Blank design mode
Hello,
I'm using Adobe Flash Builder 4.6 and the design mode went blank for me and i couldn't drag any thing in etc, button, checkbox, list. I'm only able to view what i built using Adobe Flash Builder when i run it but just unable to see any thing that i built in design mode.
Thank you in advance!
I'm having the exact same issue as he described. This doesn't help at all.
I am using a fresh install of Flash Builder 4.6.
I have tried closing and re-opening the project, and cannot get the design view to work.
I have tried creating a completely new project, it comes up bad.
**Edit**
I think the problem has to do with the workspace. Most of my projects are flex 4.5. I started using an old flex 4.5 workspace that I have been using for several months. It worked well for a few hours of development, and then the design view started messing up.
I created a fresh new workspace, and imported the projects into the workspace by using file->import flash builder project->Folder, and manually selected the projects I needed.
This method worked for me and I am good to go.
Another point of note, is that my workspace was in my dropbox folder, which may have had some tampering going on in the background, I doubt it, but that could also have been the issue.
Good luck guys, hope this helps.

Pie Charts causing Design mode to give warning and not preview the app
I am using the final release. I have pie charts in my app. I
also have column charts. Both are fed data the same way. Both work
as expected when i build the app, and there are zero errors in the
app. however, i was experiencing an issue in flexbuilder where in
design mode, a vague warning was issued and the preview could not
be displayed (blank except for very gernal 'outlines' of the layout
and controls)
I narrowed the problem down to the pie charts. Is anybody
experiencing this problem? The application worked as expected, and
previewed as expected in Design mode when previewd/built in Beta
3.Hi masavran,
For this issue, it's related to the render environment (browser/application). On Reporting Services side, we don't have any properties to change the resolution for chart to make it smoothly. We suggest you post this thread on Visual Studio forum
http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/vstudio/en-US/home?forum=visualstudiogeneral&filter=alltypes&sort=lastpostdesc
Or the forum of corresponding browser.

How to edit text in design mode - i.e get an I cursor instead of arrow
DW CS6 This is a very basic unclear on concept question. I normally work in code view and have no problems. Sometimes there is a large block of text within a paragraph which is in a div.
I would like to correct a simple typo or insert some more text directly from the design mode display. However, almost all the time, when I click on the spot I want to modify, the cursor remains an arrow and the entire div gets a yellow border. I still have the select arrow, not the vertical bar I need to edit.
Sometimes I seem to stumble onto the right set of clicks and get the edit bar.
Thanks for any suggestions.Design View can get pretty cranky when your code has errors.
Check the validator at http://validator.w3.org and make sure you're working with clean code before resorting to wiping preferences, config folders or reinstalling.
If your code is clean and it's still not allowing you to click your text in Design View, you may have a z-indexing issue. I notice on pages that use a lot of positioning (APDivs) you can accidentally cover up your text boxes with blank/transparent areas of other elements and cause problems when trying to access that text at a later date.
It's all guesswork though without seeing your actual page.

Design mode doesn't show anything after import
I just installed Flash Builder 4 and selected a small project I was working with in Flex 3. It gave me a warning upgrading the directory which I did and loaded up the base .mxml file. I ran it and it worked ok. I then went into design mode to add more controls and the window is blank. I tried to refresh and still nothing. Any ideas on how to get around this?
Edit: More info
I created a new flex project and I get the design window. Also in the original project I can add items, say a button, to the design window but it dissapears when I release the mouse button. However, it does add it to the code and I also see it when I run the project.
Edit: Even more info
In the new project I created I copied over the source XMLListCollection and added it into the Declarations tags and the visual controls but left the application header intact. I lost the ability to see the design view after I did that. So I commented out all the code I put in place and still got the same issue with dragging a control onto the page and it dissapears. However, it shows in code and also shows when running. Again, everything else is commented out. I then deleted all the code except for the original code put in place by Flash Builder 4 and encounted the same issues.your problem:

