Blank DVD-RW's just eject after being inserted

Hi,
I have a SuperDrive in my eMac, and when I insert a DVD-RW into the drive, it takes it, mounts it for a second, and spits it out. I am updating the firmware right now.
If thats works I'll reply. If it does not, I will not reply.
Thanks.

  • The blank dvd r keeps getting ejected ...

I am trying to burn an imovie to a blank dvd+r.    Wnen I click on "burn dvd." ..the computer ejects the disk.  This a new set of dvd+r  I bought at Staples ,  specs are 16x. Any thoughts??? Do I need special formated disks to burn an imovie??

At First, I try to do your first option,
Verbatim brand DVD-R is not working.
    Next , you said,
"Verbatim should have worked. Typically Apple branded discs are just repackaged Verbatims. One thing to note about that machine, a firmware update supported higher speed burn support DVDs:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86130"
-------- Pop up window said, "This update is not compatible with this model Macintosh"
so, Let ms check this DVD Devices & volumes , it is ,
    CD-RW/DVD-R
    Disc Burning Fully supported.

    ATA Device Type atapi
    Device Serial EA998D08
    Device Revision A43h
    Product Identification DVD RW DW-U10A
    Vendor Identification SONY
The result is ... Mine is Sony brand.
If that doesn't work, and your clock battery has been replaced in the last four years, zap your PRAM:
Finally, if none of the above works, you may want to get an external Firewire burner from http://www.macsales.com/
They have the full range of support from iDVD to other Apple applications, as well as booting.
your last option is the last of my choices.
    Is that all?
I have used power mac 6100-66 since 1994 that is still working in my studio, I love MAC, In My Studio, I have two Macs, One is Power Mac 6100-66av and iMAC G4 17" flat Dome.
I have No Idea why my DVD -R Burning Broblem with others brnad blank DVD-R except Apple brand. and you company said, "Typically Apple branded discs are just repackaged Verbatims."
But My DVD Burning is still problem with that Verbatim brands DVD-R.
Really,if you take care of your future customer, Your company needs responsibility to even just, one customer's sound.
Now, I have no solution except to buy external Firewire burner with my money.
Now to Future, who can buy the MAC without the clear solution service in Apple Co.?

  • Dvd won't play - eject after some sec.

    Hello Folks
i have a iMac (mid 2011) suddenly my dvd drive can’t working when I insert dvd (blank/movie/any) dvd drive don’t’ read dvd & after 5-10 sec. dvd ejected without any error.
    Please help me.
    Thanks in advance.

Superdrives are really finicky about dust, dirt and smudges. They also have been known to not work with some DVD manufacturers because of slight differences in thickness of the DVD itself. All that said sometimes the SMC reset restores functionality to the drive.
    SMC RESET
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and ALL peripherals.
    Wait 15 seconds.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Wait another 5 seconds and press the power button to turn on the computer.
The 5 second timing is important to a successful reset.

  • Pioneer DVD-ROM will not eject after some time of system usage

I'm having an odd issue where after my Mac Pro is used for a certain amount of time (it seems variable), the optical drive will no longer seemingly be recognized. It shows up in the hardware profile for the system, however when I hit the eject key, Toast starts up instead of my drive responding. Further, when Toast or any other CD / DVD writing utility is started after this occurs, the drive is not recognized in these applications.
Any idea as to what could potentially be going on here?
The thing that throws me the real curve ball is that it DOES work for a little while when the system is restarted and then just "disappears" as noted.

If it's not the original Apple DVD drive, make sure "Put hard disks to sleep when possible" is not enabled in "Energy Saver" system preference, then reboot the system.

  • My disc player not working.  Music or dvd's it just ejects them.

Can I run a diagnostic? Or is there some function within my 15" laptop that I can go to that can confirm what is wrong?  I generally don't use it at all so I don't know how long it has been since it worked.

  • Disc drive automatically rejects discs after being inserted.

