Blank box when opening pdf within a webpage

Often, but not always, but TOO often, when I try to open a pdf document within a webpage, the pdf is shown as blank white and a single blank box pops up.  The only option is to hit OK, which doesn't do anything.  There's no error code or message.  Just a blank box.  It was happening with google chrome so I went to internet explorer and it was okay, but now it does it there too.  It even happens with my stamps.com account which connects to the internet but I would hardly consider it a browser.  I use Windows 7 and Acrobat 9 Pro.  Somebody PLEASE help me!  I've had this problem for weeks... but it's inconsistent - like one time out of twenty there's not a problem at all.  Maybe it's a compatibility issue?  Is there some kind of upgrade that will solve the problem?  Any input is appreciated!

  What version of Acrobat 9?
Or, which "dot version"? Adobe's Acrobat support of Windows 7 begins with dot version 9.2.

  • Adobe & Internet Explorer crashing when opening pdf within an Internet Explorer window

    Hello,
Can anyone help me with this issue or maybe point me in the right direction? Thank you!
Working with in a ASP that uses reader to display forms. The form opens as an embedded adobe form in a new Internet Explorer window. Once the form opens it pulls data from the ASP. At times when the form opens in the new window both the Internet Explorer windows close. Other times a "user request stop" error appears and once OK is pressed both windows close. The ASP does not know what causes this & can not seem to replicate the problem. ASP is on the other side of the country.
Would the acrotray.exe be causing this?

    Hello,

  • Error Box when Opening PDF in Browser

Ever since I installed CS4 Web Premium on my new Windows 7 32 bit install when I try to open a PDF in the browser it opens a Blank Error Box (like a javascript alert box, but with nothing it).  When I close the box I just get a white page.  If I hit refresh the PDF opens fine.  If I try and hit the URL directly again, the problem is back.  The same happens in all my browsers:  IE8, Latest FF and Chrome.  I can download and open PDFs just fine, but trying to open them in a browser window always does the same no matter what site I am on.
Perhaps related, but possibly not ... I also have similar behavior from Flash.  Some sites with Flash elements on the screen give me what appear to be debug messages.  I have seen this happen in all browsers, but it doesn't happen with all flash, just some.
I checked my add/remove programs and all I have installed is:
    Adobe Air
Adobe Creative Suite 4 Web Premium
    Adobe Flash Player 10 AciveX
    Adobe Flash Player 10 Plugin
    Adobe Media Player
Any idea what might be going on with this?  It is getting really annoying.

Sideo21, you said "...C:Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader10.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe", but there is no option to change it."
I had tried the other steps but didn't work for me. However, here's what worked for me.
Like you, I also have Adobe X V10.1.2 (on Windows 7 64-bit), and the path is showing 10.0 and there is no option to change it. (I think this should be edit-able). My path in Adobe preferences was missing the \Reader directory, so I copied the AcroRd32.exe from the actual Reader\ directory and pasted it into the \Reader10.0 directory so that the path matches. Now, when I open a PDF doc from Chrome V16, the PDF document opens up fine and there are no error messages.
    Thanks for the hint Sideo21.

  • Acrobat 7 shuts down imidiately when opening PDF-files on webpages

The company in which I am employed used Acrobat 7. A while ago 1 or 2 employees started having problems opening PDF-files from web sites. PDF-files on our server and local hard drive would open with no problem. Since then the problem has spreaded to almost all the employees.
When we click on a link which links to a PDF-file, Acrobat loads the file normally and then shuts down imidiately.
I have tried to uninstall and reinstall Acrobat. I have tried to upgrade to the newest sub-version of the Acrobat 7. I have tried to right-click, open in new window. Nothing helps.
Has anyone experienced this and solved it?
    Your help is greatly appreciated!

Update: In my company we have decided that we do not want PDF-files to open in Internet Explorer (because of reason related to out intranet) when clicking on a link to a PDF-file on the internet, so we have unchecked the setting "Show PDF in browser".
When I re-check the setting "Show PDF in browser" the above mentioned problem disappears. Why oh why?

  • Blank page when opening pdf's

I recently updated to 11.0.07.  Whenever I try to open a pdf file now I get a blank page.  It doesn't matter if the pdf was a file already on my hard drive or sent to me in email.  They all open as a gray box (with NO x in the corner).  I tried repairing the installation but it didn't do anything.  Please help?

I have the same problem. When I try to open a pdf file on a web page in IE7 running on Windows XP it opens a blank page. with "Done" in the bottom left alongside a Warning Icon. Clicking this reports Object expected.
Sometimes I can save the target to my desktop and view the pdf file, in other cases such action is prohibited by the host. I had no problem until recently. I have tried F5 with no affect. I have file type PDF set to open with Acrobat Reader 9.1.
I also have Acrobat Reader 4 and Nuance PDF Creator installed on my PC and after changing the file association I get the same problem with these.

  • How do I keep round cornered boxes when opening CS4 to CS4

I produce a lot of forms which have round cornered boxes within the text boxes, when opening these indesign CS4 files into CS5 the boxes lose all but one of the round corners. The only fix I can see is to manually adjust the boxes within CS5. Is there an easier way? or will an update improve this. I find this very frustrating as I only have about 700 forms produced which will all need to be fixed.
    Please help!