Design mode troubles - "Error during component layout."
Hi all.
Since this is getting pretty annoying, I thought someone might know the right solution to this. Whenever I try to open Design mode on my AIR app (Spark + MX), I get:
Design mode: Error during component layout. Choose Design > Refresh to refresh design mode. MyTestApp.mxml /MyTestApp/src Unknown Problem
The MXML code for it is as simple as it can get:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<s:WindowedApplication xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"
xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark"
xmlns:mx="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx"
skinClass="spark.skins.spark.SparkChromeWindowedApplicationSkin"
>
</s:WindowedApplication>
And app descriptor XML only contains transparent set to true and systemChrome to none, even tho it shouldn't make any difference in the Design view anyway. Refresh doesn't solve the error, and sometimes the Design view itself goes into infinite loop of refreshing.
However, if I remove the skinClass, it all works fine and Design view loads (but then I don't get the window chrome on run-time). Same goes if I declare the skin within <fx:Style /> tag, it only breaks when using skinClass attribute in the WindowedApplication declaration. And the same thing happens if I try to edit some of the Spark skins in the Design view.
I've tried creating a new project, switching workspaces, building a blank workspace, switching from Flex SDK 4.1 to 4.0 - all to no avail, the same error always occurs and it never goes away.
Any ideas?Instead of declaring the skin within the WindowedApplication tag, you have to call the Skin class from a Style tag right after you close your window tag:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<s:WindowedApplication xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"
xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark"
Xmlns:mx="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx"
title="YOUR APP">
<fx:Style>
@namespace s "library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark";
s|WindowedApplication
skinClass:ClassReference("spark.skins.spark.SparkChromeWindowedApplicationSkin");
background-color:#999999;
background-alpha:"0.7";
</fx:Style>

I know there is a simple fix to this but I can't figure it out. I have a website that has a few pages created in Dreamweaver CS6. I few weeks back, the site and the webpages looked good. Then a few days ago, I logged into Dreamweaver and began to update a new page for our current winners, and this is when something went wrong.
In design mode, my web page looks like its supposed to, background image and all the image attachments including the Logo are where they are suppose to be. However, in Live mode my page is all white, and all the attached images are not viewable. The attachment images have a ? mark in the center of each box where an image would be placed.
I now have a webpage that up until a week or so ago worked and now, whenever someone views that page, all they see is a white screen.
Can someone please assist me in getting this issue resolved.
Thanks!
JoannCopy & paste this revised code into a new, blank document. Incidentally, you should keep embedded CSS code to a minimum. Also group all page specific styles into one set of <style> tags below the external style sheet. Winner Dates and WinnerDates are not valid. And they lack .class or #ID designation and no spaces allowed in selector names.

DW Design Mode not rendering properly
Can anyone help me with this one ...
Grab the source from this site
http://www.s-3corp.com/ and save
the
page. Open it in DW design mode. try to select the text and
edit it
from within DW design mode?
If I want to edit the content - I must do it in code view. If
I attempt
to select text in design view - then DW selects the entire
containing
div - which is really really annoying.
Any ideas? I assume it is a setting of some kind - except
this is the
only site I have that does this. So then I think it is in the
code
somehow? The styling? AARRRGHH!! :)
Thanks,
Chris

a 3 pound box. If you have content in a region that must

DW's design view were to show you all of the content, it
would break your
layout. This is the solution to that issue....

