Blank DVD not in Finder 10.8.3

I have a MacPro4,1. Since I upgraded to 10.8.3 I can not see my blank DVD or CD in Finder or on the Desktop. I tried resetting the SMC and the NVRAM and that does not work. The only thing that works is to restore to 10.8.2 from TimeMachine?
Does anyone have a good suggestion?

You also need to enable CD and DVD in the Finder preferences so that they will show mounted.

  • Blank DVD not recognized, blank CDs ok

Every time I insert a blank DVD it gets spit out after about a minute. Blank CDs work fine and can be mounted in the Finder and burned. I've tried swapping out the Superdrive and get the same results. Anyone else have this problem?

Thanks Ian. I had not considered the media itself being an issue since I've had successful burns with this pack of DVD-Rs before. But it turns out these DVD-Rs (TDK) won't burn on any of my Macs now. I tried them on a Mac Pro, MacBook Pro and iMac. These DVD-Rs all worked fine in past, but they fail now. I tried DVD+R DL discs and they worked fine, as did single layer DVD+R. I'm wondering if there is some issue with DVD-R media now? I think I'll stick with DVD+R media for now.

  • Blank DVD not recognized

I built my project in Encore and checked the project for any errors and then clicked on Build to burn the project to a blank DVD, but I get an error message stating, Please insert DVD media, close the tray, and click OK. My DVD burner works with other applications so I know that the driver works. Does anyone have any idea what is going on?

    John,
I have many problems with Adobe CS5. I have problems with CS4 and I have
    nowhere left to turn.
I have problems with Fireworks in both versions.  I can't associate image
file types with Fireworks CS4 or CS5  Adobe Support logged into two of my
computers and they were not able to solve the problem on either of my two 64
bit computers. They created new admin accounts on both machines. No change.
I went back to using Fireworks 8, which fits my work model better anyway
because I had to repeatedly "float windows" to build animated GIF files. I
totally gave up on that one.
I have problems importing Premiere Pro 1.5 project files in to Premiere
CS4 - Most of the AVI source files "cannot be imported" when loading a
prproj file. Error message:- "Cannot link media: selected file cannot be
linked because its type (audio) does not match the original file's type
(audio and video)".  If I import the files they appear as red boxes with
    Chinese writing.
I cannot build a DVD with Encore CS5. 1: click "Build - 2: Pop up screen
shows DVD, says "Drag file" Then the drive door opens and the pop up screen
goes away. 3: "Please insert DVD" - Close. Goes back to 2 with the pop up
    screen (endless loop).
Apparently all Adobe phone and chat support is in India. They keep asking
the same questions over and over and over: "What is the error message" -- I
tell them the error, then they ask "what is the error message"... etc. They
asked me to enter a URL for access - I get a gray screen. They said use a
different browser. I loaded the same URL in three other browsers, same
result. Then there was a "server error". I asked that they email me the URL
in case I wasn't understanding it.. I was told they do not have access to
email until after they have failed to solve a problem. Now that's logical!
Well, After Effects works, at least.  Dreamweaver "works" but they've just
managed to make it more difficult to use. They took things out that should
have been left alone. It now takes several steps to do what took one step in
CS3. The audio editing program distorts with my $80 USB microphone.
What am I to do at this point? I spent a lot of money and all I got was a
bunch of problems that nobody in India seems to have a clue how to fix. I am
informed that there is no one connected with Adobe support who speaks
English well enough to understand or be understood.
Sales (chat and phone) got my order wrong four times in a row, and when they
finally got it right they shipped it the wrong day.
AMD 64 - Windows XP Pro (4GB), Windows 7/32 Pro (4GB), Windows Vista Home
    Premium (4GB).
I'm building a new machine (Windows 7/64 Pro, 16GB RAM, AMD Phenom II x6).
Maybe something will work on it.
Needless to say, I am very disappointed with my large "investment" in Adobe.

