Blank CD copy problem iMac dual core

I have a brand new iMac Intel. When I insert a blank cd it doesn't show up on the desk top and I can't copy to it, either, obviously.
Are there particular cd-r brands i should use?

Check out Apple's page for burning, you should find an answer in there.

My MacBook Pro Core Duo from 2006 shuts down randomly requiring frequent reboots to the point I had to abandon doing any project or anything on this MacBook Pro. Same thing occurs with the iMac dual core from 2007. MacBook battery replaced. Is it internal battery for both, new logic board required, bad hard drive, or bad RAM?
    Help.

Run an Apple Hardware Test using the original installation disk that has the AHT instructions on it.
    Try SMC and PRAM resets:

It is possible that you may need a new PRAM battery.

Is there any way I can install Creative sound Blaster Audigy family sound card on iMac. I can get a PCMCIA version and use PCMCIA-USB adaptor to connect it to IMac's USB port. But Creative doesn't have drivers for Mac
What are the available sound cards (which you've used/ or at least know about)?

  • 24" imac dual core and uk broadband providers

I currently have a 17" flat screen imac connected to the internet via the internal modem. I use AOL's dial-up service. I'm intending to purchase a new 24" dual core imac and want to connect to the internet via broadband. As AOL's current broadband sevice doesn't support Macs, can anyone recommend a Mac friendly ISP? I'm a broadband novice, so any other connection advice would be appreciated.

    Hi Keithsahammer
All broadband service's are Mac friendly it's most service provider's dont support Mac's.
Have a look at ADSLguide http://bbs.adslguide.org.uk/threads.php?Cat= scroll down for all provider's
    Mac forum http://bbs.adslguide.org.uk/postlist.php?Cat=&Board=mac ask away.
When you get Broadband make sure you dont get a USB modem as they dont work to well with Mac's as they need driver's.
Get yourself a ethernet router/modem like http://www.dsl-warehouse.co.uk/product.asp?pr=DG834 or if you need wireless http://www.dsl-warehouse.co.uk/product.asp?pr=DG834G

  • [Solved] Problem: Celeron Dual Core identified as Core i7

Hello, I'm new in this forum and in Arch linux, so excuse me if I'm not clear. I want to rebuilt all my system and have it optimized for my computer. I have an Intel Celeron Dual Core.
    cat /proc/cpuinfo
    processor : 0
    vendor_id : GenuineIntel
    cpu family : 6
    model : 37
    model name : Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU P4500 @ 1.87GHz
As you can see in the model line it identifies my dual core as core i7. I checked this page http://en.gentoo-wiki.com/wiki/Safe_Cflags/Intel and it say that Intel Celeron Dual Core is model 15 and/or 23, but my system identifies it as 37.
I tryed these commands and they also identifies my cpu as corei7:
    cc -march=native -E -v - </dev/null 2>&1 | grep cc1
    gcc -Q --help=target -march=native
I am afraid that I'll have problems if I rebuild all my system with CXXFLAGS="-march=native -O2 -pipe". What do you advise me to do?

I believe that he intends to recompile everything (not just his kernel).
    @OP:
Recompiling your kernel is only worth it if you modify the .config. Rebuilding everything else is pretty much useless (unless you want to add buffer overflow protection etc.).

  • Imac dual core what os can it run

I just upgraded to a MacBook Pro and have an old IMAC Intel Dual Core
What OS could be loaded on it that would still get security patches.
It still runs great and I would hate to throw it in the trash

Is it a Core 2 Duo? There is no Intel 2 Duo.
You are extremely limited with the amount of RAM that is presently installed. To properly run Lion, Mt Lion or Mavericks you should have at least 4GBs of RAM. Apple states a minimum of 2GBs but that is the bare minium and any system with only 2GBs will run SLOW.
In any event before you can upgrade to any of the newest OS X versions you'll need to instal Snow Leopard 10.6.3 and update that to 10.6.8.

  • P6N SLI V2 problem with "dual core center"

I have the P6N SLI  V2 with E4400 and 7600gt running XP pro sp 2.
after installing and running MSI's "dual core center" (including .Net framework) I only have the "VGA" option enabled, the "MB" option is disabled as well as the D.O.T option. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling as well as downloading the latest version, but I have the same problem. I get no MB options at all (like no cpu temp, fan speed, core speed etc.). I didn't make any changes to the BIOS yet (other than changing the boot sequence), and ideas?

    A great one.
Don't use MSI's utilities. Anyone here will tell you that.

  • Problem with Dual Core Center and MSI 3870

Hello again, my previous thread is this:
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=113164.0
The VGA works well, the problem is that AFTER i installed it the Dual Core Center stoped to work!!
Installed the dotnetfix again but no avail, still doesn't work.
And i know that happened after installed the VGA, so i believe that must be part of the problem.
    Thanks!

