Blank disk not actually blank?

Everytime I put in a blank disk, a window pops up telling me I just inserted a blank disk, and gives me instructions on how to burn a disk. That's all fine and good, but when I actually go to click "burn", it says to insert a blank disk, and iTunes ejects the disk.
It's a memorex cd-r, and I've already checked it like, 4 times to make sure it's actually blank.
I just downloaded the newest version of iTunes, fearing that my dinosauric version from 2004 was the culprit, but the same problem keeps happening.

I am having a similar problem. I'm trying to burn an audio playlist onto a Memorex CD-R. When I click "burn disc", iTunes ejects my blank disc from the burner and tells me to insert a blank disc. So I insert it again, and it says "checking media" and then nothing happens. No error message, nothing. I used to be able to burn CDs, but I haven't tried it in a while and I know I've downloaded at least 2 new versions of iTunes since then (I'm currently running the most current one). I've looked on iTunes Help Topics and done everything it suggested, but still no luck. This is really frustrating, because I can't use other CD burning software to burn songs I've bought from iTunes, so there is no way to back up my music. HELP!

  • Encrypted blank disk image, actually encrypted or just password protected ?

I created 200 GB blank disk image on external drive using disk utility with options 128 bit encrytion. I have thought that the data copied to the disk is just password protected not encrypted as such.
I came to conclusion as when you encrypt Mac internal HDD, you can see encryption/decryption progress in Time Machine(system preferences) where as I do not see any encryption/decryption progress for encrypted disk image while copying huge data.
    Anyone knows about it ?

As of OS X 10.7.4, Disk Utility had a bug that prevented it from creating an encrypted disk image with a password of more than 10 characters. I haven't checked recently to see whether that bug has been fixed, but from your report it seems not to have been. There is a workaround, but it's complicated.

  • Blank DVD not recognized, blank CDs ok

Every time I insert a blank DVD it gets spit out after about a minute. Blank CDs work fine and can be mounted in the Finder and burned. I've tried swapping out the Superdrive and get the same results. Anyone else have this problem?

Thanks Ian. I had not considered the media itself being an issue since I've had successful burns with this pack of DVD-Rs before. But it turns out these DVD-Rs (TDK) won't burn on any of my Macs now. I tried them on a Mac Pro, MacBook Pro and iMac. These DVD-Rs all worked fine in past, but they fail now. I tried DVD+R DL discs and they worked fine, as did single layer DVD+R. I'm wondering if there is some issue with DVD-R media now? I think I'll stick with DVD+R media for now.

  • Adobe Premier Elements 7- crash-when burning says" Please insert a blank disk" and already a disk in

I have a Adobe Premier Elements 7. I have had a lot of problems with it of crashing and not burning.. I just had my computer wiped out and installed everything back on like windows xp service pack 3..etc. First I have Windows XP service pack 3 with an Intel Core 2CPU ,6400 @213GHz, 2.13 GHz, 1.98 GB of RAM.  When I went into disk menus premier elements 7 crashes... why is that??? also I tried to burn a DVD and does the progress of burniing and almost done burning WHILE there is a dvd in the drive and says"Please insert a blank disk and click ok to burning" why doe sit do that also? I just had adobe reinstalled and my computer wiped out? Please respond and help.. I am using this program as a business of video editing and nee this solved.

Along with Steve's questions, let's talk about the process of Burning a DVD-Video.
From PrE, which is doing the authoring of the DVD-Video, the first thing that happens is a quick check of the Project and the Menu Set chosen. This happens in an instant. Next, the program must Transcode the Timeline to MPEG-2 that is fully DVD-compliant. This takes some time and is a very intensive process, stressing the computer, and also heating things up greatly. This process will often cause a poorly ventilated, or poorly cooled computer to crash with either a reboot, or a BSOD (Blue Screen of Death). Every component, save for the video card, will be stressed like few other programs can do. PrE uses a 2-pass Transcode, where it goes through the entire Timeline, and maps out sections with high motion, or great detail. It builds a "script" on how to proceed, and then goes back at the Timeline with that script, but also still looking for ways to improve things. This is about 90% of the entire Burn Disc process. Nothing has yet to be burned. Instead, files are created in the Scratch Disk folders. Now, the program takes those newly created MPEG-2 files, the Menus, and all navigation such as Markers, and assembles them into another working folder, in the full DVD structure of VIDEO_TS folder with the IFO, BUP and VOB's. When this is done, the actual physical Burn starts. This is quite a ways into the total process. It is at this point, that the program looks at the burner and the blank media, and not before.
When the program cannot get the necessary info from the burner, or the blank media, it will throw an error message, similar to yours. Also, "SenseCode Errors" usually indicate a problem with the burner, or the media.
Now, let's address this last bit. Is the firmware for your burner up to date? If not, update/flash the firmware. This will be available from your burner mfgr's. Web site. Next, what brand of blank media are you using? Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden are the most recommended brands. Memorex, TDK, newer Ritek and all store brands should be avoided at all costs. Last, is your burner a fully-certified multi-drive? If so, it should be able to handle +R, or -R media. What type are you using, and are you sure that this is blank media, and not a disc that you have already burned, or even attempted to burn?
Hope that we can stop the crashes, and get you to burning.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Is it possible to share a Mounted Blank Disk Image using WebDav?