  • Blank DVDs not detected

When I insert a blank DVD, it does not appear on the desktop. Looking at Disk Utility, it appears that the drive knows there is a DVD-R inside it, but under the 'Write ability' field in Disk Utility, it claims that the disk is 'Read Only (DVD-R)'.
Thinking that I may have had a bad batch of DVDs I have tried several different brands from my friends, but all suffer from the same problem.
Is this a problem I can fix myself, or is my drive broken? Other potentially useful bits of information: I am using an American MacBook, with disks that have been bought in Japan. My drive will read normal CDs and DVDs just fine.
    Thanks in advance
MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   Core Duo

That was it. Not sure why, but if it's set to 'ignore' when a blank DVD is inserted, it doesn't bother to mount it or create a burn folder for it, it seems. Not entirely sure why. Regardless, thanks for your help!

  • Why doesn't a blank DVD show in finder?

    Hello,
I insert a blank dvd with a view to burn one photo on it and it doesn't show in Finder! There is absolutely nothing wrong with the dvd.
Also, I have one photo saved on the desktop and I just want to burn that one only. Can I do that? If so, how?

OK, when it asked what to do with the blank dvd, I did no click 'open finder'. Guess I should've done that.
As for the photo, simply drag and drop it into the dvd drive. Duh. Ignore this topic. Thanks, bye!

  • Blank DVDs not reading?

    Hi Folks,
Thanks for your time reviewing my problem.
I use an iMac with Intel processor and when I insert a blank DVD, it takes about 10 seconds before the disc is ejected.
    No messages.
I am still able to open DVD discs that have photos or music, it just spits out the blank ones.
    Any thoughts?
Thanks again for your time and input.
    Sincerely,
    Photo Craig

    Hi,
It does sound like the Optical drive Lens is on its way out, I would suggest going with a external DVD burner, as it will be much faster and a whole lot cheaper then getting the internal replaced.

  • Blank DVDs not recognized

I am having issues after attempting to build a regular dvd. It keeps saying Please insert DVD media, close the tray, and click OK. I know this has been discussed in previous threads, but I have had no luck trying those solutions. The other DVD applications I have on my computer are Cyberlink DVD Pro, and DVD Architect Studio 5.0. Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

  • Burn imovie to dvd-"not recognized"

I spent 5 days and about 26 hours making this iMovie. I bought the **** DVD's to burn it on to 42 of them for work. I finalized the project numerous times, did the "Media Browser" thing and chose the file sizes. I insert the DVD to burn, and it claims that it is "not recognized" in order to burn it. I am beyond frustrated and NO, Apple, I will not give you any more of my money. Helllllllpppp!!!

When you insert the Blank DVD in the finder with nothing else open.
Does the finder recognise the Mounted Blank DVD?
IF it does try burning a small file onto the blank DVD through the Finder.
If it fails what is the error that the Finder tells you?
    If this works then proceed
Use a Free App like Burn http://burn-osx.sourceforge.net/Pages/English/home.html
Drag and drop your movie files then click Burn. Job Done. 
    Alternative
you should be able to burn using iDVD.

  • Mac Pro doesn't read DVDs, show them as blank DVDs.

I am running an older Mac Pro with OSX 10.6.8 software. I have been trying to play DVDs through my internal disk drives but everytime I insert them my mac shows them as blank dvds in the finder, even though they play on other machines. I do have an external disk drive set up as well that does read the disks just fine.
I have read through many different forms from different sites and have found similar issues but no solutions. I have tried updating, blowing out the drive with a can of compressed air, yet nothing makes a difference. At first I had thought that maybe the drive had gone bad, however this is happening to both internal drives at the same time and therefore makes me belive that it is a software issue.
As I said, my mac recognizes both drives (SONY DVD RW DW-D150A) but shows the disk as a blank disk with no data on it. I use my disk drives daily and have not done anything new that would have changed the software process.
Please comment if you have any solution. I have yet to find anything that remotely answers my questions. Thank you.