The past few days, whenever I insert a disc for a game into my MacBook Pro 13" (2009 model, purchased in 2010) will reject the disc and spit it back out. To describe the noise it makes, it is the usual start up noise the drive makes, and then it suddenly drops off, then starts back up again, as if the computer is trying again to read it, but cannot. Consistently after 3 'tries' it will reject the disc. It has done this maybe every other time I insert a disc for the past week, but often I will try to roll the dice later in the day and it may or may not work.. Today it has happened every single time I attempt it. Not sure what I should do. Is this something I can adjust from home in preferences or something? I don't want to fiddle with the components or dismantle it myself in any way, so if it needs servicing I will take it in, just need to know where to start from. Anyone else experienced something like this before?

It sounds like the lens on your optical drive is dirty. Use a cleaning DVD or wrap a microfiber cloth around a credit card and carefully slide it in and out a few times.

  • Blank DVD-R being ejected

When I insert a blank DVD-R it is ejected. No icon appears on my desktop
System Pref is set to iPhoto, how do I change this to "Open Finder"?

The drive accepts discs but they do not mount or are automatically ejected
Check the disc's surface for scratches and dirt, since these things can prevent the disc from appearing on the desktop.
Reset the Power Manager (PMU) or System Management Controller (SMC).
Ensure your drive can read the specific type of disc being used. For example a "combo drive" can read a DVD-R and burn a CD-R however it cannot burn a DVD-R. The utility System Profiler may provide additional information regarding what media your computer supports.
If the discs continue to not be recognized, please contact Apple, contact an Apple Authorized Service Provider, or make an appointment with an Apple Retail Store for additional troubleshooting, evaluation, or service.

  • DVD drive will not recognize blank DVDs after upgrade to Lion.

It finds burned DVD/CDs but not blank ones. Disk utility partially sees blank dvd, gives option to eject it, but will not allow eject it. Finder does not see it at all. have to restart to have it eject. Tried different DVD's (Manufactures and -R / +R, etc). Have followed recommendations on resets and have even reloaded the OS.  This problem started immediately after upgrade from snow lepoard to lion.

Repairing permissions yes. But in my head, if everything is working fine for it, just won't read Blank media, could it be a software thing?

  • Drive keeps ejecting Blank DVDs but will read DVD with media in it

I am at loss what to do. Whenever I put in DVD with media in it (including +R), it plays and reads it all just fine. CD data reads no problem too. However, when I put in a Blank DVD, it chugs and ejects it out completely.
Preferences are fine. It says 'Ask What to Do' is set when 'You insert a Blank DVD'
Here was how it started. Previously, I could put in a blank DVD and it would be just fine but I'm having problems burning after the 10.5.6 update. Read in a post somewhere to try resetting your PRAM which I did and now it won't accept the blank DVDs. Everything else is fine.
Would really appreciate ANY help I can get!

  • Blank DVD not recognized, blank CDs ok

Every time I insert a blank DVD it gets spit out after about a minute. Blank CDs work fine and can be mounted in the Finder and burned. I've tried swapping out the Superdrive and get the same results. Anyone else have this problem?

Thanks Ian. I had not considered the media itself being an issue since I've had successful burns with this pack of DVD-Rs before. But it turns out these DVD-Rs (TDK) won't burn on any of my Macs now. I tried them on a Mac Pro, MacBook Pro and iMac. These DVD-Rs all worked fine in past, but they fail now. I tried DVD+R DL discs and they worked fine, as did single layer DVD+R. I'm wondering if there is some issue with DVD-R media now? I think I'll stick with DVD+R media for now.