Try the latest version of Dual Core Center.

  • Booting/Crashing Problems with Dual Core 2.3GHz PowerMac

I'm wondering if anybody else is having this problem. ...
I'm having problems booting my new Mac... for the first few weeks everything was fine ... but for the last few of days it often takes 2 or 3 tries to boot to the desktop (it hangs during the boot process) and sometimes when it get there it freezes when I try to launch an app. Rebooting yet again usually solves the problem...
Yesterday after i got it booted it sounded like my disk drive was working for a long time after it was booting the computer was very slow and when i checked CPU usage was very high bit i was not running anything to cause that!
This evening I had to reboot 5 times before I was able to do anything .. and one time the fans kicked into high gear and sounded like a vacuum cleaner!
Once I got it going I opened Mail and checked my new eMails, opened Safari then left the computer for about a half hour and when I got back I had message on my screen saying I had to reboot!
When I got my Mac I immediately ran the full hardware test and it passed... Then I immediately added 2 GB of Crucial RAM and ran the full hardware and memory test yet gain and everything passed...
So it should NOT be a RAM issue.
Has anybody else seen this type of thing and/or has any suggestions on how to fix it or isolate the problem?
    Thanks
    - karen

    Feldspar-
As I'm waiting for for my replacement Dual Core 2.3 G5 to arrive back from Apple, I've been scanning this site to see if there has been any conclusive determination about the underlying problems with the new G5s. So far, I'm sorry to report, I don't see any.
My recomendation to you is to talk directly to apple tech support If you aren't already. Although they may not have a definate solution at this point, you may be able to get a new machine, with more assurrances of it being healthy, than getting your current machine repaired at a service center. You have only 30 days from your purchase date to determine this, and in my case it took a few days working with them to get to the point where all of their tests and trials were done and my machine was classified DOA.
We have paid too much money for a machine that is only as reliable as the amount of time we're willing to spend to get it running after a few (or more)boots. One of the main reasons I've chosen Apple for all these years is that I didn't want to have to learn all of the underlying engineering and programming that make it work. I have always been willing to pay more money for a system that works when you turn it on the first time. I am confident that Apple wants very much to maintain their image of reliablility since much of their competitive edge is the advantage of great looking Apple hardware running their feature packed native software.
I am hoping that we haven't entered a new era with Apple products where my new best friend is going to be the tech guy at the local apple repair center: (not to knock any of them..by the way.)
Although I don't make my living on my cumputer as you do, I depend on my computer throughout my day for information, important financial transactions and comunication. It goes beyond inconvenient to have to send my machine back, for whatever reason. I am writing this on a rock solid G4 933 that has never had a single problem. Have I just been lucky?

  • Problem with dual core processors: 50% ressources are not used.

    Hello all,
I have noticed, that the java app cannot get normally more than 50% of the system ressources. I use different threads in my application, but the app still does't achieve 100% of system power. Max 50-60%.
If I run two processes, I get 100%, but I can't share memory space between this two process. Or I can?
What is the best way to write an application, that can use 100%, in other words, full power of dual core processors.
    Thanks in advance.

Try thread.setPriority() method. I am making guess
    and any comments
from experts on this method will be highly
    acknowledged.Yeah. Don't do that, it's a bad idea.
Back to the original post, there are two reasons this can be happening.
    1) Your code is not efficient multi-threading wise. If you are for example running two thread that are in theory parallel but in actual fact provide linear execution so that one is almost blocked by the other then multiple threads and multiple cores will underutilized. It's hard to speculate further on this without seeing your code.
    2) The OS. First of all there is the issue of how the oS shares up the processor between processes. This varies and may or may not be configurable. The bottom line on this point is that your OS may be capping the utilization of the processor by process. Again there's not enough information give by you to expand on this point. The second OS issue regards how the OS deals with multi-core. Just because you have a multicore processor does not mean that your OS automatically can take advantage of it.

  • Firewire problem (iMac 20" Core 2 Duo)

    Hello.
I've bought iMac 20" (Core 2 Duo) two days ago and just realized that FireWire doesn't work at all. Both of my external hard-drives simply don't mount when connected via FireWire (USB works fine and both USB and FireWire on other Macs too).
I tried to hold CMDOPT+PR while starting and left the computer disconnected from all cables for a couple of minutes. That didn't help.
    Could someone please help me?

