Blank DVD+R won't mount, always ejects

After installing Leopard, any blank DVD+R that I insert won't mount, it makes noises and always ejects -
yet
1. I can read the Mac OSX Leopard DVD and have installed it.
2. Blank CDs mount and can be burned. And they play as well.
This appears to be happening only after installing Leopard. Help, anyone!!

The specs for this drive are hard to find, but this came up with some Google searching:
MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-835E:
Firmware Revision: GAN7
Interconnect: ATAPI
Burn Support: Yes (Apple Shipped/Supported)
Cache: 2048 KB
Reads DVD: Yes
CD-Write: -R, -RW
DVD-Write: -R, -RW, +R, +RW
Burn Underrun Protection CD: Yes
Burn Underrun Protection DVD: Yes
Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, DVD-DAO
Media: No
This would indicate that this drive does not support double-layer (DL) DVDs. You can confirm this by checking the specs for yours in System Profiler.

  • DVD won't mount or eject, won't shut down.

My Mac Pro won't mount or eject an older optical disc in my OWC BD drive installed in the lower optical drive position. I've tried all suggestions. It also won't complete shutdown. It gets to the grey screen and gets stuck. Have verified and repaired my System drive, have tried using the terminal as suggested here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/16582744?searchText=disc%20won't%20eject#1 6582744, which opens the top drive. Is there a command for opening the secondary tray? Have also reset my SMC. I've read other threads about people with discs not mounting or  ejecting and preventing shutdown, but all seem to be in the primary optical drive. Any help apppreciated.

I finally opened the tower, accessed the drive and ejected the disc with a paper clip. Now everything works again.

  • CD/DVD's won't mount to desktop

CD/DVD's won't mount to desktop. All of the boxes under PREFERENCES->GENERAL are checked. When I hold the "C" key during start up with the OS/X install disc 1, it still boots from the hard drive.
I can open the disc tray with the keyboard eject button; the eject logo appears on screen.
    Any help?

    Hello Justin,
First, are you using an external CD/DVD drive?
Second, if not, try starting up holding down the Option key until you see the Startup Manager (which will show all bootable systems available). Either click on or use the Tab key to get to the startup disk you want.

  • DVDs won't mount - discs ejecting

(Inadvertently posted to aluminum forum -- this belongs here.)
Searched and did not find exactly this problem in prior posts.
CDs still mount and play fine, but now all DVDs won't mount and are automatically ejected. I've looked previously at region settings, decided not to change, now can't even find region settings to verify I'm still set to 1. I don't really think it's a region problem though, as I'm pretty sure I didn't even try to change regions.
    Any suggestions? Thanks.

Not quite sure what's wrong here, but let's see what System Profiler (Applications>Utilities) has to say about your drive.
Open up System Profiler, then click "Disc burning" in the left-hand column. Next to "Reads DVD" what does it say?

  • CD/DVD Drive won't mount disks

My Mac Mini (early 2009) won't seem to mount any disks. I have tried recordable DVDs I recorded a while ago and shop bought DVDs also pre recorded CDs. Just whirrs a bit and then ejects.
It will mount a blank DVD, but that is all.
I tried recording something to the disk and got an error 0x80020022. I have seen others with this error code but it usually seems to affect recording not actually mounting a disk. I get not error message at all when attempting to mount a disk.
    Any ideas?

Sounds like the ODD is shot. If it is under warranty call Apple Care. (I hear that by law you actually get two years in the EU.) If not, you may need to get an external drive or pay for someone to install a new internal drive.

  • Blank cd's won't mount on my hd

I use my superdrive to burn DVD's all the time without problem. I have loaded countless music cd's onto my system in iTunes as well.
Now I'm trying to burn a cd, and the blank cd won't mount on my desktop. It is further not recognized by iTunes. By the way, using Sony cd-r's made specifically for audio. When I restart my system, it gives me a message something to the effect of the computer can't read the disk I've inserted.
What do I do to get my system to recognize and mount the blank cd?