    Hello
Maybe the upper and lower filters must be removed in Windows registry... Follow the instructions in this Microsoft article:

And try to clean the ODD laser because it could be dirty.

  • "You inserted a blank DVD"

Whenever I insert a DVD into my iMac (OS X 10.9.1), the iMac is unable to read the DVD.
Instead I get a message saying:
    "You inserted a blank DVD"
Note that the DVD is NOT blank !
It has data on it, and I can read it without problems on my Macbook or PC.
Could this be a hardware problem? (drive is: HL-DT-ST DVDRW  GA32N:, firmware: KE06)
I looked around in forums and saw that other people already faced this exact problem, but I never found a solution.
I hope someone can help !
    Thanks very much.
    Tal

    Tal,
First try some basic resets, start with doing both SMC and PRAM resets, do each 2-3 times back to back. Then retest, if the issue is still there then your DVD drive may need cleaning. Go to your local office supply store and ask for a CD/DVD cleaning kit and use it.

  • Blank DVD and CD not showing up in Finder or anywhere

My blank dvd and cd are not showing up in Finder. I checked my preference and deleted from my library com.apple.finder.plist. All to no avail. I have the new upgraded Lion.

    AppleHoop wrote:
When I open the Disk Utility I see SuperDrive but I can't burn nor eject the disk. The only way I can eject the DVD is to restart my computer.
Do other blank discs appear normally?
Do other commercially manufactured discs (software, movies) show up normally?
Those questions are to help narrow down exactly what the problem is.
    AppleHoop wrote:
I have no idea what it means to "zap the PRAM" and Reset the SMC"
Honestly i don't think those are going to make much difference for this problem. Go ahead and do them, but they're usually last resort desparation solutions, not first resort.

  • Blank CD/DVDs not showing up in finder

    Hi,
When I insert a brand new blank cd or dvd, it does not show up in finder or the desktop, which is how i used to make data dvds and such. however it does write in itunes or idvd, it will write to it and recognize it. any ideas?

Open up preferences and then go to CDs & DVDs. For the options on "When you insert a blank CD/DVD" choose "Open Finder." This should work for you.

  • DVD drive will not recognize blank DVDs after upgrade to Lion.

It finds burned DVD/CDs but not blank ones. Disk utility partially sees blank dvd, gives option to eject it, but will not allow eject it. Finder does not see it at all. have to restart to have it eject. Tried different DVD's (Manufactures and -R / +R, etc). Have followed recommendations on resets and have even reloaded the OS.  This problem started immediately after upgrade from snow lepoard to lion.

Repairing permissions yes. But in my head, if everything is working fine for it, just won't read Blank media, could it be a software thing?
I'll give it a shot in a few hours

  • DVD not showing up in Finder

When I pop in a blank DVD, it doesn't show up in my finder even though I have CDs, DVDs, and Ipods enabled in the finder preference under sidebar.

In System Preferences CD's and DVD's, where it says "When you insert a blank DVD" just check that there is not selected 'ignore', and instead choose Open Finder.

  • Why the Blank DVD can not be found in Super Drive?

With my new Mac Book Pro which I created severeal DVDs in past month, all of a sudden I have problem. In Both DVD Studio Pro and iDVD I can not burn the final video which is 35 minutes. Each time I attempt to burn my project, the disk is ejected with a message asking me to insert an acceptable disk because it couldn't find the blank DVD. I have used different brands and still no luck. I tested my hard drive with *TechTool Deluxe* and also the Mac Book Pro's 1st dick of installation and in both cases everything was fine and passes the test. I've updated all of my soft ware as well.
Would you please kindly share your knowlege to solve this problem.

Thank you for your time. I have tried Verbatim(Digital Movie DVD-R) which I used before with my Mac Book Pro and also apple DVD-R. Yes I can see my own burned DVDs and also all commercial one in my drive.
    Any suggestions