I sympathise, it's exactly the problem with upgrading.  I don't think Adobe cater for the user with 1000's of files very well,
Well, Stix, I don't think they cater to small users with thousands of files. I'm sure that if my organization was buying hundreds of licenses for the full Creative Suite, and maybe LiveCycle Server, that they might be able to cater to me. But since we're only buying 1 license of the Suite and 4 of InDesign, then the fact that I have an archive of tens of thousands documents in forty languages going back to the early 90s that have to be updated on an intermittent basis, is not really high on Adobe's list of things about which it is important to care. My file management needs, while totally critical to me (and by extension the refugees I serve), aren't going to be that important to Adobe. They don't cater to me, and I can understand this, as I am not a big revenue stream for them.
Wow, I'm flabbergasted! who knew that I would need to do this??
However, the fact that it seems that only the forums regulars know  these critical facts is a massive failing on Adobe's part. I fail to  understand why this stuff that we post over & over again isn't  pointed out to the users when they install ID, or when they open a file  that was created in a previous version of ID. Seems like a  mind-numbingly obvious case for one of those little checkboxes that says  "Don't show me this again." Illy seems to handle this without issue.
my documents are of a style whereby I may need to make changes to two
words in a document created in Indesign from 2004, are you suggesting
that I need to keep all versions of Indesign for evermore and only use
the program that created the document to open/edit? This is a very
    impractical solution.
As Bob has already pointed out... yeah. It's impractical, but it is also a solution.
In your shoes, I'd mention to your IT folk that your long-term IT plan should include keeping some old apps around in virtualization; that way when InDesign CS10 reflows your document created with CS6 when you just want to update a logo, you can just boot up your image of Windows 2012 End-Of-The-World-Edition without needing IT to help you out.

  • Error opening PDF within Workbench

    Hello,
We are on SAP MII 12.1.7 build 47 (SP07 patch 02)
I created a simple transaction to create PDF and stored under default web folder. The transaction runs fine, the PDF gets saved but when I try to open it within workbench I get following error
Files of this type cannot be loaded in the workbench, just imported and deleted
    I tried saving both using
    db://
    and
    web://
but when export the same PDF to my desktop i can open it properly and also contains needs data.
So, is it not allowed to open PDF within Workbench? or am I missing something here?
    Please suggest
    Regards,
    Adarsh

You are correct - the workbench does not open PDF files (they can't be edited there anyhow).
If you want to see it then just use the relevant http path in your browser like any other web page.

That choice is not made by Adobe, but your browser, of which you give no details. 64-bit browsers cannot open PDF files, as the Adobe Reader plugin is a 32-bit app.

  • Difference between opening PDF within IE with pressing SHIFT key and without SHIFT key

    Hi,
I want to know when we open a PDF file within Internet Explorer it is using ActiveX control AcroPDF.dll behind the scene.
Now If I open PDF within IE with keep pressing SHIFT key the behavior is different then without pressing SHIFT key?
Is AcroPDF.dll behaves differently in this situation?
    Thanks,
    Twinkle

I've saved two files on my desktop:
    f1040.pdf - downloaded from www.irs.gov - 187 KB
    afmod07.2.1g.pdf - downloaded from my intranet - 1,04MB
I've powered off my PC and restarted for each file. I've opened files with double-click on them. I've encountered the same problem, when double-clicked on files in task manager two Acrord32.exe appeared, the PC was doing anything for about 10 second, after that I've encountered no activity in task manager (numbers not vary) for other 10 seconds (like freeze) and after that other about 10 seconds of loading. So after about 30 seconds the file opens with stand-alone Acrobat Reader (11.0.10).
If I retry now (after the first slow startup "of the day") the file opens in 2-3 seconds.
    So:
    - first open of the day or rebooting PC: 30-45 seconds
    - second open of the file: 2-3 seconds
This is happening only with PDFs with forms.

  • Adobe Reader 8.1.2 (admplugin.apl) crash when opening PDF files

    Hi,
I did spend some time today trying to get Adobe Reader 8.1.2 to run on a Citrix Access Essential 2.0 server.
    Setup
    Server OS:
    Windows Server 2003 SP2 - fully patched.
    Other software:
    Office 2003 Standard, Danish, SP3
    Symantec Antivirus 10.1
    Adobe Reader 8.1.2, Danish
The installation is clean (1 week old).
    Problem description:
When opening PDF files, Adobe Reader crashes before showing any content from the PDF file. The module crashing is admplugin.apl.
    Work-arounds tried:
Uninstalling and reinstalling Adobe Reader 8.1.2 (DK).
    Disabling Antivirus (service stopped)
Replacing admplugin.apl with admplugin.apl from Adobe Reader 8.0
Uninstalling DK version and installing US version.
Adding user to local Administrators to exclude any permission related problems.
Deleting Adobe folders from users profile Application Data\Adobe\... and Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe\...
    Turn DEP off
    Solution:
Finally I gave up and installed 7.0.9 (Danish). It works as expected.
It seems that the problem is known and a few user has reported this. One Adobe KB article mentions the problem, and the solution is to disable some 3. party diagnostic/support tools provided by DSL providers. This is definitively not the issue in this installation.
Anybody from Adobe having any input to this problem?
    Best regards from Denmark!