Unbelievably simple! Thanks! It was set to appear in iTunes, not the finder. So I changed to the finder and now it is posting on the desktop.
Still confused as to why it didn't appear in iTunes since it was set to appear in iTunes, though. Any thoughts?

  • DVD's won't mount ( I know lots of people have this problem)

I know lots of people have been having the same problem, Dvd's burn and mount okay until you take them out and then they won't re-mount.
My G5 has been doing this for ages, but today the superdrive died altougher.
So my question is - Does any know if replacing the pioneer 106d will also cure the Dvd problem?

I'm sorry but I can't answer this question.. All I can say is that a lot of people on this forum are experiencing the same problem. Sadly, I'm out of support and can't get apple to even discuss this with me. My DVD read blanks no problem until I installed the latest iTunes and added an iPhone. Now I'm having the exact same problem as you. This is driving me mad as I know it's not hardware and must be something to do with one of apple's flakey updates.. Do you have support on your G5?

  • External HD Won't Mount - Force Ejected it and now won't mount

    Hi All,
I seem to remember this happening to me before. Isn't there somewhere in the filesystem that OSX writes a file if a drive was mounted? And if you ejected a USB disk incorrectly, it cannot ever mount again?
I can't seem to find that fix anywhere.
ANYWAY, my problem is this. My TimeMachine backup disk (Western Digital (WD) 500 GB MyBook) won't mount (attached via USB). It doesn't show up in the Finder. It DOES show up in Disk Utility but when I click Repair Disk it promptly says:
"Error: Disk Utility can’t repair this disk. Back up as many of your files as possible, reformat the disk, and restore your backed-up files."
I really don't think the disk is fried. I think there is just something keeping it from being mounted. I could be wrong.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance. Struggling with this waaay too late on a Sunday night.
    I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6 (10A421a)

  • DVD-R won't mount with Mountain Lion

Just upgraded to Mountain Lion on 2009 MacBook Pro and now cant mount a blank DVD-R to archive. Any ideas?

Hi, Im having exactly the same problem with my 2009 iMac and I cant find an actual solution- it's NOT a hardware problem, as it reads both music CDs and movie DVDs, the problem is with blank discs.
My theory is that Apple have disabled the facility, as all the new Macs that ship with mountain Lion don't have an optical drive installed (only the Mac Pro's and they ship with Lion and Mountain Lion is offered as a download) and they are trying to drive consumers onto their Cloud Storage facility.
Maybe this is why it's so difficult to find a solution and why Apple have kept so very quiet with their responses on these forums...
Come on Apple, if you read this please act upon it- do I now have to downgrade back to Lion just to use my Superdrive as it's meant for?!

  • Some DVD's Won't Mount (Int or Ext Drive) Unless Re-Start

Intel 20" Core Duo iMac - OS X 10.4.7 (occurred with 10.4.6 as well)
A number of times now, I've seen this scenario:
Insert a DVD into either the internal SuperDrive, or my external Mad Dog firewire drive. Disc spins up, . . that's it. Never mounts.
At this point, no DVD is recognized in either drive (that is to say, it won't mount).
Re-start the Mac, put a known good DVD in either drive, and it works fine/mounts.
It seems as though a scratched or otherwise un-readable DVD is what kicks off this process, but what I find odd is that regardless of which drive I first encounter the problem with, there is no "seeing" a DVD in either drive unless I re-start.
Because I see the same thing with both drives, I'm feeling pretty certain it's not hardware, and I have repaired permissions. Any suggestions?
    Thanks!
    Mark

I was having a problem with playing homebrew DVDs--they would load/mount OK, DVD player would start, but they wouldn't play without painful pauses and skips. I saw a piece advice somewhere about going to System Preferences, bring up the CDs & DVDs pref pane, and in the "When you insert a video DVD" preference click on the drop down menu and select "Ignore" (of all things--sounded like a weird choice to me!). After changing this setting to the recommendation my DVDs would play just fine, I just had to launch DVD Player myself rather than it automatically opening. Don't know if this would help your problem, but it is easy to do, so you might give it a try.

