?
A week ago, my computer suddenly started to reboot whenever I plugged my 5th generation 80 gig Ipod in to sync. A blue screen will pop up, and automatically restart.
I do not believe this is the blue screen of death that appeared 2 months ago. I have upgraded to Itunes 8.0.1 when it was first released, and I had no problems until a week ago. I haven't heard of anyone receiving the blue screen of death since the update to Itunes 8 was released.
I have also lost all of my music from my Ipod, so I am anxious to figure this out.
Here is what the blue screen (certain passages paraphrased, the specifics were copied directly):
A problem has been detected and windows has shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
BADPOOLHEADER
If this is the firs time you've seen this stop error screen, restart yoru computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:
Make sure all hardware and software is properly installed
If it continues, disable/remove any newly installed hardware and software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shawoding. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 for Advanced Sartup options, then select safe mode.

Blue Screen of Death When opening iTunes.
I am at a loss. For the past six months I have been trying to figure out why my computer has a blue screen of death and then restarts "nearly" everytime i open iTunes. The "nearly" is what's driving me nuts because every once in a while it will open ONCE and then start crashing again. I don't even do anything to help it open it just miraculously works every now and then. It even craches the comp when starting iTunes in safe mode. The blue screen error says "Page Fault in non-paged area". iTunes worked fine for months before this randomly started happening. I have tried every solution I have seen, even ones that weren't for my problem. So far I have:
Manually uninstalled iTunes and QT and reinstalled the standalone QT then iTunes.
Disabled itunes helper and ipod service before starting.
Disabling all other services and start-up items.
Installed current bios and drivers (as far as I can tell)
Installed current windows installer.
Updated microsoft products including .net
Updated Java runtime environment
Replaced ram
I have a pentium 4 1.6ghz with soyo mobo and a RAID card(mirrior) set-up. 1 gig of pc133 ram. I can ul the minidump if needed.
I figured out how to load my podcasts on my ipod manually but I want to get a video ipod so I need itunes. PLEASE HELP!!
Windows XPthere's a few more things worth checking on. but let's also capture a minidump of the crash and send it to someone who can interpret minidumps.
To set up your machine to capture a minidump, right click on "My Computer", select "Properties", select the "Advanced" tab, select the "Startup and Recovery" Settings button, select "small memory dump" from the popup. When it crashes, look for the MiniDump file. It's usually in the folder "C:\WINDOWS\Minidump" and is called something like Mini<number>-<number>.dmp.
send it to this email address
in the email, put the URL to this discussion thread, so that whoever gets it has some context. Also give as much information about the context of the crash (in the email) as you can.

Blue Screen of death - now can't load Windows (even in safe mode)
Last night laptop (Satellite L500 19Z; Win 7 64 bit) crashed whilst playing CIV4. Got a blue screen of death; before I had chance to read any of the error messages on it the machine rebooted.
It loaded windows in safe mode fine then, and informed me as it had loaded safe mode OK the problem will be related to some recently installed software and I should uninstall programs I'd installed until it would load normally. As it was late last night I shut down and thought I'd sort it in the morning (in retrospect this may have been a mistake ....).
Today, when the machine tries to boot up it attempts a Startup Repair; unfortunately this fails every time and it says "Startup repair has tried several times but still cannot detemine the cause of the problem"
I looked at the log it produces but it passes all the individual tests.
I also can't access the advanced options for system recovery & support, which appears on the Startup Repair dialog box as it demands I be logged in, which apparently I'm not (presumably as the machine never got to the windows login screen before trying the startup repair). The error message reads "you must be logged in to access system recovery options. If you are having trouble logging in please contact your computer administrator for assistance. please click OK to restart the computer."
I've had a go at booting into the various advanced options (safe mode, safe mode with command prompt etc. but the outcome is the same).
I also tried the Repair your Computer option from the advanced boot options screen, but after the screen where it asks you to choose the language and keyboard, I get the same login error mentioned above.
Is there a way to repair or even run the hard disk based windows recovery (haven't got the recovery DVD with me as I'm away from home for a couple weeks) without logging into windows? I would have expected there to be but have yet to figure out how to do it.
(there are no disks in the disk drive, no other devices attached to the laptop - I've tried it with mains power and with the battery and have not noticed any differences)
Thanks
JamesNormaly the reinstall data is on a separate part on your HD, not in Windows.
The register is only used for Windows.
If it doesn't work you can always try to reinstall from a DVD later.
It does mean all your data on C:\ will be gone. If you can hook your HD on an other PC you can try to safe your work with a recover prog. -
Blue screen of death when connecting ipod or running itunes
Please help me, I get the blue screen of death and its down to my itunes/ipod i think.
Uninstalled Itunes (tried doing this in safe mode but it wouldnt let me saying you cant do this) and re-installed it but when try to use it (ipod not connected) my screen either freezes a few moments later or the BSOD appears.
Ive ran a windows disk check and a system mechanic 7 one as well, a few folk on here have said my ipod might need reset but this is happening without the Ipod connected so is still an issue?
My ipod seems to be working fine, obviously i cant even access itunes to reset it or see its status.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.Have you tried this?

Blue screen of death on Toshiba P755-S5375 with ADOBE ENCORE CS6