Well, for one thing it appears that your firewire port is working fine. It is reporting a connection with your hard drive. The question is, why does the drive not mount on your desktop? Just to satisfy that the drive has not mounted, please double click on your internal drive icon and look at the top left to see if your external drive shows up there (sometimes I find that things that should show up on the desktop seem to go missing, but they will show up in a Finder Window, although I have not known this to happen in the latest upgrade of Tiger).
If it is not in the volumes list, launch Disk Utility (it is found in the Utilities folder that is in your Applications folder). Again, look at the list on the left and see if your drive is listed under your internal drive (it should be). If it is listed but not mounted, select it by clicking on it in the list making sure it is highlighted. Then look for the "Mount" icon at the top and click on it. This should cause your disk to mount.
Whether it mounts or fails to mount at this point I would go back to Disk Utility, select your external disk and ask it repair the disk (you can do this even if the disk is not mounted). If the disk did not mount before, try again now.
    Good Luck!
    Griff

  • My finder quits when accessing my Drobo External Hard Drive iMac Dual Core 24"

My Finder Quits Every time I access my External Drobo 8TB Firewire Drive. I have several other FireWire Drives online with it and have no problem with them. This happened soon after the 10.7.2 update. I have a lot of files on this drive. Could it be the number of files that is causing the problem? Is there a Limit onnumber of folders on the surface of a drive? Please help if you can, I am desperate to preserve my software. But I need to do something soon, Or else I will have to just reformat the drive so I can use it again. I don't really want to do that.
Thanks in advance for any comments or cures.
    Rev

I had the same problem but only after I upgraded to Lion. I could see the files on my external drive on other Macs using older software. It seems that Lion wasn't seeing old files on the external drive. So we accessed the files on a Mac using Snow Leopard, copied all the files into one new folder on the same external hard drive and now they're there on Lion. Problem solved! I hope this helps

  • Starp up problems -Imac Duo Core

    Imac DuoCore 1.83
Upgraded to Leopard several months ago without problems.
Two days ago the following started:
    1. Starts up-no chime
    2. Apple logo is seen (grey)
    3. light blue screen with progress wheel-not the pinwheel)
    4. screen dims a bit, progress wheel dissappears then comes back and it does
    the same thing.
I ran the Disk First Aide frim the CD, performed verify and repair disc.
    Came back with repaired completed.
    Restarted...but the problem persists.
Ran the CD a few times with the same result.
    Any ideas???
    Thanks in Advance
    RL Mora
    PS
There is nothing else attached and or installed hardware wise

    Try running the hardware diagnostics:
How to run hardware diagnostics for an Intel Mac
Boot from your original OS X Installer Disc One that came with your computer. After the chime press and hold down the "D" key until the diagnostic screen appears. Run the extended tests for a minimum of two or three hours. If any error messages appear note them down as you will need to report them to the service tech when you take the computer in for repair.
    Some "common" error indicators:
    SNS - sensor error
    MEM - memory error
HDD - hard disk drive error
    MOT - fan error

  • IMac Dual Core - Airport conflict issue.

    Hi folks,
I am having a problem with my neighbor. Not that he's even aware of it. I have a secured wireless network entirely locked down by MAC addy, and all that good stuff. When he powers up his LinkSys wide-freeking open "access point", my Airport goes bonkers, looses my strongest connection to my Netgear Extended-Range Router. I look at my airport status now greyed out, which now shows no network selected, and none available. Check it again in 10 minutes, shows mine and the Linksys one, OR shows just the weak linksys one and my mac asks me if I'd like to join that "access point".. Is there any way I can lock my airport into my Router Signal ONLY and not let this weak "access point" knock me offline? This is beginning to suck! Thanks in advance for any help/advise - and no, I would rather not go hard-wire.. 8^)

Thank you so much! I am still getting used to being "wireless" and seems my neighbors all use our systems at about the same times... I have made these changes and now, my wife and I shall enjoy our Macs when we want!
I hadn't realized I had set these options to be "automatically join".. Which probably really ***** unless one is "on the road".. I shan't be hoisting my 20" iMac out of the house .. unless we move! Thanks again for you quick and concise help!
    In System Preferences->Network->Airport, select "by
default join preferred networks, and make sure your
neighbor isn't in the list. Under options, select
"ask before joining open network" and uncheck
"automatically add new networks to preferred networks
    list".

  • External drives and the iMAC Dual Core

I have a Maxtor III external drive. It is a Firewire 400/USB model. I installed it on the PC side of the iMAC with no problem. The PC recognized the drive and I backed up that side of the computer. When I tried to backup the MAC side, the drive wasn't recognized (the Maxter III icon is on MAC desktop). I have the Maxtor connected to the computer through the USB port. Has anyone had this experience? The Maxtor is formatted in NTFS--should I reformat in FAT32? If so, I tried that, but the program wouldn't let me reformat--there was only the NTFS format option.

Use the instructions in this document to create NTFS and Mac OS Extended partitions on the disk.
Windows XP will not give you the option to format a disk larger than 32GB as FAT32 with the built-in software, and you may run into problems if you try using a FAT32 disk to back up a Mac unless you use the Disk Utility in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder to create a disk image in HFS+ format.