    Hi,
I am having a similar issue with Ver 8.1.2 running over cirtix with a similar setup to Jans-Peter.
The difference is that Reader opens fine but when you try to edit preferences it crashes.
This only happens on an citrix session. If I run reader on the server directly it works OK.
However after reading above I can replicate the problem on the server by moving or deleting the ADMPlugin.apl file.
    Any further ideas at all?

  • Adobe Reader 11.0.05 won't always display the GUI when opening PDF?!

I have come across some odd behaviour with Adobe Reader 11.0.05. In particular, the following issues seem to have surfaced since upgrading to 11.x from 9.x.
Opening a PDF from any application, launches an "AcroRd32.exe" process but the GUI is not shown i.e. you don't see a Reader window or PDF. If you try open the PDF again it will launch another instance of that process and still won't show the GUI. Killing all AcroRd32.exe processes via Task Manager and re-opening the PDF will then work.
Some users are experiencing the following error when opening PDFs via IE and other 3rd party apps.
We've deployed 11.0.05 across a few thousand 32-bit Windows 7 PCs and it's a little concerning that PDFs won't always open. At this stage it is very random, maybe 1 out of 5 times it won't show the GUI but launch the process. Our only workaround is to advise users to kill all AcroRd32.exe processes and try again.
Our packaged 11.0.05 was created as follows:
AIP created from 11.0 msi > AIP patched with 11.0.04 msp (Q) > AIP patched with 11.0.05 msp (OOC). Transform was created using Adobe Customization Wizard 11.
Oddly, this does not occur using Adobe Reader 9.5.5 (or other versions of 9.x).
Sounds like 11.x is buggy, anyone else experiencing the same issues??
    Thanks!

Yes, I am always having problems. Microsoft fixed the problem for me but it has reverted back to a trial I downloaded. I can't access my PDF at all.

  • Acrobat 8 Standard crashes when opening PDFs created from  Microsoft Project 2007

Issue: Acrobat 8 Standard crashes when opening PDFs created from Microsoft Project 2007.
    OS: Win XP Pro SP3
    Error Message(s): None
Details: This issue happens with multiple Microsoft Project files (including new files), multiple PDF creators (included Acrobat 8 Standard) and on multiple computers. We also tried opening the PDFs in Adobe Reader 8 instead of Acrobat Standard 8. There is no record in the event log on the computers of the application crashes.

I may have a resolution now...
I clicked Tools -> Options -> View and turned off Bars and shapes in Gantt views in 3-D" on the advice of someone on a Microsoft Forum. I made three PDFs from three Microsoft Project files (that were having trouble previously) and was not able to get these PDFs to crash when zooming or changing pages. So far so good!

  • Adobe Acrobat hangs when opening PDFs even after reinstall

    Hello,
I have 2 new Dell systems that are having issues with Adobe Acrobat.  When opening PDFs, either from an email attachement or file from our server, there is a brief hang that lasts 10-15 seconds, during which Acrobat is unresponsive however the workstation continues to respond.  I've since uninstalled/reinstalled, still no luck.  I've also run updates. Problem unresolved.
    Any ideas

One of our users is having a similar issue with Adobe Reader 9.2 hanging.  Adobe Reader will eventually open after about 5 seconds.  I've found a work around where if I leave a .pdf document open, any other .pdf I click will open up fine (but a .pdf needs to be left open in Adobe Reader).  This is happening only with one user.  Some of the things I've tried that have not worked: repairing, uninstalling/reinstalling, deleting temp files, opening the file with a different account/profile, downgrading to Adobe Reader 8.1.3.  Anyone have any ideas?  This is only happening to one user at my company.  I've searched the forums here and it looks like other people are having similar issues but there's really not a solution to this.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you in advance.

Problem statement: Outlook 2013 email message goes behind main Outlook window when opening PDF attachment with Adobe Reader 11.0.3
    Environment: Windows 8 x64; Office 2013; Adobe Reader 11.0.3
    Steps to reproduce bug:
    1. Open Outlook 2013
    2. Open email message with PDF attachment
    3. Open PDF attachment (with Adobe Reader as default PDF viewer)
    4. Close Adobe Reader
Results: Original email message with PDF attacment now sits behind the main Outlook window
Expected results: Original email message should be on top of main Outlook window as it was when opening the PDF attachment
Note: Adobe Acrobat Profession performs as expected - the original email is on top of the main Outlook window - This only seems to be a problem with Adobe Reader.
Has anyone else experience this problem?  If so, have you found a work-around?
    Thanks,

From: new window opens behind existing window - how to modify?
I had this problem happening in Outlook.
If I tried to open an email, it would open behind the main Outlook window.
The same happened if I opened a link in the email - it would open behind the mail.
The fix that was suggested to me was so simple that I still don't believe it.
Right click on the task bar and unlock the taskbar, then lock it again.
Close down Outlook and re-start it.
Problem solved! Just dont know how  or why.