  • Topic: "Please insert a blank DVD-R disk".  DVD burning prob

    Hey everyone out there,
My imac is a week old now and i'm starting to experience dvd burning problems. Here is the low down. Used 1-step dvd feature in idvd5 to burn a mini-dv tape from my sony dcr-hc42. It burned succesfully on the 1st 2 tries. On the 3rd try it says to "insert blank dvd-r disk" and spits out the blank dvd. I've read different posts that say to try using dvd -r disks - only suggestion I could find. I have been using dvd -r disks - in fact I've tried 3 different kinds (sony, TDK, memorex) all with the same result. I also got a suggestion to dl toast and test the burner with toast - Same result. It won't even read the blank dvd-r in the drive. Is my burner having problems or is this a problem with ilife 5. It's still new and under warranty so I'll give apple a call and post their directions here. Any other suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!
Where would I be without this forums!!! (on my windows computer, bleh!) =)
    arn

    Hey Jordan,
I dl'd patchburn and it does the same thing as it did with idvd and toast. It says "please insert a blank dvd-r disk" then ejects the disk. D'oh!!! I just finished talking with apple tech support and here's the low down:
we tried reading the blank disk with finder. Wouldn't even show up on desktop. Then we popped in a movie dvd - read just fine. We went in to system preferences (cds/dvds) - everything a ok. Finally, popped in the mac os disk and did a new archive install - same result =( The tech told me to take it into an apple store which I will be doing soon. Their explanation was that since it was reading the data dvds fine, the problem was the head that detects blank dvds was malfunctioning ( i guess it has 2 heads - 1 to read the data and 1 to detect blank disks). Either way it's covered under warranty ( 1 week old) so hopefully they'll take care of it. I'll post more news once I get it back - crossing my fingers X .....
By the way, thanks for the replies. This forum system is awesome.
    arn =)

  • Blank DVD-R???

Hi all...having an issue with blank dvd's...whenever I insert a blank DVD, my superdrive just seems to try to mount it, but never does, then just ejects. But only blank dvd's??? If i insert a blank CD, mounts up immediately...put in a dvd movie...starts right up??? Any ideas??? Bad dvd's can cause this??? The other odd thing is I'm about 1/2 through a 50/pk of blank DVD-R's, it just started happening out of the blue...I literally had just taken one out that I had just burned, put another blank in, and this started happening??? Thx for any info...

  • Permission err mounting blank DVD in finder, works fine in other apps

Hi I have an intel Mac Mini running OSX 10.4.9 fully patched.
I can not mount a blank DVD disk in the finder, if I insert one I get the following error message: "The operation could not be completed because you do not have enough access privileges".
Blank DVDs work fine with iDVD. Non blank DVDs also work just fine for playing movies or reading data.
I have tried repairing permissions with both Disk Utility and Onyx, neither makes any difference.
I have logged in as System Administrator (root) and the blank DVD works exactly as it is supposed to and I can create data disks.
So it seems like I really do have a permission problem, but not one that is fixed by Disk Utility.
    Anyone have any ideas?
Mac Mini (intel)   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

This error is listed several times in discussions archived issues. The solution is always the same: trash com.apple.finder.plist from your home /Library /Preferences. I hope it works for you but as for me, that is impossible. The com.apple.finder.plist DOES NOT EXIST!!! By the way, I noticed this error and also the error "No mountable file system" when trying to open any disk image immediately after Software Updates took me to 10.4.9 and it occurs in other admin users also, so it is not a user issue for me.

  • Blank DVD will not be recognized

    Huhu,
i have troubles with burning DVD's (i guess also with CD's, but haven't tried yet, no blank CD @ /home )
I'm using graveman (also tried brasero), it found my CD/DVD drive and also makes copies from CD's/DVD's
But when i start burning an .iso file, it appears it  didnt recognized the blank DVD. Graveman just continues "burning" even if i open the CD slot.
Error messages from graveman aren't that helpful.
My PCmanFM also recognizes my CD drive, i can mount CD/DVD and copy files from it, so no problem seesm to be there.
I know this post is somehow ridiculous to some of you, but i'm really lost right now.
    Need some help

thx for reply -  the thread is really heavy.
i just gave it a try and switched to cdrtools, but graveman and brasero still won't burn the .iso.
graveman just stops before starting burning.
brasero tried to burn - without success - but gave an error report