Can't see preview of .oam in design mode?
I can't see preview of my .oam in design mode. I can see it fine in preview mode, but I just see a blank box in design mode. I play, but I would at least expect a preview of it. In the tutorial I believe I saw that, so maybe there is something I'm not doing or am experiencing a bug?
Here is a screenshot of design mode
A screenshot of preview modeQuit the mail app, launch the app again and then look to see if the messages appear, if not - quit the mail app and restart the iPad.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps.
Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
If that doesn't work, reset your iPad.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. -
Access 2013 operating extremely slow switching from design mode
Access 2013 is working extremely well at runtime, however development is substantially more time consuming due to a prolonged delay (up to several minutes) when moving a query from design view to datasheet view, or a form from design view to form view. I
have experienced this delay with standalone databases as well as databases with linked tables to other Access database tables and with SQL server database tables.
I have never experienced this type of delay with prior versions of Access.
I most recently migrated from Access 2010 to Access 2013.
MY OS is Windows 7 64 bit. Microsoft Office 2013 is the fully installed 32 bit version. I have 16 gigs of RAM on my desktop with a NVIDIA Quadro 2000 display card, all my applications are designed to run locally.Hi,
I would like to know the details:
Did this issue occur with a new/blank database?
Did these database include some macros?
If this issue not occur with a new database, I recommend you try to "Compact
and repair" Access database.
Then, based on your description, the issue also may be caused by the Linked table. Please check the "Always prompt for new location" option.
Next, is the printer a network printer or a network printer that is off line? Access during design mode for the forms will attempt to ask for information about the printer. If that printer is not attached, or on the network, then often a large delay
will occur. Please try to set the default printer to a local PDF printer driver.
Hope it's helpful.

George Zhao

Eclipse +flex 3 plugin crashes when trying to see mxml file in design mode
Hi,
I have strange problem I've been struggling with for 3 days.
I have eclipse-jee-europa-fall2-win32(eclipse europa 3.3.1.1)
+ adobe flex 3 eclipse plugin.
My workspace consists of several projects + one library.
There is not problem when trying to edit any mxml file when
my library is not imported yet. Once I import it to my workspace I
cannot see any mxml file in design mode since it crashes with the
following msg in log:
Did anyone have similar problem and maybe knows the
solutiuon? I've reinstalled/redownoaded eclipse, flex plugin, flash
players and so on. What's more it happens only on my machine - same
project on different one works without crushing.

The problem of such behaviour was that Flex plugin always (at
least on my pc) wants to ustart eclipse using its own JRE from here
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Flex Builder 3 Plug-in\jre (default dir).
This environment is Java 5. When you go to
eclipse>window>preferences>Java>Installed JREs and you
delete default Flex JRE, add new to point to for example C:\Program
Files\Java\jre1.6.0_04 eclipse still uses JRE from C:\Program
Files\Adobe\Flex Builder 3 Plug-in\jre. Do not know why
Flex/eclipse does that but if you simply overwrite C:\Program
Files\Adobe\Flex Builder 3 Plug-in\jre files with newer JRE from
C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_04 all works perfectly.
Hope it helps somebody ;-)

Can't select anything in design mode
I am new on a large Flex project, and when I go into design mode on one of the mxml files, I can't select anything. The other views work fine. Is there a lock, or something? Below is what it looks like (black mark just hides brand info). Note that there is a red line near the bottom. It is actually selectable, but it doesn't do anything. If I go to Source mode and select a chunk of code, then back to design mode, it does show it as selected.
This in Flex Builder 3, thanks.Have you tried using the outline view for selection?

Dreamweaver 8: Java script in Design Mode
Mac OS 10.4.11 Dreamweaver 8
I have a web page with a java script that displays a random picture from a list of images each time you reload the page.
http://www.irises.org
It renders fine when viewed in a browser, but the image does not display when viewed in Dreamweaver Design mode. The random image does not display and lacking the image other things are out of place.
The script that sets up the image array:
<!-- Begin
// Set up the image files to be used.
var theImages = new Array() // do not change this
// To add more image files, continue with the
// pattern below, adding to the array.
theImages[0] = 'images/home-rotate-1.jpg'
theImages[1] = 'images/home-rotate-2.jpg'
theImages[2] = 'images/home-rotate-3.jpg'
theImages[3] = 'images/home-rotate-4.jpg'
theImages[4] = 'images/home-rotate-5.jpg'
theImages[5] = 'images/home-rotate-6.jpg'
theImages[6] = 'images/home-rotate-7.jpg'
theImages[7] = 'images/home-rotate-8.jpg'
theImages[8] = 'images/home-rotate-9.jpg'

