Blank Blue Screen  with diagonal lines

My new ACD 23 display is occassionally showing a blue screen with diagonal lines running through it. When I reboot, it comes up fine. I am using the monitor with a PC. It usually happens in the morning after it has been in sleep mode and I start the days work.
Any ideas as to what this could be?
Thanks,
J. Paul

Only your OEM DVD has AHT, and not if you have installed a newer OS or reformatted.
Swap graphic card. You have a 3-4 yr old system.
Don't rely on fsck or Apple First Aid either.

grey screen no apple followed by blue screen with vertical lines. Graphics and logic board replaced <6 months ago. What to do? I held down shift, it gets HOT HOT and makes noises. (for safety mode) followed by a blank grey screen and blue screen. Then tried the other way (sorry, I think  it's command alt delete? I don't remember) and it turned from grey (no apple symbol) to blue blank. Then third time, grey followed by blue with vertical lines, not blocky clear lines that you can see if you are close to it.
    Thanks for any help!

You have to take the computer to the Apple store to have it checked out.

  • What does it mean when you computer crashes and when you turn it back on it shows you a blank blue screen with a little folder and a question mark in the middle?

What does it mean when you computer crashes and when you turn it back on it shows you a blank blue screen with a little folder and a question mark in the middle? It's a old imac from 1997.

I don't have original discs that it came with.
Then you still can use the second option with the keyboard combo I posted, called "resetting the PRAM."
Also when you way hold the c key down do you mean turn computer off and turn back on holding the c key?
Yes, or you can simply restart. As you don't have the CDs, this isn't on the plate any more.
The internal backup battery is not expensive and, in most iMacs is user-replacable. If yours has a tray-loading optical drive like this one:
it takes a major teardown to replace the internal battery. If this is the case, you'd be better off to leave the computer plugged in all the time; that eliminates the main reason for having a working battery.
If it has a slot-loading optical drive like this one:
things are much easier. The battery is visible through the RAM access door on the bottom of the computer case. The manual:
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/iMacG3_2000UserManual.PDF
has sketches of how to access the RAM and therefore the backup battery. Unfortunately, the pdf on the manual goes up sideways on-screen and the RAM instructions are pretty deep into the manual. It's probably easier to scroll (for a while) to the section on adding RAM and print the applicable pages.
When you work on the battery, some sort of non-conductive pliers or large tweezer or forceps help unless you have tiny fingers. Make sure to note the polarity of the old battery and install the new one in the same orientation.
The battery itself is readily available. If price is no oblect, you can get it for a small rasom from Radio Shack Store ("Tandy" outside the US) as part number 23-026.
Online, they are dirt-cheap even after adding shipping. I buy backup batteries form this outfit:

  • HT6114 Since updating my mbp it has started freezing on a bright blue screen with verticle lines.

Hello, II have just used teh software update and it updated my macbook pro - I think I am now using Maverik, 0SX 10.9.2
My computer keeps crashing with a bright blue screen and verticle lines. One time it crashed so it looked like my desktop was a split screen. I reboot and it starts up OK but then it happens again. I have run disc utility which says I there are no problems. Does anyone know what is happening and how to fix it?
    Thanks

Might be a hardware issue.  (graphics card)

  • I have light blank blue screen with no other options?

My screen went to a blank background light blue color with no other options visable.  What can I do to fix it?
Is it a software issue or a graphics card issue?  Any thoughts are welcome.
    Thank you in advance.

Thank you, but it didn't clear it.  The first step you mentioned didn't seem to make any difference unfortunately.
The second safe mode option did help in providing me my regular screen though it was fuzzy and it asked me to restart the computer.
I restarted the computer and I'm back to blank light blue background screen with no options.
Does it mean anything that I did have something under the safe mode though it was fuzzy/grainy?
    Please help..

  • Blank blue screen -- but no lines!

I searched for a good while and found that most everybody seems to be having problems with vertical stripes. This is not my problem.
    Here's wht happened:
    1. iTunes froze. In a big way that I've never seen before, repeating as though it were a skipping record. There was no way out except to do the emergency power down move.
    2. I waited five minutes and booted again. Or I tried to. The Apple comes up (no frowns), the wheel spins, the screen goes bright blue... and then the weirdness starts. The color of the screen seems to get lighter and darker. When it's lighter, I can see the icons on the right side, but I can't grab one long enough to click it.
When I get those short glimpes of the desktop, it seems that the screen is okay -- resolution looks fine, all the icons are there. But that lasts about a second, and then it's gone again.
Any suggestions on where to start would be greatly appreciated.

An update. I used a firewire cable and using my daughter's MacBook, I was able to get into the harddrive on my PowerBook G4. All my files, everything intact.
I ran disc utilities on my harddrive (from hers) but it found nothing wrong.
    Hmmmm.
I transfered a lot of crucial files to my daughter's computer, ejected my computer's hard drive from her screen, turned my computer off.
Waited five minutes. The same problem, no difference at all.
Is there some other utility I could use to do a remote check of my harddrive? Please say there is.