  • Cd's/Dvd's won't mount and computer ejects them

All of a sudden I can not read cd/dvd on my computer. They will not mount and just get ejected after attempting to mount. I have not downloaded or upgraded anything. It all happened when I had a cd with pictures on them and I tried opening them but they would seem corrupt. Not sure if this has anything to do with it but after trying to open several pictures my computer crashed. Once restarted the computer recgonized the cd I had with the pictures as a blank cd. It was clearly not blank, anyway after that any cd or dvd would not mount. I could not even start up with a cd to use a utility program to check my superdrive out. The firmware is up to date. Is there anything else I can do before I buy a new one. Any if I do have to buy one. What kind of superdrive do I get. Thanks for you help

  • Blank CD/DVD's won't mount

Any ideas? Since upgrading to Tiger I can't burn a data CD or data DVD from my desktop. The blank media won't even mount like in the old days. I understand the 'burn folder' function, but the media gets rejected as unusable. DVDStudioPro and iTunes burns discs fine, so I think it's an issue with FINDER.
I was able to burn a disc image using Disc Utility but those discs aren't readable on the PC's I've tried them on (and they take forever to read on my G4).
    Thanks
    1.25 Dual G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   2 GB RAM

I realize this is a year late but, I've recently been battling this issue for a while and I just fixed this today using this thread as a hint.
The recommendation was to delete the ~\Library\Preferences\com.apple.finder.plist file altogether. I really didn't feel like doing that so instead:
    1) I opened the file in the "Property List Editor" application and deleted the two lines that define permissions for CD Burning and DVD Burning. Then...
    2) Relaunched the Finder and everything was back to normal.
Hope this helps if you haven't fixed it already.

  • Dvd drive won't mount disks

My dvd/cd super drive will not mount or burn dvd disks. Cds are able to mount and burn. This is a new issue that started after my Apple Care expired six months ago... Any suggestions? Thanks.
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   1.8 Ghz PowerPC G5 single processor

    Hi tyoung-
Electronically speaking CD burning and DVD burning are different.
Yes, you can replace the drive with a Pioneer.
I have always considered the Mac's optical drive to be what I use for loading software and burning the occasional disk. I run a video business and cannot afford the downtime either.
Get yourself an external DVD burner or two (they are cheap enough) if you burn a lot of disks. If it fails you will only be down until you go out and buy another.

  • DVD,s won't mount after updates

    I recently bought a G5 1.6gig, 1.25 gig ram.
I got it a couple of days ago. DVD's were fine on it with Tiger, no updates installed. I then installed leopard on a new had drive I installed, seagate 320gig and did all the updates for tiger and leopard. I can play/import cd's to may machine but now it will not mount DVD's. It will read the leopard install DVD and commercial dvd's but will not read any I have burnt myself on different machines......any ideas?

  • Music CD won't mount or eject

I am trying to download songs into my iTunes from my cd collection and came across one cd that won't seem to mount. My PowerBook is not recognizing there being a disc inserted and now I can't get it to eject. Tried suggestions from Mac Help (restart with mouse/eject held, insert paperclip, Open Firmware). Looking for suggestions. Thanks.

If you have not already, reset PRAM (you said you did already but check the procedure to make sure it was done properly)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
and if that does not help, reset SMC
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1543
which is basically disconnecting ALL cables and power, then reconnecting using a precise procedure. After you reconnect the power and start it up, connect just your keyboard and mouse (unless they are wireless and therefore already connected). Try ejecting the disc from the keyboard before you connect any other peripheral (USB/FIreWire) devices.
If that does not work, you should have your iMac checked by a technician at an Apple Store or Apple-certified repair shop. The drive may be faulty.