I am trying to find a good solution to give individuals the ability to change files in there hosted websites on the Mac Mini Server (10.6.4), but also having a limited folder size. I have seen a few post on using Blank Disk Image as the share folder. I have created the folder and I can see it contents using a WebDav client, but no matter what permissions I put, anytime I try to upload or delete a file from the image I get a 403 error, saying "Forbidden". I can get the WebDav to work on normal shared folders, so I am wondering if it is even possible to share a mounted blank image using WebDav?

It seems if I make an MS-DOS(FAT) image, I can actually make changes to this image file using WebDav, but I cant see how to changer the permissions of the folder. All the methods I have tried do not actually seem to change the file permissions, they default to read and write for everyone.
I am trying to figure out if I am trying to get something to work that is not even possible. I need to be able to limit the size of a folder, share it with specific groups/users in the Open Directory. It also has to be viewable on both Windows and Mac Systems. FTP does not seem to work, since it gives access to the root. I want to be able to have a student/student group post to a wiki, have a website for there project, but they should only have access to this image....
Does anyone know if you can share a mounted image through WebDav, or if there is another way I can setup multiple folders and have websites point to this folder and give only selected users access to the folder for uploading and sharing files?
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated

  • Notes are blank in Outlook 2013 after updating the note in IOS 8

    The setup:
On my computer, Windows 7 and Outlook 2013 (Exchange 2013 on the server side).
I create a new note and close it. I can open it, modify it, and everything works as expected.
On my iPhone 6 with IOS 8.0.2, I go into the same note. Everything looks fine. If I modify it and close it, I can open it and everything looks fine.
Now the issue...When I go back to Outlook on my PC and open the same note (subject/title shows in the list view), the note is completely blank.
So, I go back to my phone and everything still looks ok. If I type in the now blank note on the PC, it overwrites the old note contents.
To make all this even stranger, if I log into OWA, the note is there and works fine through this entire process (well, until I overwrite the contents). But, in OWA, it seems to strip out the subject on certain saves.
I tried all this on another laptop I have lying around and get the same results. I tried a new profile. I tried safe mode. All the same.
This leads me to believe that Outlook 2013 has issues displaying notes. If OWA has the correct info, then the server has the correct info.
Does anyone else have this issue or can try to replicate the issue? Any suggestions on fixing it?

If i insert leopard will it wipe all clean. Don't want to but would like to reload drivers or something. Are there any Mac experts out there
    Thanks a bunch

  • Can't delete a logical volume group created from a blank disk image

    Hi all,
I'm a recent convert from Windows, so do bear with me while I grapple with all the new terminology.
Basically, here's the problem: I've been trying to create an encrypted drive and have been at it for a few hours now. I ended up with two 'logical volume groups' created from blank disk images, neither of which are password-protected, and one of which I quite stupidly named "hidden folder" and can't rename now. Anyways, I decided to throw it all away and start right from scratch, but now disk utility won't let me delete these two logical volume groups despite me dismounting both devices, trying to trash the containing folder, etc. Some searching about online has gotten me into the belief that there should be an 'erase' tab in the disk utility window which is not showing up when I click on those drives (however, the erase tab does appear when I click on the indented partitions on each drive). Here's a screenshot to give you guys an idea:
-Here's the disk utility window. The two drives I'm trying to get rid of are "Hidden Folder" and "HD2"
-Here's what I suppose would be called the 'containing folder' in which both drives reside
-And finally my setup, just in case it's relevant
Oh and btw this would be my first post here! How exciting
    Thanks in advance,
    Arthur

That is as it should be. If you select "Move to Trash" does it move the folders to the trash? If so, do the following from my previous post:

    4. Type in your password when asked (note: you will not see anything being entered as you type your password).
    5. Hit Return.
    6. Wait until the process finishes/the Terminal prompt returns.
    7. Quit Terminal.
I wonder if I need to do some changes to the rights about doing this action "move to trash"?
Run Repair Permissions in Disk Utility.
this is making me very uncomfortable, I know myself to solve any problems I tackle/___sbsstatic___/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png Something so simple as this is making me crazy
I don't know if it would make me any crazier than I am, but I sure wouldn't want a stray folder just hanging around on my desktop either.

  • Photo CD, registers as blank disk?

hi, i have a dvd full of photos that i recently took, when i put it into a windows computer, they come up and i can view them,  but when i put the cd into my macbook, it comes up as a blank disk and i can not see my photos, i need the photos on the macbook rather than the windows computer, but it will take a long time to try and transfer them as there is about 500 and the bluetooth transfer does not seem to want to work, which means using emails!
is there any way i can easily and quickly open the photos on my macbook? any help would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks,
    Toria

If you burned the DVD on the Wiindoze PC, you probably didn't finalize or close the disc after burning. That makes it unreadable on a Mac.
Copy the photos from the PC to an external hard drive or USB flash drive, then move the storage device to your Mac and copy them from it to the Mac's hard drive.