  • R7970 Lightning grey/blue screen with vertical lines crash

    Hi there,
Hoping to get some help from MSI regarding this issue
I've had this R7970 Lighting for about a year now and up until now did not have issues with it. Yesterday I was trying out how far I could OC with stock voltages using MSI afterburner and the screen suddenly went grey with vertical stripes in a ordered fashion (dark grey, light grey, with a pattern). The computer seemed to have completely locked up and required a hard power off (reset switch didn't work)
Over the next 24 hours I've installed multiple drivers (some people online have issues with the newer AMD drivers) from 12.4 to 13.4 to no avail (I did proper cleaning using Driver Sweeper and CCleaner in between each). I did a complete reformatting and reinstall of win7 (UEFI) to no avail.
The issue can now be triggered easily by launching any 3D program (crash immediately upon display of 3D material) or just by booting and running a few standard programs like browsing around windows explorer and launching CCC.
Is my card dead? Should I RMA or is this a software/BIOS issue?
    Thanks in advance.

if it happened when you had the issue happen while pushing the clocks up you have probably damaged the GPU internally from a frequancy it couldn't handle!
if it doesn't now work at stock clocks for the R7970 lightning then i would say you need to RMA the card as the GPU is shot...

  • Our IPAD was dropped and now has a blue screen with little line pattern on the very left side (like a margin) - any chance for it's recovery?

Any solutions for this? Won't turn off - letting the battery die at this point to see if a restart will help. Any ways to save at this point? Thanks in advance for any tips or help!

Nevermind!!! We figured out how to fix it! Home button + OFF button for 30 seconds - restarted and we are down to 8 lives!!! YAY!

Any ideas please, if not would restore files work or full back up disc
Thanks very much for any help

    Hi
    Check this:
Click right on the desktop and choose Personalize.
There you should check the area: Basis design and design with high contrast
    Choose Windows 7 basic.
    Then reboot the unit.
Usually this should help to get the Windows 7 common design and desktop settings.
But if this will not help then you could use an fast solution which would be a usage of the recovery disk of HDD recovery option.
This would format the HDD and would reinstall everything again

What you describe sounds like a hardware issue. Unfortunately, you'll need to get that checked out by Apple. If you have an Apple Store near you, make an appointment with the Genius Bar and take the machine in for evaluation.

  • My macbook pro freezes and then displays a blue screen with black stripes... do you know what's wrong with it?

My macbook pro freezes and then displays a blue screen with black stripes... do you know what's wrong with it?
I have a two and half year mac book pro... I've had some issues with the screen looking scrambled when I quit certain applications, but now it's turned into something worse.  I'll be working on my computer and the thing will freeze.  When I force restart, the first screen, the apple logo, will be a blue tint and won't boot up normally.  Then I try safe mood and it will then boot just fine.  But there are blue stripes on my screen.  The screen alternates from a blue tint to normal and if the computer freezes again the screen will become completely blue with black stripes.  I haven't tried reinstalling my software because I don't have the startup discs that came with my computer.  If I was sure that would fix it I would purchase them, but if it's a hardware issue I'm afraid that I'm screwed.  I've been able to successfully get the blue off my screen by putting it to sleep and then waking it up, but that's not working well anymore either.
Does anyone else have experience with this?  Is it the firmware or what?  I have a MacBook Pro from early 2011 and I'm running Mac OS X 10.6.8.
    Please help... Thanks!

I just experienced this exact same issue with my early 2011 15" macbook pro. Since like a month after purchasing it I had issues with the screen randomly going dark on me. I sent it in for repair inder waranty they replaced the gpu and logic board but I continued to have the same issues with the screen randomly going black sometimes I would need to reboot it in order to get the screen to go back on but it happened so infrequently and I used the computer for school so disnt find the time to resend it in to apple. Just last night the screen started to display the blue screen with black verticle lines on it. I called apple and explained to them  the issues that had been ongoing since I purchased the laptop but they said because I was now outside of warantee that any repairs at thia point wouldn't be covered. Fml so glad I spent 2200 on this future proof macbook pro what a joke my sister purchased a toshiba laptop for 300 4 years ago and it still running like a champ. I loved my macbook but at the price I paid I expect it to last longer than 2 years before leaving me high and dry. *** apple??

  • Dreamweaver Template: circle with diagonal line in editable region, but can still edit

Since upgrading to Dreamweaver CC 2014, for only one of dozens of clients, in a Template, I get a circle with diagonal line in editable region, but I can still edit it, I just can't click to the spot that I want to edit, I have to navigate there with the up down left and right arrows on my keyboard. And, I created a new Template and it didn't happen, until I "got" a file, and now it happens in the new Template too. What's going on?

Sorry, I'm new here. Do you mean like a screen shot? I just thought maybe somebody had seen this before and would just tell me "you need to uncheck the something or other"