theImages[13] = 'images/home-rotate-14.jpg'
theImages[14] = 'images/home-rotate-15.jpg'
theImages[15] = 'images/home-rotate-16.jpg'
theImages[16] = 'images/home-rotate-17.jpg'
// do not edit anything below this line
var j = 0
var p = theImages.length;
var preBuffer = new Array()
for (i = 0; i < p; i++){
preBuffer[i] = new Image()
preBuffer[i].src = theImages[i]
var whichImage = Math.round(Math.random()*(p-1));
function showImage(){
document.write('<img src="'+theImages[whichImage]+'">');
// End -->
The code (further down the page after the all the list elements) that generates the image:
<SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript">
<!-- This script and many more are available free online at -->
<!-- The JavaScript Source!! http://javascript.internet.com -->
<!-- Begin
showImage();
// End -->
</script>
Is there a way to get it to display correctly in the Design mode?
Thanks

</script>Is there a way to get it to display correctly in the Design mode?
I don't think so, at least not with this script. What you need is for an image to be displayed on the page by default, and for the javascript to only change the src attribute's value. Something like this -
At the point where you want the image have -
<img src="the_path_to_some_default_image.jpg" id="rotation" />
and in the javascript, change this -
document.write('<img src="'+theImages[whichImage]+'">');
to this -
document.getElementById('rotation').src='theImages[whichImage]';
See if that works.... -
Flash IDE Components in Flex 3 Design Mode. Can they be visible there?
Hi,
Im exploring Flex to get a grasp on its concepts and am currently looking into building components in the Flash IDE. Though i guess its likely that when you're more familiar with Flex you build your components in Flex, like said Im exploring its concepts and like to know where and how the Flash IDE fits in its workflow.
I made a simple Flex Component in the Flex IDE, which shows up fine when I run the Flex project. But it does not show in Flex Design Mode.
I have exported the component from Flash as an SWC and added the SWC to the Flex library path. The symbol in the Flash IDE extends UIMovieClip. Now I read in 'Using Adobe FlexBuilder 3' (p.67) that the Flex Components panel only lists visible components, according to the documentation 'components that extend UIComponent'.
Note that my question is about being visible on the stage in Design Mode, not in the component panel. As UIMovieClip doesnt inherit from UIComponent (and the UIComponent class doesnt seem to be available in the Flash IDE), is this also the cause that the Flash IDE component is not visible on the Flex stage in Design Mode?
Can someone confirm, or deny this?
Regards,
MarcelHi Latha,
thanks for your feedback. Reading it back though, Im still not sure whether Flex components build in the Flash IDE (using the Flex Component Kit for Flash CS3) can be visible in Flex 3 Design Mode.Maybe you can be a bit more specific and save a lot of Flex beginners a lot of headaches.
I understand that MXML components can be used in Design Mode. I also understand that if your component is AS you have to create a Library and link that to your project to make them visible in Design Mode. I also understand that Flash Builder 4 does "support rendering of UIMovieClip objects which are in library (swc) and added to the project build path"
This actually doesnt answer my question really. Does this mean there is no way to render Flex components build in the Flash IDE (using the Flex Component Kit for Flash CS3) in Flex 3 Design Mode?

GIF won't play in design mode, but previews fine... any ideas?
My animated gif loops in browser preview, but only plays on the stage when i move it around. If I leave it selected without moving, it sits there frozen. Any ideas why my gif won't play properly in design mode? Thanks!
Thank you for confirmation that that is how things should work. I'm new to
the program and following some Lynda tutorials to get up to speed. My most
recent lesson included the gif in exercise files, and everything seems to
function both in Photoshop and the browser. Even in edge design mode, if I
press on the gif and move it around, it plays and loops fine. But as soon
as I stop moving the gif, it returns to first frame and stays stuck there.
Whether selected or not, it just sits there frozen. If I switch
applications and come back to edge, I catch a glimpse of other frames, as
if the gif was playing in the background. But then it stops again, kind of
like a watched pot The behavior seemed glitchy to me, but I thought I
might be missing a setting somewhere. I'll try with other gifs, I guess..
Thanks again!
